Thanks, I think an "estimated" value is ok especially because I doubt I'll do exactly 90 knots for the whole distance. It's more to avoid things like "ok, I now flew 20 minutes....so shouldn't I already have my 10 nm or not?". So now I at least have a reference time.
-
They really should add some more triggers to be able to monitor this. I mean, it's the same when you damage or lose the cargo. DCS itself gives you a message, but the beloved Major and Cpt don't comment on it. I noticed several time, that I've got "ready to go" form the major, but the cargo wasn't hooked. I simply check with the external camera if I really have the cargo hooked.

Thanks both for the information about 2min = 3 NM at 90 knotes. This is very helpful as a reference. And the formula is exactly what I was looking for.

"ARGO" DCS UH-1H SP Campaign - Upcoming DLC
rge75 replied to gregzagk's topic in UH-1H Argo Campaign
Haha, good point. I hope you got it sorted out? I just finished mission 8 and that was probably the most demanding mission I ever did with the Huey so far. I think it took me maybe 7 or 8 attempts (I didn't count). But the feeling after having it achieved is pretty cool :-) My experience is in the spoiler (don't read if you haven't finished mission 8 yet). -
Ah thanks, I didn't think of that. Yeah, I noticed that in several missions that it takes a while until the event gets triggered once you're on the ground. Sometimes it needs a bit of patience.
-
Thanks. I can't re-check since I'm at mission 8. But it might be helpful if I go through the campaign for a 2nd time. As for the landing:
-
It's the same hospital like in mission 2. If you can't remember the location and how it looked like, then you might have a look at the briefing (pdf located in DCS World\Mods\campaigns\UH-1H Argo\Doc) of mission 2. It shows the location there. Edit: In your video, when you go around 43:30, you can see it in the distance. The small building a few meters away from the big building.

"ARGO" DCS UH-1H SP Campaign - Upcoming DLC

Do you also have a hint on how to start with the cargo in mission 8? My first couple of attempts didn't really work (rope torn, oil getting to high) and it starts to get slightly frustrating because I always have to fly to the AB first for the next attempt. -
Pretty strange. I'm right now at M8, but I had no problem with the cargo. It showed up in the F6 menu and it also was visible behind the C-17. I first thought it might be a missing mod but I just checked my installation and I don't have upuaut or anything else activated atm (so it's a clean Vanilla installation except the Huey sound and pit mods).
-
In Mission 8, there's a small inconsistency in the mission briefing. In the text, it says "fly above 500 feet" but the picture with the waypoints says 300 ft for every waypoint.
-
The only difficulty I noticed so far is when you have to attack soldiers. It's almost impossible to define which one is friend or foe. The ones shooting at you are obviously the enemies, but overall, it's really hard to see the difference. Nevertheless, your campaign really changed the way I play DCS. You look better at the map, look for town, rivers and all that to get the idea where you are and where you have to go to. And the more missions you fly around this area, the easier it becomes because you start to know the whole area.
-
Well, I managed to finish the mission even though I didn't really find the target IMO. But it looks like the planes dealt with it once I was slightly NW out of the town. The question about how you deal with distances remain though.
-
In mission 6 (sorry, title is wrong, it's mission 6 not 5), it's said to fly NW for about 3 miles. How do you know how much is 3 NM and if you didn't overshot the target? Do you calculate it (something like flying at x knotes for 1 minute = xy NM)? I also wasn't able to see a scale on the F10 map, so I have no idea how much 3 NM really are on the map (well...5.6km, but that's not the point). And in the air, it's also quite difficult to estimate how much 5.6km are. Ok, maybe I simply didn't correctly understand a message. But I flew to the mentioned city - or lets say I at least think I was at this city. Anyway, you see my problem - I simply started to get lost and had no idea if I still have to fly NW or back again. Well, when the fuel went out, I had to abandon the mission. So I really searched quite a while. Maybe Greg could add a few triggers when you really overshot the target by miles (I think we're too far east)? Just as a side note for the mission itself (warning, spoiler ahead)
-
Looks like the labels are now on by default since the update. First thing I did was pressing LShift-F10 to disable them again. I simply got used to not use them now :-) It just adds quite a lot to realism if you have to really navigate and rely on the instruments/radio.

"ARGO" DCS UH-1H SP Campaign - Upcoming DLC
rge75 replied to gregzagk's topic in UH-1H Argo Campaign
You guys are too far ahead (mission 5 here). But maybe somebody of you can give me a hint on this mission since you already finished it. (see spoiler) Edit: Found out myself (simply needs to start/land smoother....I had to work on my patience *g*) -
More missions and campaigns (the new Argo campaign was very welcome).
-
It especially helped me to deal with all those light switches within the cockpit. So I finally know where to turn on which light and what it looks like (never dealt with that before). And it also tought me about the radios. FM and ADF aren't foreign words anymore. Flying by instrument was only a short part of the mission, but it for sure teaches you to check out the different instruments. But once you trim the chopper, it anyway should fly more or less steady (and for the lazy guys, there's still the auto pilot feature once you have the correct heading). Once you're over the land, you can fly by visual as long as you don't go too high. So to me, the whole campaign so far improved my knowledge of the Huey. I was only surprised with the end of the mission (spoiler ahead).
-
Oh, that's strange. The ADF should have worked fine (had no problem with it during my 5 attempts). I agree, without the ADF, it would be no fun and very difficult.
-
Well, IMO it isn't that tough like it might seem in the beginning. I'm also no real aviator and maybe it's unrealistic (but so is any Hollywood movie...and they're anyway entertaining) ;-) Just use the ADF to find the airport. It was interesting to once fly only by using the instruments. That's something I'd never have done otherwise. After you found the airport, you can follow the river. You can hardly miss it - and there are enough visuals when you have your lights on. I had no problems to follow the river or the road afterwards. Also the stormy weather wasn't that hard within the canyon. I'm really no pro, but I was able to do this mission. Overall I think it was interesting to have something else for once. In general I also prefer to have better sight though.

"ARGO" DCS UH-1H SP Campaign - Upcoming DLC

Thanks, I'm just wondering if I was hit and if a system failed? The red light was on ;-) I'll give it another try tomorrow. Edit: Stupid me put the peter pilot on "returning fire". That's why the pilot didn't have control over the gun. -

Unfortunately I can't answer your question because I'm actually having problems in this mission myself slightly before that point. Maybe I'm just not used enough to the weapon system? See spoiler -
Yes, I saw this message. I just noticed that I missunderstood it.
-
Yes, I was anyway able to finish mission 3. A question about mission 4 (bug or simply no message by design?) - see spoiler for details
-
I think I had a similiar problem but at the end of the mission when I wanted to land on the ship. Suddenly I felt like a hit and on the shadow on the water, I saw the other chopper. My Huey wasn't damanged though and I was able to land. But when I read the mission debriefing with the events, I noticed that it said that the other chopper was wrecked and the pilot was dead. I'm not sure if this was sort of a patrol or random air traffic. It most probably was just "bad luck" but I report it "just in case".
