  1. Thanks for your feedback, appreciate the various opinions. Perhaps you might enlighten me on what may be a good decent setup for collective and cyclic controls for helos (brands) if I were to be in a spending mood. A couple hundred $$, ¥¥, €€, ₽₽ spent on controls that keep me out of the pub....priceless  Another question regarding multiplayer missions; are there missions where a helo is required to do a pickup/dropoff like SAR to move the mission forward while friendly force do overwatch?
  2. Out of curiosity, I fly the A10-C but was looking for a little change of pace. It might be fun to get even lower & slower. It might also give me a different perspective of CAS that helpes my A-10 role. My current SIM hardware/software is listed below; does this meet requirements to fly this aircraft or will I be Jonesin' for more controls? Is there sufficient documentation available in English? Love to read this stuff. When can I find some? Please advise, this might be a new career since my A-10 piloting needs a break. 3. Out of curiosity, I fly the A10-C but was looking for a little change of pace. It might be fun to get even lower & slower and not need to pilot. What would I need to do to serve as a gunner. Is this something (a role) I can offer to others in a multiplayer server environment? Is there demand for that service....seriously? You mean I can sit at home while manning someone's weapons systems....assuming they are competent enough to fly? What software do I need to be able to do this? Can you tell me where I can find out where/how/when to get into the virtual environment. I played America's Army online but never a Flight SIM. My current SIM hardware/software is listed below; does this meet requirements to 'play this role'? Please advise, this might be a new career since my A-10 piloting needs a break. I need to diversify my skill sets. 4. @Andy1966......re: vote for Viggen What do you mean when you wrote 'the only thing is the cockpit is not "clickable"' @Habu_69...re:Falcon BMS 4.33 I don't see that listed in the available airframe with DCS. If it doesn't run on DCS i"m not interested right now. I see too much potential in what can be done with the whole series with the airframes available and the capabilities of the Mission Editor. Don't want to change horses in the middle of the race and I really want to learn to build missions (since I think I suck as a pilot). There is so much untapped knowledge in DCS A-10C alone it could keep me busy for a while. But thanks for the suggestion...all are valid.
  5. It appears that my issue with CBUs has been resolved. f.Lux definitely was the major contributing culprit here. After a fresh PC restart, and Cleanup & Repair there were no longer any stuttering during the CBU explosions. I happily destroyed a 36 tank parking lot with 2 CBU-105's from 14,000ft. I even dove down to about 6,000 to see the action take place, a painfully beautiful thing. Thanks to you to for the help, especially BIGNEWY for the Cleanup & Repair. Case Closed!
  6. Guys, I really appreciate your input here and believe I have narrowed my acquisition down to 2 planes; the F-5 or the M-2000C. I do need the ability to strike ground targets, whether or not it is a primary role is less significant. Must pound the ground!!!! Since a very recent eye surgery has left me with less than optimal eyes for A2A, I would be a fat double cheeseburger for any hungry, half competent, tactical A2A fighter:chair: But I'm not hearing much on one of my primary interests/concerns; can you comment on this statement below. Most importantly, I'm looking for something that will utilize some/most/all of my current hardware as below: USB Hardware: TrackIR5 TM HOTAS Stick & Throttle (mapping keys) TM Cougar MFCD Saitek Cessena Footpedals Razer Orbweaver keypad (more mapping) DCS Software: DCS World DCS World 2 (NTTR) A friend gave me DCS A-10C as a sort of gag gift a couple years ago, I just drank the Kool-aid and I'm happy to report my $3,000 addiction :helpsmilie:
  7. I just posted the info below on the A-10C forum but having stubbled upon a recently closed thread in this forum I'd appreciate you F5 fans reading and commenting. --------------------- From: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=185470 I've been flying the A-10C for a while now and I'm interested in a new plane to get that jet jockey 'turn & burn' feeling. I still love the A-10C and will continue flying it; I think flying something new will give me a new perspective on the whole battle space. I was hoping some of you that may have expanded your inventory might make suggestions as to which A/C to try out now. I really only fly solo mission for now; my skill set isn't up to squadron level yet and I'm not sure I'm mentally ready for the top of the line 4th Gen fighters and dogfights (age & recent eye surgery). Also want something that has decent documentation and English cockpit layout. Most importantly, I'm looking for something that will utilize some/most/all of my current hardware as below: USB Hardware: TrackIR5 TM HOTAS Stick & Throttle (mapping keys) TM Cougar MFCD Saitek Cessena Footpedals Razer Orbweaver keypad (more mapping) DCS Software: DCS World DCS World 2 (NTTR) Budget: under $85 million, delivered with a bunch of bombs!!! Appreciate your suggestions and opinions, don't hesitate to comment on your experiences, or any other tidbits of information. Thanks in advance
  8. I've been troubleshooting and determined that an unrelated software program (f.Lux) was somewhat responsible for the crashes. f.Lux is a video program that changes the amount of blue emitted by a monitor based on natural sunlight. Blue light at night is not really good for the eyes and brain when it comes to sleeping patterns. You late night flyers know what I'm talking about. So...Note to self: check all apps running that interact with video resources. However, the problem is not totally resolved because there is still a shuttering or freezing of the video as the bomblets hit targets, it may be a 2-4 seconds. I'll take your suggestions and get the logs together after a clean system startup and Clean and Repair. Then fly a very short mission with only CBU attacks and collect those same logs again. I'll relate the results if there is still a problem. Thanks for your assistance
  9. Thanks Mike, that was what I was afraid of....not much with Eng cockpit. Are you familiar with hardware requirements for any of the helos? I could definitely do that if I don't need to spend more for cockpit controls. Can someone tell me (others) where we can find the info & details of the various A/C cockpit languages & documentation?

