I recently returned to DCS and of course, I had to check out the "new" Su-27. Lots of frustration, confusion and swearing ensued. This thing just doesn't want to fly stable, constant trimming is mandatory, tends to get into murderous spins at the slightest mistake and being in overall a pain in the ass to fly. For the first time in DCS I felt myself like "floating" rather than actually flying through the air. I never imagined Su-27 as being such "POS", I ended up switching to the 33 in the end to save myself the frustration. Then jumped into the Eagle and it was just smooth sailing. Super responsive and precise, nearly impossible to stall, auto-trimming and great weapons. It was like easy-mode after the 27. I wonder if the difference is 27 AFM being made by Eagle Dynamics themselves and the 15 being outsourced to a third party developer.

So I recently returned to DCS and quickly I found myself trying to achieve very weird stuff. While goofing around in the F-15 instant action mission, I found myself flying low and fast. Out of boredom I kept spamming my cannon. To my surprise I found out that If I actually get the angle right, I can outrun or even coincide with my bullets. Here's an example of my bullets splashing right in front of me: Though even after trying for 10 minutes and flying inside the bullet storm, I just couldn't get my bullets to hit me. Has anyone actually managed to kill themselves this way? Edit: I accidentally a word in the title

It would spice up the gameplay, why not. At least we know it exists and it works.

Shocking: US official claims US equipment is better. -
Why does the Air National Guard receive better equipment over the Air Force? It confuses me a bit.

I demand the ET seeker nerfed to compensate for the lack of roof mounted water boiling units in this game. -
Make sure you assign dcs.exe to your dedicated GPU and not the Intel GPU. I think that's your problem. This is not true. I had a similar (even slower) laptop with the same CPU but weaker GPU. I could play DCS at playable framerates (25+) at all times.

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
Erdem replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I'd say that ED has a list of "not allowed for third parties" aircraft list somewhere. The popularity of such a module would be so much that it's probably a good idea to secure it for the company. -

Su-27 Open-Beta chit-chat and first impressions!
Erdem replied to JulienBlanc's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
I just tried it about half an hour and I'm very frustrated. It's very difficult to handle and tends to stall with engine flame-out very quickly. I'm confused, isn't this plane supposed to handle well? It's the most murderous aircraft I've ever flown in DCS. Especially inverted stalls are irrecoverable since the engines tend to flame out and won't start again in that condition. It just doesn't match up with the reputation of this plane. Even the underpowered and overweight Su-25T feels a lot better than this. It makes flying the F-15C seem like a piece of cake. -
I'm not an expert, but what I keep hearing is that one it comes to single-threaded processing, AMD CPUs are pretty inferior compared to Intel CPUs. I'd go with an i5 or an i7. Xeon CPU's don't have extra "scientific" processing powers. AFAIK they're actually just workstation versions of the i7 desktop processors. They're higher quality i7's that are optimized for 24/7 usage(heat generation and voltage) and their performance is pretty similar.

Speed of sound decreases with altitude, so it's possible that you're reaching it and experiencing its effects sooner at altitude.

Any potential dangers in a faster-than-normal carrier landing?
Erdem replied to LJQCN101's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
I think this might be the danger: I don't know the technicalities but those cables are probably built for certain landing speeds and weight. Considering the Su-33 is a quite heavy fighter, the speed tolerance is probably not that much. -
Aww yiss. Su-27 with AFM(or PFM, whatever it's called these days) has been on my wishlist forever. Now we only need ED to actually get serious about this F-15C vs Su-27 thing and deliver us a DCS module with all its bells and whistles.

I have a TrackIR 4 Pro for about 8 years now and it still works perfectly, the hardware is definitely top-notch. That being said, it IS overpriced. Though, you have to consider that they're pretty much the only company producing a tracking camera exclusively for simulations and their market isn't huge, hence the price. I think the availability of VR headsets is going to kill their business nevertheless.

The answer seems to be "force a dogfight" yet people seem reluctant to suggest a way of doing it. Do you just plow your way through the AMRAAM spam? Perhaps you just turn away and hope the F-15 pilot gets bored? I'm interested in recent tactics of the Su-27 pilots as well, since I plan to return to FC and I'm very rusty. I haven't been playing FC for 5 years and probably a lot of things have changed(especially regarding missiles) since then, but my tactic during that time was to fire an ER at max range head-on, force them to turn away early, break lock, dive, notch and evade the AMRAAM(s) (it was pretty easy since SPO shows how close the missile is), quickly reacquire lock and try my luck with another ER. At this point there are probably more AMRAAMs on the way so I either used my speed to try to defeat the second salvo while keeping the lock(since you dived you should have plenty of speed), or if I thought the situation was bad, I just fired an ET with or without(not sure if this is possible anymore) lock and hoped for a cheap kill while disengaging full afterburners. WVR fights rarely happened outside the missions involving the mountainous region in the south. Anyways, I'm sure there are people who mastered the quirks of this plane lurking the forums so I'm also hopeful for a good response.

It's pretty much the same game without the DCS compatibility.
