Did you have flaps set to landing position?
-
Well, you have an aircraft that weighs as much as a medium sized truck, goes three times as fast during landing, but only has 2 (3 in Mig-21) wheels with brakes. That's a lot of kinetic energy that needs to be dissipated as heat through those two brakes. Things get pretty complicated. :)

Different cameras also produce different results. Depending on how the white balance is set, the green cockpit may look blue in other lighting conditions.
-
I guess it's pretty much the same deal as in BAe Hawk. Mach 1.2 is stated to be the maximum speed, but you pretty much only reach it if you perform a near vertical dive at full throttle from 33000 feet.

The mechanic, who has to clean those intakes and likes to carry a big wrench, says: "No." :D

How a water bottle could've killed me - near misses in aviation

Pretty much the textbook example why you should always check the controls before flight. On a related note: I once took off and landed with the ground handling wheel still attached on the aft fuselage. :) -
For a mechanical gyro that's true, but I don't think RAZBAM is modeling the internal friction of the gyro as well. So our gyros might be "ideal". For a ring laser gyro, it doesn't matter what the aircraft is doing, since there are no moving parts.

Now, now. It will be all right. No need to bring out biological weapons.

Finnish is almost as bad: lentokonesuihkuturbiinimoottorimekaanikkoaliupseerioppilas Basically means: an airplane jet engine mechanic NCO trainee PS. apparently such long words break the forum. There shouldn't be any whitespace in there :)

Brewster Buffalo B-239. But then again, I'm biased. :)

There's a good book that I recommend called Suomen Ilmavoimien lentokoneet - Mig-21 in Finnish Air Force by Jyrki Laukkanen. It gives a really good history, technical overview and pilot's perspective on Mig-21-F-13 and Mig-21bis in Finland. The author is a former air force test pilot with over 1000 flight hours in Mig-21. The book is bilingual: it's written both in Finnish and English. Problem is that the availability is pretty poor as the publisher went bankrupt couple of years ago.

Mig-21 is much more interesting to fly now. Nose feels more "alive" in maneuvers. Overall the plane feels like it has mass now. I like it. :)

Sounds to me they are only pretending to work hard. :P

SU-25 loadout question: Wingtanks on outer stations.
Retu81 replied to MR_BURNS2's topic in Military and Aviation
It could be something to do with maneuverability. With fuel tanks on the outer pylons, the plane's roll inertia will be lower as more and more fuel is burned off the external tanks. As opposed to a bomb that will have to be dropped in order to gain the same advantage. -
My vote on the sidewind as well. What happens is that, on downwind side, the wind will push the missile away from the laser beam. And since the missile is a beamrider it will go stupid, once the beam is lost. Upwind side is not a problem, since the wind will blow the missile into the beam. The solution is to ensure the wind is blowing nose/tail direction before firing. You couöd also try disabling the auto-hover and let the helicopter drift with the wind.

First thing that comes to mind is how you filter the noise of the airflow caused by the missile's flight from the target noise. The microphone would be drowned out.

[Story]Why I'm glad wake turbulence isn't modeled.
Retu81 replied to Pocket Sized's topic in Chit-Chat
Yep. It feels like someone grabbed the glider from both wingtips and started shaking it around. :) -
Sadly no. Our air force has since moved to completely western equipment.

Finnish Air Force Certainly fits the bill. We have a long history of using whatever plane we could get our hands on. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_military_aircraft_of_Finland

Pilot: "Aircraft handles funny." Maintenance: "Aircraft warned to straighten up, fly right, and be serious."
-
Can't say anything about weight, but Finnish Air Force did do some of their own experiments with Mig-21s when they were being phased out. One of the experiments involved taxiing on dirt roads. IIRC FOD wasn't any particular problem as the intake is above and in front of the nose wheel. But that's second hand knowledge. I haven't read any actual documents about those experiments.

Am I the only one who thinks to stage an experiment whether you can suck the poor deck crewman into the engine? :devil_2:
