OH-6A by Tobsen and Eightball
Devil 505 replied to tobi's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
Out of Curiosity, is there any single river patrol boat assets like in some of the first images taken close to the start of this forum? I have not been able to locate them. Only ones I have found are attached to the barge and are not individuals. Also, are there any plans for individual VC/North Vietnamese infantry that are combat ready and not static? The gents and I were really hoping to replace the default AK infantry with these. Only ones I have located thus far are the mortar crew and VC on the bike. No actual infantry. If there are none, is there talk of doing any? Really digging this mod! -

Alright Slippa, video below as promised. I was not sure if you were struggling with the UH-1 or OH-6 so I did a short startup video on both. Hope it helps. -
If you need someone to test her in VR, I will volunteer!

I will try to knock out a video tonight cranking up the OH-6A and the Hog. I cannot promise it is standard to any military procedure, but it works every time for me. I will also talk through my key binds. Since I only fly in VR, I typically interact with everything using the mouse unless it is something bound to the Cyclic/Stick or collective. That is a standard OP for me across the board with all DCS Helos. I have them all, and I can say with confidence they all have their own flight personalities. Looking forward to knocking something out for you. -

One more post for the night. The gents and I are looking into some possible missions in the future conducting SAR and downed aircraft recovery operations. Been years since my last Huey sling load in DCS. I had to give lifting the OH-6A a try. I did not pick the best area to drop it off, very tight. Look forward to showing more once we actually start putting missions together in the coming months. Thanks again to the guys who put this mod together. Having a blast with it. -

So me and the guys are still having some weird issues with SRS and the OH-6, even after the SRS update. Did a short video below showing what we are encountering. My buddy hosted the mission on a dedicated server he pays for. We did the first test on FM 30.00 (turned on to PTT), UHF off. He could hear me in his OH6 and he could also here me depress the mic, but I could not hear him or hear me depress my mic. The second test was on UHF 251 (turned on to TR), FM turned off. Same result as above with FM. The weird thing is, right before we recorded the below test, I could not hear him on UHF, so I turned on FM to PTT and all the sudden I could hear my SRS depress and I could hear him on FM. Then UHF worked. When I turned off the FM radio to test one at a time, all the sudden, FM did not work anymore but UHF continued to work. To record the video, we jumped into 2 fresh birds (not the same group) and all the sudden, the above results happened which I go through in the video. To note, we tried the exact same test on the same server with the UH-1 prior to testing the OH-6 and after and it worked flawlessly on multiple channels on both FM and UHF. What is weird with the OH6 is UHF will only transmit on 251 and FM on 30.00 for all parties. I am open to suggestions if anyone has any. I was hoping we were clowns, and it was user error, but at this point, we are having trouble replicating the same issue back-to-back. As of now, we are using skype with the mod until SRS gets ironed out or we get schooled. Appreciate any feedback. I also took screen shots below of my SRS settings to see if anything looks off to anyone. -

Did a multiplayer test Sunday with the boys to test marking with smoke and a combined attack with the OV-10 mod. The OH-6 is still having problems with comms and SRS so we had to use skype. Did a video on it about an hour ago and will post it here soon. Had a blast flying this with the boys. I cannot brag enough about flying with a good group of people online with DCS. Flying down low and marking targets while you have support overhead getting after it is beyond awesome in VR. This was just for fun, but we have some future plans to put together a multitude of mission variants with the OH-6 in conjunction with a few other mods and official modules. More to come. -

So I did this video for someone who asked how to get the door gunner working and what keys were bound. I also gave my own personal advice on what is working for me learning to fly the OH-6A smoother on takeoff and landing. It absolutely requires all hands on. Very well worth the patience and wait to learn her though. Absolutely having a blast with it. -
Really being selfish here since we just got the OH-6, but we need the second element of Darkhorse. The Apache is to Posh. After flying and loving the OH-6 mod, I cannot wait to get your Cobra in the fight. To say these two will complement each other is an understatement. The OH crew did a fantastic job with the ability to drop smoke and mark targets. We will have a true Hunter Killer opportunity when you release the OG Gunship. Thank you for all the hard work and doing this for the community. Your time will be well spent when we all start flying her! Anymore videos would be a great tease.

