Okay everyone...I found the solution!!! Go to DCS World\Mods\aircraft\FA-18C and open the Views.lua file and find the following line near the top... CameraViewAngleLimits = {30.000000,150.000000}, The default values are 20, 150 which gives a midpoint of 80. I changed it to 30, 150 to give me a midpoint of 90 on my HOTAS zoom axis which now matches by default FOV of 90 that I set. Hope this solution helps!!

There are a lot of issues right now with the current Open Beta. The next Open Beta update is scheduled for December 5. If all goes well with that then maybe Stable will get an update on December 12.

I am having issues setting my FOV in the Hornet. I use / and * on the NUMPAD to get my FOV to 90. I then press RALT+NUMPAD 0 to save. However, as soon as I touch my zoom axis on my HOTAS, the FOV resets back to 80. I have also tried editing the .lua files and set FOV to 90 but the in-game FOV continues to be 80 with TrackIR. UPDATE: I have found that I have to hit NUMPAD ENTER after the mission loads to get the FOV to 90; however, the FOV still resets to 80 if I use the zoom axis on my HOTAS. Is there anyway to set the midpoint of my zoom axis rotary to be the FOV of 90 and not 80?

No mods. I tried setting up the FOV without TrackIR running but that did not work either. Does anyone else have any solutions? UPDATE: I have found that I have to hit NUMPAD ENTER after the mission loads to get the FOV to 90; however, the FOV still resets to 80 if I use the zoom axis on my HOTAS. Is there anyway to set the midpoint of my zoom axis rotary to be the FOV of 90 and not 80?

I am having the exact same thing happen to me. There is no way to save the FOV. I use the method provided by David OC to get a FOV of 90 and then hit RALT+NUM 0. As soon as I touch the zoom axis on my HOTAS, it reverts back to the default FOV of 80. I have also tried editing the default FOV in the .lua files with no success.

To help with target identification. If being realistic and using ROE that states visual ID of target before firing, the ATFLIR can be used to zoom in on a target during a BVR engagement to properly identify it.

That was for the next update to Open Beta but I thought there was going to be a hotfix in between.

My ideal CAP loadout for the Hornet is Fuel x3, AIM-9 x2, AIM-120 x4 and AIM-7 x1 on the right fuselage station. The left fuselage station will eventually have the ATFLIR. This gives me a good amount of versatility for any situation I may encounter on a CAP.

OP said he used the in-game ruler as well which shows similar results of the Stennis being short. If accurate, this needs to be moved to the "Bugs" forum section and to me, is a significant problem. However, I believe that this version of the Stennis may just be placeholder until we get the upgraded carrier module which will hopefully fix this issue.

Oh man, this stinks! Well, thank you for your service and sharing what videos you could. I appreciated and enjoyed them greatly as they were a realistic and professional look at the life of a fighter pilot. I fully understand your reasoning for getting rid of your channel and I am saddened that you have to deal with this. Maybe you can find another way to display your videos such as on these forums...Never give up, never surrender!

Constant FPS over 100 at 1440p!? What are your system specs? With my specs and MSAA 2x and shadows turned down, my FPS will drop to near 60 over populated areas. Sitting on the runway at Nellis in the Hornet, my FPS drops to 65 when I look towards static aircraft I have on the ramp. Sure, my FPS will go well above 100 in the open desert or ocean but nothing constant because it drops significantly as soon as I approach or looks towards populated areas. However, I now lock my FPS at 60 for better overall performance and smoothness and no longer look at FPS except for testing purposes.

Incredible work SkateZilla! Thank you! The Jolly Rogers have always been my favorite and your fictional VFA-103 skins have made me think of new possibilities with the Tomcat coming out. I have always been one to stick to realism but now I am thinking of an air wing with both VFA-103 Hornet and VF-103 Tomcat squadrons. Hey, I know...not realistic in any way but in my DCS world it could happen. Both the Hornet and Tomcat communities wanted the Jolly Rogers legacy so the Navy settled and fielded two 103 squadrons with the difference being VF and VFA. With all that in mind, would it possible to get an AA tail code for the VFA-103 Hornet to match up with the AA tail code on the VF-103 Tomcats? Thanks again for your hard work and contributions to DCS!

