  1. I bought the full F-18 HOTAS setup from them, was about $300 in shipping and came in 4 boxes (throttle, stick base, stick, mounts). The throttle base was half of that $300. Given they sent it via fedex air and the sheer volume + weight, that probably was the actual shipping cost for them. International shipping is very expensive unless you're using cargo ships, which take months. I regularly ship between the USA and Canada for work and it literally costs $40.74 to ship a single aluminum water bottle via fedex ground (real number, mailed it last week).

  3. First impressions: It's simple to start and fairly straight forwards to operate once you learn where some of the stuff is. The chopper itself is a bit wobbly at low speed, much worse than Ka-50 with all AP channels off (my normal way of flying it). I'd say it's the most unstable chopper in game. VRS is a real danger with it, very Mi-8 like. It has some "interesting" handling characteristics that I'm still getting used to. I will say the AP is absolutely useless as is the trimmer. Not sure if realistic or not, but they are truly awful. Maybe I'm missing something though. It is pretty hilarious flying around with the AP button forward held, though. In terms of weaponry, 16 hellfires and FLIR making it a hell of a ATGM spammer. I think we have something to finally dethrone the Ka-50 as the best tank buster in the game, though the Ka-50 still has some advantages. I haven't messed with the front seat yet (not even mapped controls), will be interesting to see just how far it can be pushed with a human gunner. I did notice the gun shoots a bit high when using the helmet sight. I've tried aligning it by the book and deliberately trying to skew it, haven't been able to get it to shoot straight yet. Maybe I'm missing something. It does have a nice RWR but the lack of a laser detector is problematic. Got nailed a few times by the T-80's missiles. It does seem the AI CPG doesn't want to shoot beyond 5km for some reason. Hence the tank return fire issue I ran into. In terms of performance, I get roughly half the FPS I do with the Ka-50 in the exact same mission (about 30 fps instead of 60). I flew the Ka-50 after messing with the Apache to confirm. This is in VR with a 2080 Super, rest of specs in signature. The GPU is completely maxed out. I've also had 1 CTD in about 4 hours of play and the helmet sight alignment rings thingy refused to turn on after a few sorties. Had to restart DCS in order to get them to show again. Minor bug, but annoying. Overall it's about what I expected. Pretty good missile spammer with good sensors. Flight performance is poor compared to both the Ka-50 and Hind, but that's to be expected. I expect it will be a favorite among chopper flyers, certainly a very capable aircraft and so far the release seems solid despite a few little bugs.
  4. Getting about 30 fps with it on Caucuses map, no setting changes. Flying the exact same mission in Ka-50 gives 50-60 fps. This is with a reverb G2 and 2080S.

  6. Confirming shooting out of the window of an Apache is done in real life on a routine basis. Here's a historical documentary on its practice.
  7. Unlikely to be an option though I suspect it is more problematic in game than in real life (or VR). When viewing this stuff on a screen some things that are barely noticeable in VR or real life really get in the way due to the loss of stereo vision.
  8. Everything needed for a simple mission. So cold start, flight, and spamming hellfires/rockets/gun. Navigation, datalink and other support systems will wait till later. I expect the flying bit not to be any different from the other choppers, so that should be fairly straight forwards. I'll probably skip the AP systems as those just complicate things early on.

There may be additional stuff adding more stuff in other folders, not sure if these have everything but I'm guessing it has most.   10. Exactly. If you know where a manpad is, then it's an easy target. But if you don't know where it is, or worse, if one is even present, then they become very deadly.
  11. Interesting discussion. To summarize: the SA19 is an effective SAM that's difficult to defeat when it gets the jump on the player, and so most players in this thread don't like it in missions. I hate to be captain obvious, but it seems necessary in this case. If you see a SAM, any SAM, on your RWR (assuming you have one), you should probably treat it with a bit of respect and proceed cautiously. The SA19, unless something changed, will light you up with its search radar from plenty far away. You should know it's there long before it becomes a threat. The scary thing for the apache shouldn't be radar SAMs, but manpads. Those things are evil.
  12. I did a quick review of it a few weeks ago, you can check at the bottom. Short version is I like the throttle. I think shipping for that alone was about half the $300 total shipping. The package was sold out so I had to buy each individual component of the stick, base, throttle, etc but I got it all at one time, so at least some of it was merged in packaging. Throttle was by itself, it was one very chunky box.
  13. I find the Hind can safely dive to right around 350 km/h in DCS. But that is the wall, after that, the right side of the rotor disk will stall and there is often little time to recover, though it can be done reliably if diligent. To recover, chop the collective to minimum and get the nose up. Chopping the collective will briefly unstall the blades or at least make them less badly stalled. Pulling up will dump speed and that's what must be done. As for the sudden uncontrolled pitch up when even slight pitch up is commanded, that I am unsure about. That parachuting effect is unique to the DCS hind as far as I can tell. Never noticed it in the other DCS choppers. Often a dive recovery for me involves pulling back ever so slightly to initiate the pitch up and then giving full forwards stick to keep it from going 90 degrees off axis of travel and stalling out due to VRS. It's certainly odd behavior, no clue if it's realistic or not but it does strike me as highly suspicious. Outside of dive recovery, pitching up should be done gently at any kind of significant forward speed to avoid that parachuting effect. It's still pretty nimble and can definitely get around, just has that bizarre handling characteristic as modeled.
  14. I've found the G2 dislikes bright lights next to it. Never tried in total darkness but I have noticed that having my second monitor on or the lamp behind it can confuse the head tracking when seated at the desk. Overall tracking is generally fine, if keeping that bright close light limitation in mind. When using the hand controllers in either a brightly or dimly lit room, they track just fine. I can't comment on the device you're asking about specifically as I'd never heard of it before opening this thread.

