  1. Recommend Mirages come out of fighter lives and not interceptor lives (interceptors are MiG21 and F5 last I looked). The M2k is probably the most capable fighter, and it should start unfueled and require alignment. It should be limited in the pool of the fighters with a total of 3 or 4 lives, because 1 M2k easily equals 1 F-15, and is even better than 1 Su-27. And "MiG-28" skin F5s on red side, please! I would actually like to see many more MiG-21 and F-5 slots so that F-15s, Su-27s, and M2ks are less common - keep them flying from the far bases, but don't give too many slots to any base. Limit each base to 3 or 4 of each and that's it. Each blue base should have more F-5 slots than F-15/M2k slots. Each red base should have more MiG-21/F-5 slots than Su-27/M2k slots.
  2. Interesting idea with the road bases. You know, the F5 can land and take off on roads... *wink wink*
  3. I've already given in and decided that I will be building a new computer, just because of this aircraft. And then I will move on to building the sim pit, after I become hopelessly obsessed with flying it.
  4. This is fantastic - will immediately tell me which side (lower pop) to join!
  5. How often have you been on the 10 v 2 outnumbered team? I can get airborne in a Mirage faster than I can get airborne in an F-5. Personally, I would like to see fewer Mirage and F-15/Su-27 slots available at each base, and replace with more MiG-21/F-5 slots (and put the F-5 on both sides!). I understand limitations that most people who play don't have all the modules and many just have FC3, but there are still slots of Su-25T and A-10A that can be used. I'd just like to not have to fly against 8 M2Ks in my F-5 all the time, unless the players are going to make some effort to balance teams (which they have not been doing for the past...oh...six rounds or so). Airquake is fun, but only for so long.
  6. I think it may be server side - I'm loading up DCS 1.5 and DCS 2.0 and getting login errors with "no internet connection," right now when I'm browsing the forums. I bet it's so many people all flooding the update queue.
  7. Tried the above - no joy on this end.
  8. I don't think it's an aircraft issue. It's that at any given time, it's 12 vs 2. And people who join mid round jump on the winning side. I'm glad to see red finally win, but now they are winning just for the same reasons blue was - sheer numbers.
  9. Is the testing done under similar loadouts? I, personally, am an offender with the TERs and the LAU-88s running a**loads of boom boom, so I am never too surprised when the occasional tip stall or dutch roll occurs.
  10. A-6 would be a fantastic addition to the lineup.
  11. I might have to agree with you on that. Though the Saturn V is a close second.
  12. OP, I didn't see M2000C on your list, but if you decide to get into that aircraft at some point, lemoen is an ace in it - he kicks my butt regularly on Blue Flag.
  13. Saw the signups very late - probably not still room, but I plan on showing up in case either side needs an extra to fill out the teams. Preference F-5, but I can also fire up the MiG if we need an extra body on red side. So glad you all are running this event again - will happily spectate if teams are full.
  14. Huey - 60s Corvette. It can handle fairly well, not the fastest around, but you can manhandle it, drift it around, and have a lot of fun. Mi-8 - Cadillac. It's big, carries a lot of inertia, feels very smooth and comfy, good for longer trips, not the most nimble, but has good power and is quite luxurious. My current favorite helo of them all. Gazelle - Go Kart w/ a motorcycle engine. Very touchy on the controls, doesn't go crazy fast, but extremely nimble. You can get in a lot of trouble horsing around with it, and it's tiny. Ka-50 - Floating A-10C. Lots of systems to learn, more focus on fighting than flying with the autopilot controls. Carries a ton of boom boom, but not a lot of thrilling cyclic work. My answer: Get them all
  15. I am on my phone and had zoomed so I couldn't see usernames. I was getting a bit worried for a second. For us amateurs, would the F14 rate as requiring more or less frequent trimming than the Su27?
