[Re-Poll] MiG-29A as a free airplane for DCS:W
BFBunny replied to TheFurNinja's topic in DCS Core Wish List
The current free ground pounder is one of the best aircraft in the game and it's free. You have loads of weapons to play with which gives you an idea of what to expect and the free mustang gives and idea of what a click pit is like. I spent ages playing with the free frogfoot and had loads of fun with it. You see people playing them in mp too. I still play with it for fun. How many mig 29s do you see except when the mission makers force them on you, but then most people end up in other planes. I had to use a mig in mp and didn't have a clue how it worked. I loaded the su and could still deploy the weapons. I love the mig 29, but it's eye candy in it's looks rather than being an actually useful aircraft. You can go online in the frogfoot for free and be a real asset. The level of patience you'll need to learn the frogfoot is similar to the paid modules which sets you as either being one kind of person or another. The price doesn't mean you have to spend and buy every single module. If you have an overall interest in flight then you'll gradually get them all otherwise you cherry pick your favorites. Heck. If you were to buy them all in one go you'd never ever be able to leave the house and trying to learn some of the more complex systems all in one go would drive you bonkers. I tend to learn one aircraft the best I can which takes one to two months and then I go on to another for a bit. You could just spend a few $ on the su 27 or the f-15 and get a fantastic sim. The f16 game I used to play that's not bms was probably less sim than any of the fc3 aircraft and I (my parents) paid like $50 for that! -
Plus the pony is the first clickable plane you get to play with in free dcsw so the mustang paid is a natural upgrade as you'll know roughly how to fly it at first. The gyro sight is a doddle to use and the plane wafts around the sky and that canopy is great. The 109 can be hard to learn in comparison to the mustang and requires a lot more skill for some people. I need to spend a few hours with it again and fiddle with my controls I seemed to be able to out fly the 190 in the mustang. The 190 currently has one of the nicest pits. That stupid flare gun really annoys me in the 109 since I don't know how to get rid of it in mp and I'm British so of course I want to fly the spit. Who doesn't want 109 vs spit even if the versions are wrong for battle of britain. Flying the pony was really fun. I forgot why I'd neglected it as I mainly fly the 190. It's far more forgiving. Really good fun flying though even if I had a terrible time dog fighting as going for the kill only to blow my engine up in the mustang and then crash on the runway several times in the 109 before blowing up the engine on takeoff and then making a near perfect no wheels glide on to the side of a hill. I'd not flown the mustang for 8 months and I was able to takeoff from the grass almost with my eyes closed and get hits on target within 10 min. The 190 is as easy, but I'm learning to use the gyro again and the 109 I was having a bad time in. Depends how you feel on the day.

[ame] [/ame] [ame] [/ame] There used to be a video I think in russian explaining how they made some of the core systems like the model for prop engines. Can't find it though.

After many months not flying the dora I finally twigged about pulling back on the stick to lock the tail wheel. After that and pushing the stick forward at some speed the plane floats off the runway. Perfect every time even on the grass.

Turn the slider in the middle for wing span, turn the switch up on the right and use the @ and > keys or : and < keys to move the distance to target in and out.

The ww2 planes are a blast in multiplayer, I think i Sp they are a little boring as the AI is pretty terrible as it tends to go in circles. Online the players fight in 3 dimensions. If I was going to get something else right now I'd get the mirage although supporting un-finished modules irks me a bit. There are mirage vs mig servers which are as populated as the mp ever is. Are you missing any other planes except these. The helicopters can be a different challenge and are excellent.

Finally getting used to this thing. I've managed to employ the missiles, guns and work out most of the autopilot features. I may even grow to like it soon!

Next DCS (European) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
BFBunny replied to Busterbvi's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Harrier. VTOL for carrier ops. -
I just got the Mig 21 and love it! Although the planes like su and f-15 are good platforms to see whether you like the game. I just built a similar spec with a gtx 760 and run 1920 x 1080 on a 32 inch screen Except 16GB ram, SSD and windows 10. I the game is set to medium high with 2x aa and looks good. I'd get a better gpu if you can afford it like a 980 or something. The only real jet fighters with click cockpits are the mirage (I heard we're not supposed to call it that for copyright issues) and the Mig 21. I got the Mig 21 today after several false starts at full price too. It can do close range air to air <10km and ground attack, but it's a mach 2 fighter and not too complex, but it might be a bit marmite to you. They look bad ass in the metal too. The mirage is not finished yet whereas the 21 has had a bunch of patches even after finishing its 2 year dev time. The fc3 fighters while not clickable are good fun for air to air with their bvr capabilities and modern handling. The f-15 and su 23 (damn, the Russian one that's not a mig) have been upgrade with professional flight models so they actually handle like the planes they're based on and there are plans for the mig 29 too. Everything non fc3 is clickable. I played bos a bit, loved and hated it. I thought bos was going to be a study sim (before I even knew what that meant) - All I knew is I wanted click cockpits and bos ended up not being that. There are servers for the ww2 planes, the dora and 109. The 109 in bos is like a pussycat. The 109 in DCS is more like a lion. Landings can be tough to learn. The dora is a nice place to sim. The pit like the short nose version is far better organised than the 109 and is a bit easier to fly. If you're unsure if the warthhog will be too complex there is one in fc3 that from what I gather has similar if not the same flight model to the stand alone version. The fc3 is also an older version. All the planes and helicopters are fun. Depends what you're into. The price looks like wtf, but when you play one of these things trying to explain to the gf why you dropped that much is like asking her why she needs 20 pairs of shoes. Have fun and see you in the skies.

I don't find the dora hard, I'm terrible at gunnery and need to practice leading targets again. This is more for the 109 as the 190 leads for you to a certain amount.