  16. Same, I used to be a small time miner. I kept some of my lesser known alt coins but the main stuff got sold off years ago. Made a few $1000 off it but if I had just sat on it, I'd of made 10x that. I keep thinking it's just a bubble and it will burst. And so far, I've been right every time but then it jumps right back to the "bubble" amount a few months later and then repeats with a new bubble value. I don't know where this is going, there is no value in most crypto currencies and yet they keep going up. It doesn't seem like a fad anymore but there still isn't any value outside the privacy coins. And those both the banking system and governments hate with a passion, for the obvious reasons. So I just don't know. Right now I'm sitting on a few alt coins and the new bitcoin I'm getting through nicehash. Maybe some day that few hundred bucks worth of crap coins I have will be worth millions.
  17. Yes. I have both my laptop (RTX 2070) and desktop (RTX 2080 Super) mining around half the day. If I had them both running 24/7 since January, both would have paid for the entire systems several times over by now. And these aren't mining rigs, just an ordinary gaming PC and gaming laptop from 2 years ago. Wonder who's paying $2500 for a GPU? It's people who expect to profit by $200+ per month off it. That may not sound like much, but think about it, over the course of a year you will make $2400 and still have a high end GPU at the end of it that you could keep using or resell. Even an ancient RX 480 from ages ago is profitable to mine with. Estimated profits are around $50 a month. Run it for 5 months and it will generate more money than it cost brand new when it first came out. Think about that. Obvious question is how long this can last and for that I have no idea. It will either collapse entirely or just go on seemingly forever. Given the history of crypto, I suspect it isn't going anywhere.

  19. My guess is we'll start getting tutorial videos as it approaches, just like with the Hind and other recent modules. I wouldn't expect it to hit our PC's until all the basics are covered (startup, navigation, shooting).
  20. Back on topic, I expect the Apache to be very easy to fly. My guess is it will be similar to the Ka-50 in terms of stability but will suffer from torque unlike the Ka-50. As for what's hardest? Definitely not the Huey. Completely ignoring systems and just looking at takeoff, fly around, landing, the Huey is probably the third easiest, behind the Ka-50 (with all autopilot channels off) and the hilariously unrealistic flight model of the Gazelle. Hardest is either the Hip or Hind I think. Once again, that's with the autopilot off. I don't consider either to be difficult, but they are bit more susceptible to VRS and side slipping all over the place. Systems wise, I expect the Apache to be a nightmare of endless MFD pages where firing an unguided rocket pair requires 407 button presses much like the A-10 and F-18. I am really looking forwards to it, but like so many of those 80's and 90's aircraft, it uses early iterations of glass cockpits where engineers hadn't really figured out how UI should work yet. So really dumb useless stuff will be easy to access or the default mode while the most critical time sensitive things will be buried in many cases and lack direct access.
  21. IFF in DCS is magic for pretty much everything. If you are getting killed by friendlies equipped with radar, then they are just team killing for a laugh or don't know how to use the radar. If we're talking about aircraft that lack radar, such as other choppers, harriers or some with sketchy radar like MiG-21's and F-5's, then yeah, fair mistake as it's basically impossible to tell who is who unless aircraft are side restricted.
  22. Won't work, miners will just buy them. You have to understand that even right now, a dinky RX 5700XT will generate $128 a month profit on nicehash (which takes a decent cut) with $0.1 kW/h cost. Hell, even my laptop's RTX 2070 can generate over $100 a month. Mining is going no where, the supply of GPU's is not even remotely close to demand and with mining being as profitable as it is at the moment, the gaming GPU market is basically non-existent. Virtually all cards are for mining. The core problem is the chip manufacturers were running at capacity prior to COVID and then demand went up dramatically from everyone working at home. Throw in some supply disruptions from lockdowns and an unexpected mining boom and we have what we currently have. The only solution is to build new chip factories, but those take years to build. Some are in progress, but I've heard they are expected to come online in around 3-4 years. So this problem is here to stay.
  23. I find the near 90 fps claim with the Reverb G2 rather difficult to believe. On medium-high settings (visibility high, basic shadows but not flat), 50% resolution (in steam VR, the physical native resolution of the G2) and no anti-aliasing, I typically get 45-50 fps with reprojection forced off. This is with a 2080 Super. Admittedly a 6900XT is a fair bit faster, but I find it hard to believe it's that much faster especially since the 45-50 fps cap is due to the CPU in most cases (10600k at 4.9 GHz). Please share the full list of settings FETUS, if you really are getting performance on that level I'd love to know how.
  24. I picked one up a couple weeks ago too (stick as well). Coming from an X-55, I'm used to a simple hat switch for TDC control. With that said, I'm not sure I can reproduce your problem. There is an ever so slight deadzone built into the TDC but it is very slight. Feels almost like the TDC flexing slightly as pressure is applied rather than moving. Once it actually moves, simapp and DCS both detect the movement. I have noticed that the TDC in the hornet doesn't take these direct inputs though. It seems to have a pretty heavy response curve in it making much of the initial movement do basically nothing. But that has nothing to do with the control itself, that's a DCS F-18C specific issue. It may or may not be realistic. Either way, I don't find precise control to be a problem.