  16. We welcome all defectors with open arms! I have been wanting to play blue side for a while to get some F-5 action, but I have high hopes they'll throw a couple F-5 slots on red side soon. I just feel too guilty to not keep signing up for Red given the numbers when I play. I would like to see the overall total numbers (not just registered on the forum, because I never register there anymore). And for all other blues thinking about having more targets to shoot, come on over! :helpsmilie:
  17. That video above not only has some serious mistakes in basic physics (using rotating frame of reference? Centrifugal force makes no sense otherwise). It also says some things rather poorly. Brake while turning? OK, if you are trail braking on the track. Otherwise, heck no. If you want great motorcycling advice for safety, get Twist of the Wrist II. Book and/or DVD. Shows you everything you need to know. As for countersteering, all two wheel motorcycles work by countersteering. It's the same way a bicycle works. Nothing special or mysterious about it. The key difference between cornering and swerving is in where you put your weight (body position). In a swerve, you counterweight, like you do with a dirt bike. In cornering, you put your weight on the inside of the turn so as to reduce required lean angle. Two different techniques for two different purposes, both of which still are examples of countersteering.
  18. Good to know. I've got only one #50 spring on it for desktop. When I put on extension in the pit I'll go with 2 #50s like you do. I really love this gimbal. I have already started getting used to the new feel, and control is so much finer. AAR testing will be coming soon. After I got through my misreading of instructions, everything is working perfectly. Two thumbs up guys! This gimbal is excellent!
  19. So, I got my problems figured - I simply didn't realize that it's recognized as a completely new device. Remapped the A10C controls and TMS long vs short works as normal. Only weird thing now is that I went back and calibrated the stick with the config tool and now the stick light doesn't show on the box. Used to be a green light, now nothing. But the stick works just fine, so I'm not messing with it anymore. I put on the type 50 springs, with no extension. I'm so used to the stock WH gimbal that I needed some more centering, but I like the soft-detent. It's now just about perfect, but I'm wondering if it will center well enough once I put an extension on it.
  20. Whatever you do, don't do terminal homing (proportional navigation) immediately from launch, like they do in DCS. Sooooooo aggravating.
  21. Dang, I've never been in here! Sad to say, I don't have my bike anymore. I'm considering getting another in a year or two, but would mostly be a commuter - looking hard at a Tiger 800. I may get back to track days eventually, but I would look to go back on a 300 or 250 rather than the 600. I never got good enough to even come close to testing the limits of the bike. Mostly too scared to do so as well. One of my last good track days about 3 or 4 years ago.
  22. The first of these, running GCI and flying on the same side, isn't an issue. That's someone doing double duty, and if they have the wherewithall to do it, I don't see a problem there. Yes, I understand arguments of realism, etc. But GCI implementation is hardly realistic and often so haphazard to begin with. Fact is, those data are available to that side through a GCI. So anybody on that side is welcome to it as far as I'm concerned. The latter two are the big problem. There's no reason someone should have access to and be using an enemy's assets against them, because we're not playing Cyber-Combat Simulator.
  23. Let me rephrase. The stats displayed in-game (apostrophe key), which are the ones that most exploiters/cheaters would care about. They care about other people seeing their big numbers. So...limit that, and let everyone collect all the private data they want on a delay, I think there would be less of a problem. That being said, I think this issue is almost non-existent, but I'm usually more focused on trying not to crash my plane than worrying about who is trying to use an exploit. I simply don't have the SA to do that many things at once.
  24. I also noticed that trigger, which was joy button 1 is now joy button 8. As long as there are no conflicts (all buttons work), I don't care. Remapping party! I have the M2000 mapped and everything is great. Except that the gimbal is so smooth that I'm GLOCing into the ground now.
  25. Ok. I will try remapping keys anew in some of the birds. But the A10C will be...well, rough. Is there a problem with long vs short button presses (e.g., TMS forward long vs forward short) with the VKB software? I suspect there will be ways to set this up, but I was hoping for a simple profile load and the DCS mappings would have stayed as-is.
