  1. So out of interest when a helicopter like the Gazelle gets hit IRL the crew/pilot is pretty much done for right or has to hope he lands on something soft? Realistically you are not going to get to a door, and it would all happen so fast anyway. What are the procedures in a dire emergency? Fetal position and prey?
  2. That was my setting before I settled on the latest and it's very good but I just find the jaggies distracting and flying a Gazelle mostly don't really need to worry about cockpit clarity. I kinda care more about how things look in the distance than up close I guess, and performance seems about the same. I have every helicopter module now! The Gazelle was my last, and each one I thought better than the last (new toy syndrome I guess) but I think the Gazelle really is special in VR due to its thrilling agility. You can fly it almost like a dive bombing roller-coaster. Second favorite would be the Mi-8, the polar opposite I guess you could say, but really all of them are fantastic. Of course if I was actually fighting IRL myself I would want to be in the KA-50! Kind of a contradiction cause although I want realism I also like to fly arcade-y missions in which the object is simply to see how much s*it I can blow up before being blown up myself. I'm not really one for ultra realistic missions were most of the time is spent flying to an action point. That said on another sim I'm just getting into navigation now, so I think that's all going to change!
  3. Haha snap brother my own Virpil T-50 should be coming in a week or two! I personally am finding I like PD- at 0 and MSSA on 4x! Btw highly recommend the Gazelle in VR it's by far my favorite module, just cant tear myself away from it! Do you like flying helicopters per chance?
  4. Yeah doesen't bother me that much or at least it's not like I can't wait because early morning or late evening happen to be my favorite times to fly anyway (love night time too) but it is nasty to look at at times. In some situations on my one side the trees/forests look blooming fantastic and on the other they look utterly horrific I cant bear to look at them lol! Mission editor is my best friend at the moment. Out in the desert too the trees or little green shrubs also look very bad. However if I fly at the right time, I have never seen a better looking flightsim and it look's very realistic and convincing. Luckily though I don't fly complex modules such as the Warthog in which darkness would seriously hinder things, a few VA commands and I am hot and ready for combat! Must say however cant really fault the performance (I'm in VR) being able to actually use deferred shading now. MSSA x4 with no pixel density is my final preference very smooth on my rig.
  5. More likely because we have updated to 2.5 in the meantime no? Old settings no longer apply to be honest mate!
  6. Correct me if I am wrong but this is the pro (focus) right? https://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.168.4b6a4393aLydbk&id=562559652654&ns=1&abbucket=10 It's on the market in china at the moment for about 510.523 GBP! Humm according to the website I could pay only 45 pounds over a 12 month period instead of all at once! Interesting!
  7. I have the Vive and the re-projection is very smooth with the only complaint being slight ghosting when things get too hectic and turning ones head to the side. But this is not a problem exclusive to any one headset. I have had this headset for a few years now and was here at the beginning when it truly was terrible (in DCS). The first post you made you were claiming the Vive wont even work with DCS, but then claim to have both headsets and the Vive is terrible in comparison! You seem like a bit of a fanboy to be honest! If I didn't have VR already I would definitely go with the Vive pro (if I could afford it). It's a no brainier really, and certainly seems to be the best headset around presently as it has better resolution and a whole ton of other upgrades and features. That depends how much it costs on release though, as I think they really have to start being more competitive with their pricing. If you have a rift, or Vive already however I don't think it's worth it, but that doesn't mean we need blind ourselves to reality simply because we wish to convince ourselves that nothing could possibly ever be better than what we have ourselves!...
  8. Should point out I use a combination of head tracking and VA, and the mouse only in dire emergencies! Even have mouse buttons set to a VA command.
  9. Yeah to be honest wasn't talking about the A10C. Would have to agree the A10C is the kinda module that badly needs hand controllers perfect or not!
  10. It depends how much realism a person needs I guess. VA and mapping clickable functions to a HOTAS might break immersion for some, and I can understand that as you're not going through the correct motions that the real pilots go through so you're not really learning the module maybe. But then I had to learn it all before getting my VA set up anyway as there is no way around learning the modules and learning what each of the buttons do. So I don't really feel VA or mapping buttons to the HOTAS detracts from going through the correct motions or understanding an AC. I justify it to myself by saying that it's my AC and I just so happen to have VA installed or a different system to what a real Gazelle pilot would have! I can understand people wanting historical accuracy but after having flown the 'right' way for many hours eventually I want as much convenience as possible to be able to respond as quickly as possible. Because all though pressing the right buttons, in the right places, is indeed realistic and immersive, being able to fight and respond in a realistically rapid manner is also in many ways more important than what buttons the systems are mapped to. Voice attack might not really be realistic but it still feels bad ass and somehow immersive in it's own way. I just rationalize it by it being me giving a co-pilot orders which feels pretty realistic to me! At the end of the day though its personal preference, and often the best or only way to make things more immersive and realistic is the imagination. The point (I think) I am trying to make is that at present using a mouse or controller(s) may add immersion in one way but detracts in another by hindering response times in combat. For many people important buttons are mapped to their HOTAS at the expense of realism simply because it will improve their combat efficiency and reduce fumbling around! I really do feel much more immersed when my hands remain on the controls at all times. We all want a good hand tracking solution, and I haven't tried the rift controllers (VIVE user) but do you find they are a good solution at present when you also have a HOTAS to manage? Do you not have to put them on, and take them off again and do they not get in the way, and annoy you, and can they really be used in flight properly when fighting? I know they are much better than the Vive wands but still I'm a bit skeptical to be honest especially as I mainly fly helicopters! Personally at this stage unless I am missing something it doesn't really seem to be a superior solution to even a single mouse, of which there is only one, and my guess is eventually when the novelty wears off, you too perhaps wont use the touch controllers until the tech has improved. Tell me why I'm wrong though!

