Using a warthog profile help
chris455 replied to gazmonalpha's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Copy your file into the Thrustmaster Projects sub folder. Launch Target, find your profile and select "run." Minimize Target and launch the sim...... -
I did a preliminary search, albeit a cursory one, to see if others shared my misgivings about the appearance of the beaches in DCS: Normandy. Didn't find much, so it's hearteneing to see most of my fellow simmers seem quite happy with them :) However, at the risk of seeming nit-picky, the beaches in DCS: Normandy look to me as though they were ported straight out of Microsioft FSX. Rather crude. I refer specifically to the demarcation between the verdant landscaping and the sand. I feel the fields, trees, grass, etc. are quite well done, especially with higher graphics settings, but this only emphasizes the "painted- on- as- an -afterthought" quality of the beach. Other than at very low altitudes, there are no variations in the colors, textures, or shading of the sandy portions of the beaches. While I realize this isn't DCS: Beach Simulator, as a resident of San Diego I know a little of what a beach looks like, and I needn't go to the beach to remind myself, I have but to look at most other current simulators which feature beaches (IL2 BoX, COD, ROF, etc. to see very beutifully rendered examples of sea meeting sand. Is it critical to gameplay ? No. But the very well rendered countryside in DCS:Normandy clashes so sharply with the lackluster beach textures that is does kill some of the immersion. For me at least. Am I being too harsh? Chris

I hope we eventually see some additional AI air assets for Normandy. A few Me-110s, Ju-88s, Ju-52s or other slow movers would be fun to hunt in the P-51.

You've got the OD and neutral gray down pat, tone-wise. A very beautiful job on a rare OD "Stang". Well done, looking forward to fying it when released!

Baby Duck skin Hello Snowsniper, I can't emphasize enough what a wonderful job you did on this skin. But alas, it shows up very strange on my install- lots of discolored patches and odd black areas. Perhaps it was not ported over to DCS 2 yet? I would so much like to add this one to my stable of skins (and I am very picky!) Any advice you might give to make it work? Chris

Would someone be so kind as to direct me to a good COMMS tutorial or documentation source? I have neglected COMMS for too long in DCS and want to learn. Primarily I refer to the use of frequecies and how best to set them up in the mission builder so I can communicate with ground, tower, wingmen, etc. Much thanks in advance !

Hello gentleman, I've had DCS World installed on my PC for some time, have the P-51 and the F-86. Enjoy them very much. I have however taken a long vacation from the sim to play other sims for awhile. I returned recently to see what was new. Of course, when I launched the game there was a lengthy update. Now, when I try to use the sim, everything seems to work perfectly- exept for the strange, alien looking sky that now appears at all times: The sky is DARK- I mean really dark. You would think my mission clock was set to midnight, but this is the case no matter what I set the time of day to. The stars are out- but so is the sun. it is visible at the position one would expect for the set time of day, but it confers no light on the DCS world. I have tried: Updating video drivers; Repairing DCS world; Uninstalling and then re-installing DCS world; Adjusting HDR and other graphics settings. DCS is the only sim of many I have that is behaving strangely. Everything was fine the last time I ran the sim circa 6 months ago. I checked the forums and found some folks complaining of a problem with things being "too dark" and the solution for most seems to deal with HDR settings. But this does not seem to be the problem. I now live in a DCS netherworld where nigt and day are in a strange admixture. I really want to fly my F-86 again over a sunny Caucasus- If anyone has a suggestion to offer, I will be indebted. Respectfully, Chris

Hi James, This may-or may not- answer your question. The visual damage model of the Fw-190 barely represents actual damage. It may look like swiss chees and still fly as though undamaged. This, coupled with how diificult it can be to score hits on him, may be the reason for the "dinosaur tough" reputation it has in the sim. I have found that setting up your K14 sight is paramount to obtaining critical hits. Use a 34' wingspan setting for the Fw. Set your range to 1000" on the range dial. (This is the distance your guns on the P-51 are harmonized at). Fire when his wingtips touch the circle. By doing this, I can usually bring him down easily with between 60-100 hits (shown by the hit counter displayed at the end of the mission). I have also hit him hard eneough not to down him, but damage him (smoke, Prestone visibly trailing) and it definitely tones down his perormance. So, to answer your question (I think) the 190s reputation for "not being affected by damage" is, IMHO, false, although I realize it may be hard to believe at times. Hope this helped-

Was a saying back in the day about big women: "When you're nose-to-nose, your toes is in it; When you're toe-to-toe, your nose is in it" The Jug is just a big gal that has a way with some of us that others don't understand.