Devil 505 replied to tobi's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
Your buddy (me LOL) agrees. My second attempt at lift off below with a quicker pull on the collective seems to work better than the slow methodical approach. She is ready to go quick. Landing still needs some work. Trying to iron if trim is needed (having trouble with the trim) or just finding the sweet spot between rudder authority and back stick pressure when landing. The slightest release of back stick coming into land and she wants to roll forward. The second landing below was better than the first, so improvement there. Side door gunner in VR is awesome. I added the ROE to my collective trigger to tell him to engage, pinky switch toggles his rate of fire, and the hat will switch between grenades. Hopefully soon me and gents will be able to conduct a Hunter/Killer mission where one or two of us fly the OV-10s until the Cobra is out while the other fly's low and fast with the OH-6 and paints with smoke. We will post the video here for sure when we do. -

Outstanding job gents on the OH-6. She is a handful to get use to on takeoff. I must admit, the video below was my first flight with her as well as the first time I have used a collective in DCS. I just got the Virpil AH-64 hooked up and my mind is having time transitioning from forward on the throttle is increase altitude to down on the collective is decrease and up is increase. Hopefully after a few more flights things will start to look a little cleaner. -
"First Person Shooter" on DCS World
Devil 505 replied to Silver_Dragon's topic in DCS Core Wish List
DCS World was not designed entirely for flying, hence the title Digital Combat Simulator. This has been stated since the first days of Black Shark and since then. I think it is safe to say the team at Eagle Dynamics and their third party devs have a completely different perspective on customer service/satisfaction than the team running Elite Dangerous. I would love to see where you find your stats on the above statement. Just because there are a handful of trolls that do not want it or think it will be a disaster loosely based off of other failed ventures tells me your you lack confidence in ED to bring the same standards to another area of the sim. -

A must watch for anyone waiting on the Cobra and OH-6A mod coming out. These vets and their stories were nothing short of phenomenal, especially the guys who got shot down 3 times in one day and kept going back to the base to get another OH-6 and get back in the fight. Insane stories. If not already done, it would be great to see the liveries from some of their helos to commemorate these guys in the mod. -
Agree 100%. We have solid line up with upcoming 3rd party modules for Vietnam. The Skyraider, Intruder, Crusader, Super Sabre, Starfighter, Hercules, and Corsair II along with what we currently have. Then we have the A-4, OV-10, Cobra, and OH-6A mods. Heatblur is also pursuing the older phantoms to include the Navy variant which will bring yet another addition to the Nam era. Then between the modern Phantom and Chinook, we should have a solid Vietnam experience at hand. I know VSN mods was talking about doing an F-105 Thud with a scanned cockpit on their discord, but I am not sure how far along if at all they have come with it. This is another one that runs close to the A-6 for me I wish a Third Party would pick up. The iconic role this aircraft played in Vietnam is pivotal. I wish the current Huey would get a face lift to the Apache/Chinook standards, along with adding the 40mm Nose turret and a more faithful representation of the M-60 for Vietnam era door gunners. I only fly in VR and cannot get enough of DCS. It is the one sim where there will always be a healthy horizon of aircraft coming to the sim. Glad to see more cargo-oriented roles as well. This will open the door for SAR operations in Vietnam as well.

LOL!!!!!!!!!! It actually is 100% stolen from Flight of the Intruder. I am 43 and grew up with the icons such as the Phantom, Intruder, Tomcat, Corsair, and Crusader. So when Heatblur announced the Intruder as a module, I was in shock. Absolutely cannot wait for that one! Might I suggest a phenomenal mod if ever interested since it has not remotely been mentioned by third part devs, the F-105 Thunderchief. Another Iconic figure in aviation that deserves her name in the DCS Hall of Fame. Keep up the awesome work on the mods for the community! I was just flying the OV-10 Last night.

I shot a short video do a quick troop extract in the Huey to a FOB in the Jungle, then landed on one of Eightball's ships. You guys cannot finish this quick enough! So fired up to sit in the Cayuse in VR. I created a few 60's music channels to run on the radios in DCS. That is what I tuned into with the Huey. Keep up the great work gents! -

Really looking forward to this mod. Grew up around several Texans as a kid. They still fly around here in Texas. Hopefully when time comes, you will be able to get some good engine recordings to get the old girl sounding right as well. -
After the Alphajet, can we expect to see the same quality put into the OV-10 that you are currently doing with the Alpha? I just saw the Alpha thread and very impressed with the mod. Much appreciated for you all putting this much time into free mods for the community. Between the OV-10, the OH-6A coming out as well as the Cobra, we are going to have a small DCS Vietnam conflict on our hands before to long. Below is a video I shot in the new OV-10 on MSFS. The video was shot in VR. I hope you can bring the fidelity of your mod closer to this when time permits. Looks like you are doing the same on the Alphajet.

