  1. Nope, but it does have the mig 29.
  2. It sucks for me [gets a violin] because fc3 has the mig 29. Before I knew fc3 was basic planes I though I had found a study version of the mig I played in old games. I was a bit sad when I got in and it was old without even 6 dof. I would be sad if another plane I wanted to fly ( I don't want to fly every plane ) was just basic version. Here, have basic spitfire. While I like fc3 planes they feel a little out of place as more and more clickable cockpitted aircraft arrive with pfms. As much as I want every single plane in the world in dcs, I'd take quality over quantity every time.
  3. 109 dora mustang / tf 51 As you get better you'll be able to go from the 109 to the sabre and then the mig 21 to the huey and you'll do the similar things to prepare for it, but as you glide to the ground you'll feel the right behaviour of the plane and where it feels 'happy' to land. Since talking of bos I found the 109s easier to master after getting used to the dcs 109 and in both games I land them exactly the same. Have fun though. All the current prop planes are good fun to skate around the sky in. The dora and the mustang have easier target leading sights though. The 109 is still deadly when you master it and spitfire vs 109 battles are going to be glorious! My fun tip to master in the tail draggers is landing on the grass or random field on the map. It really does add another level of difficulty and it's kinda fun.
  4. Thanks for the heads up. Nothing good going on at AMD at the moment unless you like APUs They need to make more stuff so intel keeps pushing.
  5. Long story short my am3 asus motherboard broke and i'm thinking of upgrading the cpu. I'm not in a major hurry as Im waiting for the spitfire to come out, but I want a cpu that is significantly better than the 965 be. I've got to buy a new mb anyway. I've looked up the newest amd cpus and they stack up at 1 to 5% better. AMD cpu wasteland. CPU is phenom 2 x4 965be 3.4ghz [4 years old] Graphics asus gtx 760 direct cu 2 oc - 2gb gddr5 1006mhz 1072 boost 8gb ddr3 ram ssd Win 7 64 bit. DCS settings & current fps. No civ traffic Average trees range - 50% ish No shadows No birds Max model, effects, clouds (could be medium), cockpit tex 1024 and overall textures. hdr effect warm with 16x aa q at an average of 30fps - 60fps @ 1920x1080 and drops over airfields. no hdr 2x aa at an average of 100fps @ 1920 x 1080 - 100fps is really nice in DCS. I think these are close from memories using in game counter when the motherboard was working OK in Jan. Question? Was my phenom 2 holding back the 760 or is the 760 just rubbish for the fps i'm hunting? If YES would a new intel cpu significantly increase fps in dcs or keep 60+fps with shadows? If it's worth upgrading then what intel cpu should I get? I still want a quad core minimum. Thanks guys. I'm an intel CPU noob. I used a Pentium 4 last. Current prices are welcome. Ideally in £, USD if not. Cheers.
  6. The su 25 is fairly easy to fly, but complex to master the weapons. The complex aircraft like the A10 stand alone you could easily spend many months mastering it. There is a simplified version contained within Flaming Cliffs 3 which has a similar (some people state exact) flight model to the stand alone A10. This leads me to recommend that you map Alt+C which is the command to turn the clickable cockpit on and off and which allows the mouse to move the view around when turn off to a button on your stick. While you don't have track IR or any face tracking to move the view this is an essential button map. Map it to somewhere accessible. You will need to use it on any of the Non FC3 clickable pit planes. Another button set to map is the left and right wheel breaks. This becomes essential if you decide to dive into either of the two German ww2 planes as rudder will not turn you alone on the ground, unlike the mustang. Cost is relative to the amount of well spent time you will invest flying and having fun in sp or mp in whatever plane you choose. Every one of the planes has been re-created in almost loving detail and can be considered worth every penny once you count the amount of hours you will end up mastering it and hopefully having a lot of fun. It's less about getting them all as this has no advantage, unless you try and take on an f-15 in a Dora from long range. I don't discourage you not to get them all as each plane is re-created digitally for DCS is like stepping into the pit of the real thing. However, there are regular sales through the year so if you fancy getting a load of planes or trying one of the more complex planes out it's certainly worth it. The tf51 is a benchmark for the quality of the rest of the clickable pit planes and the easiest ww2 plane currently available to fly which by no means is a bad thing as even the mustang initially is hard to fly and land. The sabre is a really good entry into the jet era as the pit is fairly easy to master and getting off the ground is simple, but remember to map the nose wheel steer button somewhere accessible or you're going to be ploughing fields pretty quickly. Like Helos, you'll love the Huey which not only can fire a bunch of weapons but has the added challenge of carrying cargo. I really like the other helos, but it's almost like stepping into Vietnam. Put some fortunate son on and yeeehaaaw! the ka-50 - which is enhanced by the HD cockpit pack found in the mod section seriously is really low jack in stock form as it is one of if not the oldest release of a dcs module in the game. But it's also the only helo that has modern digital weapons on it. The Su27 and F15 both have professional level flight models with 6 dof (6 degrees of freedom) cockpits so are really great to fly. The others in FC3 are worth flying too. The mig 29 is a classic shape. Not to mention that if you don't like what's on offer there are a few interesting planes in development plus a new map. Pick your poison - http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/products/ Read the manuals for the planes you buy. While you don't have to, many of the planes are more complex than the free su25 to get off the ground. Luckily there is interactive training in the game for most planes as well. Don't forget to turn labels on if you're having a tough time dogfighting as while you're learning it can be quite hard to find your target initially. There are also loads of youtube videos which vary in degrees of help, if nothing they show the potential of the plane you keep planting into the grass and of course as you've seen people on the forums will attempt to help as best they can. Have fun flying out there though.