  11. Scenario: I drop any CBU (87, 97,103, 105) and egress to a safer area while I watch 'over my shoulder' to assess bomb damage. When the bomb-lets finally strike their targets my video shutters or freezes for a couple seconds then either resumes or crashes DCS. Last couple weeks it crashes more than resumes, about 75%. This was happening last year but one of the updates seemed to resolve this but now it's back again. I can't believe it's my set up or hardware listed below. Anybody experiencing this also and maybe got a clue what I should check. 12. Altitude & Airspeed info after missile strike After being hit by a missile or AAA fire and losing various systems, on some occasions I am left with no digital or analog information regarding my altitude or airspeed. On some occasions I can use the Radar Altimeter (AHCP) at low enough altitudes for approach but still have no idea of my present airspeed. Obviously the situation is further complicated at night when 'eyeballing' isn't reliable. Sometimes I can't tell if I'm flying or falling and don't want to give up much altitude to find out. If my airspeed is NOT available on my Airspeed Indicator (analog) or my HUD (digital), is there another cockpit location for this vital info?
  13. Specifically what kind of throttle do you have....are you talking about an external unit like a Thrustmaster HOTUS? If so, then BSS Sniper is spot on. The grey Throttle Friction Control slider is not used and easily assigned in DCS. Certainly makes locating/identifying targets much easier.
  14. I can't see this being minutes as a 30,000 ft drop takes about 42 seconds! Depending on cross sectional calcs for drag, a B-52 dropping from 50,000 ft won't take much more than a minute.
  15. Does anyone know if you can change/personalize the radio msg text colors in a LUA (perhaps)? I have some eye issues often affected by color contrast and would like to try changing the text color to find a good personalized match, maybe even an orange or red.
  16. Guys, I'm totally lost on this, can't keep my bird stable enough to get close. I wonder whether I missed a step along the way. Is it best to learn some formation flying before even trying to do this? If so, can anyone recommend a simple MIZ to learn and get some experience on formations to get me to the next level?
  17. I'm certainly no expert as well and, in fact only fly solo missions right now until I gain more advanced systems knowledge and comm experience. I think the first questions I would have for you (or anyone who fit your description and intents) are; What level of experience and knowledge of the systems do you have? I'll assume by your visable profile you can handle the aircraft (Startup, Taxi, Takeoff, basic VFR, Landing). What about the Radios, can you work between the different VHF AM and FM radios to contact and interact between the various resources available? What about the CDU, can you navigate and create waypoints, markpoints? Can you accept external JTAC intel and manually enter data relating to Bullseye and MGRS coordinates, and then fly to those points? If you can do those things perhaps consider several of these missions: JTAC Live Range (by Speedbrake, available @ DCS UserFiles - Downloads - Free) JTAC Night Range (by Speedbrake, available @ DCS UserFiles -Downloads - Free) A-10C JTAC Missions (by Speedbrake, available @ UserFiles - DCS Downloads - Free) I liked these because they're short, employ the weapons I enjoyed and introduced JTAC to me. I also appreciated them because it was a starting point to learn about editing the missions to add other variables such as 'Unknown Bad Guys', day/night, weather, etc. Operation Bactria (MP COOP 14), Afghanistan CAS (by Habu23, available @ DCS UserFiles - Downloads - Free) https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/201633/?sphrase_id=5654720 For the more experienced, this one is a blast because there are random taskings you get assigned to once you get to one of 4 IPs. After completing the task you return to the IP and are assigned another tasking. Although it is a multiplayer mission, you can do it on your own in the privacy of your own war room. No Air Refueling required but it is available if you want to take that step. Watch your weapon loadouts and fuel; your friends need help and you're the man (or woman) they depend on! Good luck, enjoy!
