Mission 13: see spoiler
-
BTW, in the pdf briefings, is that missing border on the right side of the Mission card (frequency box, all Mission cards) intentional?
-
Thanks, but I should have saved the replay...you wouldn't call me pro anymore ;-) It took me around 45 minutes (with time compression), so you get an idea. The reason why I think it was too difficult was because it was more than one difficult task: But don't get me wrong, overall I still think the campaign is great and well done. And I know that it's not easy to find the "correct" difficulty because the skills are so different.

Finally managed the mission (almost lost the chopper when trying to land on the base again...). But IMO this mission was a bit too difficult. It might be "easy" for all the pro's out there, but there are also less skilled pilots around.

Thank you :-)

No, it happened when I was raising the collective to take off. Anyway, I adjusted the axis with 25% curvature and set deadzone to 2. Seems not that bad. I even managed to land - even though only at "ramdom" location and not where I wanted it. I'm not yet sure about autohover though. If it's enabled, shouldn't it automatically go to autohover once I'm slow enough? Or do I have to press a button? Oh well, I'll google ;-)

Yeah, I read something about the saturation but when I set it down to 50%, I noticed that the Gazelle simply tilts to the right at startup, so I set it back to 100% again. Not sure if my Thrustmaster T. Flight Hotas X simply is not accurate enough? Anyway, I'll deal with it later. Learning the Huey also wasn't that easy (at least when it comes down to landing), but somehow I managed over time *g*

Bought it today...oh well, this will take quite a while to master it :-o Starting seems ok, but once the chopper starts to roll left/right during flight, it becomes very hard to become it steady again. Time to study some tutorials ;-) Seems like it really can be fun, but the difference to the Huey is more extreme than I expected it.

Thank you :-)

Yes, this is a helpful info. Thank you.

I only got the message once and not anymore....so obviously I did't do that well. I'm using trimming, but I anyway have problems to stay above the target. In the briefing, the wind is mentioned 160°. So it's best to have a heading of 340°? I tried different approaches, but hovering at bad weather is probably a bit above my current skills.

I'm actually stuck in mission 12 having problems to trigger an event. See spoiler for details if you already played mission 12.

In Mission 12, at the beginning/startup. The speech of the Major is "cut off" in the middle of the sentence because the next speech is starting. See screenshot for the text passage. The 2nd paragraph of Maj. Karbelas starts with "The Bl..." and then the next speech of Lt. Zorbas is starting.

Ok, I see the point. I did not check the damage triggers in the mission editor. I'd simply say if it's a "total failure" like in my case, where it's impossible to continue, then a "mission failed" wouldn't be wrong. But I can live with it if it won't get triggered. It's just a "detail".

Well, once I've got the Gazelle and once I've played it enough, I may start a new thread in the Mi-8 forum how it is compared to the Huey and the Gazelle ;-)
-
Haha, good point. Well, for some "long" and boring flights, I can still use time compression.... Thanks for all the additional feedback. I was watching some more videos and reading some more reviews. Overall, it seems it's really a module worth getting. Startup procedure seems not impossible from what I've seen ;-) Learning the weapon system will probably be the harder task.
-
Ah, thank you. This might be helpful. However, I think I'll first try the Gazelle. It just seems to attract me more.
-
Oh yes, I forgot to ask...what about multicrew? ;-) Just kidding. I'm only playing singleplayer, so it's not of relevance to me. Doesn't it become "too easy" and a bit boring with all those stability controls? That's something I did not really like in the Ka-50. Thanks for all your feedback. I think I might give it a try when they have a sale or a nice bundle. Actually I still have to complete the Argo campaign with the Huey. But after that, I might be ready for something new. Interesting about the Mi-8. I think I simply have problems with those russian cockpits/labels. It simply looks more difficult to learn this way.

Actually, I'm still undecided whether to get the Gazelle or not. I have some DCS modules (Huey, Albatros, KA-50/Black Shart2, Nevada map, FC3) but the only module I really play is the Huey. It's just "the right one" to me. I tried the KA-50 a few times, but I simply prefer the simplicity of the Huey. Being able to do a cold start within a short period of time is just nice. Everything is so straight forward and "easy" compared to other modules. I'm sure the KA-50 might be fun as well, but it's difficult to memorize everything when you don't invest many, many hours. And since flying the Huey "feels" better to me, I can't see a reason to invest more time into the KA-50. I was watching some videos of the Gazelle but I still think it's difficult to judge about it. So people who own Huey, Gazelle and KA-50, would you say the Gazelle is as complex as the KA-50 or somewhere in the middle between Huey and KA-50? And what about missions/campaign? How are they compared to the Huey ones in terms of amount, quality and difficulty? I also need to say that I'm not a "die hard" pilot. I'd rate myself more a gamer, but I'm capable to complete the Huey campaigns (UN, Bay of Hogs, Argo).

Just thought what's wrong with mission 10 (because this seems a very interesting one...just started it yesterday but didn't have the time to finish. So I'll have to redo it today). I agree, mission 8 is very, very tough and it took me several attempts (around 8 to 9). But it's not that difficult to find the ships with FM. And you can also see lights in the distance. Once you get close, you can really clearly see the ships. You simply have to check your instruments all the time to make sure you're not crashing ;-) To me, it was probably the maximum difficulty, close to the border of frustration. But in the end, I enjoyed having done the mission. Mission 9 will be easier again. But overall, I'm glad that the campaign is challenging every now and then. It forces us to fly under different circumstances.

Thanks for this great information. I wasn't aware of this.

It definitively looks awesome. But I'm slightly wondering why they have chosen the older Forrestral and not the Nimitz? Either way, great work so far and I'm looking forward to it.