If memory serves: RE -manufactured Republic Aircraft Farmingdale, New York. RA- manufactured Republic Aircraft Evansville, Indiana

1.2.10 - Fixed something, broke something?
chris455 replied to Ian Boys's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
1.2.10 certainly pulled the Dora's teeth. The stratospheric zoom climbs are gone, and she comes apart rather easily with a few well-placed hits. Ceratinly not the challenge it was before, but much more realistic IMO. -
Are you referring to multiplayer? I have updated and am playing single player with no issues whatsoever......................

Roar of the Merlin - A Brand New Sound Experience
chris455 replied to Charly_Owl's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Please consider lowering the in-cockpit engine sound. Quality is superb but volume excessive- I have to turn down master volume to the point where I cannot hear wingmen, etc. Sound of .50s is a great improvement- thank you :) -
Well done young man.

I will gladly pay full boat for any WWII US aircraft. (And many European as well!) I almost find myself wishing for a P-51A model now. Below 12,000 ft I would chew that Fw-190D up and spit it out. Great idea Mike Besutil!

That's exactly what a whole bunch of Luftwaffe pilots thought too. :rotflmao:

The P-47 was the principle American fighter in Europe in WWII. The P-51 was the like the Jug's kid sister; she only became more popular because she was thinner, cuter, and would go alot farther................................................................. As for the Pacific, if one hasn't read about Neel E. Kearby and the 348th FG, I encourage you to to do so. The combination of Kearby's genius in the air, the challenges the group and their Jugs faced, and the way they magnificently used their aircraft's strengths against their enemy's weaknesses is a case study in air warfare. The Jug has been my favorite WWII airplane since I was a kid- that's a long time ago. I'm not sure just what it was that gripped my imagination so completely. Maybe it was that the Jug seemed almost like a big overgrown 'Gary Cooper' of an airplane. Not brash, not much to look at, not really something you would expect to be so dangerous. Almost a 7-ton underdog in many ways. But in the hands of a determined pilot, the P-47 was probably the biggest headache in the form of a fighter that the axis ever had to deal with. A multi-dimensional nightmare that escorted bombers which destroyed their factories, shot down their fighters, and hounded their ground forces like a maniacal pit bull..................and there were thousands and thousands and thousands of them. :shocking: Flying the DCS Mustang alot lately, I have come to respect the little P-51 probably more than ever. I was never a Mustang fan boy, but I have come to accept that the all-time American favorite, the P-51, really was quite an airplane. But as for me, when Luthier finally releases the P-47 for DCS, I'm on it like a fat lady on cheesecake. I hope my Mustang will understand when I will have no choice but to dump her for her older, plumper, homelier sister. I gave my heart to her a long, long time ago....................... I'd fly a Jug through Hell just to wave at the Devil on my way through-

I'm fairly sure that's not the problem. Have you personally heard ATC do these things?

Thanks Mainstay!

I use 'difficult" COMMS with no problem. Can communicate with wingies, tower, ground crew except: In the manual it states that when on final, you should request permission to land a second time, and tower should respond if the runway is clear. He never does. When I announce "Inbound" I get two messages from the tower, one is an acknowledgment, the other is "cleared for visual, contact tower". But when I request permission to land when on final- nothing. Only when I touch down am I told to taxi to parking. What am I missing? Second question: AN/APS-13 radar works great as far as the orange light on the dash goes- but documentation states a bell should sound as well. I don't hear a bell. There is a volume control on the radar receiver that states VHF radio volume or some such. I turn it up all the way and still do not hear an audible alarm when the radar warning light comes on. Again, what am missing/doing incorrectly? Thanks in advance guys!

Installed the mod and it looks great. But I cannot locate my HIGH.lua file to make the suggested changes on the first page. Any hint as to where it may be? I even did a search on my PC and cannot locate it. Thanks in advance for any help-

I don't seem to be having that problem Mark. Guns work fine. Bombs seem a bit more powerful, and the guns do seem to sound a bit more "throaty". But as far as their effect, no change here.

+1  Especially when you have remaining fuel in the fuselage tank.
