The target elevation reference parameter sets whether the target altitude is in MSL or HAE. MSL = elevation above mean sea level and HAE = height above ellipsoid. GPS uses a standard ellipsoid (WGS84) as a model of the earth, so this setting allows you to set coordinates in the receiver's native format, or the regular meters/feet above sea level you'd find in a map etc. MSL coordinates are automatically converted to HAE by the onboard systems in the JDAM. And don't worry about the "above" part of HAE; it accepts negative numbers as well. Anything between -100m / -328ft to +10000m / 32808 ft.

Regarding JDAM system complexity, here is a list of the various launch parameters: Source: https://trace.tennessee.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?referer=https://www.google.com/&httpsredir=1&article=3487&context=utk_gradthes

IMHO, removing the game mode would be a mistake. In theory, someone could have spent hundreds of dollars/euros/whatever on DCS modules and only use the game mode. It's a huge waste of potential, and it is probably unlikely that many people would do this, but it is still a possibility. If ED then removed the game mode and told people to buy MAC instead, it would not go down too well with the users in question. If you think the whining in the VEAO subforums after the Hawk sh*t the bed was bad, just imagine what would happen if ED chose to prevent parts of their customer base from enjoying DCS by removing the game mode. And FYI, MAC does not fully replace the low system fidelity game mode of DCS. With one exception (Caucasus), the maps are smaller, and some aircraft are unavailable. However, decluttering the control assignment menu when game mode is deactivated seems like a good idea.

There is a difference between being able to mount something on a wing pylon and being able to use it. The suspension lugs are most likely compatible with the regular mk80-series layout that pretty much all free fall bombs use these days, but with different aerodynamic and ballistic paremeters, actually using it would require extensive certification work and upgrades to the avionics. Traditionally, the US has designed their aircraft and systems for equipment they actually use, not what they might find in a warehouse somewhere. TL;DR: no BL755 on the AV-8B.

All DME and TACAN displays i have seen have been limited to 0.1NM (185m) resolution, so using it for any distances closer than that is a bit impractical. IIRC, this corresponds with the range accuracy requirements in annex 10, but systems typically perform better than this (0.03NM / ~60m was mentioned in a R&S application note).

No, the company is registered in Switzerland (most likely for tax and other business reasons). This is not the same as the headquarters being there. The address in the company register is a residential address in Lausanne (most likely related to the owner of TFC). TL;DR: all the Russian ED staff living and working in Russia are still Russian. The "Société anonyme" after the company name does not change this.
-
And how is that relevant? Working for a company registred in another country does not mean that you don't have to follow local laws. The topic of modern Russian aircraft in DCS boils down to politics. Don't expect it to be reasonable or logical.

Syrian and Afghan theatre of operations confirmed!
drPhibes replied to WHOGX5's topic in Bugs and Problems
Syria has been mentioned on the TBS site for several years, so the DCS version may be a commercial spin-off from a professional map developed for TBS. If this is the case then that may dictate which areas are included in the map. -
Syrian and Afghan theatre of operations confirmed!

Given the details mentioned on the Ugra Media site (Adana in the North-West, Haifa in the South-West, and 610x440km), something approximately like this could be expected: -
There's something around the 32 minute mark.

Nice! I started on a similar project some time ago, but I never got around to finishing it (that reminds me that I really need to update my PG mod with a few new beacons). I was planning on adding all the missing navaids for the Russian airbases (many of which have regular ILS in addition to PRMG/RSBM), but I never got any further than gathering the required nav charts form the Russian AIP. Too little time and too many hobbies, I guess... Anyway, keep up the good work!

DCS: F-16CM Block 50 by EDSA Discussion Thread

Because ED decided to sacrifice absolute accuracy over increased practicality for players. It's the same in the two other TPOD-equipped aircraft, and IMHO it makes a lot of sense.

The frequencies assigned to NDB are between 190kHz and 1750 kHz. This is specified in ICAO annex 10, which is the international standard for aeronautical radio navigation aids. Apparently, when the F-18 was designed the ability to tune the nav receiver to civilian NDB frequencies was not a priority. Instead, you'll have to use VHF transmitters (VORs, terrestrial broadcast radio etc.) for your ADF.
-
You can't. Different frequency band (~15GHz, vs. 110/332MHz (center frequency) for ILS LOC/GP), different modulation, and 100% incompatible. I made a mod that places ICLS beacons at the airports in the PG map, but I haven't had the time to keep it up to date. It might still work: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=217594

Are you sure it's not installed? It comes with the base install of DCS World, so if you installed DCS you should already have it.

An imperial mile is 1609 meters. A nautical mile is 1852m. In aviation we use feet, nautical miles and knots (NM/hour). Imperial miles are largely irrelevant (in aviation).

Laser overheating could depend on the laser technology used. Modern laser designators use DPSS lasers (diode pumped solid state; Nd:YAG), which have much lower power consumption (and thus lower heat emission) than older gas based IR lasers (e.g. He-Ne tubes).

Have you tried the "WP Increment" function in the control assignments?

Why do we need another Tornado wishlist thread? There are already quite a few of them (hint: on the top menu, 3rd from the right, there is a search function...) https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=219312 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=204275 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=206668 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=155185 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=185456 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=173611 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=173611

I don't think you realize how much extra data traffic this would create. One skin for the Mig-21 can be over 500MB. If a server has to upload this to multiple users, the loading times would be astronomical.