  12. I used to do that and thought it was was great until I tried to use buttons, knobs and dials that really require an axis such as the mouse wheel otherwise it becomes painfully slow. If you use voice attack you needn’t disable the ‘use mouse’ button and set left mouse to a command. It’s not something you would use to set up systems (do before takeoff) but perfect for emergencies when you need to change something but don’t wish to be grappling for the mouse. You also wont waste valuable HOTAS buttons!
  13. Ah but you misunderstand! I fly with my trusty Gazelle copilot Brawn and he sets things up on my order while I am gazing out of the window!
  14. I only just got VA myself I would like to hear what others say about Viacom and what it actually brings to the table myself. I think it's a ready made profile software (someone correct me if I am wrong) that provides immersive radio feedback whenever you say something. So it feels like you are really communicating with your flight controllers. This sounds fantastic but I don't really fancy learning another persons profile, as one of the great thing's about VA is not needing to memorize a big list of input commands. I was ready to buy Viacom but when I realized how easy VA was to set up myself I didn't feel as much of a need to buy a professional profile no matter how good of a profile it might be. Kinda think it might dissuade me from getting creative with VA myself at some point! All you really need to know is how to create sound files and have VA access them. I haven't gone that deep into VA yet to have radio chatter set to reply to my every command but it's something I would like to do some time down the road, however I am not sure if having lots of sound file's loading up in the background would be good for VR performance at present in DCS. The only reason I say that is at present DCS seems to lag in any situation where the computer needs to load some kind of process in the background, such as my jetseat or a virus program (or a bombing for example which someone theorized may actually be a result of DCS accessing sound files).
  15. Voice attack! Best 7 quid I ever spent, and had I known how easy it is to set up I would have bought it sooner. If you have VR it's almost essential (or at least once you've tried it)! I use it in the Gazelle for example and at mission start will simply say 'prepare weapon systems' and it will go ahead and do everything for me. I can also use it to turn on my jet-seat in game when I forget, and it can do a lot more cool things than just flight sim input. It allows one to turn anything on -such as an FPS counter- in game with a simple command. Instead of trying to remember the correct key combo you just say what you want instead! I used to just use the mouse (which is fine mostly) but with a co-pilot it actually feels as if I am giving him orders and he's setting things up for me! For myself I find it adds rather than detracts from the immersion though I can see why some would prefer to click everything themselves. Some essential buttons are also mapped to my Hotas too though(switch weapons). What voice attack is great for is taking complex key combinations -that would be difficult enough to remember let alone find in VR- and binding them to a memorable command.
  16. Turn the helicopter off?
  17. Thanks. I will try that. And no, not living under a rock, I just never saw a co-pilot and so always assumed there wasn't one!
  18. I was flying a dark mission early morning and got the fright of my life when I realized someone was sitting next to me (VR). It was my co-pilot! Loaded the mission again however and he's gone again! I didn't even realize the Gazelle had a co-pilot! Anyone know how or if I can get him back? I use voice attack so it's possible I enabled him. Will check my key bindings!
  19. Well first what are your settings and on what terrain/map/area? It's hard to know if by stutters people mean the re-projection or ghosting effect or actual stutters. I cant say I get stutters but with 4x MSSA when I turn my head or look to the ground I guess you could call it a stuttery effect. That's why most use 2x MSSA and 2 PD at the moment.
  20. I think in VR whether on this sim or the one who's name cannot be uttered, clouds and trees are sadly always going to be liable to do goofy things! You're not really supposed to see them as up close as we do!
  21. I didn't realize one could change gamma when in game now. This largely fixes the problem for me!
  22. Yes this effect is why I too use x2 over 4 as well, and I fly helicopters mostly so I'm sure its not as bigger problem for me, but the ghosting effect is especially distracting if want to get into a dogfight. For another well known sim I also make sure PD is lowered for this very reason (dogfights) although many people on similar rigs as mine bump theirs up as high as possible. I find although it might look better with higher graphics, in the end a better performance makes for a more immersive realistic experience.
  23. Have you enabled mouse in the VR menu?
  24. Yeah good point. Do you know if they plan to discontinue old generation 1 headsets as apple do with their ipads and phones? I do believe that companies like pimax and others in China could really do the market and its consumers a great favor by undercutting companies such as oculus which seek a market monopoly. Valve to their credit deserve praise too for keeping the platform open as it should mean eventually the market will be swamped with a whole range of cheaper alternatives that are compatible with steam VR software. Valve to be honest have been very lazy I think in terms of software and gaming development for the Vive, but by keeping their platform open they did the best thing for the VR industry as a whole and it means we will be able to choose whatever headset happens to come out. I have big hopes for foveated rendering too, but I'm not sure really how far along that technology is. I remember a year ago thinking it was just around the corner. Well hopefully I'm wrong cause with my vive base stations I should only need to buy the headset!
  25. Oops double post!
