Anyone not seen Helios in Action with DCS A10-C
Loz replied to Loz's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have and do normally use TrackIR with my setup but left it off to make the video. Nothing more off putting, I think, than the view flashing around whilst you are head down. Having said that, I use TrackIR with the full view (ie: F1 view) when looking out to the sides etc. It's a keypress on my HOTAS and becomes very intuitive. No It's not to everyones liking. Some people still prefer to use snap keys rather that TrackIR. But as I said above, I made this just to show Helios and the profile that I've spent a long time getting to look more like the in Sim, by copying it's textures into Helios. In the video I left off TrackIR and my normal use of it which includes Airframe rendering when looking around. If you don't do that it's too easy to lose situational awareness. I'm intrigued about the comment "I would never use a touch screen in that fashion" How else would you use it in a flight sim? I agree it would be great to have screens like mine and render to the whole lot and have the ability to use the touchscreen just in the lower section to make switches by touch without using either Helios or HawgTouch. Unfortunately Windows does not allow that. -

Multi-monitor set-up guide & help (unofficial)
Loz replied to MadTommy's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
If you are asking about pixels size then it depends on not only the resolution of your monitor but also it's size. Use "Easy Monitor Configurator" by IceMaker. It's a great sizing utility that makes fitting export into either TM MFCDs or Helios a doodle. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=71831 -
I may have spoken too soon because very occaisionally I get the White Flash. Rare but it still does happen.

Or with Helios you can put them on a seperate screen with multiple available panels, like this:- A truly great addition to DCS A10C that I would recommend to everyone. (That is if you don't know about it already LOL :megalol: )

Well I thought I'd either seen or read about all the detail this wonderful study sim has to offer but I've not seen this before. I had just landed at Batumi and was just pulled off the runway in the turn around pans at the upwind end of the runway. Having a good look at my Helios pit when I noticed the AOA guage swinging from full scale one way to the other. Looking outside I was amazed to see that because I was tail into wind the AOA vane was being blown about in unison. When I taxied around it to wind it weather cocked back to it's normal position. Now if that's not attention to detail then I don't know what is. :pilotfly:

11.6 has also cleared up this problem for me. No more flashing white squares to annoy. :D
-
Didn't think there was. Are you mixing this up with a "Snap View" of the mirrors for which there is a separate Left and Right view brought up on pressing Right Windows N and M respectively?
-
Good. You don't actually have to set the aspect ratio only the screen size and if you set 1screen it sets the aspect for you. Glad you got it fixed anyway.

Sorry I should have been more polite. How about the "Virtual Reds" as when I was in the service, quite a long time ago now, but I bet it's the same, they were always referred to as "The Reds" No I saved my embarassing attempt at heli flying with Bob from RCSims. :)
-
Only thing that I can suggest (if you still haven't got it running properly) is that you check in "Options/System/Graphics" from the Main Menu. In Resolution you want it set to 1920x1080, in Monitors "1Screen" and then enusre that the full screen box is ticked. Try it then let us know.

Yes It was a really good day out. I went on Saturday and was most impressed by the Museum itself also by the skill shown by the Virtual Sparrows! Impressive stuff indeed. I satisfied myself with a thankfully not to embarissing attempt on Bobs sim in a JetRanger. Was pleased to see one of the Whirlwinds HAR 10 that I did my basic helicopter pilot training on almost 40 years ago. Haha it's lasted the rigours of time better than I have and now that it's safely tucked up in this museum it'll outlive me by a long way hopefully. With four other types that I've flown in my youth (or close variants of) I was well pleased at this nostalgic (for me ) visit. I even bumped into one of my old Chinook budies who was now flying the HEMS chopper.

Yes. I was thinking for a long while how to make the buttons for the various pullouts to look more "A10" like when that idea dawned on me, so they are pratical not just decorative. (Airflow from them is poor though. LOL) Same deal with the pullouts for left and right panels, which are the edges of the panels themselves, the separater between the Fire Handles pulls down the UFC and then to finish on the same theme the ring binder is the pullout for the Airfield Charts. (I've got too much time on my hands.) :megalol: PS. Like your new sig

Multi-monitor and Touch Screen Set Up
Loz replied to Bruins's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Can't disagree with you there Metalnwood, but random exterior light does sometimes play havoc with my TrackIR. Just hoping that if Kinect ever does make it, not only to the PC, but also to DCS A10-C, I will get as good if not better fidelity without having to wear something on my head LOL -
My latest. I just can't stop finding and making new bits to my panel. The latest here has simlike Fire Handles Landing Gear lever and improved pullouts for the hidden panels. Must finish off the hidden Left and Right consoles now.

