Dont disable menus. i think thats bad advice for new users. the F10 menu support can be shaky with just Voice commands, and while youre voice is tuning the recognition-engine, there will be commands that just dont work right for a while like 'ground power off' vs 'on' that you just dont want to sit on tarmac struggling with and a quick F8 will do, or custom MBot-style servers with complex menus and customized receiver-ID-names, etc. (btw this all smooths out after a while, so its true that you should commit to Vaicom as much as you can). Without the comms-menu as a fallback, youre just too disabled. The downside is that you see that menu pop up a lot and it can get annoying, especially when trying to use F10 or something and its misinterpreted as a chat-command. I look back and remember that the first month was quite a struggle, and now i get recognition for my commands and context at like 95% these days. (AIRIO has its own challenges). As for the F-5, i guess i havent flown her in years and not since VAICOM was installed, but first thing is to note that VAICOM is aware of your aircraft's avionics-state (meaning its aware if you havent powered-on the radio , for example, or have it in GUARD instead of PRESET mode). Once you confirm the radio is powered up and you can use the classic text-comms menu to talk to the tower or awacs, then confirm that VAICOM is doing the same. last thing, note that if you dont have VoiceAttack targeted to send commands to DCS specifically (instead of the default which is to send to foreground application) you will be talking to voice attack log-window and the commands just wont get to the simulator. (if thats not obvious. sorry if so)

TLDR: Is there a Jester command to tune secondary radio to a preset channel? answer: yes. you just press secondary channel transmit button and say "Select Channel Two". heh figured it out

you can say "Jester Option" to view the wheel. I think "Take 1" "Take 2" for the options listed or maybe head-tracking or keypresses to actuate.

please add a profanity filter for jester

Making a sound-mod for OVGME would be actually rather easy and intuitive for most DCS users (for new users, we use OVGME to allow us to patch our main install folder, overwriting game files like graphics or sounds, and reapply it after each new game-patch overwrites it). I do it often for my own personal touch (i like to bring some of my old falcon4 sound and music over from the old days heh), but of course, i dont personally care about profanity. If someone wishes to DM with questions, i can provide a template and the modding procedure to make it for themselves. its kind of fun to do, and its not like you would do it one single pass. you just update it again and again each time you find and make a change, and after a couple of months, you have it just like you want. you could then put it up on DCS files for usage by others who desire the same modification. A good Mod that does something similar -
How about this for a good alternative, if feasable: VA-actuated Pins User could pin sub pages and then "SHOW PIN 2" or something similar to drill-down to that particular page. (i imagine there is no code-hook for knowing which pages are which, as they are just flat graphics mostly) Its a feature-request, but would really allow users to make some useful pages to quick-reference. Thanks for your consideration
-
Well we just need more granular control than that. see, auto-browse to the page is useful, its the auto-browse away from that page (for really only having issued a single command from that page. its usefulness as a dynamic dialogue-reference for AIRIO and ATC is almost as important to me as its other logging functionalities ) back to the primary Log page that should have a useful option to toggle that. more options for driving this rather awesome and complex mod would be welcomed. height-width resizing (i see the values hardcoded in the lua) and what else?, contrast or optional background texture? clickable tabs. am i the only person who thinks the EX tab in options UI is growing into a bit more than can fit in one tab? are we limiting options just to fit in there?

Did the persian/iranian F-14 have land based ILS capabilities?
Whistler_RIO replied to Snappy's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
They didnt really buy the tomcat for combat. its sort of perfect for how they use it in their contrained and hostile airspace environment there in the middle east. they use it as their E3 Overlord for which , lets face it, its really well suited. able to position itself quickly, long-range standoff defenses, a big roomy RIO office to work from. I would like to see a RIO campaign that emulates this for us. maybe i should get started on one, myself -

It wouldnt take much. fighter jets are built in a very modular fashion to allow for field-modifications and future upgrades, also theyre sold for export, so they need to be flexible to their purchasers needs. If we were using the tomcat without a carrier, there is a number of systems that could be swapped out. Look at the LANTIRN and how much technology can just be 'patched' in for a single weapon. -
Im loving the progress so far on this tool. its a great first iteration, but i have a few use-cases and options i would like to see exposed. I have been trying to get control of the initial height and width of the kneeboard. at 4k it opens up way too large. also, i like the automatic voice-driven tabs, but i wish there was an option to not reset the tabs upon recognized command issued. I say 'jester' to goto the page and issue maybe 3 or more commands, and after the first, it jumps me away from the page. as a paid product, i wouldnt mind if this got its own tab in the configuration tool and provided a bit more customizability than just a transparency slider.

