  1. @draconus....now there's fresh and helpful idea...thanks. I followed your implied suggestion and will see if I can edit this for a Hornet. Cheers Sir,
  2. Can anyone send me a link to the "Tomcat training mission for case I with green gates" that Tom Kazansky mentioned above, and is it editable to replace the Tomcat with a Hornet? Appreciate the help,
  3. Re-reading all of the above I see a re-occurring admission here, one that I'm certainly guilty, confused or seemingly incapable of grasping and performing; that is the final on-speed turn to get into the 'groove'. There is a million things happening here and the added variables of aircraft weight and moving deck just complicates the scenario further. IRL I would imagine this part is a little easier due to the real-world sensory information available; a wider vision perspective and sensations of 3D motion that can't be achieved in any 2D SIM. (although a little more butt tightening IRL with the recognition of failed outcome results; huge applause & credit to naval aviators). I would imagine that being 'placed' in the perfect position at the top of the groove, most of us (mortal armchair pilots) could successfully maintain a proper AOA and descend on-speed to success...given the practice time and efforts. Getting to that near perfect position seems to be the issue I have and see here. Starting with which wire I hit (or didn't) , and then going BACKWARDS in the scenario, I'm recognizing that things were FUBAR way before I was struggling midway down the glide-slope (left-right-high-low-fast-slow). With all that in mind I'm going to try something I should have done a lot earlier...but need some help from the community. First, I'm going to D/L and fly the stationary gates mission mentioned above so I really get the right on-speed turns required. Then, I would ask that someone contribute a TRK post of a seemingly perfect landing circuit from maybe 5 miles behind the carrier thru the whole process til hitting the deck (at wire 2-3). I want to sit on your shoulder 'backseat' in the cockpit and experience this process (hands off) so I can just watch from the comfort & safety, while observing ALL of it. I've watched countless videos but it doesn't replace the in-cockpit experience of sitting in the backseat and being able to look around and take it all in. Any takers that would contribute this history making educational TRK that would further the DCS fleet's goal of more competent naval aviators? If so, I would suggest (beg) the following parameters; 1) use the most prevalent terrain/region (Caucasus) that everyone would have. 2) SuperCarrier preferred with additional visual cues of the fleet 3) Case I, wind over the deck at normal steam 4) fly the F/A-18, stripped down to only a set of AIM-9's and 3-5,000lbs fuel, no externals 5) try late afternoon/early evening since that generally has the best visual contrast with the carrier's landing aid lighting systems. 6) check your direction and SUN to avoid added reflections or shadows 7) don't rush it....don't hesitate to extend the first and final turns by a small margin. don't add any further complications; we're already naked, afraid and alone...please If there is someone that would take up this challenge, I would be happy to supply a base mission miz to start with. Love to hear responses to this...keep in mind it's all about educating your fellow aviators.
  4. Hmmmmmmmm, interesting,,,never seen that before. Regarding the large number-TACAN bug-running too long, I set the TACAN when I left the Roosevelt and turned it off almost immediately. Turned it back on after the strike and, having cleared the strike area by 10+ miles on my way home. HSI & HUD displayed the proper nautical miles initially and it was after another 30-40 miles I noticed the ROS and huge number. After some quick mental calc I assumed a ROS was some strange new measurement (55ROS =1 NM). But it didn't change until I reset TACAN. So it sounds like the TACAN bug of not updating is separate from the ROS issue? In any case would this be a designer flaw, bug, and is it something I can fix in the mission (Operation_Deep_Strike)? Thanks for the quick reply....
  5. I was flying a mission and noticed my distance being displayed as 8344.37 'ROS'. This was on the HSI as distance to Carrier TACAN and HUD. Never seen that before, and what's worse is that it didn't change thru the flight until I turned off TACAN and turned it back on. After 'resetting' TACAN it still read ROS but the distance was correct in nautical miles. I have also noticed earlier this week that the TACAN distance was not changing on other F/A-18 flights but was corrected by resetting TACAN. Couldn't find this reference anywhere, I should have taken screen shot or save track. Anyone else notice this?
