  1. Is there a way to 'create a TACAN station at one of the fields that does not already have it? On the Caucasus map there are only 6 fields with TACAN and I'm working on a Training Mission to basically 'deliver the mail' to many different airfields as a means of practicing approach & landings for both A-10 & F/A-18. I don't want to set them up as Waypoints. Thanks & Please advise,
  2. @Tomsk...can you clarify? Does the TM Warthog require a clumsy lift when the tab is installed? How much and where did you shave? Maybe a pic of your craftsmanship would be good. You got me really curious as I've never used the tab since I've always flown the A-10 Regards,
  3. Can someone tell me how to show the power/attitude overlay I see in this video..that would help me understand more of what's going on. Thanks
  4. I will try again with these recommendations and attach .trk if it's still an issue. Doesn't anyone have of a TM Warthog profile they can share? Just the basics.
  5. I was going through the Taxi Takeoff Tutorial following all instructions; half flaps then landing gears up and flaps up to auto. Then I need to put a lot of forward pressure on the stick otherwise it goes straight up. Following the straight in landing tutorial, I drop the tires at 240kts and then the flaps to Full Down, and almost immediately I have to fight the stick to keep the nose from dropping like a rock. If I don't raise the flaps to Half Down I'm going into he drink. I have yet been able to get in a semi-stable AOA yet. My current profile might just be so corrupted that I'm fighting myself. I think if I could load a fresh basic TM Warthog profile and see some settings for all HOTAS axis controls it might be the easiest way to sort this out. Please advise,
  6. I'm in desperate need of a TM Warthog HOTAS profile; I can't even land with the one I have. On takeoff I need to keep forward pressure on the stick or it flies straight up and it won't fly level without forward pressure On landing approach the moment I apply FULL Down flaps it nosedives. I can't trim worth sh#t so can't get close to the correct AOA. I'm not asking for the keys to kingdom; just the basics would be appreciated. Please help, I'm losing my mind.
  7. Anybody use an axis curve for braking? I've got Saitek Cessna Pro pedals and I'm finding it tough to get an even braking on them, especially on landings when the runway speed is under 80mph. They always seem to grab more to the left. Regarding TM Warthog stick....curious about that as well with both A-10C & F/A-18. Any suggestions, screenshot would be appreciated.
  8. Has anyone mentioned how bindings or assignments will work with the Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS? Can you point me in that direction. If so, would the functionality be similar?
  9. Don't forget to map the Axis Command - Zoom View to the HOTAS Throttle Friction Control [JOY_SLIDER1]; make finding bad guys a lot easier. Happy hunting!
  10. Can/won't use 2.5 after update last week. I can't see sh&t in my cockpit at night, can't even find the Emergency Flood Lights switch. Love the 1.5 cockpit, all day and night.
  11. Thanks guys, but I'm not talking about flying the basic freebies that come with DCS World, and I don't do Steam. I'm not looking for the basic experience of flying in DCS, been there...done that. I'm talking about briefly getting the feel of an aircraft and it's systems after over a thousand hours of flying DCS (mainly A-10C) with the the specific intention of buying a new aircraft. There is a massive difference between driving an A-10C at 10,000 ft and screaming across the sky in an F/A-18. Neither the P-51 or Su-25 can prepare you for it. Yiou can drive a VW or a Pinto and it won't prepare you for buying Corvette. ***** @zhukov....hehehe....gave up the LSD, been clean 2 days now...as I can recall :) On a more personal note I have some eye problems (age & a 'repaired' detached retina) so I can't perform as a fighter; can't find the Hindenburg on a summer day. But I love 'ground pounding' so flying attacked mission is what I'm looking for. And with all the hardware I have I don't want to waste it on a plane that can't use it (see signature). But honestly I think their are a bunch of folks out there that would love to take a spin in one of these for a week or so to make an informed decision before a purchase. As I mentioned above regarding AJS-37 Viggen vs M-2000C..nothing there helped with move forward but the FA/18 might trip my trigger. RE: Gifting....https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=206821 Cheers,