  7. The difficult level currently at: Mustang - easy to land and takeoff even on grass. Dora - Stick back to lock the wheel, use the lh / rh breaks if you need to and slowly let the tail up as you 'feel' the rudder having an affect on movement then inputs as needed. Landing - read the manual for the speed or 'feel' and everything else is like mustang. 109 - Easier to takeoff than the dora, but landing requires you have both wheels level or wing scrapes you're gonna die etc. There is only one certainty. You will crash many times. To be fair I land most of the planes the same way now. You get a 'feel' eventually. Watch your replays and slow them right down on landing or takeoff and you'll see what you're not reacting to. Worth having a go at other sims like the Il2 clod or something. I found my sweet spot for curves is 23, but that's just me. Don't foreget that you can call the tower to repair if you don't kill or explode the plane. Wheels up landings are good to find the stall speed when you're new. I'd get some gameplay, but my mobo is dead on my pc.
  8. I'll buy all the ww2 planes I'm interested in. I buy what really interests me or planes that I wish I could fly and never will. The ww2 stuff is cool because it's skilled knife fighting, up close and personal. The dance of virtual death. Whatever - buy what you want or don't. Even if you don't like the look of any of the planes they all have their own flying characteristics and are fun in their own right. The best thing about dcs is when you stop fumbling with the controls and can just load the game, choose what you own and fly the heck out if for 30 min to 1h and have a blast doing it.
  9. No danger either. I buy the planes I want and think I will play with. To be honest to get good in one plane takes a lot of time. You can easily buy the FC3 module full of non-clickable cockpits and consume a lot of time just getting good with the systems and the dynamics of flying against missiles especially with the panes with the AFM. I'm sure there are players that only have this module. If you enjoy these planes there is no reason to buy any others. Lets not forget the free frogfoot and tf51. The frogfoot is a fantastic trainer aircraft and learning those systems in a classic Russian flying tank is fun even without a clickable cockpit. The tf51 is a great prop plane teaser too. Getting good at this makes flying the gunned p 51 easy. This really is the best thing about DCS. The prices may seem high, but you only need buy planes you really want. Many people waste more than the cost of one module on alcohol (in the UK) per week and how long does that last. Plus at worst you might (uhm) wake up next to a girl you kinda regret now the beer glasses have worn off. I've not gone along with a dcs module yet and then regretted it later. Even the sabre that I woke up hating the look of I slowly learnt to love it as I got behind the skin. Now, if on the other hand they released stuff I really wanted every week then I could easily end up living in a box with a tin 'change for dcs' and a sign saying 'Will do stuff to use computer to play dcs'.
  10. As much as I like the way the 109 flies now. I'm not 100% sure the ground handling feels too right. I can do it fairly well now, but it looks a lot easier and looks a lot more natural in the real thing or maybe that's what a pro pilot with 100s of hours in one real plane looks like. There is some work that could be done still too it I think. I think this is how they should have shipped the beta version. I still think it's worth buying if your into the 109 though and I don't have buyers remorse with it now. Those paper wings were a bit ridiculous.
  11. What I would not want is dcs to focus on civil aviation unless there was cool infrastructure and mission options to support said planes. The cessan springs to mind. Perhaps because it's something that if you really wanted to it's pretty in the realms of a lot of people to fly. Jumbo jets, etc. Noooo. Only a handful of people are ever going to fly a spitfire for example, but military transporters I would be interested in like the c130 as long as you could do transport and drops with it. But the list of wants is so huge. There are so many planes, so much stuff I think is 'rubbish', but when flown makes me go 'cool'. I did not like sabre and only got it because sale, but again after some time flying it I really like it now. I'd only not want blueprint imaginary planes. Ideally I'd like battle proven planes that are not super-classified.
