  1. the nail is an intermittent lower-freq "beep" that lets you know someone is scanning ----- mostly this is what you hear a spike is a higher-pitch faster rate alert that catches your attention to tell you you're being hard-locked or a missile is inbound ---- this is important and you need to take action you report "15 nails, nose" or "29 spike, right two-o'clock"
  2. TWS gives a "nail" STT/A120 gives a "spike"
  3. oh wow ---- very cool news indeed
  4. youtube looks like DCS has...... "room to grow" i'd love to see the russian side of DCS get some attention (editorial ---- the US/NATO needs to step it up - whoever's in charge in russia is serious..)
  5. you could do worse than watching this video hosting the two test pilots for the YF-23 [ame=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vpkv1ErWIf8]youtube[/ame]
  6. sure would be cool if they could make an API so that the voice messages could be edited going forward so its not such a big deal to make changes look at all the countries that are selectable when you are building a mission or campaign and you are defining coalitions ----- does the current voice set cover all of them? no, not by a long shot hopefully this is in the plans...
  7. yeah i'm confused too
  8. what vampyre said plus.. the YF-23 could only carry three internal missiles in its weapon bay (one each side - one centerline) and the -22 has two larger weapons bays on each side full disclosure - i was rooting for the -23 and was disappointed when the -22 was selected due to essentially politcal/program-mgmt reasons : /
  9. so you're saying ED should use the L-39 as a marketing tool - a loss-leader so to speak and, ED would be trusting "the community" to cooperate in their marketing efforts to improve the reach and user-base of DCS the same people that participate on this forum who get along so well and have such wonderful thought out ideas and are so angelically polite and mature and unbiased ?? does anybody else see any reasons why ED would maybe pass on this plan?
  10. when/if you are banked such that you've moved the RWR antennas/sensor FOV away from the missile, you won't get an indication or, similarly, if the missile is approaching you from outside the antenna coverage area, you won't get an indication in the eagle, the antennas cover +/- 45-deg above and below the horizon - in the flanker i believe it is 30-deg does anybody know what the angular limits for the mirage RWR antennas?

  12. having anything less than a real aircraft to sit in is "an immersion breaker" at some point there will ALWAYS be something to remind you that you are in a simulation the trick is, find what works for you..
  13. no noooooooooooooooooo no no no no nooooooo no "midnight" or "fog" or inclement weather ----- i get on to shoot ppl down - not practice IFR when i see night, i log off... hate the weather hate it
  14. OP has it right --------- soooo want this to happen but think of all the re-work they would have to do they'd have to go back and re-record all the audio clips you hear : / but i have hope - if they can give the graphics engine a whole overhaul, maybe they could do the same for the voice tracks (and.. maybe SOMEday? missiles? and MP/networking?)
  15. very briefly.. put the velocity vector midway between the horizon line on the HUD and the -5-deg marker on the pitch ladder -- that makes your glideslope -2.5 deg while simultaneously placing the velocity vector on the end of the rwy (not the "literal" end - a little past where the rwy begins) as the rwy begins to fill the width of the HUD, begin your flare - move your focus from the near end of the rwy to the far end - and pull the velocity vector up to the far end of the rwy the rest is up to you! : )
  16. the navy "betty" is different from the air force "betty"
  17. just backing up what GG is saying here ----- once you see BFM done properly, and what can be done if you permit too much range to develop (hint: it involves you, a heater or a stream of metal moving at a high rate of speed, and your hair teeth and eyeballs) remember, these are HIGH PERFORMANCE aircraft - and they are meant to be "max performed" ------ think about it, what does that actually MEAN?? it means they are meant to be flown MUCH HARDER than you think is even possible right now trust me you have to stay close - you have to keep your eyes on the bandit and you have to max perform your jet (whatever that means)
  18. here's what i want to do - press-and-hold a button, and a flare is released and then after [a time interval] it continues to fire a flare until i release the button is that possible? i'm looking around in target and i'm not sure this is possible played around with it this weekend and i didn't get anywhere anyone here got an idea how to do this??

    F-15E?

heh! good question I'm sure ED hasn't built the cockpit for the AI strike eagle
  20. i think the visibility vs zoom issue is a real issue i went out to nellis last month to get jet pics and i was paying attention to how far away the jets were - 3-5miles jets are *clearly* visible - not tiny dots like they are in DCS so it seems like there should be "some" allowance for visibility restrictions in DCS to make up for the fact that its harder to see a jet in the game vs real life ---- and that would apply to the VR environment as well personally, i use the fore-aft axis in T-IR to zoom my view ---- i put my nose right up there in the HUD and i can see a head-on a/c in the target designator box at 15+ nm if we could do "something" similar in DCS, that would be great --- i'm sure DCS isn't the only game/simulation using VR - perhaps if we look at how other devs solve this problem and take a pointer from them, that might be a good starting point...
  21. yeah, but it was.... cool!
  22. as long as we get the usmc av-8b "eventually"
