IMO there's been a neglect in this aspect of development because many (new) users just don't want the realism. My opinion is that the Su-25 family in DCS has some of the best landing gear suspension modeling of any aircraft in any flight simulator, likely to even include FS2020. This causes possibly some grief from users that might not be prepared for it. I know I've blown many tires and gotten stuck many times when I was new on the Su-25. That's part of the fun! Key words here being "ill prepared dirt/grass fields" What you consider ill prepared might actually just be "ill maintained" but regardless of this distinction, even you admit that these surfaces have been *to some extent* prepared for aircraft operation. You can't say the same thing about the grass next to the taxiway in Gudata. You can't say the same for the grass next to the runway at Gudata either, or really any runway in the entire world. They were never *prepared* in any way whatsoever for bear the weight of an aircraft, let alone an attack jet! Not all underlying earth is the same, even if it has the same species of grass on top of it. You should absolutely be punished for this operating mistake. Just as you should be punished with blown tires and collapsed gear by landing too hard, or rolling the tires with excessive groundspeed causing them to burst. Newer aircraft aren't better made, they're worse! Yeah, okay the F/A-18C is designed for CV landings, but currently users can land 1500FPM+ with no damage. They can arrest a wire at 400knots and not rip it off. Users can slam the F-16 on the pavement with no damage to the gear. Likely worse. It should be getting stuck too. The Mig-29 also punishes users for landing nosewheel first. It took pages before the narrative could change from "it's impossible to land" to "it's behaving incorrectly to bad handling." The nosewheel should likely collapse or bounce with less severity when slammed, but users complained that any bouncing was incorrect. Somebody even posted a video of a hard landing on the mains, and tried to argue that a landing on the nose should behave the same. They then tried comparing it to the Su-27, where you can land on the nosewheel with no punishment. That's not an improvement, that's regression in physics. You should absolutely be punished with a hard bounce or gear collapse with such negligent handling of the Flanker! Just like you've posted a video of a jet on an airstrip, and assert this should apply to any random stretch of grassy field on earth. It doesn't... not automatically. Notice how few off-road tricycles exist? It's not a good design for an off road vehicle. But it's a good design for jet fighters. Surprise that jet fighters can't go fast off-surface...even when equipped with big tires. But if you go too slow on earth that hasn't been prepared to bear aircraft loads you dig in and get stuck. It's a fine line you walk, and you can't guarantee that you win. That's why surfaces are prepared for this type of thing. I just made 4 attempts at this next to Senaki with no success... I would very much like to see somebody post a track of a successful landing off-surface (gear down). The sim does a functional job of gear up landings at least. Why should any of this matter? This is a simulator, not a competitive game. The point isn't to 'buff' an aircraft for online balance. The real aircraft can do certain things, and it cannot do certain things. Lets talk about what it can and cannot do, not what gets you a higher points on the scoreboard. As of yet, I don't think your claim of "more accurate" is valid.

there's all kinds of issues now... ADF audio selector switch works fine, but like you said all volume rotaries I tested (VHF COMM, VHF NAV, ADF) will not stay at the limits of travel, clicking them again will cause the knob to recycle to the other extreme. The VHF COMM and NAV have problems with their frequencies going way outside the usable ranges for the types of transmitters. Flying around Beirut I was receiving the Damascus VORDME on the Communication radio 116.0Mhz AM!

Why are you running the engine up against the brakes during an INS alignment?

I see an interesting option for the Mi-8MTV2 in the mission editor. Is that new as well?

These videos apply to primarily civilian units, and of the older design which use mechanical gyros and accelerometers. They should inform on the theory of modern military units, with laser gyros and accelerometers. Topics such as alignment, the importance of True North, and the problems caused by motion during alignment are addressed. Here's laser gyros,

I thought it worked great when I tried it in Nevada? I'll try it again.

