  1. My T50 stick is about 3 years old now and things are starting to stop working. I always take good care of my kit, so it's not neglect and I am gentle when using (otherwise I end up in pain due to arthritic hands like I always did with my metal and angular Warthog HOTAS and why I sold it ). Last time I had an issue I got no response from Virpil, so haven't bothered now, not that it matters as it's now out of warranty. The throttle has been problematic for a few months, but that may be down to the software. It doesn't seem to register the inputs for long enough (just the base, the handle buttons and hats are okay) for some sims to recognise the press and I couldn't find a way to extend the signal. Mind you, it used to be fine on the same firmware, so it may be something else. I often have to press or switch multiple times to get the action executed. For the kind of money paid, I expected it to be going well for a lot longer and I'm very disappointed because I don't have much in the first place (and all the spare goes on my hobbies). Without the issues it would be easily the best HOTAS I've owned.
  2. Well I'm going to try giving the FC3 planes a go - I don't need to reach around for controls in those (just need to remember the billion assignments!) so if that goes well, I'll give Vaicom another try - I never uninstalled it so should be ready to try (unless it needs updating).
  3. Regarding my 850W PSU - I just read a post in the FS forum where a guy is doing heavy tests on his new 4090 and he said his 850W PSU is easily coping - so no problem for the 4080 it would seem. Edit: and I just read another about a benchmarking site that used exactly the same PSU as mine and had zero issues with all their 4090 benchmarking tests - as well as a couple of guys reporting their findings also using the RM850x. More pennies saved and less worry
  4. Almost all of my SATA cables are the type that are straight one end and 90° the other. Just wasn't sure there would be enough space, anyway.
  5. Thanks for that - I had some optimism after reading the page I linked to, but still wasn't 100%. I'll be getting a 4080/16 anyway - if the PSU is okay, that's great. In the meantime I realised there may be a problem with my SATA ports, though. Currently my 2080Ti goes over two ports - but they are set parallel to the board, with this in mind, I suspect. However the remaining 4 are all perpendicular to the board, and two of them are under where the 3-slot wide 4080 would go. I may be able to get round that with a PCIe SATA controller board, but I'll also see which card configurations are available - they probably won't all be the same dimensions, depending on manufacturer. On the other hand I may just opt for a new bundle. Have to wait and see. edit - the SATA ports concerned are boxed yellow...
  6. It's far from ideal, but I've recently been using the "Desktop" view from the Home or SteamVR toolbar (edit - or flipping to the desktop when using Virtual Desktop for wireless VR) to view progs and documents outside of my sim. It's not like having it on your lap, or knee, but it's better than having to constantly lift the headset - and it works a lot better than i thought it would.
  7. Thanks for the link - however, this is not an option for me either, due to making me feel dizzy/nauseous. It was the first thing I though of, as I had read an article on using VR like trackIR, where the movement is multiplied and thus head movement minimised - but my brain/inner gyroscope just didn't like it at all. I don't only have AS, so it's unfortunately not just a case of finding something that "fits" that scenario. Even my meds often make me lose my balance, which isn't difficult given that half of my legs are permanently numb. I know that's when I'm on my feet, but it starts affecting your whole sense of balance. My short-term memory has become a shambles and though I can read manuals without issue (just on second read through of the current F-16C manual) applying it in the VC has become a bit of a problem, mostly due to the memory thing (so even without AS it would be problematic). Basically, I'm stuffed, but still smiling! I haven't given up yet, though - you never know what may come in future and I do have very good phases. Cheers
  8. This made interesting reading: https://www.techradar.com/news/nvidia-explains-what-you-need-to-know-about-rtx-4000-gpu-power-demands
  9. This doesn't sound good. I was hoping to get a 4080/16 for my current rig (PSU is a Corsair RM850x) but it looks like not - and as I only had it 2 years I'm not prepared to buy a new one. Looks like I'll be waiting for the 5000 series, then
  10. Unfortunately I am unable to fly military aircraft these days. I am confined to flying Cessnas and the like in another sim, where everything is right in front of me. I only fly in VR and with ankylosing spondylitis twisting in place is almost impossible and quite painful. Sometimes I think it may have been better if I hadn't tried flying in VR! Have the same issues with TrackIR now, too and just can't fly without one of the two - just feels so restrictive, as though I'm in a flying tank, battened down...
  11. It's a real shame I never got to use it - bought it and the add-on bits (in addition to other paid VA add-ons for other games) and have never been able to get Voice Attack to react to my vocal instructions. Never had issues with any other voice control progs (been using them since late XP) but this one just doesn't like me. I had grade 5 in army voice procedure, too. That's the top, btw, not 5th step down! I did have a few discussions with the VA devs, but nothing worked. Frustrating.
