F5 Cockpit Labels in VR - How to improve??
DerekSpeare replied to DerekSpeare's topic in Virtual Reality
I have discovered that it is the "Texture" option in the graphics settings that controls this. The cockpit labels are unreadable on LOW, but on Medium they are readable. -
The cockpit labels in the F5 are not clear in VR and I don't know what to do to improve the quality and clarity of them. While I have the text for the "VR Tooltips" nice and big, the actual labels on the cockpit knobs and so forth are fuzzy and unreadable. Is there a way to improve them?

The wheel on the mouse moves you around in the house IIRC. Use the controllers to move about. You then need to install Steam, SteamVR (beta as well I believe) and then WMR for SteamVR: https://store.steampowered.com/app/719950/Windows_Mixed_Reality_for_SteamVR/ After that launch SteamVR and make sure you get into the House - it may take time to load. After that go into DCS and click the gear and then the VR Tab and enable VR. After that go into the controllers tab and bind a key for Recenter VR (defaults to KP5). Then restart and go fly.

DCS: F-16CM Block 50 by EDSA Discussion Thread
DerekSpeare replied to NineLine's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
I've been waiting 20+ years for a good F16 Sim...and in VR will have me over the moon. I do hope it will have the MLU with the color MFDs (being greedy)...and I will pay whatever right now for it :) -
So I'm contemplating an interim upgrade by replacing my GTX980ti (in a 5930k system) with either a 1080ti or 2070. The 1080ti has 11g ram and the 2070 has 8g. The 2070 has Vulcan and the 1080ti does not (as I know it to be). A new 2070 is about 500 USD and a used 1080ti goes for about 550-600. The 2070 scores a bit better on Passmark: https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html I'm not concerned about real time shading since my focus is on VR performance in DCS and other games. I'm also not sure if any game I use will use more than 8gb vram so 11gb in the 1080ti seems like it will go to waste. I'm on the fence, but leaning on the 2070. I'm curious to know if anyone has gone from a 980ti to either 1080ti or 2070 and what their results are in DCSVR specifically (or other games like iRacing, Elite Dangerous or others in general). Thanks for any points of view! :smartass::thumbup::pilotfly::joystick:

HOW TO: Enable Motion Reprojection for WMR
DerekSpeare replied to DerekSpeare's topic in Virtual Reality
Here's what I have: Rift System: 5930k + 980ti = ~45fps with moderate graphics and free flying Lenovo WMR System: 3820 + 980ti = <45fps but mostly playable for free flying DK2 System: 2500k + 780 = ?? listed for posterity's sake... DCS is a crippler. Both systems are not enough. I prefer the Rift slightly. It has a much better sweet spot but the Lenovo is good and WMR is really cool...like no hassle and just works. It's very slightly better than the Rift for SDE. I have not tested the WMR system in a couple of weeks. However, it's at DSD and for VR sim racing demos mostly and in that department it does really well. The modifications in SteamVR to enable Motion Reprojection do make a big difference, especially for demanding games like DCS. -
HOW TO: Enable Motion Reprojection for WMR
DerekSpeare replied to DerekSpeare's topic in Virtual Reality
Yep, it's that 3820...I'm running the Lenovo off a 980ti/3820 and it's light blue. I'd guess you'll find the same thing :/ -
Here is my short guide for WMR users showing them how to enable Steam's Motion Reprojection. Motion reprojection is not enabled by default (at this time of writing) in SteamVR. Here's what you need to do so it is operational: 1 - You will need to access your //steamlibrary/steamapps/common/MixedRealityVRDriver/resources/settings folder and edit the file named "default.vrsetting" - Make a backup if necessary. I recommend using Notepad++ to edit the file and you can get that here: https://notepad-plus-plus.org/ 2 - Remove the "//" from the lines indicating motionreprojectionmode and motionReprojectionIndicatorEnabled Here is what the code looks like once the edits have been made (emphasis added): { "driver_Holographic" : { "renderTargetScale" : 1.0 }, "driver_Holographic_Experimental" : { // Motion reprojection doubles framerate through motion vector extrapolation // motionvector = force application to always run at half framerate with motion vector reprojection // auto = automatically use motion reprojection when the application can not maintain native framerate "motionReprojectionMode" : "auto", // Automatic motion reprojection indicator to display the mode currently selected // green = off because application can render at full framerate // light blue = on because application is cpu bound // dark blue = on because application is gpu bound // red = off because application running at less than half framerate "motionReprojectionIndicatorEnabled" : true, // Some people may experience increased discomfort such as nausea, motion sickness, dizziness, // disorientation, headache, fatigue, or eye strain when using thumbstick controls in Windows Mixed Reality. "thumbstickControlsEnabled" : false, // true = use thumbsticks for artificial turn/move, false = default application thumbstick behavior "thumbstickControlsReversed" : false, "thumbstickTurnSmooth" : false, "thumbstickDeadzone" : 0.25 }, "NoInterEyeRotation" : { "DOOMVFRx64.exe" : true } } 3 - Close that file and save your changes and that's it. NB: You will see a small square in the upper left hand part of your headset. When it is green you are getting 90fps. If it is light blue motion reprojection is active and you are CPU limited. If the square is dark blue motion reprojection is active and you are GPU limited. Good luck and good flying! :pilotfly::smartass::thumbup:

Possible better business model for trainer aircraft??
DerekSpeare replied to Gungriffen's topic in AvioDev
DCS needs a C172 and a T37 plus a comprehensive suite of training missions for both. -
Link?