  18. @Wrench....thanks for that little tidbit of info. It's always frustrated when I forget to change it in the mission. This makes too much sense !!
  19. @MadDog-IC, thanks for the info, definitely seems like the recent upgrade change things. Can you direct me to the best way to roll back to previous version? I'm currently on 1.5.5
  20. @Gliptal...you seem to be a great resource; I'm about to try your [A-10C][sP] Warthog Proficiency mission set. Look forward to it. Regarding the 'Radio Msg Blacked Out' is there way to alter the text color via LUA? I have some eye issues often affected by color contrast and would like to try changing the text color to find a good personalized match. Age has not been easy :)
  21. Could any of you folks building missions enlighten me on how/where/why there seems to be a degraded effectiveness of the AI flights in prosecuting their assigned mission targets? The example of this is "Arty Hunt - Tigerrrr - 16-08-2011" which I have written about before. Six months ago I took the liberty of reassigning my flight (only) from Tbilisi-Lochini to Kobuleti to reduce the initial flight time. The F/A-18 SEAD flight out of Tbilisi arrived first and did its thing; killing off the serious Radar SAM threats 90%+ of the time (there are 4 of them), leaving me to deal with the IR Sams and other air defense. Since this year (2017) it seems as the SEAD ain't quite as effective and rarely complete their mission; they might hit 1 of the 4 targets and more than 50% of the time they get hit and don't successfully kill any of their assigned targets. I'm also perplexed on how a Tor SA-15 is suddenly reaching me from 9 miles out at a altitude of 23,000ft!!:helpsmilie: Is there something in the mission setup that can cause this sudden change of effectiveness in the AI flights?
  22. Callum, a good purchase or gift you have there; makes the SIM so much more enjoyable and realistic. As Boris mentioned, you will want to to use the joystick HAT for Trim. If you have a TrackIR no need to use the keyboard for your views. If you have a TrackIR here's a couple other things you may want to consider; a) I use the Joystick Paddle Switch (big pinky switch) for centering the TrackIR b) use the Throttle Friction Control on the right side next to the APU On/Off as a Zoom view in the Game Settings. I'm certainly no pro at this but I've basically eliminated all regular keyboard input by using the HOTAS combined with a Razer Orbweaver 20key keypad. Enjoy
  23. Things get stranger by the day... @metzger suggested checking the 'synchronize controls at startup'. Options > Misc > Synchronize Cockpit Controls with HOTAS at MIssion Start That was checked so I unchecked it. That seems to have eliminated the problem with no response from TM HOTAS throttle at engine startup but it also affected the initial recognition of the Boat Switch position when using the TGP.... a minor setback. More interesting in this whole learning process; that had some affect on the whole process of 'motoring'. Prior to this I was got no response from the HOTAS Throttle > ENG OPER > MOTOR switch. If it stirred the engine I never saw it. Now it spins it up a bit, I switch it back to NORMAL, let the engine spin down a little, then roll the throttle over the hump. It lights up and works beautifully. Not sure that I would add that to the Cold Start regimen but it does add another dimension. The following makes no sense; all was working good and had 3 great flights today BUT I had main gear tire blowouts on takeoff twice today; that never happened before to me. What will these guys think of next (gotta love it!!)
  24. This is getting more interesting..... First, can anyone agree that this issue I described at the beginning is relatively new? I explicitly recall working on startups 6 months ago and in Nov 2016 I was consistently requesting taxi clearance in less than 7 minutes. I never recall having this issue of rolling over Start hump and not getting immediate results from the engines. Secondly, if 'motoring the engines' is a logical procedure, can someone explain exactly how it is done & for how long? Do you get some feedback when you 'motor', is it immediate? Do you motor for xx seconds then roll the throttle over the hump? Do you motor for xx seconds then switch back to Normal, and then roll the throttle over the hump? I've tried various procedures today and can't find anything consistent. Please continue with this edumacation for the less gifted
