Thanks @The_Fragger for the screenshots. The one with the model editor tool was particularly interesting (I'm always curious to see what tools/configuration/layout the experts are using). The 3D model itself looks really great, as always. We really appreciate your attention to detail! Has there been any word from Razbam on when they'll start coding? They gave a recent interview with Tactical Pascale... it was mostly about their Falklands map, but they touched on their other aircraft modules too. But Tactical Pascale failed to ask about the Bo-105. Just wondering if their has been any work done by Razbam since they took on the project?

Seaplanes in DCS would be a dream-come-true. The upcoming Marianas map certainly presents a fantastic opportunity for a range of WW2 aircraft such as those listed above. Seaplane operations were a significant part of that theatre and would complement naval operations well. The ability to search-and-rescue is another interesting factor (e.g. rescuing downed F4U Corsair pilots). Additionally, the Catalina (and numerous others) would even function in the English Channel (Normandy Map, or even the Channel Map) hunting U-boats (and there is already one of those in the WW2 assets pack). Given the recent progress made by the modding community ( e.g. the Latécoère 290 in https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/248213-the-dcs-float-plane-mod/ or the Felixstowe in https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/259748-ww-1-dcs-world-flying-circus-beta/), I don't think DCS seaplanes are quite as "out-of-reach" as we might imagine.

Amazing work! Thanks @The_Fragger for posting screenshots of your work. It really helps us appreciate the minutiae and attention to detail that you're putting into it. Especially without paint/texturing... and when _that_ finally starts appearing, I'm sure it will be photo-realistic.

No. Because that would require us to disable the integrity checking. From discord... -
How would an Avro Lancaster be any different from the already-existing B-17G? We already had the option for night-time intercept missions for ages, and they do not seem to be particularly popular. An AI Lancaster offers nothing new here.

Combined Arms (CA) is already integrated into the missions, allowing players to take control of Flak/AAA units to defend their airfields. We have several such "point units" for each side and might increase this in future, depending on the scenario. More generally, use of CA for the control of "mobile units" was removed due a combination of performance issues and the implementation of the CA interface, which is more suited to modern assets. For performance, it is not so much the units themselves, but the fact that, to create a plausible CA environment, it would require the implementation of hundreds (if not thousands) of units to create a convincing front line. Those units (and their interactions) have to big an impact on the server performance/stability. Additionally, the use of CA does require careful coordination, which means SRS communication and planning. And, at the moment, the player-uptake of SRS is not very high. We are considering using CA for some special events, but these are in the future and there are no details yet. -
*** AI J-35 Draken AI coming to DCS World!! ***

Yes, I was also hopeful. Oh well... maybe next time. Or maybe HB are secretly working on it in the forest where we can't see them? Please? -
^ THIS One of the best posts I've read on the DCS forums in ages. Really nailed it. Reconnaissance/Intelligence is a critical area of warfare from throughout the ages and no less so in the era of aviation. Being able to transfer, manipulate and use the intelligence is vital. Recon pods, cameras, etc. would add so much to a lot of aircraft in DCS and rapidly and realistically expand the depth and richness of the DCS ecosystem. The ability to find, solve and convey a complex and dynamic reconnaissance puzzle makes the scenarios come alive. It is utterly vital to a convincing dynamic campaign. And something that would add significant richness to any A-6 Intruder implementation.

fixed Regular bombs fail to explode with delay fuze
xvii-Dietrich replied to xvii-Dietrich's topic in Bugs and Problems
Ran some tests last night and today. Can confirm the issue reported in the OP is now fixed as of DCS OB<2.5.6.60966. Thanks. The mV fuses (both Wagerecht and Sturz) are 0.08s. Also, bombs set with the mV fuse setting fails to leave any crater (although oV does). However, these are both separate issues. -

If you are referring to the in-game score card... this is a bit odd and doesn't record (or sometimes over records) kills. Instead, SoW uses SlMod to do it's statistics handling. It is much better, although there are still occasionally anomalies. In any case, I had a look at the archive. Seems okay... your kill count went up one today, around the time that you first posted, so that makes sense. https://stormofwar.info/pilot_T+nH1Y3+.php -