  12. It's worth noting that there is also a startup cheat option that will start the plane for you. Call ground control and have a look. I saw it the other day on the 109. But the sabre is about as easy as: Call ground control for electrical power. Set the main starter switch to on (or up) Click the starter switch below it Press home once, wait about 3 seconds Press home again and wait for the engine to spool fully. Takes about 1 min. To be honest the mustang can be started in about 30 seconds once you know where the main switches. I still don't know what some of the stuff does, but I can shoot other planes down with all the planes. I sound like nerd master race, but they're really not that hard once you do it right once or twice. I did the KA 50 the other month. First time was like 'holy hell', followed the tut and it seems so easy now! Have fun though however you end up playing!
  13. As there is no thread or at least not a newish one I wanted to give some virtual love for the 109 now that it's out of beta and not snapping wing tips. I've not played it hardly since I brought it over xmas. I sill loved the implementation, but the wing tips and all. However, limited flight time in it is not a bad thing as I could not hit stuff using the static sight. I've been using the leading sights on the mustang and 190 have really helped get my eye in and while I'm no (your favourite german ace here) that fun (training) I had with the other two has helped a lot for gunnery with the 109. Not to mention the harder landing makes the dora a lot easier and the mustang you can pretty much close your eyes for it. The spinning like a top type stall seems 'odd' and awkward, but looks not too bad in replays. Overall the thing is a beast to shoot with now. I hope I encourage anyone who was sitting on the fence about buying it to take the leap. I've not tried snapping the wings, but I've been in a few dogfights where I would normally snap they don't so either I'm getting better or the update has helped a lot. EDIT - They do still snap, but you need ham fists now to do it. Feel free to post if you think the same or tell me I'm typing trash (which is possible) Have fun out there.
  14. This also works if ed goes out of business for any reason so you will never not be able to activate and use your brought products. You can find this information in the game manual too.
  15. Had this a month. Dusting it off. Too tall sir. You call, we haul.
  16. I just loved the fact that the audio guy found the original master tapes in the back of the closet. Lucky!
  17. P-58 of the DCS bf109 K4 flight manual. Whenever I break my wings I pretend the plane is going to burn down and eject when safe to do so. Such a wtf moment when I did this first. 'Where the heck is that fire from? It's going to burn down soon. Oh, it has gone out...' I assumed there was some fuel in the wings (noob aircraft guy) till I read the manual. White smoke to sim the air going out, but fire. It's the simpsons all over again.
  18. To be fair the OP asked why not many people are playing the ww2 birds online. It's a fair point to not play online because you can only spot planes with labels on. I've not tried going online because of this, but perhaps there should be some servers with labels on for 'noobs' like me who find it hard to spot, but don't want to play the game mode that I hear is not nice and want to play against humans.
  19. I hear it's getting that voice software from windows phone too. I'll probably upgrade within the year once the hype passes and there are some solid reviews. I would like to upgrade to windows 10. My day job seems to be mostly converting windows 8 to look like 7. I really like win 7, but downloading applications from websites feels so 2009 and a huge risk of viruses or re-packaged legit software stuffed with ad aware. I like to hope that when I install stuff from the Linux repos that it's safer than going to a website. It's like if you try windows 95 you have to go and get all the drivers for everything. Now most basic things like audio and network work out of the box. If MS were to go sub based with their OS in the future then I'd never buy their software ever again. I only use Windows for DCS. My applications are practically cloned from Linux to windows. It's turned me off office. I rather use the more rubbish looking free ones. Still stoked though.
  20. Nope, they are pretty much the same. If you can land the P-51 with guns, you can land the free civil version the exactly the same. Be sure to check the manual for landing tips and speeds if you don't think it's a controller issue. http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/documentation/ Hope you work the problem as the p51 is the easiest propeller plane to land once you get the hang of it. I killed many virtual pilots in the tf51 when I was learning.
  21. I get the price, but in my opinion there should be an option to: buy the trainer or the armed version at a standard plane price keep the current deal and market it as a discount. (I know there is a discount currently) That way you might: Make more money as people would naturally go for the dual bundle thinking it's a better deal (which it would be even at full price) Satisfy the audience that only wants stuff with guns or the audience that does not want guns. The current offer is well worth the money though. Just a thought for the future. Great work too.
  22. They cover some of that in an old kickstarter video they made and veao have shown some pre-textured images of the cockpits in the application they use.
  23. once you get 60fps you;ll never want to go back to 25. press left or right ctrl and pause to show the fps.
  24. Only does this for me running on p1 / p2. On both it runs at max power till the engine explodes. I only had time to test it in autumn. Did you try the free flight mission too to make sure you did not move the mw switch next to the tail wheel lock when you were starting up? Maybe post a track file?
  25. I expect the germans thought the same thing. :megalol: Looking forward to the p-47 too. When it's done.
