It's not Russian, it's set in the Ukraine, and made there also. I know, you don't care, be it Russian, Uzbek/CIS state X, but I do and hate it being called 'Russian'. I haven't tried it yet, but the screens sure are promising, as is the storyline. I don't like zombies and other nonsense, but heck, did you see those Mi-24s? Lomacs Mi-24s are nothing compared to that, hopefully BS will chnage that. A mate of mine has it, and it runs damn good he says, but then again, he has some gamer's pc with blinking LEDs and a transparent case :/

Russia Orders dozens of Ka-50 and 52 Helos

Maybe the actuators are really quick (like TVC nozzles are) and it has some sophisticated software crunching the do's and don'ts. I remember something like the whole engine pylons moving both forward and latterally, yaw is done by pitching one rator forward, and the other back. A tail rotor failure is not always a 'oh f*** we're gonna die, jump out if you can!' situation, provided the chopper has enough forward speed, it can safely make it back home without a tail rotor. Yes the landing will be slightly problematic, but the chances are big that at least the crew can walk off without any serious/fatal injuries.
-
Will it? I mean it has FADEC, engine management, the moment the computer senses a dead or dying engine, it will boost the other one, synchronize the gearboxes, whatever else. The thing is rated to achieve positive vertical flight rate, dunno at what load, though. Since when does the V-22B have an RCS? I thought all force differential was generated by steerable rotors. And does it really have serious armoring?

Diesel: alsmost all countries with coast 'Nukular': China, India, France, and maybe some others. Sure nukes have longer endurance, but diesels are more silent, yeah their endurance sucks, but with AIP tech it will get better, maybe one day, there will be a fuel that allows for enough stored energy without any explosions/radiological hazards. -
[Video]Ka-50 (maybe repost)
Force_Feedback replied to Groove's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Well, last thing I heard was that none of the hatches were jettisonable in BS, so a 'manual' bailout option seems far away, especially considerend that the ejection itself hasn't been finished yet (judging by G_A videos). I don't think they will concentrate on the egress part of the ka-50 much. We should get lucky if they'll model the ejection right. -
Well, when the V-22 was still 'cool' I read endless bragging about how safe it was with the redundant gearbox linkage that runs through the wing, ok, I could google for it, but heck, don't think they changed the design that much, removing a key hover safety feature, especially after all those mishaps.
-
And the R-77 is considered obsolete by them (becasue they couldn't get the production up and running), they only develop it for export customers, something new is in the works, but don't even think about getting artist concepts about it.

D'oh, the thing would just lose lift :p They do have some kind of digital FCS built in after those fatal test flight crashes, but it can be overridden by adding more force, at the risk of blade clash, and all the other quirks of that flying coffin with never used ejection system. I'm already looking forward to do some aerobatics with that beast, and I know for sure the first, and maybe 20-ish times I try I would end up in some smoking hole. Wonder if we'll get alternative bail out options, like jettisoning either hatches on the sides and dropping down on a chute, I'm not counting on it, but heck, it's possible in the real beast, and ED is making it realistic-ish, soooo... -
ED...It seems a big deal...

I bet every single install is either warezed or bought in Russia to undergo an English conversion :P The question is, do they ECM blink? -
Okay, how about the gearbox linking, did they remove it from the V-22B? Was it too heavy or something? AFAIK it has great redundancy, so if one engine fails, the other automatically gets into emergency mode, and drives both rotors.

The yaw rate is not limited by the maximum deflection of the tail rotor, that's the 'unlimited' ofcourse, you still need to maintain balance, and that large tail will slow you down eventually, but there is no maximum yaw rate on counterrotating blade schemes. The yaw rate is limited, but only by aerodynamic forces on the chopper, the pilot and how much he wants to puke afterwards. In a conventional helicopter you have a limited yaw rate, becasue at some point the tail rotors can't produce more moment, due to the deflection, rpm and airspeed, hence it is limited. On the ka-50 they COULD like hold the left pedal for 20 minutes, but that would most likely end with a burning wreck and a very nauseous corpse :/ I do have a suspicion conventional choppers have a faster yaw response, because there is no need to slow down a whole rotor. -
Clue: hard landing, your spine is messed up, as is the landing gear, not to mention 700kg of high explosives you skidded on for half a km or so.
-
Yes, if the linking shaft to the other fails afterwards, you're toast ;)
-
I still find it strange that the brakes are not effective even under 150 km/h, and I'll ask again, will we get proper 'unprepared' (flattened grass with metal plates) runways in BS for the su-25(T) to operate from?

Force_Feedback replied to Groove's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
The thing has un unlimited yaw rate, but that's not useful at high speeds or if the pilot has 'normal' SA, but then again, the Ka-50 is some leet, 'I will blast your mujahadeen ass in the middle of the night and take your wife and kids along with you' kind of chopper. I wonder how it takes 12.7mm rounds, the Mi-24 did pretty good, though some occasional golden BBs damaged rotor controls/tail rotor transmission/set off ordnance. Oh, will the ka-50 in BS blow up when let's say a bomb is hit by a bullet? And can we override the FCS? I don't want scripted blade clashes :P -
Guess he's not entirely familiar with the concept of sink rate :p

Duuh, the dudes they fight are rich, but rich in the sense of being able to buy 1 or 2 aging MANPADS, not like buying an airfroce for themselves. In any case the battlefield will become more unfair with all the UCAVs and standoff smart weapons. Being slow is not that bad, gives the pilot more time, and less stress, that may be the difference between being shot at or getting the bad guy on the first pass. The modern militaries should not get too dependant on data links, but maybe that's conservative thinking and maybe a slight hint of the Terminator. -
Yet another ECM Question...plus AWACS
Force_Feedback replied to ericinexile's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
But there are exceptions, all ECM systems work differntly, one thing is sure, the Ka-50 doesn't have any, so don't count on any improvements, well, maybe a 5 minute warm-up period. Forget about fighters, comrade should be flying the Airwol... Black Shark now, with its enhanced mind control, so better start learning Russian... -
Wonder what happens if a pilot drops it? Court matrial? Solitary confinement? Working for the rest of his life to pay off the repair costs?

If you ECM blink, you support communism!!! Remember THAT next time you cheat... -
Now that thing will protect against wind blast, while allowing you to continue playing tetris :P

Guess real F-16s don't start flipping around like crazy after a few tailslides as well in real life :/ F4 LOOKS like a real F-16 sim, but is not realistic at all FM wise, gosh I hate reading posts on frugals like falcon was some dedicated 'sim' (multi thousand dollar) sim and wearing oxygen masks and stuff, thinking the real F-16 flies as crappy and boring like in F4. No sim can be perfect, no matter how much info the devs have.

Politics do matter in such cases, those jobs don't get themselves created, and those shiny fighters to dominate foreign skies don't come cheap.
