Forgot to hit record tonight, but flying this old girl over Vietnam at night in VR is like no other experience. Absolutely on edge for Heatblurs high fidelity Intruder and the future Vietnam map. I just flew the Phantom as well tonight on DCS and damn!!!!! Nothing beats VR with DCS. You will never go back to the flat screen. The immersion level and night flying specifically are a completely different experience. I will try to get another video up of the A-6 at dawn rolling into the night. HB, any teasers of the A-6 would be awesome, but I assume right now we have a better chance of Biden finishing a complete sentence since the old girl is so far out. Really appreciate everything you do for this community. There are 3 aircraft I grew up with and 4 I have always wanted in a sim since the Janes and Fleet Defender days. You have provided 2, the Tomcat and Phantom, and the third is inbound at some point, the Intruder. The 4th, no one has even mentioned yet and that is F-105. I really hope to see you guys get this one given your background with this era of aircraft!

Only one person has to make the call. I am Mistermann's wingman that flew this with him. I must say, and not out of loyalty, you and your crew will not be disappointed with the campaign. It is a blast. We have flown it several times. You learn a lot about each other and how each one of you flies. It also helps you communicate better and build tactics as a team. Looking forward to hearing how you guys like it.

If anyone of you is looking for a fix until Heatblur brings our Intruder home to DCS, MSFS just released one this past week. Now this is no HB Intruder quality by any means, but it is a blast to fly in VR and really scratches that itch if anyone of you grew up with Flight of the Intruder like I did, or even better grew up around the old girl like me. This has a simple startup procedure, and the textures are not bad. You can save a custom view in the BN seat and the exterior looks really good. Wings fold, ladders come down, and it is Carrier capable. Unfortunately, I cannot bring myself to use the MSFS carrier after DCS. It is beyond frustrating to me and does not even come close a DCS experience. This module is a step above any free mod for sure and absolutely provides the feeling of being behind the stick as if you were in the movie. I actually highly recommend it if you want to get a feel for where things are in the cockpit (even though you cannot manipulate 98% of it) and a taste of what to expect in DCS. I put a video together this morning, nothing crazy, showing the experience in VR with the PIMAX. Yes, I was a nerd and put the Flight of the Intruder music in there because I could not wait. I fully expect someone to beat me to it when Heatblur releases theirs. Hope this provides a small band aid until we see the Old Girl arrive in DCS.

OH-6A by Tobsen and Eightball
Devil 505 replied to tobi's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
Just going to kick the fire some more and encourage them to go 3rd party! Here me and the boys are tearing it up with the Phantom and OH-6. The Cayuse is a must for MP! We are working on setting up a Middle east Scenario with it now. -
Awesome to see others downloading it and trying it out! If you have OBS and fly with friends, we would enjoy seeing your experiences flying it. Glad to see this getting attention. Coop campaigns are severely underrated in DCS. Almost every DCS video I see now days usually has 2 or more friends flying together. Looking forward to hearing more from you as you play through it.

Having been the third man on this team to fly with the above to wingmen, I can testify the work Mistermann has put into the original Griffins Campaign has made a second and third replay through all worthwhile. The addition of top-notch AI generated voiceovers and hard work put into a deeper story provide a much better sense of immersion to the objective at hand. One thing both the original creator and Kandy have brought to the table is a complete coop campaign experience. This is something severely lacking in the DCS campaign developer's inventory. If you are like us, the fulfillment of completing objectives as a team and coordinating attacks together is where the real treasure lies with DCS World. Kandy takes it up a notch by incorporating a variable system where the probably of enemies spawning in the same place can be different every time. This makes every play through with the guys that much more enjoyable. I highly encourage anyone who flies with friends and enjoys the Apache to give this a shot. It becomes very addicting and not only provides hours of fun with the boys, also really fine tunes your skills with the Apache. We were going for a more authentic approach so do not expect hot starts and easy days. This is what made it so fun to fly multiple times. I encourage everyone who flies with their friends to record their experiences and post it on this forum. We have done so many times in the past and it never gets old with all the surprises in this campaign when flying with the team. Thaks to Mistermann for all the hard work and @Dagobert666 for the OG campaign. It has been worth every minute flown.

