Request: Leap Motion for operating switches etc. in VR
MikeMikeJuliet replied to TripRodriguez's topic in DCS Modding
This might not be because ED wouldn't implement such a feature but rather because they are neck deep in merging 1.5 and 2.0, fixing a ton of bugs that seem to appear at every single turn, trying to finish Normandy and re-do the new Caucasus version and get the F/A-18 out... All this while also working on military contracts. Don't get me wrong, I would very much like to see this in the sim but we have to be patient. VR and motion controls are still at their infancy (despite motion controls having been around for quite a while) and thus I believe ED have their focus on improving the core sim. After all this juggling with multiple versions of the game has ended and DCS is again a stable product we might start seeing all new features with latest tech. I don't think it to be wise to try to implement such things to multiple versions if it isn't an absolute must. Regards, MikeMikeJuliet -
Not bad. We'll have to see if someone at ED has got a spare evening to code such a feature in. This is one of tose little things. Hmm.

When commenting "developers should concentrate on this and this module only", remember that: 1. There are multiple developement teams (yes, that means more than one aircraft is in the works all the time) 2. Many developement teams have smaller groups working on different aircraft, and moving them all to a single module might be impossible, or it might not even help at all. Sometimes the discussion on the forums makes me think people don't want any new aircraft in the sim because it's not their favorite... You don't have to fly it if you don't like it, but I bet you wan't to shoot down player controlled aircraft more than you do the dumb AI ones. Waiting for news on the -23 Regards, MikeMikeJuliet

Curse, skype, TS, Murmble, Discord, Ventrilo
MikeMikeJuliet replied to Scoll's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Go see Simple Radio Standalone in the mods section. It's the best 3rd party software for DCs in my opinion and doesn't even require TS. It's a full blown radio simulator that you use from within the aircraft itself. Regards, MikeMikeJuliet -
Can fuel gauge always be on?
MikeMikeJuliet replied to CptTangerine's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
You've got to realize that ergonomics were born after WWII from these kinds of anomalies. Someone had a great engineering idea, or it was just more reliable this way with the components they had back then. During and after WWII people realized that mishaps might get reduced by designing the cockpit for an actual human being. -
Thrustmaster T 16000M throttle keys not working
MikeMikeJuliet replied to D4n's topic in Controller & Assignment Bugs
You can assign buttons on it as well via the Thrustmaster TARGET GUI (or script editor if you have what it takes). Though some may advice against scripting or external programs, but that's entirely up to your personal taste. -
brightness and constrast settings for VR
MikeMikeJuliet replied to lefuneste01's topic in DCS Core Wish List
This is a good idea. I've been unable to use VR for prolonged times because I feel the brightness is too high, making my eyes dry up. So options to change color and brightness either way would be much appreciated. Regards, MikeMikeJuliet -
Sounds good! Slightly siding off the topic... I wonder if anyone would ever be building up a pilot body, with a kneeboard on the G-suit... that way you could - say - look at the map without the damn obstructive virtual kneeboard in view... Just sayin' :D Regards, MikeMikeJuliet

***DCS: AJS-37 Coming to DCS: World!***
MikeMikeJuliet replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
No idea about leathernecks further plans, but there is possibly going to be another player in the 3rd party scene, that might be offering what you desire... at some point in the distant future: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=177946 Just posted this week, and by the sounds of it, looks promising. Regards, MikeMikeJuliet PS, I'm sorry LN, I might have just distracted users away from your brilliant subforum! -
Okay, without speculation I wish these for 2.5
MikeMikeJuliet replied to Worrazen's topic in DCS Core Wish List
In reality there exist a lot of dual or even triple runways. Those are marked Left, Right and Center (in case of three runways with the same heading). Say your RWY heading is 138 degrees and you have two of them. These would be marked 14L and 14R respectively, and the opposing ends would be 32L and 32R. Just to let you know. Regards, MikeMikeJuliet -
Yes, Wags has stated that they will implement an option in the game to turn off all shadows besides the cockpit's. Not quite turning tree shadows off only, but a good step forward for performance nontheless. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2895046&postcount=16 there's the quote. No idea when this is coming to 1.5. though. Regards, MikeMikeJuliet

