The first of these, running GCI and flying on the same side, isn't an issue. That's someone doing double duty, and if they have the wherewithall to do it, I don't see a problem there. Yes, I understand arguments of realism, etc. But GCI implementation is hardly realistic and often so haphazard to begin with. Fact is, those data are available to that side through a GCI. So anybody on that side is welcome to it as far as I'm concerned. The latter two are the big problem. There's no reason someone should have access to and be using an enemy's assets against them, because we're not playing Cyber-Combat Simulator.

Let me rephrase. The stats displayed in-game (apostrophe key), which are the ones that most exploiters/cheaters would care about. They care about other people seeing their big numbers. So...limit that, and let everyone collect all the private data they want on a delay, I think there would be less of a problem. That being said, I think this issue is almost non-existent, but I'm usually more focused on trying not to crash my plane than worrying about who is trying to use an exploit. I simply don't have the SA to do that many things at once.

I also noticed that trigger, which was joy button 1 is now joy button 8. As long as there are no conflicts (all buttons work), I don't care. Remapping party! I have the M2000 mapped and everything is great. Except that the gimbal is so smooth that I'm GLOCing into the ground now.

Ok. I will try remapping keys anew in some of the birds. But the A10C will be...well, rough. Is there a problem with long vs short button presses (e.g., TMS forward long vs forward short) with the VKB software? I suspect there will be ways to set this up, but I was hoping for a simple profile load and the DCS mappings would have stayed as-is.
-
How did you program the buttons? I can't get any of my buttons to register input. Here's what I was wondering about regarding the installation. Did you just plug that one set of 5 wires into the WH stick PCB and that was it? Did you notice the actual wiring setup and colors were different than those in the instruction manual?

I can get it to load, and the axes work. Check in the settings of the config program if you have "set on load" - then you just load the profile and that's it. If nothing else at this time, at least get a plane in the air and enjoy the buttery smoothness of the gimbal. I love it already. Just gotta get this software issue straightened out, and then is cargo sling loads onto the frigate all night long! Them sailors will finally get those magazines and chewing tobacco they've been wanting.

No flashing red - Blue light on for Sys and Green light on for stick. Adapter install was fine, although maybe I messed something up. In the picture, there was the ground wire that was on the old warthog connector (black wire with a screw type connector into the stick) but I did not detach and reuse. Might this be the problem? All I did was disconnect the old Warthog connector and then I put the adapter in, and plugged its wiring into the stick PCB. I might be a dummy, but the WH adapter I have does not match the one in the instructions: http://vkbcontrollers.com/?product=tm-warthog-adapter-for-gunfighter My adapter looks exactly like the one on the site: https://vkbcontrollers.com/?product=vkb-sim-tm-warthog-adapter-for-gunfighter ETA: big difference with the VKB adapter is that there does not appear to be a ground wire that gets screwed into the stick frame, like there was with the stock WH connector. The instruction picture adapter has two sets of wires (vice one), and one of those sets contains a ground wire. The adapter on the product page (the one I received) just has that one group of wires that plugs into the WH stick PCB. Just got mine installed with the Warthog adapter. Having trouble with the configuration tool. I downloaded the Warthog profile, I follow these instructions: 1. Load the config file 2. Press "set" - here I get an error "no new data" ETA: I had option (set after load) checked, so all I should need to do is step 1. Still no joy on the buttons. When I load up DCS, everything looks fine. The axes work, but the buttons on the Warthog do not. Is there a separate config file for the buttons? Back in the VKB Config Tool, if I click on "Button Wizard" I get the following error: "Access violation at address 00426B7B in module 'VKBDevCfg-C.exe'. Write of address 0000038A."

For all the concern, I find that fishy stuff happening is not necessarily common, and I think most of the players are there for a challenge. The exploiters will be hard to rid ourselves of, and removing GCI entirely from Blue Flag would really hamper some of the fun in the F-5 and MiG-21. Banning two different accounts with the same IP will be a problem for those of us who eventually go for F-14 multicrew from our own 2-person pit (yes, that's going to be me eventually). Limiting GCI to "credentialed" users will just ensure that GCI is rarely ever available, and it also takes some fundamental capabilities away from the AA defense control (e.g. turning Kubs on). I hate that there are cheaters in this game, because it does take away from the experience of others, and really, what's the point of flying a sim only to cheat? It just doesn't make sense. But maybe we can attack the goals of the cheaters as to limit their enticement. Mostly, these guys are out for racking up kill #s and stats (I know not all are, but many like to see those numbers). So, if you limit stat tracking or eliminate it entirely, maybe they stop playing and we can all have our sim free of them. At the end of the day, jackasses gonna jackass, and we can only do so much. Some of the proposed solutions would probably cause more problems than they solve.

Got my shirt yesterday. Love it!

Hmmm, this is a good question. It would be nice to have a way to order (request?) course and speed changes via the radio menu. As current DCS ships don't have anything of the sort, I imagine this would require some significant work on HeatBlur's end to enable such a capability. Right now, the only way to move ground units around is through CA, and only limited assets can be driven. Maybe ED is working on something like this for their carrier and the FA-18? I'm hoping we aren't stuck with the mission editor settings being unchangeable, but it's still manageable with waypoints. Just need the carrier to drive a lot faster when going downwind, I guess.

Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 9
Dino Might replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
What if we added another SA-3 site to each airbase? Right now, the single SA-3 is easy prey to even an A-10C or a psychotic F-5 pilot (ask me how I know). -
Increased drag. Not sure if pilot will pass out/die from exposure if you go rocket man up to 50000 ft without a canopy.
-
Also, any news on the Viggen pre-order lottery for those who are being given a custom skin with their name on it? Wondering what skin will be used as the base to add the names to. Been hoping that I'll snag one of these to have it official in-game, but I figure I'll probably make my own custom skin for myself if I don't.

So, who's going to ask if Heatblur will 3-D print minis for sale? I'm guessing the licensing may not allow it, but would be very cool.

Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 9
Dino Might replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
I used to lament the idea of them even adding SA-3s, because I would be more hard pressed to wipe out an entire air base with just my A-10C. Now, after having done that enough, I've learned that I much more enjoy a need for a coordinated strike package of multiple players to get a job done. The teamwork aspect of Blue Flag is really the best feature, and putting in some tougher defenses would require more of what makes this mission the best one in town. Right now, there is little reason to take an SU-25T over an A-10C. But give us some longer range radar SAMs, and SU-25T will play an integral role. Not a problem for the teams because both sides get it, and it's the free module that everyone has. I also think it would be a great benefit so 5 F-15s can't overfly every red airbase without any fear of effective air defense systems while vulching every lone red player taking off, when he already has the odds stacked so terribly against him. -
Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 9

Welcome to Red side  It's much more fun when when you have targets to shoot. But I still saw a wave of people joining last night when it was literally 9 v 1, and more who joined kept typing "blue." Kind of comical. Fortunately, some comrades got online and we turned the tide and held blue from capturing Anapa despite 3 to 1 odds. While it's true that most of Blue uses SRS, the Reds don't need it, because we normally don't have enough people to have more than one TS channel in use anyways. Join the good fight to help balance teams and join Red. -
I already have plans for a new machine once this beast comes out. I'm guessing that my VKB gimbal, Slaw pedals, and the new rig will all come around the time the F-14 is actually released. I'm hoping for Christmas in July :)

Been working on AAR, and there are a few things that help with the Mirage. Enable G-limiter. This will dampen your control inputs and make it easier to make those small adjustments when approaching and staying connected with the basket. Fly formation with the tanker and set trim appropriately if asymmetrically loaded before you engage the basket. Prepare for a Fox-2 launch when frustration level reaches max. Enable some of the user scripts here that auto-respawn the tanker to retry AAR.

Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 9
Dino Might replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
A few issues seen on numerous occasions this week: 1. Air defenses not working. Not sure what makes this happen, but I've seen A-10s, M2ks, and F-15s flying over Maykop anywhere from 200-500 kts, and Strelas, SA-3, Kubs that were deployed, and Shilkas doing absolutely nothing. Not even tracking. Blues flying over base at about 2-3k ft max. I don't know what causes these issues in server. 2. Blue - 30 vs Red - 4. It's fun to have more targets to shoot at, but when you have two Su-27s vs 6 F-15s and the Flankers don't get taclink (is this server enforced or just not supported for multiplayer?)- it's kind of bogus. Russian missiles are already so inferior (even the R-73 is junk now, with a single flare defeating the R-73 a majority of the time). So, anyone who wants to fly CAP must fly the Mirage or just go out and get shot down. Remember, M2k and F-15 both outrun the Su-27 even at half weapons and fuel in full burner. To be clear, this is a player issue, not a mission designer issue. I think taclink, if activable, could alleviate a bit of the issue by giving the Reds more team oriented features, but the stark reality here is that a bunch of players just like to join in a one-sided fight, and I've no idea why. 3. Red GCI is blind even with EWR, Osas, Kubs, and other radars. Might be related to the busted air defenses, but Red GCI can rarely ever see enemies, even when they are right over the base. Usually only see the enemies STT'd by friendly aircraft radar. I hope these issues can be resolved. It's getting kind of dull playing "set up air defenses with the Mi-8 and then watch them not work," followed by "fly Su-27 only to fire 6 missiles within parameters, all miss, and then get shot down by two F-15s from 40k ft who can't be notched." -
And real lovers watch both...weekly...

Red Flag Rumble - Mig21 vs F5 - Round 2
Dino Might replied to 104th_Maverick's topic in Tournaments & Events
Mav, I'm probably not going to be able to stay the entire time, gotta leave here around 5PM EDT, so I'd like to give my F5 spot to the first in line on reserves. I think there should be some extras in channel as well if #s are low. MigDriver was saying he could take an F-5 spot if needed. ETA: Got in anyways and it kicked off in time! Thanks for running a tight ship, Mav. Very glad I got to participate! -

Can we get F-5 on Red Side? Please? With sprinkles on top? I think throwing F-5 with the black aggressor camo on Red would entice more players to join the heavily underpopulated side and actually give the blues someone to shoot at. Okay, probably won't make a difference, but I will fly it! Red side needs more F-5! -
Become? Announcement of this is what got me into DCS many moons ago. It's going to be the ONLY module I fly for quite a while once it comes out.

Of course, the submariners just call all of them, "targets."