Multi-monitor and Touch Screen Set Up
Loz replied to Bruins's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Well as things stand at the moment the second GPU on my Crossfire rig is really redundant. I don't disable it but the only way to output the MFCDs etc is in windows mode so the Crossfire isn't enabled by default. So those posts are correct (for now fingers crossed) I love the touchscreen and have had good success running Helios with it at virtually no frame rate loss. If you've not been there yet have a look at Helios at SCSimulations.com, a great donationware program on which you can run virtually photo realistic panels on your touchscreen. Also should mention HawgTouch which does a similar job. If you want have a look here at my Helios setup. Good Luck -
Multi-monitor and Touch Screen Set Up
Loz replied to Bruins's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You may be right in holding off for possible Kinect integration, although whether it will be "official" is doubtful, at least in the beginning, so my source informs me. I use Track IR with 4 screens, 3 Eyefinity and one touch screen below that which I run Helios on, but with the wide screen setup Track IR becomes less essential. Not conclusive, but just my 2 peneth worth. :) -
Thanks Paul I have to be honest and say that your profiles posted on SCS and Gadrocs Single Monitor profile, were the inspiration for my attempt at "realism" it's just that now I am determined to get it looking spot on. (Damn I've even made a copy of the clock background) PS. Just struck me that if I had your job I would be photographing "Scratches" to include in the profile. LOL
-
Oh well. It makes the panel complete anyway.

I thought I might do a bit of flag waving for the Donation Ware program HELIOS. I use it on a touch monitor below my Eyfinity setup and I gives me all I need for flying and operating the Hog without changing my external view. A lot of you will already now this and I would recommend that those of you that haven't should take a look. One thing that I wasn't so keen on was the utilitarian look of some of the panels, dials and switches. So I've been busy with photoshop and Helios to make my Radio Panel look more like those in the sim. After a lot of work, with still a lot more to do on the main instrument panel but this is the finished Radio Panel. This panel is one of those extra to the main instrument and MFCDs panel that you normally view while flying. When you need to make any radio changes, you just press the RADIO button on the left and this panel slides out, disappearing from view with a similar button press. No apologies for the size of the file as this is full size as it appears on my extra monitor, so that you get an idea of the size of the buttons and switches. All the switches, buttons, rotaries are fully working just as in the Sim. (The only exception is the IFF panel which will be sorted soon. Once I've organised the bindings for that, then I will be putting this up on the SCSimulations.com download page, where it will be freely available. (I have no affiliation with SCSimulations or it's owners. I've just payed my donation like many others and wish to spread the news about this great piece of Software that adds so much to our hobby. :) )

Multi-monitor set-up guide & help (unofficial)

Easy Monitor Configurator, a small program by Icemaker, is brilliant for setting up the MFCDs on any monitor to fit either hardware TM MFCDs or into HELIOS. Try http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=71831 -
TM Warthog Hotas owners opinions. Best Price
Loz replied to JIMJAM's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Even with the problems stated above, this HOTAS is made to go with A-10C and with that in mind it is priceless, and adds imensely to the immersion in this sim. I would recommend it to anyone who believes they will be in this sim "for the long haul" I had a problem with the Stick that I caused due to a firmware installation going wrong, and TM (France) were very quick to replace it. -
Sizing of MFCD's to fit Cougar MFD's in A10c
Loz replied to MustangSally's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Exactly my point. Mine are 373 on my 23 inch 1920x1080 monitor. The good thing about Icemaker's Config tool is that you just drag and pull to fit and then when you save it automatically, it puts it into the Config.lua for you. It also does that for the other MCFD, the CDU, the CMSP, the CMSC, the RWR, the UHF Frequency, the UHF Repeater, the UHF Preset Channel and the Digital Clock if you want. Saves a heck of a lot of fiddling around especially with HELIOS. I say again, a marvelous utility.