  12. Note to ADMIN: I posted this on the Payment & Activation forum as well, just looking for a large audience, please except my sincere respect, I'm not complaining about anything. If it's not appropriate please advise me. -------------------- I may have missed the inflight annoucements but is there any way to test fly a DCS aircraft before buying? If Yes, please point me in that direction for details. If NO please consider reading on. Has DCS ever considered a 'Fly before you Buy' program? Before you roll your eyes and move to the next thread let me elaborate, I'm not after 'free' stuff, I'm a businessman (software) and I understand marketing. More on that later but first a little background... A friend gave me DCS A-10C as a gift & joke about 4 years ago. That 'joke' has had me invest several thousand USD in peripherals (listed in signature) because I wanted to make the most out of it. A couple thousand more USD went to hardware upgrades to have a rig that could happily support it. Since then I've gone on to purchase additional DCS products including Black Shark 2, UH-1H, NTTR, Normandy, WWII Asset Pack & Combined Arms, and in the near future I look forward to buying more aircraft and the Persian Gulf Map. While the money spent is of little consequence, the time spent has been beneficial from the mental enjoyment, and there's some financial benefit because it keeps me off the streets and out of the bars. Thankfully DCS fuelcosts are a hell of a lot cheaper than beer (especially here in Shanghai) :) It was on a LSD binge buying spree that I acquired my helos cuz I've always been facinated by them. But I've never registered them in DCS, just don't have the time to learn them. I can't give them away, gift them, part them out or even donate them to an under priviledged day care center....any suggestions would be appreciated. Anyway, let's move on. RATIONALE for FBYB Program Buying an aircraft is like buying a car...kinda. I want to buy an aircraft that I will enjoy flying in an environment that I enjoy working in. I want to buy an aircraft that I am capable of operating within my personal limitations (physical, mental, etc) I want to buy an aircraft that I will accept the challenge to learn the systems and capabilities. I want to buy an aircraft that provides me the capabilities in co-op (multiplayer squadron) environment, if I choose. I want to buy an aircraft that is an asset to my brothers & sisters at arms during these times of conflict. I want to buy an aircraft that I'm proud of......and the chicks dig!!!! (cue the music):megalol: I don't want to buy an aircraft that regretfully sits in my virtual hanger gathering virtual dust for all the reasons above. See 'LSD binge buying spree' above I want to test drive that bad ass machine, if only for a few sorties!! So if I, and many others here in the DCS world of things could test drive an aircraft with reasonable limitations for a reasonable length of time, wouldn't that enhance the potential sales of the various aircraft models; especially the newer releases? Wouldn't it accellerate sales to exisiting DCS customers that are undecided and just need that spark in their pants? I had that experience a year ago between the AJS-37 Viggen vs M-2000C....unsure I climbed back into my Warthog. I love watching YT videos of the various aircraft but I still need that 'hands on' moment before I pull the trigger on spending (time & money). I'm sure there's a whole crew of DCS'ers that have experienced this. I expect some will say it's a Dev thing, too much time & effort....but from software dev experience, licensing restrictions are child's play compared to the amazing work DCS developers have already done, and the 2.5 release obviously has a module that checks login details and authorization. So if anyone has read this far and can see some potential, please continue on because here is a simple draft of some MY suggested limitations that might answer other concerns about who-how-when someone might be able to participate in a 'Fly before you Buy' (FBYB) program. --------- You must be a current DCS customer having at least 1 (maybe 2) purchased aircraft ...and 1 purchased Terrain (demonstrates previous investment of time and money). Depending on what stats might be available from DCS, a period of X months, flying hours, or ???? could further qualify someone. You may only 'lease' a specific FBYB aircraft one time, you can't lease a AJS-37 Viggen (example) everytime your spouse goes to the inlaws. There could also be some limitation on how often you can 'lease' a different FBYB aircraft. FBYB aircraft are not available to operate in the free DCS World environment. FBYB aircraft are licensed with 15 day (or XX) lease period; no extensions permitted. FBYB aircraft is licensed for Instant Action & Training only, FBYB is only there is get a feel for the cockpit system and flight characteristics; Takeoff, Land, Free Flight and some limited weapons employment. FBYB aircraft is not licensed for co-op muliplayer, network environments, or Steam; standalone only. FBYB technical support ('how do I do this') is not available thru DCS directly, some informal support can be available thru some Forum threads and requires registration. FBYB aircraft comes 'AS IS' and no upgrades are available. Full purchase at a later date requires downloading the latest Release Build. (no Alpha, Beta, Delta, etc are available). ---------------- If you got this far thru my ramblings and you do have an interest in the matter at hand I'm sure others would appreciate your comments on this, and I would certainly look forward to hearing from the folks at DCS as towards their thoughts on the subject, it's just a discussion; no promises or committments expected. Thank you for your patience & consideration, Regards, Major O'Connor (aka R@tter, aka AvgWhiteGuy) Shanghai, China