DCS activate system is shi$t (Invalid serial number)
BFBunny replied to PuffyTron's topic in Payment and Activation
I have no idea, but can you delete the dlc and re-download it therefore re-activating it. I'm sorry I have no experience of the steam version although this was something I did once to fix one that would not work. -
Awesome. Will try that server sounds like great fun. I managed to get the kinda get the hang of landings in the end again and actually end up where I wanted to be rather than where it wanted to land. People want to fly with me, but I was a bit scared :helpsmilie: Typing and flying are a little hard at the moment. Just need to tune my curves to help smooth out my ham fists. Getting there. I only tend to crash when I ignore procedure. Good times.

Not played for 8 months due to a computer malfunction selling all the bits in a 'I don't want to play games' move. Just built a new PC and only have 1 game. DCS on it. Heck, it's winter here in the UK. The girls all have their clothes on and the sun is mostly rain. Anyway. I managed to take off just fine in it remembering the bias to turn right and then spent 15 mins smashing it into the floor as I forgot how to land it. Decided to put it back on the deck and try landing in stages, smaller to bigger till high in the scary air. 30 min later I'd done about 10 landings and broken one skid. I did a few more landings with the broken skid before I noticed my hour I'd allowed had finished. It flashed by in a few seconds. Full concentration. Full immersion. Such fun just to fly this thing and I did not even leave the air port or fire the guns I had loaded! So I thought I'd try a combat landing and smashed it into the deck! As much as I love the huey I'm interested to know the right way to do a combat landing from altitude. I learnt the secret rule that if you got below 50% collective for too long you drop out of the sky like a stone! How fast can this thing come in at I'll be changing the curve on the throttle to get more fine control over the mid collective range where it seems you need to be super gentle. I also re-learnt pretty fast to look out of the windows to judge the ground rather than the instruments. Also why does the knots meter go to 0 even when you're moving. Sorry, I understand you need an air cushion and the collective controls the blades attitude into the wind and to move you're rotors are basically acting as rotating wings to chop through the air. Anyway, any other tips welcome.

Wow, it is really difficult to "fly straight" in a Huey.
BFBunny replied to WelshZeCorgi's topic in DCS: UH-1H
I think you always need some input from what I recall. Hue is very much like a car in that it will generally need small, gentle inputs to keep it going the right way. Remember there is a lot of torque in that rotor and all it wants to do is spin you round. It's a tricky module to master, but after a while I found it fairly easy even with a fairly cheap stick. You may need to tweak your axis settings to help you be more smooth. -
I used to play War Thunder. Testament to my many rage flame posts about the game not being what I wanted although it did get me into tanks and I ended up going to the fantastic tank fest event in the UK followed by the Flying legends display where I got to see the real version of the games mustang which was a pretty unique link to be honest. I could have stared at the gigantic f-15 all day. In my mind I thought I've flown that mustang. I wonder... naaaa. I'm currently waiting on new parts for a computer build that is influenced mainly for the desire to play DCS and having seen the progress on the Spitfire I decided I'd like to get better at the game before it comes out. How many people play? Probably not enough.

I'm not sure what i'm more excited about flying it or trying to shoot it down in the 109.

What are the most realistic modules apart from A10 and KA-50?
BFBunny replied to cba's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Landing th 109 is not that hard, it's just a lot to do in a short amount of time that makes it hard. All the dcs stuff is fairly hard initially. Even the mustang is hard to land the first few times. The huey is fairly easy once you understand the flight dynamics. Landing can stll catch me out. The a-10 has some of the hardest systems. With enough time they all become easy. (even landing the 109) -
It only affects game load times, not actual game performance. OS load time and reduces slow down when using swap file. Since games are so huge load times are so slow ssd is a must, SSDs currently work best crunching big files rather than lots of tiny ones. IMHO - Make the computer fast + enough ram before SSD. Samsung 840 evo drives are good. 500gb ssd are becoming within reasonable price ranges.

It looks like artists renderings I have in some of my books. So hard to believe that it is happening. Truly, we live in wonderful times.

The black shark textures are really old. There is an updated version in the user files section on the main website.

Kinda weird, but a lot less than on my other main hobby, mountain biking has taken. To be honest you can easily buy one plane and perfect that. DCS $1300 inc pc, monitor & stick Mtb $7000 inc bike, gear & the car I brought to transport it + a year off with a broken neck. As hobbies go. DCS is fairly cheap, but both the cash value is not important looking back. I make sure everyday life takes monetary priority. The coolest thing is being able to go to duxford and admire the real working mustang version and for $20 - $30 I can experience a $1 - $2 million aircraft and not only that, but a selection and get a small feel for the real thing.

Comanche 3 - not really a sim, but my first taste of a flying type game. It's what got me into helicopters. I thought those graphics were so awesome back then. Apache v havok More of a 'real' flight sim. I could hardly land them though. Night gun runs using the optics were my fave. Really good pits. DCS was the next time I would play a game with helicopters and I still love flying them in DCS as much as I enjoyed them back with those older games. I just wish we had another 'modern' helicopter gunship in the game.
-
I'd be content with either a 190d like in the game or a spitfire, but an f-16 would probably be my 'every day' plane because of the modern performance. I expect in the real world I'd probably end up with something else, what ever presented the best opportunity. I nearly brought an mod ambulance the other day. Go figure.

Phenom 2 x4 965be replacement?
BFBunny replied to BFBunny's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The 1-5% was based on some comparison websites. Appreciate the replies though especially from everyone using the stuff. I'll certainly weigh the options. It would have been a no brainier if the motherboard was ok, just do a cheap AMD upgrade. Cheers all so far.
