I've got a feeling a paid DLC version of the old "Black Sea Resolve" F5 Tiger II campaign is coming fairly soon...

Very quick installation question (sorry) Should my path.bat file be edited to be f:\DCS World OpenBeta\ or the full file string F:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World Open Beta\ (Given my DCS install is on F:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World Open Beta\) I'm assuming the same logic will also apply to the saved games file... Thanks!

Making DCS more accessible to new players.
jasonbirder replied to Vertigo72's topic in New User Briefing Room
Though in fairness...it IS a military simulator isn't it...and doctrine is probably more important than systems functionality in terms of how things would be operated... It seems obvious that if NATO fielded the Su25 (as they would have had the A9 won the original flyoff) then they'd still use on-call CAS controlled by JTACs/FACs for direct ground support...whereas if REDFOR fielded A10s rather than Su25s they'd still use them with unguided AG ordanance en mass against pre-briefed targets... Though I agree...perhaps we've moved away discussing from the first stage of the learning experience (basic flight and weapons employment) which is what the OP was so irate about! -
Hi Guys! Wonder if anyone can enlighten me as to the correct process for using the In-Flight ALignment functionality? (I have it in mind that flying straight/level/fixed speed for a set amount of time comes into it) IS there any difference between using it if you haven't performed a Ground alignment compared to using it to update the alignment? Cheers

I don't want to be argumentative...but what the manual tells you about weapons employment is like something from an A-Z of World Weapons... Aproaches, delivery profiles, weaponeering etc etc...the hows and whys of utilising weapons in a Combat environment not a "top trump card" listing how many lbs of explosive are in a Mk82 -
Now that goes far above and beyond just answering my question :) Great news!

Seems a little harsh! Whatever your feelings about bundled DCS training/documentation There can be no denying two things...fiirstly getting new players onbaord that might not have tried it can only be a good thing...secondly regardless of the technical correctness of the Manuals - they are good for systems/switchology...but don't do alot for telling you the What/Why of how to use them in a mission... I can't see why anybody would be opposed to a) One of the trainers (say the C101 as it seems to get alot of love) coming with a "programmed instruction" type campaign that takes you through from start up to Instrument Flight/Formation Flight etc in baby steps (Baltic Dragons Harrier Training Missions show how that can be done) and b) The more expensive full-fidelity modules like the A10C/F16/F18 etc documentation being beefed up to explain to people why & when you might do a "pop-up attack" rather than a lay-down, why/when you might choose DTOS rather than CCIP etc etc -
Hi guys - quick question...are the "old" A10C Campaigns still playable under our current DCS versions (2.5.6.xxx) ? If not...are there any updated ones in the pipeline...all the newer ones seem to F14/F16/F18/Jeff... Thanks!

Currently the moment I enter a mission...DCS freezes... Its not just taking a long-time to rebuild shaders etc as i've left it for up to an hour... No need to attach a track file as I don't get beyound the "Loading" splash screen (NONE of the loading bar fills) I suspect it may be something to do with my saved games/dcs files...I moved the whole folder and let DCS create a new one...after doing so it now loads as far as dcs terrain graphics unit 97 caucasus.ng5 Any clues? Obviously i've run DCS repair before posting as well! I've attached a log file dcs.log

I currently have (but can't use) the OPF campaign as a paid for DLC - will there be anyway to update my existing install to the newer (2.5.6.xxx compatible) version - or will I need to unistall it as a module and then just add in the D/L campaign from the user file section from scratch? Many thanks for your effort in updating! (Though ED completely breaking a campaign THEY THEMSELVES were selling merely months ago..reflects poorly on their business model and update processes)

Please, in the name of all that is holy, enable dot labels
jasonbirder replied to Extranajero's topic in Multiplayer
That's not because of relative spotting difficulty against the sky vs against the ground... Its because in the real world planes have missions to perform be it strike, bombing, escort etc...often have access to off platform GCI and never rely on 1 ship or 2 ship unsupported flights... The problem with players down in the weeds looking up for targets is not a "spotting" or a "label" problem per se...its that 1 or 2 ship flights trolling around looking for WVR combat against similar opponents simply isn't a thing... -