Devil 505 replied to tobi's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
I did this for everyone just so they felt better. LOL. I did however take the video down so it did not confuse anyone. I did not want to mislead anyone since there was in fact no issue with the exception of the retard flying the helicopter. -

Well I just made an ass out of myself on national television. I owe my wingman an apology for telling him he was wrong. I was the one who was wrong. Much appreciated for the assist on pointing that out! I have no idea why I was looking at the wrong gauge. Sorry Zipper! -

Devil 505 replied to tobi's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
Looking for some feedback from the Tobi/Eightball and the community. I have noticed the RPM on startup since the last patch does not want to climb to 60% before needing to increase the throttle to 100%. Was this intentional or a bug in the 1.2 patch? I also noticed when selecting the grease pencil reticle for the canopy in the special options, it is not showing up on the canopy for me. This could be user error if there is a special key bind for it, but I have tried rearming with rockets and minigun with no luck on the reticle. This question is more for the devs. When you improved the flight model to make it easier for the community to fly, did you have to deviate from a more realistic flight model of the OH-6 to do this? I am not complaining, but I was curious if V1 was more aligned with the authenticity of the flight characteristics vs making it easier to fly in V1.2? I am not using the new trim just because I am authentic until the DVD commentaries come out. Still absolutely love this mod, just hoping realism was not sacrificed too much to appease and easier flight model. I created a short video below to demonstrate the issue I am having on startup and did a real quick flight. Curious to see the feedback on the startup to see if this is intentional. -
Into The Jungle - MP Vietnam era experience
Devil 505 replied to Mistermann's topic in User Created Missions General
Good stuff!!!! Glad to see you got this out there for everyone to fly. Still keeping its edge and an outstanding mission to practice all roles the F-4 was capable of performing. Also the best MP mission for utilizing the OH-6 in conjunction with strike groups and marking targets. Looking forward to hearing everyone's feedback.- 20 replies

It is coming in his next patch for the OH-6A. It was on a list of things coming in the next patch. My buddy found the list today somewhere. -

Devil 505 replied to tobi's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
The video below was a combination of several flights with me and the boys. Been putting together a simulated Vietnam environment on the Marianas Map. Most of this stuff is randomly spawned in groups throughout the jungle that Mistermann has been creating. Makes each time different. In the Cayuse especially, it gets crazy flying over a random spot of jungle and taking small arms fire. It has been fun locating targets in the OH-6 and marking for the Phantoms and A-4s. Words do not really convey the experience in VR. Flying low with doors off and having the F-4 roll in overhead and take out a hill will never get old. I have that time stamped in the video below. Looking forward to seeing how the mod progresses and if anything else will be added in the future. -

Good stuff Kandy! Mine is uploading to YouTube now and I will have it up soon from another perspective. Tobi and 8Ball - I second the above! Thank you so much for the mod. We are having a blast with it. If there is any way to make individual Viet Kong infantry units that can engage, that would be awesome. I hope there is more planned for the future. We have had hours of fun already in Cayuse. Also love the AI Seaking. I hope the next Cargo helicopter you choose to work is an older one from this era. Maybe a Jolly Green or UH-34? That would bring some good stuff to the scene with SAR/Sandy missions along with Cargo runs and hoist operations. -
Hey Nomad, any chance you have some progress shots to show or video? Been flying the hell out of the OH-6 mod and me and the boys are highly anticipating your masterpiece. Need to complete the Hunter Killer team. I will post a video for you here in a few days of where the Cobra is going to fit in. Phantom comes out tomorrow, so we should have some OH-6, Phantom, Bronco action going on. Thanks again for all the hard work. The guys and I feel confident when its time, its going to be well worth the wait!

UH-6 MOD / why so hard to fly
Devil 505 replied to CHPL's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
I would post on this forum for questions on the OH-6. Everyone is collectively learning to fly her and discuss pointers there. I have posted several videos on how I have learned to fly her. Curves or no curves, she just takes practice. I myself am not a curves guy, but once you get the old girl down, she is a BLAST to fly in VR. -

Just remember, Battery can be turned on, but if Helo is running, the ground crew will not rearm/refuel. You will need to shut her down completely minus leaving the battery on to talk with fellow pilots if in MP. -

Had another question on one of my videos to demonstrate a controlled lift off and landing because the OH-6 is so twitchy. They asked to leave the control interface on so they could see where my controls are at while I was flying. It was little difficult in VR because the interface was pretty far in the top left-hand corner of the screen making it difficult to fly and look at. Then again, I never use it because I find it easier in VR to feel the direction the Helo is going to roll or move to, making it easier to counterbalance. There were also some questions about the comms and how to get them working. I included a tutorial for that as well towards the end and time stamped it. Apologies for the break while I selected my helo profile in SRS. Hope this helps some with learning how to control the OH-6 and use the radios. -

My buddies and I just figured this out last night. FM requires UHF to be on and select T/R to work. Follow the steps below and you should be good to go. Center Console: Batt on Center comms panel (both of them) ensure all switches are flipped in the up position. By default in cold/dark, two of them labeled 1 & 2 are in the down position. These need to be flipped up (1 is FM and 2 is UHF). Turn the volume knobs all the way up on both comms panels (to the right). Front console (Radio Panel): UHF turned to T/R, Volume turned all the way up (small rotary dial) FM radio turned to PTT, Volume turned all the way up. Ensure you and your friends are on the same channel. All channels have worked for us. Where we were messing up was we were not turning on those 2 switches in the down position and the volume knobs were turned down low (around mid I think) in default cold start. Let me know if I need to record a video for assistance. -

