  1. I think the biggest question is, CAN ED do anything more with their engine at this point? It's pretty ancient now in computer terms. We keep asking for Vehicle and FPS, or even just better AI, and ED stays mute. I love DCS, but I think it's time for ED to start looking to a future engine that is WELL ahead of what their current one can do. One that can run on more than ONE core, at the least.

    Unreal Engine 5

The problem with really old engines like DCS is, are they capable of simulating flight sim / vehicles / fps over whole worlds at modern graphics, or have they reached their limits? I think at that point, you should start considering buying in to a modern engine, and how much of the old material you would be able to port over, and how long it would take. I've downloaded UE5 and it really is a step up from the old UE4, which I really wasn't that impressed with. EDIT: EH! Double post. Sorry.
  3. Exactly how I feel. Tanks seem to just be turrets stuck in the ground. I pick them off at range. Boring. They just sit there when they can see the missiles coming at them. Aww. I want to see someones hand fly up and smack my cockpit window. Give me a chance to use the wipers.

Actually, you can now enable Large Worlds, and it will allow maps to 88 million km square by enabling 64 bit double floating point coordinates. Flight Sim ON! Lol, maybe. Have yet to see real proof of how much power, etc. it would take.
  5. Yep. The new UE5 can have terrains up to 88 million square kilometers. About the surface of the Earth. Been looking at it all of late, wondering if flight sim would be capable in it. Because it would of course, solve the vehicle and fps problems. Quite a step up in engine technology from what I've seen. Also, it has a lot of free textures and objects in their library, if I recall right. Great for making quick maps. Still haven't seen any real proof of it's flight sim capabilities yet though. Just a lot of talk.
  6. Really sounds like a memory leak, the way it's just filling up RAM.
  7. The Ground is MUCH NEEDED area now that we have helicopters. If your going to call it "World", then there needs to be a World. What I really want to see next is much more varied terrain (Getting so tired of forests next to flat farmland ). Swamps, canyons, small villages with more complex houses and much better texturing, etc. Terrain tanks and heli's can use to an advantage. Anything but the usual we've had for the last 10 years or so. Also, more varied ground units, in realistic groups, with AI that actually knows what it's doing. Mechanized rifle companies, realistic groups of SAMS with command vehicles, etc. Realistic Armies on the move.
  8. Very nice! Hope it leads to something, at least AI wise.
  9. Is she adding stingers?
  10. Lol, ya think? That's been happening for YEARS. After years of debate on here, I get the feeling DCS never plans on improving the ground. I wonder what ever happened to that Battlefield group who posted on here? They had some very interesting plans for DCS. Maybe they just couldn't do it in the end. Eventually, people like you and me just may have to move on to get what we want, and use DCS only for flight sim.
  11. We know it will take some doing, and that is why we have been patient. But you can't ignore what a vast amount of people want forever... For instance, I've been waiting 10 years to get iglas on the Shark. The ground truly does need some love, and soon. Otherwise, you might as well stay at 20,000 feet.
  12. The problem is, we have never had a true ground simulation. CA is kind of a joke, even in RTS terms. DCS: World should really be DCS: SKY. We have lived with that, because you were busy making planes for the sky (especially F-16 / F-18 and all the new components you had to code), and you've done a really good job at that. And of course, there's more to do on that as well (damage modeling, dynamic campaign, etc. ). But I hope one day, when you get the sky to point that you are happy with it, you start working on the ground, and making it MUCH more realistic. To the point that you can start making vehicle modules, and much more varied infantry with a LOT better AI. I fly mostly the Ka-50, so I'm low to the ground. I'm sure the world looks fine to Air to Air interceptors / fighters, but when you're low in a heli, you get to see the World close up, and there is a lot to be wanted. However, some of the roads and winding creeks going through the forests do look good, and give some sense of realism.

    FLIR on BS3.

It really does need FLIR. Otherwise, it just can't compete against other more modern helicopters. It was meant to be part of a pack, lead by a Ka-52 with radar, RWR, etc, so not sure if it would need RWR. Of course, the real problem is, there is no Ka-52 to be the leader, AI or otherwise. So, in that sense, we need a Ka-50 that can be standalone, like the Apache. So, RWR, chaff, igla, FLIR, etc. It's just a real mess as it stands now.
  14. Not against Main Battle Tank armor. Even some of the more modern APC's are pretty tough. Rockets punch MUCH harder with their 80mm HEAT warheads. Even the 30mm on the Warthog can only pierce about 90mm of RHA rated armor.
  15. Six pylons and igla's for one.
  16. Rockets suck unless they're up close. I use the funnel maneuver to get within about 3 to 6 meters and then punch rockets at armor. Beyond a few meters, out to like 50 meters, you're lucky if you get a hit or two. Beyond 50 meters, its a roll of the dice.
  17. Hopefully, the janitor working on it finishes it this year!
  18. Probably, but they're still won't be any night vision on the shkval. So, targeting at night is still useless.
  19. When I power dive, I flatten the collective and pitch the nose down. When I reach near where I want to be, I slowly pitch the nose up and slowly pull up on the collective, cutting my blades into the wind. If you bring the collective up too fast, you'll tear your blades off. With the blades flattened, the rotors act like a wing, letting you glide down.
  20. THIS! I was wondering how they thought they were going to survive their mad little run through the hostile armor. Whoever trained these pilots should have their head examined. Since we have the video, I guess the Russians were able to save the heli, and the two idiots piloting it.
  21. "DCS takes the simulations too literally to be fun or practical." War Thunder is thata way -->
  22. Because the Ka-50 wingmen are crap right now.
  23. Maybe they finally died of old age?
  24. Wow! You guy's were right! It is the janitor working on it.
