[Official] SimShaker for Aviators
aaron886 replied to f4l0's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
IRL there's no vibration for either. Just a lot of acceleration. It's reasonable to simulate that acceleration with rumble. Though I haven't received my JetSeat yet, I'd really like to try replacing any constant jet rumble with a lower back rumble that matches linear acceleration rate. (Nx dot) -
I've noticed something that degrades the otherwise brilliant looking Speedtrees. It appears to be either a shadow, except that it's lighter than the tree itself. They are not lit according to their relative position on the terrain, and disrupt the ground shadows. Take a look at these two images. (Maybe open them in two tabs so you can see the difference immediately.) The first image is a DCS screenshot, and the second image is photoshopped. I selected the affected shadowed areas and used the replace tool to replace light tones with blue-r, darker ones. Notice that I didn't edit the most distant trees on the left of the image. https://i.imgur.com/D8uPUfK.jpg https://i.imgur.com/MN6FQqW.jpg

Hey Blaze, couldn't help but notice whatever you did hasn't worked. Looks like you tried to paste an image into the signature block, but ended up with some copied text instead. You're looking for this button: Let me know if I can help another way, or if you have trouble uploading the image. I can help you get it scaled and uploaded, or whatever you need. S/F

It's SA, pretty much everywhere. (Corny and serious)

These threads inevitably turn into awkward childish nationalism with no facts and too many feelings. At least Beamscanner provided some interesting dicussion points instead of just listing opinions.

Perhaps they can be purchased online and replaced at home? Andre?

Constant problems with this, hope it's being worked on. -
TrackIR and EDTracker paired
aaron886 replied to ZQuickSilverZ's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
He means in-game. TrackIR is treated as an axis, for example. -
Why doesn't ED allow data export for one's own aircraft regardless of server setting? Seems a little shortsighted of them. Is there some way that could be exploited that I haven't imagined yet?
-
Honestly I would expect them to be offered for free, or at most for the cost of shipping. That was a very expensive joystick grip to have issues with loose screws and wiggling connections.
-
I would love to pull the trigger, but how can I, when they charge hundreds more for their ridiculous base stations? Sorry, bring the system price down or not happening. If it was 800 USD with the base stations, I would do it.

The first two are easy... 1. Anyone who knows won't say 2. Anyone who knows won't say

I have a hard time believing anyone could be proficient/quick enough with Leap for it to be useful. My experience with it was of fumbling with depth and trying to get my hands in exactly the right place to peck at a button. Agonizingly slow.

Custom center chair mount for control column

Oh man, that's great! I wanted to make something just like that but didn't have the means. I wish your friend would sell those. -
Case II landing - check out the throttle movement
aaron886 replied to Bullant's topic in Military and Aviation
I know you're joking, but these guys are flying real jets, with a margin of error of feet, and not using the stick to control glidepath at all. Techniques vary, but that's why the throttle is moving a lot. -
If the height of the center pedestal can be adjusted, and you intend to buy a VKB stick with an extension, do it. You'll get more precision from you stick with an extension. If you can't extend the stick, and your Volair Sim chassis allows you to have the stick mounted on your side at an ergonomical height (thigh height,) there's no reason to put it in the center.
-
Ok, Andre, I'm sold by the consistent praise of your customers! I've got a couple small dimension change requests for the SE, can we work together on those?
-
What? That's exactly how the trigger works.

Unveiling the VKB TECS Throttle Control System
aaron886 replied to UIV's topic in VKB-SIM Flight Gear
That'll be the highlight of this throttle. It's modeled on modern fighters that can make great use of mini-sticks. If you're hoping to use it for WWII fighters, it probably won't be perfectly suited for them. Not to totally discount you, but if VKB have listened they'll make the lower thumb hat and index finger hat into mini-sticks to satisfy both Russian and Western design preferences. Missing a chance to use either of those hats for mini-sticks would be missing about half the target audience. -
Russian Air Force Photos and Video (NO DISCUSSION)

Oh, I apologize. I'm referring to the "Sound Mode" as mentioned above. Is Sound Mode simply the use of a 3.5mm stereo plug? If that's the case it would be pretty easy to selectively send only game sounds to the seat, rather than including VoIP.
-
Good guy and a great contributor. Will certainly be missed.
-
I'm only a potential customer so this question may be a bit uninformed... is it possible to select a particular audio source for SSA to use for vibrations? For example, if I have a separate audio device being used for VoIP only, can that be excluded from SSA?

F/A-18E,F,G, Advanced Super Hornet - Block III+ - F/A-18XT
aaron886 replied to SkateZilla's topic in Military and Aviation
Everyone knows that, but you're making my point: people are too quick to insist that the F-35 can fit roles it isn't going to be used for right now. It's ineffectual discussion. There's a reason the Navy isn't interested in doing that, and a reason to have a force mix. -
F/A-18E,F,G, Advanced Super Hornet - Block III+ - F/A-18XT
aaron886 replied to SkateZilla's topic in Military and Aviation
The Super Hornet is a very capable fighter. It's extremely well-rounded, and it offers capabilities that the F-35C is not meant to deliver. 5th generation is a new way of approaching the strike fighter concept, and it is different from the current employment of strike fighter airplanes. A 5th gen jet is operated as a networked sensor node and a shot caller that can also strike targets and defend itself. In the words of an F-35C pilot I spoke with recently, "you can't put 12 AMRAAMs on an F-35. They're two different jets with two different roles." His later implication is that you just don't want to. This is akin to the development of the multi-role strike fighter itself: a shift in concept that requires re-examining the value and best employment of the platform as a weapon system, rather than trying to fit it into old roles. 4/4.5 and 5th generation are not exclusively mutual, and I believe the current strategic view is that they ought to be operated in a symbiotic manner. The Navy sees the F-35 and F/A-18E/F operating in tandem for the foreseeable future. There may be a time where the entire force distribution would better benefit from 5th-gen strike fighters only, but it's not right now. So, is the Super Hornet "not as good" as the F-35? Is that the right question to ask? Edit: bonus Super Hornet love: a Super Hornet driver in the same room said he'd met 4 Raptors WVR and killed all of them. (Though had the fight been BVR, he reckoned he would have lost.)
