  1. I used to do a fair bit of modding, but it's not worth going through the hoops anymore The worst part is that many mods are fixes to issues that are left hanging for years on end, improving the products that really need it. I understand ED wants to protect their assets, but it's getting to a level where it's not worth the hassle. Not to mention the clunky IC system that blocks a lot of good community stuff in multiplayer.
  2. Expecting a total radar rework is perhaps a bit much. But they could have tweaked textures and lua values to get something more realistic looking. Same with the tracers and cannon dispersion. Anyways. It is ED’s choice to market and brand this DLC as a Remaster. Personally I don’t see the 7000+ hours put into this. Nothing stands out, no extra effort that surprised me. It’s looking better for sure, but it’s barely enough considering how long we have waited for proper F-5E updates.
  3. They can. I just got an answer that things like radar and clutter representation is not a part of the remaster. The cockpit, external model and pilot body is. Perhaps they save it for Remaster II
  4. Great news on the liveries! I understand. It's just weird when you put 7000+ hrs into a DLC, but leaving the biggest avionic feature (the radar) totally untouched. Anyways, these are just my impressions...
  5. Let's start with the good stuff. Cockpit looks really nice and the texturing is great. External model looks good and up to modern standards. Pilot body seems fine, I usually don't fly with it on. Now on to the not so good parts... Radar an clutter representation - Not Remastered. They didn't even try to tweak the textures into something more realistic. Sounds - Not Remastered. Tbh, they are ok, except the cannon sounds. Liveries - Down to 7(!), mostly variants of grey. No Vietnam or Iranian liveries included out of the box. These are my first impressions. The cockpit looks great and so does the external model. Do I consider it a true Remaster? Sadly, no. It feels more like a polish.
  6. +1 We got no nukes (except on the MiG21)) - but the LABS system is modelled on the F-86F, specifically designed for tossing nukes. It does not make much sense.
  7. On the other hand, not having INS is a big plus with the current configuration. Just a bunch of extra work and time getting the thing aligned But yeah, new radios would be nice.
  8. From what I have seen, it looks close to the Mirage-2000C HUD symbology.
  9. Significant changes or not. It's still looking like something from FC3, visually very simplified.
  10. I hope some work has been done to the radar, both visually and functionality wise. This thread is over 6 years old. Expanded weapons and a refueling probe would be nice. But at the end of the day, the basic systems needs to be on a new level for this module to be truly called "Remastered".
  11. It works and it passes IC. I fly in MP all the time I aimed for realistic. Obviously subjective if I succeeded or not.
  12. I read from multiple sources that development of La-7 has halted due to a lost coder (Plexus). But no first hand information.
  13. Thanks guys! Yes, that also my guess. I have currently placed on them a mix of Dog Ear/Tunguska/Tor (no Pantsir in DCS). With camonet and sandbags for protection. If anyone has more information feel free to post. Historically, I would guess that something like an SA-3 Low Blow FCR would be a good fit.
  14. These ramps are scattered around the airfield. Anyone knows what they are used for?
  15. +1 for Early A and Iranian Tomcat
  16. "Trailer Magic" is why we're getting into these discussions over and over again Trailers and screenshots are so slick and polished that many players get the wrong idea of how the Early Access will look on Day 1 of release. And if we're lucky to get an actual gameplay preview it's 90% of the time set at dusk. I get that it is part of marketing, but It's a little bit unfair to blame players for having unrealistic expectations considering the marketing materials. That's why I LOVE Grim Reapers previews and reviews. They just jump in and sort hamfist the DLC's without any worries about the production looking "slick". What you see is what you get.
  17. Iraq map has potential for sure, but I'm holding off on a purchase. It's just not a good value proposition at launch (half the map, no new AI units, no included campaigns). At the same price as a AAA studio title. There are plenty reviews on Kola and Afghanistan, and while some players are happy with them, It looks like Iraq will be another very early launch. So perhaps in the future. I also need that FF MiG-29 to fully enjoy the Iraq map
  18. A-10A in DCS is really great. However, I find the AGM-65 tv output to look much more realistic in this old clip from LOMAC. More analog in a way... Anyways, fun too see how it looked back in LOMAC (2003).
  19. It obviously will never be a 1:1 copy in a desktop simulator. However, I think we all expect the flight model to be as close as possible and not altered/dumbed down on purpose - IF there is public info available.
  20. Perhaps an official MiG-21bis overhaul could done with a group of volunteers under the Magnitude 3 banner? Just like China Asset pack. It's a Win-Win. Magnitude 3 and ED can enjoy some increased sales (Cold War is booming). The players get to enjoy an improved module and developers who love to spend time on the MiG. However, I'm quite certain that the code is so old that it would be very though for a newcomer to get up to speed and sort the module out. Some years back, I talked to a person who had insight in the early development of the MiG-21bis module. According to him, there is a limit how much can be done without ripping the whole thing apart and start over. This module started as a mod, before the concept of 3rd parties was on the map. That's why I think Magnitude 3 reaching out to others in the community might be a good start for getting the module back on track and polished. Adding the realistic reticle and RWR options are signs of deeper issues and technical debt. It could be good to get some fresh eyes and enthusiasm into the project.
  21. It was released in 2014. MiG-21bis release was a big deal back then, everyone I know bought it. It was truly a trailblazer. Up to that point, the only aircraft that had afterburner and radar was in the FC3 package (not counting the F-86F gun radar). I think the players of the world has voted. M3 should get back into the MiG-21Business Also the pre-launch trailer still kicks ass. One of my favourites:
  22. Another possibility would be for ED to introduce a new standard that sits between Flaming Cliffs and Full Fidelity. Just adding basic "clickability" in cockpit and revised TV screen/AGM-65 operation would go a long way. I'm sure it would sell fairly well too.
  23. This is why I would not build a simpit with DCS World as the platform. Unless it's something like WWII or a very basic module without any sensors... I can deal with the viewport system being a pain to set up, but not being able to play on certain servers because the RWR is being exported? It's currently not worth the time (or money) in my opinion.
