This excellent podcast has about an hour of input from one of the Tomcat pilots who helped Heatblur :- http://omegataupodcast.net/333-flying-and-simulating-the-f-14-tomcat He talks about Pilot\RIO task sharing, the whole thing is really, really interesting

I don't have too much of a problem with Jester, considering he's an AI What is a nuisance for me are the nested menu commands, I'd love to be able to just tell him to do something directly via keybinds
-
They'll have my Jester to keep them company while they are bobbing about waiting for a boat to pick them up...Jester doesn't really trust my flying for some reason :D
-
I hated the idea of a talking AI RIO, I held off buying the Tomcat partially because of it. But now I find myself wishing he'd say more on long flights where nothing much is happening. I'm not trying to persuade you that you should like the Jester speech feature, only giving my own experience.

I'm not a programmer, but I realise that programming realistic AI is one of the most difficult things to accomplish. I'm still a little cynical about how the deck crew are going to behave - I have this mental image of them bumping into each other, walking into aircraft and generally behaving like they are in a 3 Stooges movie.... But I'll still buy the carrier, the potential up sides of the module seem to outweigh any problems that might exist.

That guys entire website is interesting reading, it's well worth exploring it
-
You'd better go through with this because I have already bought a real radar controller for a Sea Harrier, and I can't think of anything else I could use it for :D

You have some really good stuff to explore then ;) The Persian Gauntlet campaign is outstanding, well worth trying it out

F14 Damage Model for Gyros 'Too Sensitive'
Extranajero replied to gary palmer's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I've seen gyros misbehave after what I think is less G's - I don't know if the type of maneuver has a bearing on whether they topple or not. But in quite a lot of flying hours it's only maybe happened four or five times. -
Feature request: Non linear option for non ffb sticks
Extranajero replied to VirusAM's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Having a stick extension is a huge step forward in control and realism terms, but that does limit your mounting options. -
Framerate - general comment and specific issue
Extranajero replied to Extranajero's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
My F-16 didn't spend very long parked up waiting for more frames then :D The bug seems to be squashed and I could swear that there's a small but noticeable FPS increase too. Might be wishful thinking though... -
It's rare I post, but this is one hell of an update\Xmas present. Thanks to all the team at ED, enjoy the holidays, you deserve it.

Framerate - general comment and specific issue
Extranajero replied to Extranajero's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Thanks everyone. I think I might park the F-16 up until it's a bit more developed. Don't get me wrong, it's got loads of potential and I'm sure it'll be great, but I'll come back to it in a few updates time. -
I get the worst framerate of all the DCS modules I own with the F-16, are any other users having similar results ? It's still useable, but on the very low side of what I personally call useable. Specific issue - which I haven't posted as a bug report because I'm not sure if it's being reported already - in multiplayer once my INS is aligned and I switch to NAV the framerate goes through the floor. From 45-50 to low teens sort of numbers. I know there's a Datalink issue, but is this the same thing ?

F14 Skinners thread (Paintkit in 1st post)
Extranajero replied to David A Sell's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
" f-14b " fixed it, thanks I suppose it's like that in the folder structure because eventually there'll be an F-14A too -
F14 Skinners thread (Paintkit in 1st post)
Extranajero replied to David A Sell's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I am having issues where none of my 3rd party skins are available in game\mission editor\multiplayer I don't have this problem with any other module - what have I done wrong ? They are located in user\Saved Games\DCS\liveries\F14 -
I like the idea of a spring loaded axis, I'll have to check if I have a suitable spring in the spares box.
-
I have the technical drawings for the real F-14 stick and they specify a centre detent for the pot - why don't you like having one ? maybe real world pilots didn't like the detent either ?
-
I have my DLC controls bound to a three way switch on my DIY stick - forward, aft and down to activate. I don't find myself using it much, it's sort of coarse in operation. Would binding it to a pot with a centre detent help ? I am DIY-ing a new stick and have the chance to fit a thumbwheel. It'll be slightly awkward\complicated to include the pot ( which I can't imagine using for anything else ) so it would be good to get feedback from people who have the DLC bound to an axis.
-
That explains it then, thanks :)

Why is it that about a third of the servers I join default to having my virtual eyepoint crammed as far forwards as possible ? It takes ages to try and get it back to something approaching normal, involving re-centering my head tracker and using the numpad view keys. Even then it won't always yield a useable position. I have searched to try and find an answer but with no luck at all.

So now that we've had the Cat for a bit...
Extranajero replied to MurderOne's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
What helps make the Tomcat my favourite module is the way the jet is properly multi role - and good at all of them. -
I have never seen a switch that rotates as well as pushes, maybe they are Tomcat unique ? It might be possible to design one to be printed, but it will be quite a difficult job

You really are making a cracking job of your pit, It's very impressive.