I think ED should further clarify that these setting are for 1080p screen resolution. My monitor is 1440p and even with my system, the HIGH graphics settings will drop my FPS below 60. While certain PC hardware can help alleviate performance issues, I agree that even the highest end systems continue to see stutters and performance issues. The last few updates seem to have made this even worse. What I have done which seems to help, is that I lock my FPS to 60 which has made things perform better overall. For me, what this does is prevent my CPU and GPU load from running high and/or hitting 100%. It also matches the TrackIR refresh rate which helps to alleviate micro stutters when looking around. I continue to get the occasional stutter, especially with weapons hits and effects but things are running much smoother overall.

Great update Wags, thank you! Keep up the excellent work!

Yeah, that was unfortunate and embarrasing. “Summer of Flight” for an underwhelming and unneeded headset and well overpriced rudder pedals. Agree as well. It looks like TM is going to miss the end of 2018 release for the Hornet stick so maybe the delay is due to the development of a new and complete HOTAS.

Happy Thanksgiving! Good to see Snoopy still on the lookout for the Red Baron. I am thankful for having DCS, the Hornet and the soon to be Tomcat...the real Turkey Day. Oh, I am of course thankful for family, and health and all that good stuff too...:pilotfly:

I can but I have read in multiple places that it is best to leave the monitor refresh rate at 144Hz. Maybe someone with more knowledge and expertise can tell us why. Exactly. That lack of headroom when maxed at 100% usage is what may be reducing performance and leading to stutters. I could of course lower my DCS settings but I would rather max out the visual quality. 60 FPS seems fluid to my eyes and also works best with the TrackIR refresh rate.

I have a GSYNC monitor and don’t need VSYNC. Also, if I used VSYNC, it would limit my FPS to my monitor refresh rate which is 144Hz so that wouldn’t work. VSYNC would work for 60Hz non GSYNC monitors. I have an EVGA GPU and use the Precision X utility frame rate limiter. I set it at 61 FPS because for some reason, that is what is needed to get 60 FPS to dispaly in DCS.

Hey everyone. In regards to the performance issues some of us have been seeing, I may have found something that helps. When I leave my FPS unlimited, I am frequently seeing CPU and GPU usage both hit 100% with average CPU usage 70-80% and GPU usage 80-90%. This is when I see performance issues, stutters and of course TrackIR isn't as smooth either. When I limit my FPS to 60, my average CPU and GPU usage is literally cut in half and never spikes anywhere near 100%. With this, I have noticed much better performance, less stutters, and TrackIR is more fluid as well. This is also great for reducing PC temperatures and wear and tear on hardware. It may be that in our quest to get as high as FPS as possible, we are actually reducing performance. This is at least what I have found with my system and settings. So, for some of you who are having performance issues, try limiting your FPS to see if that helps.

I agree, it is a bug or at least due the Hornet not being optimized. I just did a little test and changed all my static Hornets to A-10's and the FPS drop was much less. So, to sum this whole thread up, the strange FPS behavior had nothing to do with anti-aliasing, at least not directly, but was caused by the Hornet statics. I look at a Hornet and my FPS drops significantly.
-
Interesting find but my ASUS MOBO LED has always been off and I have stutters so I don’t think this will help everyone. However, your finding could be suggestive that the stutters could be coming from other background processes but I still think it’s really due to DCS issues and not being optimized.

Great requests which I very much support. Unfortunately, it has been officially stated that NTTR is complete so I fear that we will not be seeing any new additions. With the Hornet and Tomcat, I would have thought NAS Fallon would have been planned from the beginning but sadly that wasn’t the case. It would have been a nice surprise addition with the three year anniversary of the NTTR map but we can only dream.

Well, we are still waiting for the new/improved/updated carrier module so maybe that will include all Nimitz class aircraft carriers.
-
I hope to see VFA-106 added by ED to the official liveries soon. It is a Fleet Replacement Squadron and perfect for us to fly and train in as we learn the Hornet through early access. To be honest, I don’t know why this wasn’t one of the original squadrons included but hopefully we see it soon.

I don’t know about everyone else, but I delete them after each update. I don’t really know if it helps or not but I have seen it recommended so many times on here that I just do it. On a side note, why is deleting these files even necessary?