  6. Anybody got a clue as to why I have lost my COMS when I changed aircraft in an existing mission. Seems strange and nothing is consistent in this case. I swapped out an A-10C for an A-10 Tankkiller in a favorite old mission; Operation_Bactria (Habu23, 2012). Now I lose all COMS via spoken words (VA) to ATC, JTAC, but the radio menu excepts my commands BUT doesn't has no audio response. ATC does accept my request for Startup, Taxi, Takeoff and changes status thru the process but gives no audio or subtitle response. Same with JTAC. Ground Crew DOES respond verbally and in subtitle to request for Ground Power but NOT Rearm-Refuel.... To make this even weirder, I swapped out the A-10C for an F/A-18 and that does works mostly. Any clues here...driving me crazy...appreciate any response
  7. @markturner1960...as I said above I suck at this 'art'. But an answer to your question might be that the GREENGATES may be be unusable on a 'moving object' (ie. Carrier). Either method, GREENGATES or what is suggested at the start would be great IF it didn't reallocate resources in Dev.
  8. @Rudel_chw....thank you for your response, I was afraid of this situation although I don't know why they would be specific to a map. However, I found this thread from RedKite and wonder whether this may be the solution; I'm certainly not yet capable of building this but will give it a shot as a mission with a minimum amount of triggers to get my feet wet. Here is the followup YT video explaining it. Finally, I'm still not sure what 'templates' are as I don't see any method to save a mission as one. I'll read into your thread above and appreciate you help. Thanks again for your reply,
  9. I would vote YES to this on the basis that I'd do anything to improve my recovery skills (I suck after after more than a year).....however....I'd vote NO if it meant reallocating significant DCS Dev resources on current FIXES and projects. If this could be a quick little side project I'd say GO FOR IT!!! It seems to me that between the Long Range Laser Lineup System and 'flying the needles' there is enough mental projection for the glide slope and my most successful recoveries are practiced in early evening when the deck lighting puts all of this into better perspective. I think once you 'get it'...you got it and only practice will keep those skills sharp. Unfortunately i don't GOT IT yet. . In my opinion Carrier landings are the hardest thing a pilot can do, I admire Naval Aviators for this above all. Interested in hearing other opinions on this and finally, I think DCS and the community would benefit if there was a more developed Training mission on this subject. I've watched countless YT videos but putting it all together still has me boggled.
  10. Save it as a Template; I don't see that option. To be clear I want to be able to save the Carrier Group (5 ships) AND the full static deck complement in one Terrain map (Ex: Persian Gulf), and then hopefully be able to Copy/Paste it the a different map such as Syria. Thus easily building my Pacific, Indian Ocean, Med, Black Sea and Northern Atlantic fleets. My attempts so far have only resulted in copying the fleet ship; it's not getting the deck complement.
  11. Quick question on Mission building; after creating a SuperCarrier mission with a Carrier Grp and a full compliment of static a/c and deck equipment, is there a way to copy ALL of this to another mission? Kind of like a template so we don't have to start all over again. Thanks in advance,
  12. I thought there was a way to change your _download directory. I can remember last year changing it to F:\DCS\_downloads as my C:\ was full. But now I can't remember how/where I did that. On another note, is there a way to download/update JUST the new version and not all the Terrains again? Some Terrains I am not using at all right now (NTTC & Persian Gulf), until I get another SSD, but I'm dying to see this new Marianas. Appreciate advice on that.
  13. Has anyone seen any tutorials on the full processes of COMS with Carrier from announcing INBOUND to touchdown on the deck? I'm just getting back into the F/A-18 & SuperCarrier and was hoping to see this demonstrated, explained and clearly laid out. Yes, I read the manual but I think it would make a great tutorial YT video. Thanks
  14. @Lazerhawk....hahahahaha...that's been a wise call for the last year if you have the A-10C AND F/A-18. So many updates that affect the HOTUS I can't keep this straight. Realized the other night I had completely veg'ed out on how to use A-10 Countermeasures while flying into a shit storm of SAMs.
