2.5 Video Settings - VR Quality/Performance Balance
Wolf8312 replied to StrongHarm's topic in Virtual Reality
I'm finding it much smoother with visibility on low. But honestly it doesn't look any worse in VR really and is not something I notice. That's really the main thing I ask myself when determining what settings to choose, if having a setting on or off is distracting or not. Pixel density on low doesn't bother me much. I could also live with textures on low if I had to. The only thing I find almost indispensable for VR is MSSA, because too many jaggy lines for me is genuinely immersion breaking. Its perhaps better as well to have a lower visibility range if you are not running any or much MSSA, because the less things there are will mean less horrible jaggy lines! -
Haha I know its crazy isn't when you finally get to play the game you realize Jesus Christ this is what I should be doing. I just got voice attack as well, its fricking awesome but means yet more tinkering! Might give your settings a try though (lol) never tried AF on especially not that high, thought it would be huge performance hit. Totally agree about MSSA I cant live without 4x myself either, and I'd take it over pixel density pretty much every time!
-
That's what I use at the moment! Its literally impossible to get out alive with a headset on!
-
Lol! Couldn't it eject vertically downwards?
-
I cant find it anywhere either in game or from google! Anyone tell me what command/button it goes under? Many thanks!
-
Tried doing that with process lasso. Wasn’t able to get good results though I think because windows 10 didn’t function well restricted to one core. Think I’ll try again though, any advice on how to do it properly?

It depends on expectations/standards, your own system, and how you actually play DCS. Myself I just put a few targets around Vegas/Caucasus and go shooting. I have an absolute blast and just love the relaxation/exhilaration of flying (gazelle mainly)! There are missions that are unplayable for me even now, and massive multi explosions still seem to be lagging the game when there is a lot of activity going on, but really realistically DCS is a hugely demanding game. Most people I think when they say its great now, mean just generally without too much going on in a mission. For getting the best from the VR/DCS experience the mission editor is just as important as the graphics settings. Its best to create new, or tailor pre existing missions to your own VR specifications. An option to limit tree numbers would be nice though! I really think it would be great if the VR community could post up missions for each other to fly, missions designed with VR performance in mind! At the moment the lighting has problems in and outside of the cockpit. Night missions are waaay too dark, flying over a city like Vegas feels more like flying over war time London in a Dornier! But these are all issues that will be fixed I think! Try Vegas at 7.30 in December!

Post maybe a screen shot of exactly what settings to change. I changed mine but couldn't see the difference.
-
Ah thanks never noticed that before!

I really don't think it works to be honest. I think the game for whatever reason is just suddenly working better for us now but it has nothing to do with the Nvidia control panel settings. I think the devs have just pulled it off, and somehow when we first loaded the game up there were all kinds of conflicting graphics files that were messing up performance. Strangest thing is that MSSA with no DS runs horribly now! The settings you posted above for your system are pretty high settings by earlier versions of DCS standards especially when giving that MSSA and DS together used to make the game unplayable. Compared to yourself I am only running at 4x MSSA with DS and no AF but doing so on a 1080Ti and an I7-8770k. That's with no input from the nvidia panel for sure as those settings have not been touched... I do believe that its much better optimized and now MSSA and DS are perfectly possible. Try turning off the nvidia settings now and see if performance suddenly tanks. Forget the fps counters for a moment as well just see if you can tell the difference.
-
How exactly do you leave a signature with system specs on this forum?
-
What about how it looks can you turn on AA in nvidia CP and notice a difference?
-
Are you sure though? I'm seeing a few people saying it now works though haven't tested it myself!
-
It might just not be very well supported at the moment. As a Vive user I can tell you in DCS it was about a year before performance really caught up with the rift, and for DCS alone I think I'd still rather have the oculus (though I would never want to support such a closed and invasive platform)! Cant imagine why it would affect resolution though! Have you got it dialed in properly? You might try to ask a DCS or odyssey developer about this... Thanks for reporting it though.
-
So how well does it actually work? Are you still using a HOTAS with the Oculus controllers? Is it accurate, or annoying at all? Will you be using this set up from now into the future? Or is it a very rough around the edges alpha/beta kind of thing? As I have a Vive I will have to wait for the knuckles I suppose but even they might be too cluncky as I will never give up my HOTAS for motion tracked controllers and the vive wands combined with my hog would be just no!
-
I bet if you do a clean uninstall and install the game again from scratch it would work.
-
Here's mine. i7-8770k 5.ghz 1080Ti OC, 1 T SSD, 16 G 3200. I'm certainly not getting 90 fps, but I honestly get a very smooth experience. At the moment for some weird reason it holds far more stable than turning DS off and keeping MSSA 4x on. Plays as good as vegas 2.2 did so I couldn't really be happier giving how it looks!