OMG! Someone FINALLY did an M-60 correctly! I hope ED takes your model and places it in the Huey to replace what we currently have. Hope you guys might have been able to get some authentic sounds as well. Everything you guys are doing warrants third party status, at minimum for asset packs. I feel you guys should get picked up as a third party for the Vietnam stuff. Fantastic job! Absolutely cant wait for this in 2 weeks. LOL -
"First Person Shooter" on DCS World
Devil 505 replied to Silver_Dragon's topic in DCS Core Wish List
This is a hot topic I wish many would not get so upset about, especially with the C-130, Chinook, and some of the new Helos coming out. DCS has first and foremost been a military simulation platform putting realism and authenticity at its core, so be it first person shooter, armored module, or maritime assets, I would expect nothing short of the same. There is absolutely a solid way to sell the first-person modules in my own opinion. One of the biggest complaints I hear is the ground scenery not being high fidelity and not being able to enter buildings, small arms ballistics do not exist on top of the obvious soldier mechanics right now, and the FPS turning into a call of duty style game. Let's break it down for each one of these. Let's start with the call of duty style gameplay. I find this to be a mute subject simply for the fact that ED and third-party game developers would not be creating a module that allows for the non-realistic environment the COD franchise has succeeded on. For the exact same reason we have people fly DCS and not War Thunder. A solid way to sell a first-person experience in DCS would be to create generation/branch/time specific units for as a module pack to include axis/ally in the pack to balance the gameplay and create realistic scenarios. A good example from my own experience in the service would be early era 2000's with Seal units and Taliban/Al-Qaeda terrorist. During this period, Seals were using very specific weapons during the early war to include MK-18 Mod 0 with Trijicon's mounted with Doctor sites while Al-Qaeda terrorist were the predominate threat before ISIS. During the early days of the war in Afghanistan the Uniform used in the Middle east for Seals was old school vs what they wear today. Creating module packs with very specific attention to detail on uniforms, weapons, attachments (down to different suppressors for god sake), gear, and the same for axis units could be huge sellers. Unit packs could be created for time specific regions such as the maps we have now and in the future. I would expect nothing short of the level of detail we see in the aircraft to be put into the character models, weapons, and gear. Body movement would have to be spot on and VR would need to be a must since there are those of us who only play DCS with VR. This could open up an entirely different market to 3rd party devs and ED. I could write an entire article just on this topic alone and how to set up a module pack. Within the pack you should have designated roles as in real life such as comms, sniper, medic, breacher, ect..... The second topic of concern is the environment or lack thereof for assets and buildings. I feel there is a solution for this similar to what is out there for the WW2 assets pack. The difference would be building packs with high detailed interior/exteriors that can be inserted into any map where content creators or campaign developers could create historic missions. Maybe include some base detailed buildings with the Unit module packs such as the early era Seal/Al-Qaeda pack coming with some detailed FOB building and mud huts. Other larger buildings such as the Osama Bin-Laden compound and larger structures are included in building asset packs, again time period specific. This would open the door for historical combat operations with high fidelity such as the Bin Laden raid, patrols in Afghanistan, Special operations missions ect..... DCS would become a virtual playground for content creators who want authenticity and realism over the closest thing we have now which is ARMA. The ability to recreate what so many have experienced and to do it with the fidelity ED can do would bring a lot of attention to ED and I personally feel, is a great way to remember our fallen brothers and sisters by never forgetting what they did. The last concern I will not spend time on because I think it is a moot point. The current way infantry works on the ground and the ballistics is a given, it's not up to par. This would obviously be worked over to the same degree they do the aircraft modules and we would receive nothing but the best work ED could push out. I feel Wags statement is correct, that this is not an if but a when will it happen. I could not be more pleased when I heard him mention this. There are so many fine details that need to go into place to make this work, I would not expect anything soon, but the prospect of being able to carry out full combat operations online with my boys overhead while I conduct a raid with the guys would be an insane experience, especially in VR. I hope the enthusiasm continues to grow for this future feature to DCS World and look forward to the first iteration of the first-person experience, which I believe will be walking from the ready room on the super carrier to our aircraft up on deck. Once they pull this off, I think it will it the first-person experience in motion. -
June is not far around the corner but still, I had to see what we were in for or close to it. I took the new OV-10 up over the southwest region flying out of Kandahar in MSFS. I sure wish someone would do a full fidelity OV-10 module for DCS. This one was a blast to fly.