A little project I would like to present
MikeMikeJuliet replied to OverStratos's topic in 3D Modeling for DCS World
Mind if I ask, at which point are these projects? Are you still gathering data or already making initial versions? All DCS level eastern aircraft are very welcome to the sim! -
If all goes well, we will most likely see Viggen within the next 3 weeks... before christmas very likely.
-
I don't really have time to fly every single DCS-module, so I only buy those I really want to fly. I was interested in the Viggen alright, to have it flying while I go about my business with something else... but that video... The Viggen seems something else entirely... something we've not seen in DCS at all as of yet. This might very well be my next aircraft.

Gentlemen. 6 hours and 30 minutes remaining.

What do you use as mouse when flying?
MikeMikeJuliet replied to Ala12Rv-watermanpc's topic in DCS 2.9
Except that with track IR you may run into problems at the edge of your track-area when looking straight down for example. My view spazzes out sometimes when I try to look at some switches on the pedestals. Not ideal. At least with my setup. -
I know this sounds harsh, but is it just me, or the quality of the video... but... That was not that impressive. There were a couple of very nice looking parts, like the rocky mountain side but... Perhaps I've just been spoiled by what a modern PC can do graphically. I feel like the current DCS shows way better graphical prowess and features than that video does. So maybe it's just the video that's not so admiring. No disrespect intended.

What do you use as mouse when flying?
MikeMikeJuliet replied to Ala12Rv-watermanpc's topic in DCS 2.9
I guess for VR a trackball would be a decent solution since you don't have to move it around. This is especially true if you have everything tied to a chair like I do at the moment. Having a some sort of sticky mouse function in the game would make that quite quick to use, I think. We will have to see how that develops. The current two options (free mouse and POW-tied mouse) are not yet enough in my opinion. Luckily we already have mouse buttons that you can bind to a HOTAS. -
What do you use as mouse when flying?
MikeMikeJuliet replied to Ala12Rv-watermanpc's topic in DCS 2.9
That tends to be a problem. The only two things I can recommend at this point are: Try to map all controls to your HOTAS that you might need during combat and Try to learn the rythm in which things happen in combat. If you can use the systems while you have a short breather, you don't have to click switches in the most intence moments. In AG operations for example, you can set up your weapon systems after breaking from the last run, before turning back in. This way you don't have to fiddle with the mouse while you should aim. MikeMikeJuliet replied to Ala12Rv-watermanpc's topic in DCS 2.9
A good hotas would include all functions that you might need in combat in a pinch. Remember that in most aircraft you need to use some systems with the right hand and so need to control the aircraft with the left, but this should not be the case amidst combat... at least in more modern aircraft. Given that cockpit ergonomics were invented from the problems of some WW2 aircraft, it could well be that still many cold war aircraft may not be super ergonomic to use, forcing you to use your right hand for critical functions. What do you use as mouse when flying?
MikeMikeJuliet replied to Ala12Rv-watermanpc's topic in DCS 2.9
This was actually discussed in a couple of VR-wishlist threads, sort of. Point is, we should have a bunch of alternative mouse-modes. One thing that might help in your particular case, would be a sticky mouse, that would automatically go to the nearest switch if close enough. The threads we discussed the methods in are here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=168826 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=173329 Regards, MikeMikeJuliet -
That is exactly the way the HUD works. It allows for a wider field of view by combining the image of both eyes through the glass, without the need for a wider HUD physically. I know it feels strange at first, but that is how it works in real life. You see the left edge of the HUD display area with your right eye and vice versa. Only the center portion is what you see with both eyes. Try not to focus on it too much and you'll soon forget it's there. Regards, MikeMikeJuliet

Having a lot of other things to worry about usually helps :D