Statistics do not instantly appear on the website. They are only processed at the end of each mission, and even then, there are some additional delays for various reasons. There is an explanation here: https://stormofwar.info/about.php#delay -
fixed Regular bombs fail to explode with delay fuze
xvii-Dietrich replied to xvii-Dietrich's topic in Bugs and Problems
I cannot remember exactly, and I cannot check it again until I get home from work. I think the first report (original post; 22-Nov-2020) was an SD 500 A. After the drop altitude was questioned, I did a second controlled test (follow-up post; 14-Dec-2020) and I think that was an SC 500 (not sure what casing type it was though). However, .trk files were included in both posts, so someone can re-create the exact circumstances of the test and see what I did (that's why we include tracks, right)? Hmmm.... interesting point. The tests I did were on a multiplayer server, with the aircraft control set to Client. I've not tried single-player, but will take a look when I next get a chance. -
fixed Regular bombs fail to explode with delay fuze
xvii-Dietrich replied to xvii-Dietrich's topic in Bugs and Problems
Last night I asked again on the DCS WW2 discord channel about the mV fuses not working on German aircraft. @NineLineresponded that the fuses are correct as is (namely mV = 0.08s). Whether the mV fuse is 0.08s or 14s is an important issue. However, it was not actually the point of this post. The point is that bombs do not explode whatsoever with the mV fuse which is incorrect. It is not whether they have the correct fuse delay, but that they work at all. For such a simple, easy-to-replicate issue, that we have carefully written-up and presented (with screenshots and .trk files as requested), it is frustrating that the issue has languished as "[INVESTIGATING]" for 2+ months and has not progressed to at least "[REPORTED]" status. It is also frustrating that the only way to get some feedback on the issue is by nagging about it on discord... what is the point of us writing careful reports? I understand that WW2 is not an ED priority, let alone Axis aircraft, yet still ground-ordnance therein. Nevertheless, the DCS FW 190 A-8's "key features" are advertised as "Accurate Fw 190 A-8 model, squadron markings, and weapons" (REF), and yet bugs like this exist (let alone modelling of bomb damage, or the woeful cluster munition situation). Given that dropped ordnance will be a key part of the upcoming DH98 Mosquito, I have grave reservations that it will get the attention needed to make it a WW2 module, and not just an airshow piece. -
Why was the assets pack not free?
xvii-Dietrich replied to GR00VYJERRY's topic in DCS: WWII Assets Pack
There is a selection of free WW2 assets in the base game. According the the patch notes (See the section "DCS WWII Assets pack by ED") from November of last year: Ref: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/news/changelog/openbeta/2.5.6.57264/ This is enough to create a basic scenario without needing to buy anything. Otherwise, sure, for the full WW2 assets pack, then you need to purchase it (which is fair enough... that work needs to be paid for somehow). The free set, however, has tanks on both sides, trucks on both sides, halftracks for both sides, and AAA for both sides. This, plus the free TF-51D and free Caucasus map means that a basic WW2 non-combat scenario can be set up and used by anyone. Then, if players happen to have other WW2 flyable modules, they can use them too. This is the basis of the online Clash of Wings server, which can be flown completely for free, as it only uses Caucasus and the free WW2 assets. If you happen to have a warbird, you can use it, but if you want to invite a friend, then even the TF-51D is permitted there. -
reported earlier FW190A8 20mm-shell water splash too large
xvii-Dietrich posted a topic in General Bugs
server-20210110-212034.trk The water splash for the FW 190 A-8 20mm shells is far too large. To test it (DCS Open Beta), I first placed a known object on the sea, then fired _only_ the inner 20mm cannons, and for a single shot (so that's two rounds... one per wing). I measured the ration of the water plume to the known object (a 25m Schnellboot) and then calculated the water plume size. Vertically, the water plume is 18 metres high (INCORRECT). Laterally, it is also about 15 metres in diameter (INCORRECT). I have attached screenshots and a track file. -
Request: Generic, multiplayer-suitable paintschemes
xvii-Dietrich replied to xvii-Dietrich's topic in F4U-1D
For the UK skins (Fleet Air Arm), please make sure the correct markings are used. ED have not got either the Mk.IX nor DH98 roundels correct for the RAF (see, e.g. https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/259214-mosquito-skins/?do=findComment&comment=4544257 ) Perhaps this is something that @DD_Fenrir or @Rockape could advise on? -
So, it seems the F4U is getting closer (it has it's own subforum now!). Great news. Definitely looking forward to it! However, I have a suggestion. I would like to please make a request to the developers when putting together the official paintschemes ("skins") for the upcoming F4U Corsair. Many of the skins for other aircraft are often hard-baked, famous cases, often representing aces and with their victories, markings and signature art indelibly fixed. While this is very cool for single-player missions, these are not so good for multiplayer. For example ... Here, not only do you not want everyone looking like the lead ace, but also there is the very practical problem of identifying who-is-who. As a result, could I suggest that you consider the possibility of some "common" skins. These are the absolute-standard painschemes, without special markings hard-coded. And, instead, they could have their numbers configured in the mission editor. This allows the mission builder the ability to put in hundreds of distinct aircraft, and reliably let the players distinguish among them. Ideally such a common skin would be available for each of the major users for the F4U Corsair (USN, USMC, RNFAA, RNZAF, et al.). I don't know exactly what those paintschemes would be (I am no F4U history expert... perhaps someone else could comment). However I'm just putting this idea forward for use server admins, and in reflection on the experiences we've had with the FW 190 A8 and P-47D. Thanks for your consideration. I am very much looking for to this module!

