ATC Baro Pressure setting not possible??
AvgWhiteGuy replied to AvgWhiteGuy's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
@tom_19d....I'm getting the concept but still a little confused about how to set my altimeter to 0. I'm at the apron Nalchik (Alt:1410) with my altimeter reading 2500ft and Kollsman window reading 29.92 after startup. ATC gives me a QFE 27.33. Doing the rule of thumb calc (1410/1000) + 27.33 =28.74 which dial into Kollsman. Now my Altimeter reads +/-1400....the alt at Nalchik. So if I take off....fly around and then attempt to land on instraments alone, I run into the ground because I'm 'chasing' 0 on my Altimeter. Where am I getting this wrong? @Yurgon....I did watch this last night after reading the whole thread and that bottle of wine. Somehow this did make a lot of sense and plan on watching again during the weekend. This is a classic :) I'm thinking of grasping this and produce a more modern video targeted for DCS guys like me. It just seemed strange to be on the deck at the Nalchik apron and not being able to dial the correct setting to show me at Alt:0 being given by ATC. I've noticed this a lot on NTTR as well. Time to hit the books again...and thanks to both of you for the explanations -
ATC Baro Pressure setting not possible??
AvgWhiteGuy replied to AvgWhiteGuy's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
@tom_19d...thank you for pointing me to that thread, which after 7 pages and a bottle of wine made exactly no sense whatsoever. However it did clear up the fact my plane is not broke and I have some additional reading and research to do. I now have another little project for the weekend ahead; re-reading the thread and grapsing new concepts. Thanks & Cheers -
Requesting T/O at various airfields the ATC gives me a pressure setting way below the minimum....like 27.XX. I can't dial it down that low and the altimeter is reading about 2,500 ft Is this a bug or am I just supposed remember that the airfield is artificially set at 2,500 when I land? This could be problematic at night in sh#tty weather. Please advise, I prefer this not be my final post

Can I specifiy a different takeoff runway somehow?
AvgWhiteGuy replied to DeepDrummer's topic in Mission Editor
@ feefifofum...thanks for that quick response totally understand. Can I ask a quick off topic question....is there an easy way to place a enemy unit(s) like SAMs in a large area of fields and have them randomly located so I don't knew where they will appear at load time? -
Can I specifiy a different takeoff runway somehow?
AvgWhiteGuy replied to DeepDrummer's topic in Mission Editor
I was just about to ask that same question...thanks to you both. That brings me to the other half of the question....using Mozdok as an example. Usually they assign RW27 for both departure and landing. If I change or establish the wind to 5ms from 262 degrees will both departure and landing be changed to RW08? Now if we could only have the ability to drop a TACAN on any airfield it would be great. Regarding Batumi...it's always fun threading through the mountains and landing in the back door in the F/A-18 Thanks -
@Yurgon....can you please confirm or correct me on this regarding that little squirt of laser...and TMS Case 1 I'm slewing for a target and immediately get a Point lock, I squirt 'em with laser, TMS UP LONG. The laser has done it's job and the target has been 'registered' for distance, angle, coordinates, etc... and I then roll in for a GBU kill. Case 2 I'm slewing for a target and immediately get a Point lock, I squirt 'em with laser, TMS RIGHT SHORT. The laser has done it's job and the target has been 'registered' for distance, angle, coordinates, etc... AND this has now been STORED in the collection of Markpoints from which I can later select then roll in for a GBU kill. Are these both true?

JDAMs are also really handy when you need to pound a SAM site and get the hell out of Dodge!! I've come to enjoy them more than GBU-12s...only wish there was a Triple ejector rack for them :(

Case 1 Trim after gear down, first, or after both gear and flaps?
AvgWhiteGuy replied to Oban's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Just download as suggested; no mission file (*.miz) to be found -
I'm trying to set up a scenario where I'm flying chase on another F/A-18 but I can't get it right. The 'lead' is set up at 20,000 ft and 400kts, about a mile ahead of me. I set my plane the same. Every time the 'lead' has his/her speedbrakes out and is only traveling at about 210kts. My goal is to learn a little about formation but he/she is not cooperating. How would you set this up? Appreciate the input, or other suggestions to accomplishing this.

I have the same problem as captflyby demonstrated in his SP video. I was on the Caucasus map and Vaziani channel kept reverting back to other channels no matter how many times I tried. When setting radio to any ATC on Caucasus map I've had no joy with the radios at all; no Startup, Taxi or Takeoff. I realize these guys take a lot of bathroom/smoke breaks but this is ridiculous.