I have resolved this issue before. Its in the voiceattack and vaicom settings. walk through the setup document and make sure the unrecognized-delay and stuff like that is set right. dont mess with LUA or etc. its not that deep an issue, as i recall. sorry to not be more help, but i thought it important to add

sometimes a service like this is ok to disable, but was put there to 're-hydrate' the driver or input-state after something like a deep-sleep state or ACPI BIOS performance adjustments made by intel chips. We run with like 16GB machines usually (or at least should) and services like these are not what you want to concern yourself with to improve performance, so much as anything like, say, nvidias experience app, which is doing heat-map monitoring of your screen. FPS and recording apps. (i feel like discord is pretty damned bloated too, but we need it) and audio-recording stuff. torrents and a good tip is to maybe run IE as your pdf or reference browser while flying in DCS so that it doesnt run the rather large footprint of chrome. (i do my browsing in chrome but kill it and run IE while flying. Since IE is kind of already-loaded into the OS, its a footprint youre already paying for)

I mean, am I the only person that is scared to reinstall? I have like every map, most of the modules, over 180GB installed, and it all works so good. my HOTAS and mods, all working right! it upgraded from 1.5 to 2.0 then 2.5 and never failed me. are we really reinstalling because they couldn't figure out how to do a install-script that renames folders approporiately and cleans up registry? how, with all the talk they did about 'graceful planned upgrade-path', is this actually an issue?
-
Ya, thanks a lot. I did that and it worked out that only the DCS.openalpha is needed. My update history is simple. ive been on 2.x since it launched, with this one install. hell ive not even reinstalled this OS in 4 years because of all the BS it takes to sort out the license keys when you've owned some of these modules since before Obama. So, right now my install is in a folder named "DCS World 2 OpenAlpha" as well as the registry key is named that, and the SavedGames folder, but im actually running OpenBeta latest. (and it runs fine really. the only problems come up with third-partys like VAICOM)
-
In my Saved Games folder, since openalpha, there is 3 folders: DCS DCS.openalpha DCS_AJS37 Only the openalpha folder seems to have most files in it. the other two have scripts folders and some mods folders. which of course makes sense, since most third-party tools (Tacview, SimpleRadio, Vaicom) are going to look for the DCS folder. So how do we clean this up? How are you guys running it? Why cant I find anybody else asking about this question in forums?

DCS World TARGET profile for TM Cougar and Warthog + MFDs
Whistler_RIO replied to Home Fries's topic in Thrustmaster
Four -- in the first image, when youre looking at the System Game Controller interface, you see how it lists the Cougar Joystick? thats bad. When operating correctly, you should see all your TM hardware unified into a single device. This means that you need to modify your CTS settings to identify the Cougar stick. goto VALUES dialogue screen in CTS, and be sure that you have the correct value set on the right-side column, setting zero for WARTHOG JOYSTICK and WARTHOG THROTTLE values. I had an issue where my MFDs had a short and werent usable, and had issues building correctly. its possible that the DCSInit files in the TARGET profile doesnt have an exception for when it doesnt find the MFD devices. It would be nice if there were a new value that identified that case and just required the user to go back to CTS and identify a new plane in SETTINGS/STARTING PROFILE then rebuilding the script and relaunching. (a pain really. definitely get those MFDs asap. i replaced mine immediately. theyre pretty cheap and worth it). that said, after doing a rebuild a few times and patching to the latest build correctly, it did end up working for me with just one single MFD for a short while. Im going to make the suggestion in a bug-report and see what HF can maybe do for this situation, if he sees a need and agrees, of course.- 2260 replies

there has to be a way to cleanup though, right? where are the installers stored? i see that when downloading the 'repair files' its a whopping 36GB torrent, so when its finished, for example. how can i clean that out ?