  13. I did almost exactly what DOOOM did last year and had no issues whatsoever, it's the MOBO that will give you grief.
  14. I'm similarly interested in the F/A-18C after driving the A-10C for several years; I've really enjoyed & appreciated the 'learning curve' of it's systems. My 2 main concerns with the F/A-18C are: Integration with my existing hardware; I have the TM Warthog HOTAS, MFCDs, Orbweaver keyboard, and TrackIR5 now and don't really want/need to be spending on replacement equipment. Will my current setup handle the tasks to be really engaged without relying on keyboard entry and mouse clicks more than I do with the Warthog? Secondly, due to eye issues (age & detached retina) I couldn't find the Hindenburg in the sky if my life (or squad) depended on it. Because of that I'm absolute sh#t in A2A combat and won't drive/buy a fighter generally. But if there are enough opportunities in the DCS world of things to be a 'ground pounder' then I'd be interested in signing that enlistment for the 'A' in F/A-18C. Comments welcome, please....
  15. Tried flying NTTR last night (after latest update - 2.5.1.16543) with a Quick Mission set for Winter - 5PM....at first I thought DCS had crashed leaving me with just a blank black screen. Then I looked around and found there was a tiny bit of light in the otherwise black sky. So dark I couldn't see ANYTHING in my cockpit...couldn't even find the floodlights switch. 5pm in Las Vegas in the winter is not nearly that dark...I lived there for years. I was very impressed with he richness of colors in the instant flight 'Takeoff'; the reds were just as I recall in Nevada-Arizona at sunset...stunning. But otherwise I'm finding the cockpit too dark and lacking constrast late in the day and at night. At daytime it's got a weird 'light metallic gray finish'. Love the detail but can't fly in evening/nights right now :(
  16. @BIGNEWY Found a NVidia driver needed updating and that solved some problem but both still fail to consistently load....they load one time and won't the next time. They both won't load at all from a Fast Mission, (existing )Mission or Mission Editor. FUBAR I'm thinking about a fresh install but want both versions as 2.5 cockpit (A-10C) is too dark. Can you point me on how to do this and save all my hardware/software settings for HOTAS and other stuff listed below. All 'Saved Games' folders are backed up TrackIR5 - TM HOTAS Stick & Throttle - TM Cougar MFCDs - Saitek Cessena Footpedals - Razer Orbweaver - VoiceAttack/Vaicom Appreciate the help...this shouldn't be that difficult:helpsmilie:
  17. I have the similar issue, DCS loads to Main Menu but fails when I try to start any mission, Fast Mission or Training. DCS 1.5 & 2.5 were both updated yesterday, tried BigNewy's Repair; no joy. Renamed all DCS folders in Saved Games; no joy:mad:
  18. I never plan to use them against armored targets, I was just trying to duplicate results I saw on the video. As I said at the start, I set the HOF and Spin at minimums so the blast radius would have been right on top of the targets....4 of them created a lot of smoke and dust, that's all. If it can't kill troops then it's useless. Mad Max2 is most probably correct in the modeling because it didn't seem to be this way in previous versions. Maybe I try again with the 103's and see if they are as useless as dropping a stale muffin.