@Jabbers, first I'm still a little unfamiliar with all the F/A-18 systems regarding navigation at this time but I did set up a flightplan with waypoints to the particular airfields.... but I did not try the courseline you mention. One of the exercises I'm working on is to set myself 'somewhere' in the dark WITHOUT visual navigational aid (waypoints) at first. Then use TACAN to figure out where I am and where I need to go (simulating a 'shit happens' moment). I like playing these scenarios out as it might become a reality tomorrow. BTW...really appreciate & enjoyed your Case 1 Recovery video...both the educational aspects as well as the humor...thanks

@feefifofum.....can't find the "Advanced waypoint actions -> perform command -> activate TACAN" unless I've got another setting for the A/C wrong. See jpg attached, appreciate help

I'm curious, if TACAN is line of sight, why would you need to be in A/A mode? I thought TACAN is TACAN at any altitude. ***** I just took ROWAN's idea and stuck an E-2D (hot) on Sukhumi blocked in by 4 vehicles but I have no idea how/where I would set up the TACAN channel. Suggestions for the challenged one?

Can anyone tell me whether I can put an AWACS on the ground at any airfield parked hot and still broadcasting a TACAN signal? Sound weird but let me explain. I want to practice navigation, approach and landing the F/A-18 on the Caucasus map but there are only 6 TACAN stations available at this time. I want to fly the terrain more and there are no TACAN in the northern areas on the map. At first I was interested in 'creating' TACAN stations at the airfields but it seems that is either not possible or extremely complex...at least for me. User 'ROWAN' suggested this idea "You could set an aircraft, like say the E-2D on the ramp with a hot start" but I have no idea how/where I set up the channel. I ultimately wanted to place multiple E2-D's at mission start if that is possible. Does this all make sense and is it possible? Note this is for SP missions only. The original thread is at: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=214034 Any info would be greatly appreciated,

Guys, SP is just fine...I had no plans of this 'mission' as an MP. As I said I just want to create additional TACAN beacons so I (and perhaps others) can fly around the the Caucasus and practice & perfect navigation, approach and landings, especially with the F/A-18. I enjoy that map because of the differences in terrains (coastal to rugged mountains) but get bored of the same 6 TACANS presently operating. I'll look into the Beacons.lua but anything you think of please advise.

Is there a way to 'create a TACAN station at one of the fields that does not already have it? On the Caucasus map there are only 6 fields with TACAN and I'm working on a Training Mission to basically 'deliver the mail' to many different airfields as a means of practicing approach & landings for both A-10 & F/A-18. I don't want to set them up as Waypoints. Thanks & Please advise,

Tip...: Afterburner "disable button" save fuel
AvgWhiteGuy replied to delevero's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
@Tomsk...can you clarify? Does the TM Warthog require a clumsy lift when the tab is installed? How much and where did you shave? Maybe a pic of your craftsmanship would be good. You got me really curious as I've never used the tab since I've always flown the A-10 Regards, -
Can someone tell me how to show the power/attitude overlay I see in this video..that would help me understand more of what's going on. Thanks
-
I will try again with these recommendations and attach .trk if it's still an issue. Doesn't anyone have of a TM Warthog profile they can share? Just the basics.

I was going through the Taxi Takeoff Tutorial following all instructions; half flaps then landing gears up and flaps up to auto. Then I need to put a lot of forward pressure on the stick otherwise it goes straight up. Following the straight in landing tutorial, I drop the tires at 240kts and then the flaps to Full Down, and almost immediately I have to fight the stick to keep the nose from dropping like a rock. If I don't raise the flaps to Half Down I'm going into he drink. I have yet been able to get in a semi-stable AOA yet. My current profile might just be so corrupted that I'm fighting myself. I think if I could load a fresh basic TM Warthog profile and see some settings for all HOTAS axis controls it might be the easiest way to sort this out. Please advise,
-
I'm in desperate need of a TM Warthog HOTAS profile; I can't even land with the one I have. On takeoff I need to keep forward pressure on the stick or it flies straight up and it won't fly level without forward pressure On landing approach the moment I apply FULL Down flaps it nosedives. I can't trim worth sh#t so can't get close to the correct AOA. I'm not asking for the keys to kingdom; just the basics would be appreciated. Please help, I'm losing my mind.

Anybody use an axis curve for braking? I've got Saitek Cessna Pro pedals and I'm finding it tough to get an even braking on them, especially on landings when the runway speed is under 80mph. They always seem to grab more to the left. Regarding TM Warthog stick....curious about that as well with both A-10C & F/A-18. Any suggestions, screenshot would be appreciated.

Has anyone mentioned how bindings or assignments will work with the Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS? Can you point me in that direction. If so, would the functionality be similar?
-
Don't forget to map the Axis Command - Zoom View to the HOTAS Throttle Friction Control [JOY_SLIDER1]; make finding bad guys a lot easier. Happy hunting!

Can/won't use 2.5 after update last week. I can't see sh&t in my cockpit at night, can't even find the Emergency Flood Lights switch. Love the 1.5 cockpit, all day and night.
