  1. I don't think there is a way to do that but you can move your head position forward, so the back plate becomes less of an issue both when looking up and at your six o clock. Just use RCTRL+RSHIFT+NUMPAD* to move your head position forward, the combination of RCTRL+RSHIFT+NUMPAD(KEY) allows you to move your head in all sorts of different directions. NUMPAD8 Up, NUMPAD2 Down, NUMPAD* forward, NUMPAD- back, etc. RCTRL + RSHIFT + NUMPAD5 resets the head position to default. I only learned all of this recently thanks to the good people of this forum :)
  2. This. However you can't claim that tactics wouldn't change if missile modeling improved and Eagle Dynamics managed to simulate the "real" ranges of all the missiles in the game. By range I also mean everything that goes with it, including guidance improvement, countermeasure resistance, etc. At the very least people wouldn't be able to bring up threads like these every few weeks and complain constantly about how unrealistic missile modeling is in the game. Sure people would still find "reasons" to complain, but at least they wouldn't have a pebble to stand on in that regard.
  3. Since you have an extension you probably don't need saturation, but I would still recommend some curves if you are getting unstable in turns. Probably no more than 15 to start with. Smooth, precise inputs are needed to keep her steady. Then just practice, practice, practice until it becomes second nature. I realize Im probably not the best person to give advice here since I fly with a force feedback stick which makes things a bit easier but the principle is the same, you will get muscle memory from the stick's spring feedback after a while and suddenly it will click together and she will fly like a dream. To practice turns in combat you need to get into combat. There is no substitute. Try and get on someone's tail (even a friendly will do to start with) and try and stay there. Above all keep your speed above 180mph, so you don't cook your engine. You don't need to pull the harderst turn you can, just pull hard enough to keep on someone's six, or prevent someone on your six to get into a firing position on you. Lag pursuit is the best way to get the most out of the Spit without losing too much energy. Patience is the name of the game here. You can outturn any fighter in the game, so keep that in mind. If you are turning with someone, you just need to pull a little bit harder than they are. Of course it gets a little bit more complicated depending on how your enemy is fighting but in a pure turning dogfight there is no outturning the Spit if you treat her right :)
  4. No don't remove all the bindings. Just remove the bindings for the "Zoom" axis function. Look under the "axis" tab, it should be there for all the aircraft.
  5. Check your Zoom axis binds in the options. Remove all the bindings in all columns (for all the controllers) and then recheck whether you still have the problem.
  6. Ok that particular problem is directly related to a faulty Potentiometer or "pot" for short being bound to one of the zoom axis functions. This is why I don't have any pots (rotaries) bound to the zoom axis and instead use keys, or rather hat switches.
  7. We are going to be needing drop tanks for serious escort missions. The Spit's range is not really a problem if you watch your engine RPM settings and boosts, but it will become one once you need to climb to 25k feet to protect and escort those bombers.
  8. Anyone know of any cockpit videos out there of the F14 making the trap? I've tried some youtube searches but so far no luck in finding anything Tomcat related. I'm interested in making a comparison with this video.
  9. Well the 1060 is about on par with the 970, at least at 1080p resolution. The 1070 is significantly faster so it's a little bit strange that you are not seeing an improvement. Like dburne said, remove all the Nvidia drivers in safe mode, and download and install the latest drivers from Nvidia. If anything even if you are seeing similar average frame rates, you should have better minimum frame rates and a much smoother experience overall.
  10. Another quick report now that I've had some more time with 2.1 & Normandy, on the Burning Skies Server. The spotting of low flying targets from 10k+ altitudes is very, very difficult. Close to impossible. I would say it is even harder than in 1.5. As a result furballs have moved even lower than ever before. This will probably be addressed when the WWII period units get full functionality. (Especially the bombers) P.S. With that said once you are engaged it is much easier to keep track of targets and stay on someone. People don't dissapear unless their camo really blends into the background, which is as it should be.
  11. I kind of like the layout and the mission. Though I have to say that the boring sunny weather is kind of bringing me down. I would love to see some of those orange and pink clouds and spectacular sunsets and sunrises and different kinds of weather that the 2.1 engine is capable of. One other note. The fights have if anything moved even lower than in 1.5 I have discovered the best strategy is to fly at about 1 km or even less and simply prowl north to south and back again, between the respective airfields and the target AO. This works for both Allies and Axis. This works for me and I can usually successfuly jump someone. Staying low works, because you will blend in the ground clutter, and those higher than you will be very easy to spot and track.
  12. Still running Win7 64Bit, and have no intention of switching to 10 anytime soon. So far I've seen a lot of people have trouble with it, I don't like Microsoft's direction they are going with the OS compared to 7, and DX12 is not worth it. Not really.
  13. Wow. That's interesting because those models already look amazing. Thanks for the reply!
  14. Cobra am I right in assuming that the texture work is left for last, to allow for any potential 3d model and animation corrections?
  15. What question? A lot of thrust comparable to other conventional winged aircraft, which feature higher lift designs.
  16. Im not sure what you are trying to prove now Sedenion? Yes the Mirage 2000, like other relaxed stability pure delta winged aircraft, is maneuverable at high angles of attack. I don't see anyone here disputing that. It just requires a lot of thrust to do it, since it is also very draggy at those angles of attack.
  17. Exchange that Ryzen for an Intel chip and you are good to go. Im not an intel fanboy, but a third generation (and higher) overclocked i5 will eat any Ryzen in DCS performance.
  18. I see no evidence of that. Delta wings ARE draggier than regular swept back wings at high angles of attack. However as Cpt. Smiley acknowledged, the DCS M2000C drag is too high, even for a delta wing, and this will be addressed. It's probably not a simple matter to do so, otherwise we would have had a fix by now. You can claim otherwise to your heart's content, but the only bias that will show is yours. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delta_wing
  19. For one thing a new elevation mesh is being used. The mountain peaks, towns, buildings, forests might be built in slightly different locations, or at different elevations. Also if I am not mistaken the Nevada and Normandy maps are built on a part of a sphere, to simulate the earth curvature. Not sure that the 1.5 Caucassus map is, though I might be wrong about that.
  20. Exactly. Thrust to weight, weight with fuel or when empty, mass distribution, weight with stores, fuselage lift, stores drag, etc. All of these will affect how an aircraft behaves in a dogfight, and that's not even going into the energy states depending on speed and altitude, and G pulled.
  21. Disclaimer: There is a bug, as Cpt. Smiley already acknowledged. However I have to address this last post of yours. Drag is just one part of the equation. Yes the Mirage has a much lower drag wing compared to the Su27, however the Su27 also has a much higher lift compared to the Mirage. Just saying, you can't just look at drag when comparing fighter designs, especially when talking about maneuverability.
  22. The Mirage is in the hangar, until they fix the low speed, extreme drag at high AoA. And the other fixes for 2.1 are made.
  23. Unless you are a huge twitch shooter pro, i'd say go for IPS. With adaptive, or regular v-sync you won't notice any tearing and the color gamut and contrast is worth it for DCS. You will be able to spot, track and identify targets much easier.
  24. Great stuff. The hype is real.