I'm curious about the last several seconds of this vid from ED recently: RlmUWO2JL6I Since it's really not VR directly, I'd like to know if there is a link on the ED forums to any more information about it...does anyone know? (asking here since folks know me on this subforum :))

A non-zooming zoom for VR would be nice...

Dunno about Touch support since I won't use it for lack of tactile feedback and accuracy (I like the mouse). I looked for an update when running DCS today but nothing :/ Scratching head about it...

Thanks to ED for seeing the potential VR has to offer! Today's news says this: Virtual Reality Update We see VR as an amazing tool to enjoy DCS World and the future of PC gaming for many. To make DCS World even better, we’ve been working on some great VR improvements that include: Optimized VR performance. Touch control that allows direct finger interaction with cockpit controls. Touch control to allow the right and left Touch controllers to act as stick and throttle when positioned correctly in the virtual cockpit and holding down the middle-finger button. These will provide a much more immersive VR experience, particularly for those flying warbirds and other aircraft that do not require HOTAS controls. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3706594&postcount=170 And if anyone from ED is reading, can we get a Label System that scales the size of the text as the object moves from far to near? I can't remember what sim from days gone by did this, but one of them did this and it was a great feature! ...so now I'm off to get the update... :joystick::pilotfly:

The B&H Photo is legit. That's where I bought mine. There's more testing to do, it's not bad in DCS. For 100 bucks it's worth it. I have a VRCover coming for my Explorer, and I hope it helps to make it more comfortable. I have one on my Rift and it's great; there's a new VRCover coming for my Rift, too...this one is covered in velour!
-
I just got a Lenovo Explorer today and it's an improvement over the DK2 :) So now I have a DK2, Rift and Explorer. I also ordered a VRCover for it since it's not very comfortable. The performance is not like with the DK2, which is understandable. However, it's a lot clearer. I have it living on our demo system. It was cheap, too! I recommend to anyone who wants to get into VR without more than a hundred bucks to spend.

Thrustmaster T.Flight U.S. Air Force Edition
DerekSpeare replied to DerekSpeare's topic in Thrustmaster
Ok, so I have been thinking on this for some time since I received the headphones Monday. Frankly, I was impressed with the build quality but disappointed to a degree. My Plantronics Gamecoms are cheap, but they sound fine for me and are really comfortable. There's abundant padding on the ears and on the bow which goes over the operator's head. They weigh in at 260g or so. There's a built in volume knob and mic mute switch and use standard 3.5mm connectors. They were about 35 bucks US when I bought them and I've been using them for years. For cheap, they sound good and don't get heavy, even after hours of gaming in VR. The TM unit weighs in at ~460g, and that was a big step up in weight...it's not a deal breaker, though. However, despite the fact that the foam cushions around the ears is abundant, there is little under the bow. This lack of padding and the heavy weight turns me off a lot. Moreover, the ear pads hit the Oculus headband, and I have to adjust the cans lower than I'd like to get a proper fit. I have a plan in place and will fashion a covered foam pad to fasten under the bow to increase the padding and provide more comfort. I'm particularly disappointed in TM for this glaring lack of attention. The padding thickness on the Gamecoms is 20mm compared with 10mm on the TM. One other "issue" is that the wind cover on the mic tip is held in place with a small grommet. This could be more secure since the foam cover fell off in my lap a couple of times during normal use; those who have small kids or pets should be aware of this since it can become a hazard (I have a small dog who likes to prowl for chewables...) Sound quality: I have good hearing, but am not an audiophile. The TM unit is not quite as loud as my Gamecoms, but it can be cranked up. I adjusted my sound settings in Win10 with the EQ to get m0@R V0luMe! and that helped. The mics on either are about the same, though I get some resonance through the ears on the TM that I don't get with the Gamecoms. The TM unit does a much better job at sealing out the environmental/gaming space noise than the Gamecoms do. I like value. In this case, I am still undecided on the value proposition these may offer. Surely I understand that it costs money to make these, so the price is not unfair whatsoever. For a hundred bucks, shipped, it's a "good deal". They look great, styled after David Clarks, and more comfortable than those if my memory of the days of wearing them serves me properly. Thoughts: I would have told TM to make sure there was enough cushion under the bow and to make the padding around the ears a bit thicker. The lack of bow padding is a huge strike against them for me. If you're reading this, Claude, add some frickin padding... Are they worth it? Yeah, I think so...would I recommend them? Since I'm careful not to recommend anything I don't love myself, I have to say, "I recommend them only if you've read my points here". Do they have a lot of "cool"? Yep...my old Gamecoms are tired and well used. Did I switch back to my Gamecoms? Yes, and I will use the TM ones again once I make my bow cushion sometime in the next few days. @Jabbers: Remember my comment on your vid fro E3 (I think)? I asked specifically about these. It was your vid that informed me on this headset option, so TM can thank you for that :) Anyhow, this is longer than I wanted, but it's my persepctive :) -
Clickable cockpits for the FC3 planes would be NICE. I'd pay for it :)

Aerosoft has an OV10 for FSX: https://www.aerosoft.com/en/flight-simulation/flight-simulator-x-steam/aircraft/1728/bronco-x It's good in VR with Flyinside. I'd like the OV10 in DCS. I would buy!