  12. NIce - thank you for this helicopter. Even though I don't actually fly any more I'm downloading to have a look - I can always get the AI to fly it and watch them I still read manuals as well - so great that one is provided.
  13. It's such a shame D3DGear stopped updating their VR support. I was never told why (I was beta tester - you can see my Elite vid on their website and YT channel) but I got the impression it was because updates to VR API kept breaking things and presenting new challenges to the single dev. It was the only utility to record direct from output to the headset and I used it for all my YT vids for the first 2 years, until it didn't work any more. We could really do with another such utility, but I'm guessing the same things will put other devs off, too.
  14. Plus the awesome sound they had back then - like no other aircraft!
  15. I really like the look of the new headset and was going to get one - but the way FB/Meta policies (and thereby UI's) are going with VR has made me have a major rethink and I really don't want to stay beyond the Quest 2. Such a shame, but others will make decent headsets, too, so I'll just use what I have now, and wait.
  16. My Quest 2 runs DCS World very solid with Virtual Desktop wireless. 45fps locked for normal ops and drops to 30 (but a solid 30) when there is lots of action or AI. It's very playable at those framerates and gives a good experience. Virtual Desktop wireless connection speed is 866Mbps. The only module that kills it is the Apache - where it drops to a slideshow, even sat in a cold and dark cockpit. Haven't had the need for OTT since a couple of years now, so my settings tend to be standard - though I do tweak a little using Sidequest - texture size, for eggs. Don't know if that has any bearing on DCS, and as all was well except up to the Apache, I've never checked.
  17. I'd normally be happy to, but with this module I get less than 10fps in VR, so I can't do a thing with it and just hoping I haven't thrown away another £50.
  18. Is the Open Beta required for this? I tried yesterday and got a notice saying it was a newer version - I did need to update DCSW release, so I did so. But today it's still telling me its for a newer version.
  19. I can't do much flying these days, but I will definitely give this a try and let you know what I think (not that I'm an expert, but some opinions are better than none!) PS - Campaign is a great idea
  20. I told myself I wasn't going to buy any more DCS modules after the Hornet. But I was deceiving myself. Then I told myself I wouldn't buy any more after the F-16. Then the Hind. Then the Apache. This time I know I will buy the BO105, so I won't kid myself. I love that expression from Fragger: " high Blade bitch" but was he referring to the aircraft or the noise?
  21. Do you have to restart after adjusting? I've always left the IPD at what it was and is about my real IPD - 68 (real IPD 68.5mm). I did try adjusting the IPD after reading similar threads to this one, but didn't see a big difference and they seemed about right until yesterday when I flew the F-15C and found it impossible to get my head anywhere near the canopy. First I was trying to find the bandits, but then when I realised how much space there was I did my best to try and 'touch' the canopy any way possible with my helmet - except it was not possible. Tried to see from photo's if that was accurate, but it can be really hard to tell. The A-10s seem okay, but still not sure. In civvy sims I watch videos shot from the cockpit and see how much pilots are having to reach controls and buttons so I can set it right in VR - but it's a lot harder to do it that way for single seat military aircraft..
  22. Just like to pop in here and remind those who might be interested that I did a set of pictorial start-up guides that go onto the kneeboards and are very easy to follow from inside the cockpit. Module releases up to and including the F-16 are included. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1GpjGrFTJa84Xr6gJ7ZXT1FmAx5MmtafM?usp=sharing In the coming weeks Google are making changes to Drive and not allowing duplicate files and this may affect these guides, so if you want them, grab them soon. Don't know why they are doing this, as I pay them for storage space and it should be up to me what I put where - but that's another subject. Just be aware it may mess these files up. I'm planning on taking my pennies and files elsewhere, but for now they are still on Drive and still okay.
  23. Reading this news, I am hoping it will spark more interest from ED: https://www.roadtovr.com/oculus-quest-2-hand-tracking-2-0-upgrade/ edit: although I have noted that there isn't any dedicated thread on Quest use in the sim, and when I mentioned optimising it for DCS after the inital release I got bombed out.
  24. I haven't used open beta since before the Hornet. The reasons were twofold - that I was writing tutorial guides for my website, so these needed to be based on the stable version, but also for VR stability. I see a lot of people complaining about VR performance - not as many now as before, but still enough - and after building a new PC and doing a fresh clean install of the stable release at the time, I suddenly found my performance was very smooth and well within the acceptable range. I didn't want anything to mess that up, so I've no mods (except some long standing object additions necessary for many user made missions) and stayed with stable to not risk messing that up. I can't fly as much as I used to and some of the aircraft are beyond what I can manage now, so I think it's worth it. I also stopped flying online where OB is mostly required.
