I flew the Mig21 for the first time in a while with a friend yesterday and noticed that the eye/head position in the cockpit was far below the headrest. I have to look way up to even see the headrest! When I look at the pilot's head from the external view, his head is much higher, and positioned nicely in the headrest. My buddy check his view and has the same problem. I don't have any Mig21 mods installed, just using the English-Metric Cockpit from DCS. If I try to raise my view by pressing the RCtrl+RShift+Numpad8 keys, my head does move up, but then the HUD is out of view. You can see in this image that when I look right(or left) all I see is the bottom of the headrest and my eyes are level with the shoulder straps.

I'll try to answer some of these.. If you mean is there a difference between DCS regular stock game and DCS Open Beta for the Helios program? I have both installed. You have to put that export.lua file in the Scripts folder for each game. And if a profile has a mod to add additional viewports, you need to install that mod in each game. That's the only difference. When you run the Helios program, it sees whichever game you start automatically. -
Noob question: So when setting up the PTT, the manual appears to be saying to delete any keyboard or controllers assigned to your radios? So then, how does VAICOM interact with the radios? Maybe I am misunderstanding... But It is not working for me. I have LWin+LShift+1 assigned to Radio 1 in the VAICOM profile. When I press my hotas button I see the 'Transmit' message appear on the VAICOM Config window. But it doesn't work. The game's Comm menu doesn't open, and my Request to Taxi never happens. However, if I add the RAlt+\ keycommand to Radio 1, I can get the menu up and Request to Taxi, and it works. So, my radios are setup to the correct frequency, and my aircraft can communicate to the tower.. PS: I have PTT on Multi. I am flying the OBeta, and the Config Window shows my F/A-18c HORNET. I have setup the Configuration tab to 'Use custom DCS path' and Set it to the OB folder and checked the OB checkbox. So it seems to know I am flying the OB. EDIT: Got it working(kinda). Somehow my mic switch on the cable got flipped off. Doh!! Nellis ATC responds when I ask to taxi. But not when I request to Takeoff? They don't respond at all. VA log says: "1:56:50 PM - There are currently no Flight recipients available.":joystick: Why??

What a lot of people(me) do is make a keycard for your controllers. With so many planes it's easy to forget all you've learned if you don't fly an aircraft for a month. I suggest making a keycard for each aircraft. Use MS Paint, or Word and type your command assignments on a blank keycard.

Interesting!! Never heard of that before.

I saw where you posted your original problem(combining monitorsetups) in another thread. And one reply said he had modded the game to rename some of the 'LEFT_MFCD' and 'RIGHT_MFCD' viewports for some aircraft. That is the only solution. You cannot have duplicate named viewports. Period. So, either look at his post. or combine as many as you can that dont' duplicate. And make other lua files for the rest. And while your at it, go find that thread about the function that's broke, and bump it again! If that function worked it would solve this problem. -
Those Detents are good. I wish I had them on my throttle. I am look at modifying mine so it has those!! Get used to them. Don't get rid of them. You can adjust your throttle curve so that the detent(bump) is right where the afterburner starts! So then you will know by the bump that you are at the top of your full military power, and if you move it further you will engage the afterburner. That is very useful. The lower/first bump is for engine idle I think. Some aircraft(FA18, Harrier) have this and you need to move the throttle out of idle when starting the engine.

I agree with Varis, the A10c and Ka50 are probably the most complicated airplane and helicopter. Not the best place to start if you want to feel some accomplishment anytime soon. But, both are awesome and fun to play with. I personally think that the Harrier(AV-8B) is a good place to start. You can learn how to takeoff, navigate, land, and fire some guns/missiles. Each task might take you a day or so. Step by step... Learn what you want.. And the Hornet is similar to the Harrier, so you could learn that after and should be easier. But I would suggest learn one of the FC3 aircraft first so you can get up to speed and flying and destroying things faster and easier. And having fun quicker!! And you'll learn procedures and tactics that you can use as you progress to other aircraft, like Radio procedures, Tactics for ground attacking, defensive maneuvers, etc.. Good Luck!