not realistic Change map on the flight? Different Scales map
randomTOTEN replied to pepin1234's topic in Wish List
If this is indeed how this works, I have an idea on how to make it usable in DCS. I'm assuming the Mi-24 won't be using the Ka-50's target waypoint system TP(X), so I suggest modifying this feature for the Hind to be map points. I just had this idea. Here's how I see it working: During mission planning/creation, "map points" are placed in the mission, which will coincide with the center of the desired map sheet. This will tell the Mi-24's DISS map which part of the native ME/F10 Map layer to display (the sectional chart etc). This "map point" also has a scale value included, which tells the Mi-24 how zoomed in the map sheet should be for map point. There is a click spot on the center of the map display in the cockpit, and by clicking it the placed map points are cycled, simulating the changing of map sheets. It would be nice to also have the ability to link to images stored within the mission file, so mission builders can create custom images as other users have mentioned. By default the aircraft starting location is also a "map point", resulting in an appearing map sheet even if no other points have been placed, with the user aircraft in the center. The user operation is something like this: 1. Map points are placed during mission creation/planning, coinciding with desired map sheets, and defining the scale used. 2. The user clicks the center of the display to change map sheets until finding the one desired. 3. The user sets the correct map scale with the cockpit control, allowing the cross hair to move at the correct rate. 4. The user corrects the DISS position cross hair with cockpit controls. 5. When the user wishes to change map sheets, they repeat steps 2-4. To simplify this process, have an option for an automatic map sheet management system. It can either transform the entire process to a true moving map (Hind always in center, scale control zooms the map) or perhaps have the map sheets linked to flight plan waypoints (and advanced waypoint action?) The map point could also have some sort of boundary in the ME/MP based on the selected scale which shows exactly which parts of the map will be visible on the cockpit screen. -
I also welcome the eventual inclusion of RSBN units... I hope you mission designers don't overdo it with these and place them all over the map. And watch out for frequency interference!

When did we get the ability to add a mobile TACAN station to a mission? I am so incredibly happy with this update, and the state of DCS right now. Everything seems to be working great. I had a excellent experience in MP and SP with the SuperCarrier, Hornet, and Syria. Flew a sortie from the new Kuznetsov. Exploring the new alignment options for the Hornet, the new EXP radar modes. And I now just discovered we have TACAN units in game. I'm incredibly impressed right now, and I know there have been some tough patches with bad updates and development delays. Right now I'm just another satisfied customer if that helps...

INS improvements in the 19 Aug 2020 Open Beta
randomTOTEN replied to Santi871's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
I'm happy to report that CV CBL (Cable) is in fact enabled! What's the logic for determining if CBL or RF is used for the CINS?:pilotfly::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: -
INS improvements in the 19 Aug 2020 Open Beta
randomTOTEN replied to Santi871's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
How does Stored Heading work with a CV start? The ship is presumed to be constantly moving? Will we have an option for CV Cable connection at some point in the future? I'm not really interested in the visual aspects of this, just the systems difference between it and RF. -
Well then don't. Volume of 1 is greater than 0, and you can't hear the code.

You can't just choose an ILS beam from the map and use it. Their operation is dependent on which direction the ATC flight pattern is at the airport. If ATC isn't using that runway for landings (they don't assign it to you i.e. the winds don't favor it), then that ILS transmitter won't be turned on. Same for the NDB's on the approach.

I looks like you guys have adjusted the approaches to bridges in Adana. Very nice. It's gonna be difficult to tastefully ask this, but I'll try my best. Beirut looks very good from the screens and video you have posted. I'm hoping no changes are made purely to account for the recent unfortunate event that happened in that city. I'd prefer in that aspect that this map reflects a "before" state... Thanks.

The issue isn't fixed if you actually bought those modules and cannot use them. Do you own these aircraft? You should in any case have access to the Su-25T, as it's free and included in the base game. Enable all modules that you actually own, there should be a link on the bottom left of the activation dialog, "I Already Have an Activation Key."

Maybe try a repair? That doesn't sound right (and I've not experienced it). Or perhaps the control bindings are interfering with the mouse interaction? You should always see the button depress even if you are outside of flap limits. You can also try deleting the throttle bindings, and trying again.. just to narrow down the problem...

do they function in the air if you click them with your mouse?

Comms menu stops and starts working intermittently
randomTOTEN replied to ignition22's topic in View and Spotting Bugs
I don't believe that's the case. Up until a couple months ago you would always have some form of communication menu come up with the \ key, even if that was the wrong action. That's why there are numerous examples of this same thread across multiple modules recently. People are discovering it and thinking it's specific to one plane. -
I would love a Nevada Red Flag mission. Seriously, if we're going to be NATO on NATO why not just structure the missions like large scale military exercises?

Comms menu stops and starts working intermittently
randomTOTEN replied to ignition22's topic in View and Spotting Bugs
It's certainly a bug. The menu should still appear, even if the message never leaves the aircraft. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=276893&highlight=comm -
Nah, the simulator doesn't do fantastic job of providing easy access to these manuals (unless you're on Steam), and the most it references them is in the tutorial missions to tell you they exist. For the stand alone version you have to visit the DCS website (?) or navigate your computer's file structure to find them. No idea about the website but the most recent version of the manuals will be installed on your computer with the module. The developers (and community) have probably developed a bias of expecting older modules to provide this kind of contextual knowledge i.e. nobody has really structured the training/documentation yet for completely new players starting with the F/A-18C as their first purchase. Key word is "yet," it's still in lengthy development. And yeah you probably got to hunt around/experiment to fill the gaps yet to be filled.:joystick:
