Adjustable gun convergence, Ammo type
flare2000x replied to Moafuleum's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Do you know what chapter of the book it's in? I have a different publication and P. 155 is him talking about getting promoted to wing commander. -
The hobbldy hoy nature of the ground handling
flare2000x replied to Damocles's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
I don't really get the complaints. I use a twist stick rudder with a really crappy potentiometer and I don't really have much trouble on taxi, takeoff, or landing. It's by far easier than the 109 in my opinion. You have to get used to the braking mechanism and learn to not go full boost on takeoff and hold the stick back on landing. -
The hobbldy hoy nature of the ground handling

The one thing that prevented me from dragging a wing tip was holding back pressure on the stick after touchdown. Landings are straight and not that bouncy anymore. -
Adjustable gun convergence, Ammo type
flare2000x replied to Moafuleum's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
I was under the impression that most pilots had a personal plane and they could ask their crew chief to adjust the gun convergence if they wanted. I'm pretty sure there wasn't an order that told crew chiefs to not change the convergence. If the option was there I'd say it absolutely is realistic and we should have the option in DCS on all WWII planes. -
Show me your dogfighting skills....
flare2000x replied to NineLine's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Here's a short cinematic type video of the quick mission vs AI dogfight. Won handily but my wingman bought the dust. I'm LOVING the spitty so far. Great fun to fight with, and I got the hang of landing/takeoff fairly quickly. Still end up in the grass on landing sometimes but it's not that bad. -
Congrats to the winner!

Love the pace these guys are going at with the Spitty. Maybe they'll even give us a +25 boost if we convince them it was historically accurate! :) Love the Spitty, can't wait to fly it, no matter the version or specifications. It's a Spitty.

No need at all for observer rounds when deWilde rounds are in the guns... They give a bright flash on impact

Hands down my favourite aircraft of all time. So happy to be so close to be flying it in the best sim out there so soon

It seems that we aren't getting many fields. Most of them are right up against the coast. What about Le Havre? What about more fields to the south? It looks like even Dieppe is on this map, it has an airfield. If we want missions with decent flying distance between the red and the blue bases, we're going to need more fields to the south and east.

Obviously you're never going to be running at max combat RPM and boost all the time though. The Spit has a nice big wing to keep you up so you can bring the power way down and stay flying if you just want to cruise or loiter.

I mean, he did provide an actual picture of MH434, the one ED is making, and it had the type 2 elevators.

Hi little D. As far as I know the sound issue has been discussed before, I'm not sure if it was fixed or not or if they plan on fixing it. About the tracers, you're the first one who has brought up this issue. I hope there's a discussion about it and it's fixed. Perhaps make a thread about the tracers in the relevant forum and remember to include your sources. About the plane numbers. I really hope there's a better solution coming to DCS. Right now you can only change them in the mission editor and it's very awkward. There should be a way for us to pick what paint and loadout we want for each plane. I'd prefer it to be in the spawn menu like IL2 or CloD, but I think that would require a whole new spawning system as DCS does spawning by actually just making a bunch of planes in the editor, and when you select one, then it appears. For now I think the easiest way to implement this would be to choose your paint and squadron letters in the loadout screen, once you've spawned.

Awesome, thanks for the update Matt.

Even if the Spitfire can climb at a faster FPM, it does so at a lower airspeed. This would be a disadvantage, right? The 109 could extend away from a chasing Spitfire. Although if the Spitfire was on defence it could climb steeper? I hope the Spit ends up being a competitive aircraft. I love it so much.

Even though the propeller lever is different than the throttle it's not totally manual. The propeller lever sets the RPM and automatically changes the pitch to keep you at that RPM. It's really not that different than the Bf 109. Just put your throttle up, set RPM to whatever you want (on the Merlin anywhere from 2600-2800 is usually good for all situations) and fly. Don't see what's more difficult on this method than the Bf 109. At least it's not like the early 109s where you had to manually control the PITCH and were always adjusting whenever you changed speed, in a climb, dive, etc.

From the newsletter: I'm still hopeful!

I'd mostly like to see RAF fighters like the Typhoon, and the Mosquito FB VI.

Usually is about 2 months. I've been saving my free code from the kickstarter for this one, I don't think I can wait much longer! A new screenshot, pretty please?
