I've got a Yeti Blue mic here that I've not tested out yet. That could be a fun project :) Canadian but can fake various accents. edit: Audio sample here. I turned the gain on the mic way down so it wouldn't sound "bright", but can bring it up to normal if you want the bright, clear sound to mix. https://copy.com/gxpuyFNqPy94WTUl

mobo died didnt have time to back up
Inrideo replied to leafer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I bought some of my parts over time as well. Like upgrading to the GT 650 video card, then a Fortress 750 power supply a while back. That made a big dent in what I had to pay for the core upgrades to get this box running. Building this rig wasn't painless though. I used my backup drive to move all my files from my old machine in preparation for the build. But I got distracted and left the drive connected before using a secure wipe utility on the old computer. (Since I'm selling it to subsidize the upgrade). That unfortunate lapse of memory resulted in my backup drive getting wiped completely. All my data from the last 15 years gone. Thousands of pictures of my dogs growing up and other stuff. My entire music collection. All the video courses I downloaded during a two year subscription to CGCookie. Poof. I almost tossed my cookies when I realized what had happened. It was brutal. Dead computers or hard drives can be heartbreaking. Funny thing is that DCS was on my SSD, so it was already safely disconnected and out of that computer when it wiped. So at least that was one thing I didn't have to download again on the new computer. -
They'll scan through a user list and run the most common passwords against them to try and get in to post spam. If your username is the same as one that was cracked on another service they may have it on an automated list that tries to exploit the password they already have as well. A 15 minute lockout like that is handy since it cuts down on the effectiveness of brute force attacks.

Howdy :) Casey here. I played Gunship and 688 Attack Sub obsessively as a kid. We even had a small after school group that played Gunship in the lab. Single player, but it was fun keeping track of promotions or the end of careers due to permadeath. Only played a few other flight sims over the years, but now it's time to come back to them with a vengeance. If my connection isn't too terrible for online play looking forward to flying online with folks.

need overclocking advice for a DCS World specific PC.

I have an AMD FX-8350 4.0 running at 4.3. I let the Asus auto-tuner take a run at it to see if it would push it up to 4.6, but it fell back to 4.3 again. Not sure if it will go beyond that yet or if it just kicked back as a default safety precaution. I'm using the Corsair H75 water cooler. PS. When I'm not using all the fans, the water cooler itself is pretty darn quiet. -
I had Capsela as a kid. Lots of gears, propellors, etc. This is like that on steroids. How did I not know about this until now :)

Thanks Flagrum! That was quite useful :) It looks like the missing activations occurred some time ago, likely during an update. Strangely it's showing changes in the hardware key last year, even though there weren't any changes after my initial install until I got my SSD and then replaced the whole computer, both of which happened after the date showing the prior activation. Anyway it looks like I only have one mystery activation per affected product. That's a handy page.

You likely won't be able to boot into your old windows on the new motherboard unless you get the same chipset. In most cases Windows will blue screen on boot due to lack of drivers for your new motherboard and cpu. -
Hello? Anyone from ED read this forum? Why would my Huey install, for example, drop from the initial 10 activations to 7 activations left when I was only installing it again for the second time? I despise StarForce activation, from their past history of damaging cd-rom drives, and can't see myself buying any future products if this is how it's going to work. edit: PS. I'm griping because I *want* to get more stuff, and already have steam wallet funds earmarked for the Ultimate Argument.

Congratz to the winners :)

I want the Mig :joystick: :pilotfly:

I just put together my new computer, and activated my modules. I had only installed them the one time previously on the old computer. During the activations, instead of seeing 9 left from the previous 10, I saw a decreasing count. At least Flaming Cliffs didn't seem to count against the numbers. Shouldn't the expected behavior be that each module counts down activations independently? Running under Win 8.1 now, with DCS on Steam.

Whoa. That DOES sound cool. Definitely sticky material.

Just mentioned it to dad, and he had an interesting story about the Voyageur SAR choppers at CFB Summerside. (He worked there until it closed, and I spent a lot of time on the base there as a kid) Once, when they tried to start the Voyageur up in high winds for a mission, the rotors were being bent too much and collided during the startup procedures. As a result, when preparing for missions during days with high winds they did the startup procedures inside the maintenance hangars, and rolled them out after the rotors were up to speed.

I like how my amusement at watching my rotors suddenly shoot past my cockpit windows in pieces has turned into an educational discussion :) Awesome forum.

new rig for Dcs world 2.0, please help!
Inrideo replied to alexiao73's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The rig in my sig is getting replaced this week. At least most of it is anyway. Case: Corsair Graphite 230 CPU: FX 8350 Cooler: H75 Liquid cooler RAM: 8 Gig 1833 DDR3 That will mean a new motherboard as well. Video card and hard drives / SSD are just getting moved over. I imagine the existing mainboard's bottlenecks have been holding back the GT650 anyway, so I should see a performance improvement. -
A very nice touch to the landing. Got a good laugh out of it :)
-
Takeoff went well, but apparently I pushed things to far trying a hard turn. The lower rotor seemed to be off the center plane, and for a moment the chopper flew fine, but then both rotors collided and *FUN* (as they say in Dwarf Fortress) was had.
-
Definitely worth supporting his efforts by buying the translations too :) I picked up the second edition, and third edition updates.

It's decent, but doesn't change orientation for me. So it's good for reading in bed, but when I want to keep it plugged in with the display on, (the kobo has crap for battery life) I'll have to turn it upside down so the plug will fit :)

I sold off my ipad to another family member to help finance my PC upgrade, and now I no longer have GoodReader for my PDFs. (if you have an iDevice, it's a must have). Can anyone recommend a decent alternative on Android? I have an old Kobo Vox tablet that runs Android 2.3. It's pretty much only good for manuals and static apps like a reader anyway :)

Ka50 - Colour blindness and auto pilot buttons

Are there other buttons you need shifted? I'll do a pass and create a KA-50_colorblind livery (base livery but with the adapted cockpit) for the user files.