  19. I watched a video recently on YouTube that showed CBU-87's employed against a column of T-50 tanks in a low level, low dispersion CCIP run where the HOF and spin were set to 500. Killed all but 1 target rippling off 6 CBUs. ....it's about 5 years old. Tried same thing on 6 T-50's and 3 AAA emplacements clustered in a 80 meter circle using 4 CBU-87s and it didn't do a thing. I can almost believe that the T-50s would survive but I can't imagine that the 3 AAA would ever survive with no overhead armor and all that live ammo around. The CBUs activated right above the the AAA (as illustrated by the smoke and dust) but not 1 target was destroyed. I followed that with a single CBU-97 and that made a mess of everything, no survivors. I then dropped an '87 low level-low dispersion on a group of insurgents with an AAA emplacement. Didn't do a thing. FYI, this is with latest update So why, when, where should I even employ the '87?
  20. This issue is not just related to a MS FFB2, it occurs with my TM HOTAS as well. I posted this on another thread last week as in: I've noticed for quite a while that the A-10 always 'leans' to the right (only), both rolling down the runway during takeoff as well as in regular flight. During takeoff I always need a little pressure on my left rudder pedal regardless of wind. That's an understandable issue, does not relate to loadout but I can easily trim to compensate once in flight. However, very recently since my last updates this month (Dec'17), I find that it's not just leaning' but almost rolling/dipping to the right directly after takeoff, and requires immediate and significant control stick correction. It 'feels' like the right wing stations are fully loaded while the left is empty. It is NOT a rudder control or a trim issue. I always reset trim when activating SAS in startup AND also it is part of my pre-takeoff routine along with flaps and speedbrake checks on the runway apron before requesting takoff. After making this immediate control stick correction at wheels up, the aircraft settles in and flies without any further, abnormal issues. This is not consistent, doesn't happen every flight or mission, is not dependent on wind direction or speed, it's just a sobering 'whoa sh?t' moment that I've not experienced in the past. I've just updated again earlier this week and it is still there, and as I said above it is not consistent. Happens about 1 out of 5 takeoffs....and disappears in flight.....in my case.

  22. Curious if there is any technical aspect of loading the LITENING Pod on the port or starboard side or if is just a matter of personal preference. Most pre-sets in DCS have it on Station#10 but I prefer it on #2 because my orbits are generally counter-clockwise. This in itself (counter-clockwise orbits) may be against a standard protocol, and if so I'd like to know about it. I fly DCS solo so I'm not concerned about confliction in the airspace but if, and when I'm ready to test my mettle on a server with a squadron I probably should get that right. So other than technical aspect, preference or protocols, is there a conscious relationship between the location of the LITENING pod (camera position) and the TGP and/or TAD (in cockpit)? [Edit] If it makes a difference, I'm flying with TMHOTAS, Saitek Flight Pedals, TM MFCDs, TrackIR, Razer Orbweaver Don't hesitate to elaborate; I just might learn something today:book:
  23. Relative to SAMS, RWR, ECM, is there any real difference between the ALQ-131 and ALQ-184 Pods when it come to DCS? Does it really matter which one to load and if so, When, Why, Where?
  24. Hollywood, enjoying the sh!t out of this, thanks again for all your efforts. Got a question regarding mixing VA/VAICOM with regular (boring) keyboard function methods for JTAC. I haven't gotten as involved in the JTAC VAICOM aspect as I have with normal commands and I seem to have hit a little snag I suspect is related to the HOTAS assignments. I cannot get any JTAC comms working when I use the normal keyboard although I'm on the correct channel. Using the '/' key mapped to my Orbweaver keypad I can still access all the regular COMMS command lists but, even though a JTAC commands may be listed it doesn't seem to work at all. Note I have Easy COMMS off. I'm thinking that it is related to the HOTAS using MIC [aft] as the VHF2 Transmit but the current assignment may not be actuating it. The bottom line is how do you set up the HOTAS for MIC[aft] to operate as VHF2 without VA/VAICOM while using MIC[forward] to operate as VHF1 with VA/VAICOM? BTW, you can definately count on me as a supporter and future 'customer' for the upcoming VAICOM 2.5 PRO. PM me details and I'll gladly be a 'donator'
  25. @ Pilotasso Been watchin this for an hour and haven't seen any progress!!!!!