There seems to be a bug when you load into MP with friends, and you have the OH-6 configured from the ME. If you rearm while sitting on the deck in MP, they will see the 3D models correctly. I have seen drop tanks, weird looking torpedo's, and missiles on my buddies OH-6 until they rearmed. They see the same with mine until I rearm. I am sure the bug will get squashed soon. -

Our mission creator has been working on some random events in preparation of making an overall larger Vietnam Mission experience. The ultimate goal is to incorporate the OH-6 for Scouting and using the smoke to bring in the Killers above. This was a practice run last night with 2 out of the 3 of us that were able to try a few new triggers. It was a blast. -
"First Person Shooter" on DCS World
Devil 505 replied to Silver_Dragon's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I too have been with them for this long. You and I going back and forth on this subject is honestly pointless. I say we call this battle a draw and leave it to ED to figure out. I am not saying you do not have any valid points for the record. I will admit, maybe I am a little to optimistic for such a thing to take place in DCS World, but one can dream. I will tell you 40 years ago I started playing F-19 Stealth fighter with my old man on an IMB 286 where I had to use DOS to get my sims started. I went from floppy disks to hard disks to CD to digital. If you were to try to convince me all those years ago, and even during the Janes days, that I would be sitting at my computer with a device on my head that placed me in the cockpit (VR) of all my favorite fighters and bombers, I would have responded the same way you did above. But growing old age has provided me the wisdom to see that technology and experience is advancing at such a rapid pace, who knows where DCS might be 5 or 10 years down the road. Wherever it winds up, one thing is for certain, I doubt either one of us will be disappointed. See you in the virtual Mars. -
"First Person Shooter" on DCS World
Devil 505 replied to Silver_Dragon's topic in DCS Core Wish List
If you have been around since day one like I have with Eagle Dynamics and followed their road maps, interviews, and posts, your ignorance would be kept in check. Just because there is not a fleshed-out version of combined arms or armored modules yet does not mean this has not been on their road map since the early days. Technology has been a huge limiting factor of what they could achieve to the level they want to achieve it at until recently. Clearly the super carrier and combined arms are tangible pieces of proof flying is not the only thing they have focused on or wanted to focus on. DCS has always been focused on mil-sim realism. Why is it the war thunder players have not flocked in droves to DSC? Simple, it is a study sim requiring patience and dedication to appreciate and enjoy. Why do Call of Duty and Arma players not gravitate towards Ready or Not or Ground Branch? It is a tactics driven, more realistic simulation of firearms and strategy combined with teamwork simulation. Not a Call of Duty or arcade like experience. The example of an A-10 carpet bombing and entire town full of hostiles is not the best example. Could it be done? Sure. But the crowd that gravitates towards DCS will not set up scenarios that mimic that of the former mentioned games. It takes away the mil-sim experience we are seeking that has not truly been offered to the public. I feel people like you underestimate the type of players that use DCS as their primary platform. Good example. The same convo took place years ago when we mentioned cargo and troop-carrying aircraft. There were a lot of similar posts like the ones above trashing the ideas and saying those aircraft would never work, no one is here to play DCS and fly cargo. They said it does not have its place in a combat flight sim and no one would buy them. Now take a look at the Chinook, look at the hype on the C-130 mod by Anubis and look how many are waiting to purchase the official C-130 mod coming out. Bottom line, like all other modules, if it is not your cup of tea, do not buy it. That does not mean it will not be mine or someone else's. People who truly appreciate this platform do not want to see it limited to any one specific role. The more you bring a live digital combat environment to DCS, the better it will grow for a multitude of mil-sim players. You really answered this one yourself. Arma is an arcade experience. It is not mil-sim by any stretch of the imagination. So technically, no it has not been done before which is why I am such a proponent of this. If no one ever tries to push the envelope, especially when facing criticism, we never achieve anything great. What is out there now is no fun because it takes on push of a button to ruin the day for 50 people below. It does not take into effect real life issues such as weapons jams, weigh of gear, limited ammo for certain operations, logistics, fuel consumption and distance for air support, ect.... These are all things ED could and I feel will eventually tackle with much more precision than any other sim out there. The time it takes for someone to learn the A-10, Hornet, or Viper, and apply those munitions and tactics accurately requires some significant investment. Takes time just to learn to fly them properly and get to the target area, especially when searching for small arms on the ground. This is what makes DCS and experience, not some game. It would be no different on the ground for people seeking the same experience from a first-person perspective. The guy's upstairs I think will appreciate this more as will the players who want to take up arms or armored modules on the ground. Again, trying to compare current sims to DCS and their future state is not an accurate portrayal of what ED is capable of. I agree with this statement. It is not blind faith I have in Eagle Dynamics. It is their commitment to the customer and the products they have already provided us with that generates this faith they could pull off armored modules and a first-person experience. Why to bring religion into DCS though, that is a first I have seen on the forums.
