  1. Early WIP of Fictional Swedish Camo livery, based on the AJS-37 Viggen. Also found the perfect spot for its fictional development - Saab 38, a lightweight attack aircraft developed in the late 70s intended to replace the Viggen (but ultimately discarded and followed up by the Gripen). So the Harrier could theoretically have been the result if that development had come to its full term and/or Sweden joining in on the joint development. So these liveries would be the AJ-38 Harrier. :P
  2. Speaking of, has anyone heard whether we can expect Harriers on the alpha client today or on Friday?
  3. Fictional Swedish Airforce livery. Based on the Gripen, pretty simple since it's the first time I've tried to make a skin. Do you guys use some kind of 3D viewer? Seems very tricky to do a complex skin when the only way to see how it really looks is when it's in-game.
  4. Haven't tried it in actual PvP yet, but the 99' nozzle angle + speed brake seems like an excellent way to force an overshoot. And, if feeling particularly frisky, maybe even add gear down and VSTOL flaps on top of it.
  5. Don't forget to test (or in my case, even bind to hotas) the flare salvo button for an 'Angel of Death' (AC-130) level of flare deployment. Looks glorious.
  6. Hate to see it go, loved the place and was looking forward to flying the Harrier there in the future, but thanks alot Mirknir for all your effort.
  7. Hmm, I updated my stable build to the beta, and got black textures on all of the models in the map editor. Works fine in-game though.
  8. Haven't made any skin yet, but I'm tempted to attempt something simple, say, adding the Swedish Airforce livery (gray with Gripen-like decals) as an alternative where the Viggen was replaced with Harriers for the attack role since it fits very well with the defensive modus operandi. And maybe someday down the line attempt something difficult, such as a camo version similar to the Viggen paintjob.
  9. We, unworthy peasants, beseech you, Chuck, the guide of the gods, to sprinkle your bite-sized wisdom into our domain, so that we may lead our flock of harriers to rabbit-infested farmlands. On the same note though, anyone got good tutorial videos for weapon deployment? Flying and simple methods (HUD CCIP bombing, Sidearm, rockets) is easy enough, but I haven't got half a clue of how to operate the targeting cameras or the mavericks. Managed to be able to enable slewing on the DMT once, that's about it, and don't even remember how.
  10. Aaaaand seems to be working again here.
  11. ^ Same problem. Played about an hour ago, went off to eat, came back to that screen. Gotta love DRM-testing with newly released modules...
  12. "Takeoff from ground" + "Takeoff from ground hot" Aw yeah.
  13. The command line isn't working to switch versions (unless it's rejected because stable and beta builds are identical or something), and the beta installer doesn't pull files from existing installation and doesn't allow for accepting/overwriting a copy of stable files in its folder. Looks like it's gonna be a 15-gig download after all. Edit - Command line solution is doing something now, must be on the cusp of release.
  14. Goddamnit, of course it must be the one version I don't use...
  15. Let's go, Harrier, let's go! ^^ In the meantime, here's an..."artist rendition" of a Harrier landing on a ship helipad.
  16. - The development of future models definitely factored in when purchasing this one - knowing that you can jump right into it, learn it through and through, and then eventually step up to one of the later models down the line for other aspects (e.g. A/A combat with radar and AIM-120s). There better at least be a very steep discount for previous harrier owners, no way that I'd ever be forking out full price for what boils down to just an upgrade. - Perhaps a short-term measure would be to replace the expendable jammers with chaff until (if ever) expendable jammers become an actual thing. I'm guessing its primary purpose is to act as a radar decoy, or? Probably more potent than chaff since it's active.

    FARPS

Felt a bit let-down with how the STOL capability of the Viggen has been a bit underdeveloped (and thus underutilized), since it's still seemingly impossible to start from anywhere except an airport, and a fair hassle with the vehicles to make it work out. Only found one server so far that even bothered to have one, and it didn't even work properly on it. That's why I'd much rather see a quick and easy solution that uses the existing robust FARP helipads rather than to wait and see considering all of the things that are currently in the development pipeline.

    FARPS

On the subject of FARPs, it would seem like a quite easy task to make some minor changes to it to become fully suited for the Harrier. Adding the portable metal grid texture to the currently empty area - the distance seems great for a STOL-capable aircraft runway length. And to at least on one of the pads lower it so that the slope doesn't become a hindrance for transitioning between the pad and the runway level.
  19. From that article. So I guess the DCS equivalent would be a FARP placed next to a suitable road, but sadly the FARP block is elevated massively (to deal with the roughest of terrains I'm guessing) which makes that seemingly impossible to pull off unless there's a way to lower it. But sure, landing pads only in the middle of nowhere wouldn't make sense, it's not as if landable surfaces are rare enough of a commodity to go to such extremes.
  20. Here's a post from earlier in this thread. And 's the video clip in which that base is being referred to ("forward basing concept", "40 miles from the enemy")as well as the bigger picture of it, the role/prowess of the Harrier, and the benefits it had to doing sorties from the carrier (which, as you say and is also mentioned, required long flights and several refueling runs).
  21. "Oh, 29th, guess I'll have to entertain myself for a week". - Reinstalls IL-2 BoS - Computer crashes while playing it and wont boot up again, something's bricked. "FML..." :noexpression:
  22. Darn, hoped for sooner but good to know when it's at. Thanks Razbam!
  23. Is it a cat because a harrier always lands on its "four feet"? :smilewink:
  24. Darnit, thought it was a release date announcement for the Harrier ^^
