If the lights are going on and off then the trim is working. I would suggest running a repair of DCS just to make sure, but if everything's working a light going off after you activate the trim means that trim is working.

Countermeasures Presets, maverick slew rate etc.

Yes, this type data needs to be kicked out of the options screen, and become part of the mission planning and .miz file. It doesn't belong there IMO. -
Under what scenario would this be helpful?

KA-50 also has some icing effects I believe. I know the ice detectors work, and I seem to recall a power loss I could only resolve by turning on the engine anti-ice.

can not reproduce F18 rolling right with no reason

Why did the even model pylon removal? I get the visual aspect for the Blue Angels, but why the FM changes? -
I find heading hold to be very accurate. But there are many reasons that you could find this not to be the case, including sub-modes, errors, limitations etc... I'm assuming this is the scenario in which you are having problems? I didn't do any of the ranging tests you described, but I did fly and shoot the rockets at the trucks. Yes if you try and using Heading Hold you're going to have a very rough time because it's a constant fight between the autopilot, piper alignment, and constant resetting of the Autopilot. Frankly it was basically impossible. I disabled the Heading Hold by enabling the Flight Director (stability augmentation only) mode, then with some quick practice destroyed 6 trucks. On the return to Mozdok, I again enabled the autopilot mode and it held constant heading, then I engaged route mode and it navigated back to base. It's a powerful but many times confusing autopilot system. Helps answer the question why many attack helicopters still have a crew of 2 :music_whistling:

When I connect to a drogue I continue forward for perhaps 10'..give myself some room in case I start moving backwards before a disconnect occurs.

Just to clarify some terminology for you Taz, Heading = The direction in which the nose of the aircraft is pointing during flight. Course = The intended path of an aircraft over the ground or in the direction of a line drawn on a chart representing the aircraft path. Track = The actual path made over the ground in flight. Bearing = The direction to or from any point to some other reference point.

Making DCS more accessible to new players.
randomTOTEN replied to Vertigo72's topic in New User Briefing Room
I thought this was a topic that was good enough to leave alone, but since we're talking about it (let's not call it "argumentative..." just a friendly discussion). two thoughts on this: 1.) This sort of detail isn't needed for a new user to get bombs on target. Yes, as Sharpe has mentioned it's "above and beyond," certainly for the A-10, but in other aircraft some of this information is included. I speak purely of delivery profiles. For example, the F-5E-3 includes airspeeds, altitudes, and visual references for bomb, rocket, and strafing attacks. It's documentation (and tutorial missions) requires it, because there are no CCIP or CCRP bombing modes. For something like the A-10/Ka-50? I guess they have to leave something to be discovered by the player. The player is doing really good if they get to this point. I don't think any module which has the ability for computed bombing solutions includes any settings for fixed depression bombing, even though they all have the ability to select a fixed backup aiming sight. 2.) I have some FS2004 freeware aircraft that include this level of documentation (even though all weapons are INOP), and it's absolutely an enormous amount of information. Where the bases are, where the targets are, time of day, weather, threats, defenses, support, warload and fuel compromises, power settings, altitude choices, navigation techniques. Very good information, and something like it would greatly improve the experience of many DCS users, but so far beyond simply putting ammunition on target that it can be left until after the basic skills provided by ED's (and repeated/expanded by outside parties) training materials are attained. These are notepad files that take days to read and process... -
can you post a short track?

In the F/A-18C you can also just build a WP on the airfield using the L/L from the kneeboard, then set the CRS to the runway heading. When ATC give the vector to final you just fly that heading until the course needle centers and you're lined up. It's not the real way it's done but it'll get you in the proper place. Good enough for DCS.

good question. that doesn't look right.

Making DCS more accessible to new players.

Never ceases to amaze me the claims people make about a document they've never read. Again, quoting the A-10C Manual: A-10 Evolution A-10 Missions Operational Use A-10 Stores it literally tells you the design target for the development program (what the aircraft was specifically designed to do), the mission types that it flies, the actual combat record of the aircraft (how it was actually used), and then an introduction of each weapon type, including a short history and recommended targets (what weapon you should bring for what target). You mean like the multiple instances of users trying to understand his point of view, meet him in the middle and discuss actual issues with the simulator and it's training materials... and then get summarily dismissed because it wasn't his desired solution, and suggested he do things he individually didn't want to do, no matter the benefit? -
Why not just fly in the direction given by ATC until you intercept the approach course?

I use the pause function in TrackIR a lot. Use my head to look a something like the CDU/UFC/DED/CK37, then pause the view to input information. I can move my head more freely (look at notes etc..) without having to "find" the unit again. When I'm done I unpause and resume TIR use. I consider a custom profile basically mandatory. It really teaches you about the system and lets it cater to your individual tastes. For view control when TrackIR is paused/not used, I just use the arrows on my numpad (default DCS POV bindings). I have no POV joystick bindings. If I need quick view control I use head tracking. If I don't then I obviously have enough time to use the somewhat clunky keyboard commands.

yeah lets see a short track.

It used to be that way but I think they changed it. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=252871 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=216672 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=213998 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=213383 Perhaps they now assume the pilot removes the disabled/failed mask if cockpit air pressure is enough to breathe normally?

Making DCS more accessible to new players.

I also think it's important to separate the issues with the training missions and documentation from Vertigo72's spurious, "I want a virtual buddy to hold my hand so I don't have to read the manual." You've been debunked multiple times, RTFM as a bare minimum. Pikey made a very good post about the history, and looking back it seems one of the issues isn't that DCS training could be improved, but instead that DCS training has been degraded. Looking back on the training missions and manuals. It's obvious that some content is being cut. As I demonstrated in my investigations of the manuals, many of them lack the important communication chapter that describes how radios work in DCS. There was much more in regards to flight theory in the earlier manuals. The Ka-50 even includes a printed suggested set of bindings for the X52 HOTAS system. So I wanted to reference the old Ka-50 training videos by Wags. These have since been replaced by "interactive" missions to the A-10C (and now all modules) standards. But a lot of content was cut, content that people like Vertigo would have greatly appreciated. The old videos numbered 22 in total: Here is an HD playlist, You don't even get to the Cold Start until video #4. There are 3 videos before it, encompassing Introduction, Cockpit Orientation, and to Vertigo's satisfaction, a 19 minute video describing how radio and ground communication work in DCS. Before you even try to start the engine. This is substantially more content compared to the "new" interactive missions.. in which the first one is titled "Aircraft Start-up." So while he sees lacking content and the need for a virtual buddy, what we should be seeing is the content which should already be there but isn't. Likewise, many consider the AV8B-NA's training as comprehensive, but it's also possible that always was the standard, and has since been relaxed to the point of frustration for new users. Us old Kamov and Warthog drivers might not see the problem here, because we look at something like the F-14 and care about the type conversion, but not so much the basics. This is a good point to not leave that aspect of the simulation behind as we move to the newest and shiniest jet. Perhaps people like Vertigo would have a better experience with the interactive (or hell not interactive) missions and TFM if they were brought back to standard, instead of a redundant UI overhaul so they can get their hand held. -
On the bottom left, there should be an option "I already have an Activation Key."

[REPORTED]MIG 29S has huge bounce on landing
randomTOTEN replied to H-var's topic in MiG-29 for DCS World
Possibly... but it seems like a handy work around to avoid this bug, yes? Especially as it's compliant with the RL operating procedures.:book: -
You mean like the one it's had since day 1 of early access?
