SimShaker for Aviators software will not run
Whistler_RIO replied to navyao's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
well i have had some oddities with the taskbar icon actually. I have both the SimShaker For Aviators, as well as the payware SimShaker-Wings and only the Aviators one gives me problems sometimes. I think you should try a laptop or second PC or something just to confirm that it is software and maybe windows thats somehow killing the app. its an easy way to ensure that the device itself isnt faulty. i had a faulty controller on my JetSeat that i had to get repaired by Andre. he was great and did it for pretty cheap, but it was a long shipping time and wait. -
Great. Thanks for the support.

you know I was about to file a bug for this exact stage and point in the mission, but now you say you just ran it so I wonder if you can help me too. Twice now, I kill both choppers and get the message to keep my ammo for further assignments, but I never get that next event to fire. looking at the mission in ME I see that there is a building of enemies to take out or something but it won’t initiate for me even if I orbit over at low altitude. Also, small note that I don’t think the AWAC being on channel 11 is anywhere in the briefing. I think I was still on 12 from the airport, but had received all comms so far to that point. Could I be on the wrong channel?

just wanted to add that recent patch seems to have this much more stable now for me

Mission 7 - wingman is silent
Whistler_RIO replied to tsgucci's topic in F-14A Fear the Bones Campaign
It helps to set radar to LARGE aircraft, which will make it go pitbull sooner. Good to know now about the silent wingman. i thought it was a bug too. -
I get good hits with phoenix. killing up to six, (i mostly play as RIO in squadron so maybe just a bit more experienced. i get two to four usually with phoenix BVR at around 70m and then two more after merging. those bombers are fast and high and not easily hit with Fox2) and yet everytime i get the GAME OVER text. a bug that i kind of think is in your side, Inverted, is that the wingman is not behaving correctly. he seems to maybe not launch or if he does (i dont know because im rushing to merge with bombers) he doesnt respond on comms at 269.00 which it shows him to be at. i could really use his help engaging bandits! Learned that wingman is just silent but still executes commands! I guess im supposed to try and intercept the missiles? Maybe im spending too much time in the back seat and so maybe Iceman isnt pushing burners hard enough?

yeah, maybe its useful to mention or explain what a programming API is. its a 'black-box' that you interface with by feeding values into, and it does its thing. you can change the values, but you cant modify what it does with them. YouTube is an example of an API. you can build any website and house youtube videos, but you instance them by feeding youtube its required values, and it does what it does in a very restrictive way that you cannot override.

quite the opposite. the AC should be set to BOTH for alignment

Youre not wrong. i dont know what near_blind is talking about, but i definitely can reproduce a good number of issues with Jester and ACLS/Link-tuning. Im a RIO, and when i fly single-player, i jump back into the RIO pit to confirm settings i request from Jester, and he is not right about link-tuning almost ever, except at start-up (which is often wrong too) My impression is that the actual frequencies displayed in our kneeboard (generated by heatblur) might be wrong. Just tell Jester to link-host with Overlord (or whatever awacs you have) and then jump into the backseat and confirm the values. its all over the place. If i , while in marshal-stack with time to kill, jump into the backseat and setup and confirm my data-link settings, i get ACLS working just fine. but doing it through jester is not working right. My guess is that your link frequency is being set to Ticonderoga or another ship. just confirm the numbers with your kneeboard, and you will see what is at issue. good luck

Has new commands been specified yet for the iceman new 'navigate to steerpoint' and 'orbit steerpoint', as well as lantirn? I saw the update today but did not see any new document updates to tell us the new command sentences

Im guessing that its the POV-Center button. Notice how it doesnt really list that as a physical button but has it pressed logically when you look in the inspector? I bet thats throwing it off. the problem is that its not listed in the physical button fields , only the directionals. There must be some way to disable the auto-pressing of center with some kind of MODE modifier.

i see the same issue using a WarBRD and TM stick, and warthog bugs that come from it. im curious about the setting under BUTTON - Hardware buttons modifications - POVs 1-4 mode. maybe thats related?

Thanks for the update, Hollywood!

This work is fantastic. Thanks so much for your prolific efforts. I have a quick question. are the ScriptMod modules backward-compatible? like, should i point my older campaigns to the latest ScriptsMod or keep them peer-dependant (i have about six folders now. theyre small and its no inconvenience) - are they benefits to using latest scriptsmod? TIA

Great news! This was my first serious module years ago and I’m pretty excited to get reacquainted with her now that her fidelity is going to be raised so much higher. The mirage is a very strong Dogfighter IMO when used to her strengths

Thrustmaster HOTAS Magnetic Base - worth it?
Whistler_RIO replied to CybrSlydr's topic in Thrustmaster
it has been taken-apart to reveal/confirm that the new 'magnetic base' is nothing more than the standard base sold seperately as its own SKU. i was excited for hot second myself that maybe TM was selling an upgrade sensor system, but no luck there. its not worth it to buy this on its own except maybe for replacement. -
Got it and it works great, but REALLY PAY ATTENTION to the bold text regarding how to handle the screw-guides when putting it back together. it is very easy to accidently come out and your screw ends up scratching that small PCB board and then youre borked entirely (thrustmaster sells replacement around 60$ before shipping thank god). DeltaSim appropriately warns about using a flashlight to check for wires in the way as well. i saw someone above say "did it in ten minutes no problem" and that just made me want to urge folks to go slowly and take your time on this one. i recommend a small bit of simple glue to just give enough stick to keep the three screw-guides in place before replacing back into the throttle-handle

New user - can't get options menu to show in game (and other issues)
Whistler_RIO replied to Kula66's topic in VAICOM
I fly tomcat with airio online. If you say 'Link Host" it will briefly list the immediately-available hosts (sometimes they havent launched yet or are out of range). I have noticed that it doesnt always correctly tune the correct host both online or offline. so if i say "Link host Focus", it will acknowledge the command, but then if i go into the RIO cockpit and confirm, its set to Ticonderoga ship and not the Hawkeye assigned that callsign. I usually just manually enter it myself instead, but i think this might be a new bug. -
If i may ask ya, Am i understanding you correctly then that these panels dont just operate as DX-buttons that i can freely map however i want? do you have to use some kind of software or is this just for extra features like flashing stuff? (which i dont really care about)

would love to know Hollywood is aware of this issue and an update is on the way.

not really an alternative, rather its exactly how we wanted our simulator to behave, in a hi-fidelity emulation of reality. the one-button start feature is like for absolute beginners who play in unrealistic arcade-mode, like my little sister, for example.