I'll whole-heartedly agree with you on this...whilst I think the DCS manuals (at least the fully completed ones such as say, the A10C) do a fantastic job of describing the systems and showing you HOW things work... They are terrible (to the point its obviously a conscious decision) at showing the WHAT and the WHY - there is literally no effort made at integrating the systems part, say for example, how to set up DSMS bomb profiles (the planes systems) with the tactical part - what you'd choose, why you'd do it, how you'd deliver those bombs in different profiles/against different targets...there's no information, instruction on how to utilise your plane in a tactical setting... But then taking a step back DCS puts far more effort into the systems simulations side than it does into the combat simulation part as a whole... Hehe - I started with Falcon 4...so every plane i've learned subsequently I've (by force of habit) followed the same curiculum as the original Falcon 4 manual!!! -

TBF isn't that SUPER advanced stuff? I figure if you've got to the point of mastering VFR & IFR flight and landings, comms, AAR, amneuvering etc and are moving onto BVR combat...you're already pretty far down the rabbit hole and don't need a virtual assistant...to have got THAT far you'll have already had to RTFM a hundred times and be intimately familiar with every you tube tutorial under the sun! -

Ahh, yes that is VERY sensible...but that also means modules need to be released finished and (relatively) bug free doesn't it? I totally agree the whole Early Access model is ridiculous and to everyone (ED included) that says Early Access pays for module development...that's just a disaster waiting to happen...surely 100% of income later is better than 50% of income now (for an established business able to manage cashflow/borrow at low rates) -

3rd party and Free to user Missions/Campaigns all have a very limited shelf life...as ED care little for "Content" they break them incrementally with every single update...for a while the creator or interested users try to parch them with each update to keep them working...but eventually they get abandoned... In theory if ED made their own and SOLD them...they'd be OBLIGATED to keep them supported and working -
Few issues with the MFDs brightness/contrast in 2.5.6.xxx and the exterior lights are a bit quirky (assume that'll be fixed in the next update) other than that its in great shape

Don't ask me why...but physically deleting the .miz files from the missions folder (Rather than using the remove module functionality) Then copying & posting the new .miz files in from the campaign folder has them working now... Not sure why a version update would affect the .miz files in the respective mods/aircraft folders - but did the trick anyway Thanks for looking Sabre!!!
-
I've also tried deleting the module...then re-installing the DLC using the module manager No change...straight to the "after mission" screen on every single practice mission
-
Flown this mission many many times (probably hundreds lol) as my "go-to" AAR practice mission without problems... Following update to latest OB release (DCS 2.5.6.50979) when I go to fly this mission...after starting it immediately flashes to the "after mission" screen with no intervening flight... ANy clues? (I've tried repairing my install already...always a good option with mission/campaign problems)

Hope someone can help...currently happy with the last 2.5.5xxx stable release...(rolled back from the latest Stable) As its the last version that most of my A10C campaigns seem to work reasonably well on... The latest stable is completely broken as far as regards content and obviously there are massive issues with Open Beta as well... I've historically stayed a million miles away from OB...but now am looking at some co-op flights witha group of A10C fliers...for which I obviously need access to Open Beta (for MP) Now I thought that Skatezillers GUI utility would help me to have both Stable and OB releases side by side and switch between the 2 but my (so far limited usage) seems to imply that yes, it can happily switch between 2 (or more) different versions in different "slots" - but I have to have both versions already installed... Without enough SSD space for 2 seperate versions (my install is nearly 240GB - so double that for 2 installs...with more space needed when the Syria map comes) Is there anyway I can merely install "the delta" on top of my stable release - to have a side by side OB version installed without messing with any of my Stable files/missions/mods... Thanks in advance...

Not Norman - but keen UK based A10C pilot (SP to date - though used to be in a Falcon 4 squadron back in the old RP days) I've filled in an application form...and had a quick look at your Squadron discord.