@PL_Harpoon@zcrazyx Fair enough. I agree with you both that the CEII will not be like a Tiger Moth or Bü 131 in terms of handling. My impression from the original poster was he was just after a tail-dragger to practice on and, for some reason, wasn't happy with the TF-51D. Giving it some more thought, the TF-51D really makes the most sense, but the CEII is an alternative... and seems better than ED devoting resources to building a dedicated WW2-era trainer.
-
What about the Christen Eagle II ? It's light, low-powered, multi-crew, tail-dragger. And that's what the OP is asking for, right? The CEII seems to be a reasonable stand-in for a Tiger Moth or Bücker Bü 131, but without the huge resources needed to create a totally new aircraft. Unless a 3rd-party developer steps in, although I can't think of any.

As this is the Pacific Theatre Wishlist sub-forum, going against Japanese assets was assumed. These don't have to be air assets either. (However as an Axis fighter (B-239E), it goes against the I-16. That's a nice match already.)
-
+2 I would also totally support seeing this in DCS. The point about it matching off against the I-16 is a good one - that would be superb. But it would be versatile to use in the Pacific as both an earlier player aircraft, suitable for lesser British Empire colonies, or even as an AI supplement.

Airfield assets pack? DEFINITELY!!! Having some ground-handling personnel would really help bring an airfield to life. Even just some guy in a pair of plain overalls would help immensely. Some suggestions: Some DCS ground units have the ability to have different paintschemes. Doing that to change uniform colours would be great. Khaki, grey, brown, olive, sand, would let crews be tweaked to suit the environment, whether it is a winter Caucasus, jungle Marianas or sunny Syria map. Alternatively, it could be used to change skin colour. For simple ground crews, avoid markings/headgear/etc. that prevent them from being used by different sides or in different eras. Consider also the WW2 aspect. A mechanic in grey overalls would work just as well on a Luftwaffe airfield, as he would on the flight deck of the Tarawa. Remember to cater for the rotarywing aircraft too. Don't just make them fixed-wing specific. Anything that supports WW2 and Cold War would be great, as far as I am concerned. Props and helicopters for the win.

Question about the NS 430 integration into the Gazelle