Same group! That makes sense! I'll try that tomorrow, thanks all! Sent from my Moto Z Play using Tapatalk

You've got the LEFT_MFCD and RIGHT_MFCD in there several times. DCS will probably only use the first one or the last one every time. The others won't work. That's why we used that function before they broke it. Sent from my Moto Z Play using Tapatalk -

Sorry, I have a file like that, but haven't used it in about a year also. If you are still using that function reconfigure_for_unit(unit_type), it doesn't work anymore AFAIK. You may have just left out a comma or something like that. I've done that before and it took a long time to find. Here is my old one that doesn't use that function(). It works with a few aircraft that do not duplicate viewports. I hesitate to share it because it relies on viewport mods that others may not have, so they wouldn't work. It's just something I slapped together a long time ago. It worked when I was using it back then. Sorry I cannot help more. Helios Viewports by Snacko NO FUNCTION.lua -

Here is a 54 page guide. It's 4 years old and uses a different profile for the A10c. But the basics of the setup have not changed, so it should have some answers. The only difference is some profiles may have a mod to install to create additional Viewports if DCS does not have all of them. Some profiles may have a mod and some may not need one. You are welcome to PM me if you would like more help. -

What works, what doesn't? Every other aircraft works, but none of the FA18 viewports don't show up? The only problem would probably be if any of the viewport names were duplicated. Each one has to be unique. For example, you cannot have RIGHT_MFCD defined twice. Other than that, it should work. -
I'm trying to setup a Rapier FSA site, but no joy! They never fire at anything. I watched 2 videos on how to setup SAM sites(not Rapier) and they just plop the units down on the map and they seem to work with no further setup. Do the parts of a SAM site need to be 'connected' together somehow? So they work together? Do they need Advanced Waypoints for Free Fire or something?? Or is that it? You just plop them on the map and they work? I saw some posts about the Rapier having 'sound' bugs? But does it work?

I have a VKB Gunfighter MkII with MCG Pro. I am running VKB Device Config v.0.88.89, and Firmware v1.95.5. That is a BETA Firmware! But I've had no problems with it for over a month. If you check the 'Pulse' checkbox, it makes those two buttons (flip forward/back) press and release instantly. They do not stay pressed. You can see in my screenshot that Btn 24 & 28 are pressed and immediatly released, and then I pull and it holds btn 3 & 25 until I release. So the Pulse affects Btn 24 & 28. BTW, that Firmware added built-in stick trimming. You can assign the axis of one of the hats to move the center of your stick x/y axis. Essentially trimming your stick in any aircraft.

Thanks and sorry for the confusion. I have a generic helicopter collective controller that I use for light switches when I fly airplanes. I map as many of the lights as I can to it. But there are not enough! I thought I could map the strobe to the button but the game doesn't have a on/off command for it.
-
Thanks! I tested both of those. But when I let go of the button, it returns to OFF for both of them. You have to hold it to keep it on BRT or DIM. It doesn't toggle between BRT and OFF.
-
Great, Thanks! I just have one push button that I want to turn Strobe on BRT on one press, and then OFF on the next press.
-
I've tried for a few days to make a Strobe Light BRT/OFF toggle command, but have failed. The command shows up and I can assign it, but it does not toggle between anything(BRT, OFF, DIM). It just goes to the value_down from whatever it's set to. 0.0 is OFF, and 1.0 is BRT. Any help is appreciated.. { down = extlights_commands.Strobe, cockpit_device_id = devices.EXT_LIGHTS, value_down = 0.0, name = _('STROBE Lights Switch - ON/OFF'), category = {_('*MY CUSTOM COMMANDS*')}},

Have mine setup to set Master Arm to ARM when flipped out, and to SAFE to when flipped back(not pulled). That's 2 buttons. And then you can pull it for another button. Works great!

No Problem. Using the Editor, I moved them to the left side and made them bigger. I am using the _b profile and it has about 1.5 inches of blank space on each side. -

Have you clicked on the little green buttons near the center of the profile? And the panels do not appear? Which version of Helios are you using? -
Thank you for this AWESOME mod!! When I start, I am sitting one seat away from the wall, and facing the wall. I read in your ReadMe 'Pro Tip' that this is by design. But sitting in my game chair it is hard to look around. Is there some way that I can customize this angle? Thanks, Snacko EDIT: Never mind.. I figured it out. ;-)

Wish I could make a BRT/OFF toggle for the Strobe light. Can't believe with 8 other Strobe commands (for a 3 position switch) there is no toggle.