  15. Thanks for the info, I'll update today and try & fly it again. Cheers,
  16. @Flappie...the ZIP logs have been sent about 3-4 times so far I as followed the dialog message and it launched a CMD batch program to ZIP & Ship. Here's a recent one from 6/12 attached dcs.log-20210612-175447.zip @Flappie.....BTW, the mission here involves slots with both F/A-18 and A-10C TankKiller if that makes any difference.
  17. It does not seem limited to Bankler's Mission, I 'm getting a crash in other missions as well. It's a soft crash with a dialog box from DCS to write a log and send to them. Then dumps to Desktop but does not seem to crash anything else like USB devices, TrackIR, VoiceAttack, etc....just restart DCS and I'm back at the beginning. It is not consistent but I only see it when choosing a 2nd slot after an initial flight...never occurs on the 1st slot selection. Hope that helps.
  18. @scoobie....visited StreamDeck to check it out. Some of it is over my head but I figure for DCS it is just an expensive button controller that allows you to assign key bindings and maybe macros. I already have that capability with the Razer Orbweaver with it's over 100 keys assignment on 6-7 levels for about USD$80. That has significantly reduced the need for a mouse...my grand plan for all my ACs. It the UFC that is my biggest challenge on the A-10C, F/A-18 and F-16. A solid export of that would make my day. Thanks for you suggestion.....fly safe!
  19. @draconus....I went to the website to review and the dates of the updates and programs don't make me feel very comfortable with stability and moving forward. But thanks for you response..
  20. @Leg2ion.....I 'moved' the Normandy & Persian Gulf regions to another SSD for now, DCS Mgr obviously doesn't know about this and tells me I can download these according my previous purchases. I understand that completely and will move them AND all /DCS to a new SSD when I install. THanks
  21. The the logic behind a tracer round is to trace the bullet flight path and make necessary ballistic corrections for drift & drop over range to target. As much as tracers might be an awesome sight to see, especially at night, I can't see it's practical application in a real war zone with an A-10C GAU. a) ground impact is pretty visible; day or night regardless of the rounds fired. b) HUD visual 'cueing' tells me the range and impact area. b) it's not like you can 'swing the barrel' XX° degrees like an M249, .50-M2HB0 or even the GAU on a AC-130; you'd need to steer the whole plane. c) the visual effect would probably be a detriment to the pilot's vision, especially at night, leaving him/her with temporary blind spots...at 300kts heading downhill !!!! Even a 'subdued tracer'; one that delays burn for a hundred or more yards downrange, combined with gun barrel exhaust would create a visual impairment. The only benefit I can see is the tracers use to 'mark the target' for other friendlies, whether air or ground forces. Oh, and the obvious self-induced 'chubby' from watching the spectacle.
  22. Count me in this group for most the reasons others listed above PLUS....there's something about toting and dropping a shitload of whoop-ass that makes the slower, longer flights worth it. And now with even more flavors of whoop-ass, and the HMCS it's more fun. When I mixed the Hawg with the Hornet and then the Viper, as much as I enjoy the differences, I always came back to my GO TO bird. I also found over the last year or so that with all the updates, additions, changes with the Hornet and Viper I just couldn't keep up. So I may follow Fri13 above philosophy of '1 mod a month' and focus on the Hornet again.
  23. I recently got a small 8" Windows touchscreen PC for a business solution; it didn't work out as anticipated so it's mine to play with. I was thinking about using it to emulate the F/A-18 UFC to further reduce eliminate the mouse. Is that a possibility; if 'Yes' can someone direct me to how it can be done. Thanks in advance,
  24. Hmmmmm....update VoiceAttack-Viacom, that's a novel idea. I wondered why my ATC is speaking Northern European-Germanic-Neanderthal