Thanks probably will just use in game. Was just testing it really!

Frametimes and CPU usage in 2.5 vs 2.2
Wolf8312 replied to voodooman's topic in Game Performance Bugs
I’ve got mine working great now buddy, see this thread-https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=200844 For whatever reason (I cleaned/deleted config files, and did a windows system restore) I am now able to use defferd shading and MSSA x4 together with a pixel density of 1.2 (think I could push it a little higher) and actually get a much better experience than with no DS and just using MSSA alone. Your system could easily do the same you just have to fiddle around with it and don’t give up on deferred shading and MSSA together it can be done. Remember too windows ten seems to go haywire like every month! If you are still having trouble and really can’t fix it look into a system restore or even a clean install of windows 10. -
Strangest thing is that now deferred shading combined with MSSA x4 actually runs a lot smoother and with more stability than turning it off and just using MSSA x4 alone! PD is 1.2 and 1.4 in steam VR settings at the moment... My experience before (with DS off) was erratic with spikes and fps drops, stutters and just on the whole a very frustrating experience especially given the fact that I just upgraded all my hardware. It felt as if my new computer had been wiped out and I was back to square one! I don't think it has anything to do with FPS per say. My FPS may even be lower, I think its just more stable and consistent now...

Strange VR performance between DS on/off
Wolf8312 replied to toutenglisse's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Hey this post just made my day! I was certain that DS combined with MSSA x4 was an unplayable mess but after reading this and checking again it is suddenly working fantastically! I don't know whether it was because I cleaned up all the config files or did a system restore for windows but its a fricking whole new game! Like you said too the performance is no longer erratic but stable! Cockpit illumination might be a bit of an issue though! I think my lamps no longer work in the Gazelle! Thanks man! -
Holy cow! And the Caucasus is even better. Never even imagined it would be this good. Terrified to turn it off now in case I come back and it no longer works the same! It looks absolutely fantastic and the performance seems faultless out in the countryside! I really couldn't go back now! The explosions, and lighting, and colourful sunsets! It waaay exceeds my expectations and does indeed look as good as advertised! Have been depressed and frustrated all day but I think it just needs tweaking and MSSA and deferred shading together is actually doable! I would actually go as far to say that the Caucasus is more impressive than Vegas!
-
Its the strangest thing. Perhaps cause I deleted all those config folders or did a system restore, but now around Vegas I am actually able to use MSSA 4x along with deferred shading and have a smooth experience! Don't know how its possible but it really bodes well, because before it was just unplayable! It looks and plays great too! Windows 10 is so erratic I do wonder if I reinstalled both it and DCS if I wouldn't see great benefits! This has really cheered me up but I kind of worry I'm gonna do something and its going to go back to how it was before! I don't play massive intensive missions in VR and am happy creating my own SP experiences often by editing pre-existing missions to make them run better on VR, so I cant say if this will suit everyone! But very encouraging! Somehow seems more stable as well. I only realized and checked out DS again because in the performance thread another guy was saying the same thing! PS not going by FPS counters just by how it feels so I don't know or care about the fps!

Frametimes and CPU usage in 2.5 vs 2.2
Wolf8312 replied to voodooman's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Finding the same thing on 17-8770k an 1080ti, it’s like going back to 980ti 17-4770. I still have 2.2 which runs almost flawlessly around Vegas but 2.5 while often ok is erratic and will drop frames and perform pretty much as you say. Graphics are also as erratic as the performance is unfortunately... -
Have you noticed especially at night (but present when looking closely) how lights on the ground will cause a kind of flickering effect which is worse the more lights that are all together? You can see it on the monitor but obviously its more annoying in VR... Try a night mission in the viggen over the city and maybe you will know what I am talking about.
