  1. That's my standpoint, F-18 = F-16 = F-15E. I was only ever in the market for one of them and didn't have much of a preference other than not a two seater (I hate 2 seat fighters). I already bought the F-18, so yeah, basically no chance of me buying the F-16 unless it goes on sale for $10, in which case it would be added to my collection of useless modules I rarely mess with. The upcoming F-14 falls into that same trap. Really need some eastern birds to counter them or some attack choppers to open my wallet back up. More of the same simply doesn't interest me.
  2. If the PS5 has keyboard support, then sure, it could be done. But I can't see how it would be profitable to port it over. The console market is not known for its embrace of simulator type games in general (flying, racing or more realistic shooters such as ArmA).
  3. If you're in the USA, I recommend Newegg. Given the 2080Ti, I'm assuming you are after a zero compromise system. If so, grab an i7-8700k or i7-9700k, a good quality Z390 motherboard ($150+) and overclock the snot out of the i7. You'll also need a decent cooler, a 120mm double thick AIO or 240mm regular AIO will work fine. A beefy aircooler may also work, provided it's beefy enough and you have a case with lots of airflow (or run open air). You will also want a minimum of 16GB of DDR4 3200. I haven't found a use for more than 16GB, but DCS + system will eat up to around 12-13GB in larger missions. Your power supply should be in the 650-ish watt range for optimal efficiency. Minimum will be around 500W, but I wouldn't recommend going that low.
  4. The MiG-25 would be a lot of fun I think. Always had a thing for all out speed demons. Map size really shouldn't be a problem, go full burner all the way to the target area and full burner back and you'll quickly realize just how little range it actually has.
  5. You're missing the only major war they participated in, the Iran-Iraq war of the 1980's. It's showing was mixed, but it wasn't horrible. This is especially true given Iraq mostly had the ultra crappy MS versions instead of the much more potent ML's. Links at the bottom. As for the module, I expect it to be a fun plane. It bridges the gap between the MiG-21Bis and the MiG-29A and represents an interesting transition period. Will it stand up to the F/A-18C with 10 SPAMRAAMS? Not typically, but it should do pretty well against the F-5 and the F-4, if it ever gets made. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Iraqi_aerial_victories_during_the_Iran%E2%80%93Iraq_war https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Iranian_aerial_victories_during_the_Iran%E2%80%93Iraq_war
  6. I wonder where you are at. Here in the USA, the 1080 TI is less than half the price of the 2080 TI. In terms of performance, the 2080 ti is around 30% faster than the 1080 ti in general gaming according to pretty much all the independent reviews.
  7. You weren't the only one thinking the hind might come this year. I figured it would given BST's usual release pattern. Hopefully we see it in 2019. An updated Ka-50 is nice, but I'm bored with it after 10 years, need something different. I'm also bored with US fixed wing...
  8. 16GB System + 11GB VRAM. No memory issues. i7-8700k is the bottleneck.
  9. It's a safe bet that those working on the core engine do not play a direct role in individual module development. Also, switching graphics api's is not the kind of thing you can show off, especially when it's in progress. This is one of those things where we won't get any details until an "it's in internal testing now" type of message. No telling how long this switch will take. It's a complex task with undoubtedly numerous unexpected problems.
  10. Visit North Korea where this is the latest and greatest tech?:P Seriously though, looking good :).
  11. Ka-50. Yes, it is a jet. Perhaps you meant fixed wing though, in which case the F-18.
  12. Wags has stated unequivocally that DCS will not implement gameworks or any AMD equivalent. That means DCS will not support DLSS as RTX is part of gameworks.
  13. I recommend the 1080 Ti over the 2080. DCS currently uses 10.4 of the 11 GB of VRAM mine has when playing on 104th. RAM and VRAM are something you never want to run out of. When you do, performance will take a massive hit in the form of stuttering and freezing.
  14. Ok, I think I understand what you're asking now. I couldn't previously figure out why you mentioned rwr functions when talking about firing sparrows. To answer your apparent question, your own missiles should not trigger the RWR since it shouldn't see your own radar emissions. If this isn't the case, it's a bug. You will get launch warnings for friendly aircraft. I believe this is working as intended. There is an RWR filter knob near the power button for it. This may allow for removing NATO aircraft missile launch warnings, I have not tried it.
  15. There is nothing modern about the MiG-19 or MiG-23. Don't get me wrong, I look forwards to both but there is a pretty big gap between full fidelity blue planes and the red counterparts. The JF-17 is the only thing announced so far and though I'm hopeful for it, it is being develped by an unproven team.
  16. They are just there for show. If you activate random failures, then they should work as expected but then you just spawn a new plane if you have a failure.
  17. They already dropped. The 1080 Ti is retailing new at $100+ off what they sold for a few weeks ago.
  18. We desperately need a few modern-ish full fidelity red birds. The MiG-21-93 or better would help a lot. It isn't top of my wishlist, but it's better than nothing.
  19. I think you maybe trying to massively over complicate it. Process for AIM-7 in game is lock target, shoot and keep locked till missile hits or misses. There is nothing else to it.
  20. I wouldn't bet on it. It's a major code rewrite, it will take years probably.
  21. Welcome to DCS, where all guns use black powder from 200 years ago! The real guns certainly make some smoke, but it is heavily exaggerated in game as can be seen in pretty much any video. The problem is the smoke is too dense and opaque in game.
  22. Do nothing. Windows and the game do all that for you. There is absolutely nothing you can do except break your copy of the game or Windows.
  23. The problem is the value. They have such a huge price increase compared to last gen for such a negligible performance increase (estimated) that they arguably shouldn't even exist as a consumer product. And to your main point, imagine if everytime performance is doubled, price is also doubled. That basically means there is zero technological progress in the consumer market. If we had been using that model for even the last 10 years, the new 2080 would cost more than your house. Yet this appears to be what you're arguing for.
  24. When people talk about a red Gazelle, they typically mean something like the Mi-2URP. And yeah, blue needs an attack chopper too. I truly hope the Mi-24 and AH-1 are the next ED/BST modules and that the F-16 gets thrown on the back burner for a while.
  25. Well, it should lose track when looking at the sun. That's the kind of thing no IR camera can handle. I do have to wonder about longer ranges as well. I doubt the resolution of these cameras is very high. Beyond 1 or 2km, they likely aren't any more flare resistant than more traditional IR missiles.
