  1. The masses of the cluster munitions for the FW 190 A-8 do not match historical values. Method for testing: DCS values were taken by comparing the "empty" loadout total aircraft mass to the "loaded" total aircraft mass. Care was taken to leave the pylon fitted, as this is not included in the historical munition masses (Gesamtgewicht; see references below). AB250 (w/ SD10A) DCS = 253kg Historical = 220kg AB250 (w/ SD2) DCS = 290kg Historical = 280kg AB500 (w/ SD10A) DCS = 500kg Historical = 470kg References - Zeichen-Nr. 113-4626.160, AB 250-2, 17 SD 10 A, Serie P Blatt 3a (Juli 1944) - Blatt AB 250-2 144 SD 2 Zt Serie P Blatt 6 (Mai 1943) - Zeichen-Nr. 113-4651.158, AB 500-1, 37 SD 10 A, Serie P, Blatt 4c, (Juli 1944) Tested using version DCS 2.7.2.8165.2 Open Beta
  2. Hehe... "slow progress" still means posting three screenshots and a video on Discord today. Additionally, RAZBAM_Prowler posted about 10 recent screenshots on the Bo-105 channel on the RAZBAM discord (most of which we've seen before). For those following progress on these forums, here's a still from the video posted today. It was noted the wear on the rivets that sit proud of the main plate, caused by the repeated striking of the lever. I also find the details in the editor interesting. I was _very_ pleased to see Bort Nummer 1, 2, 3, 4... because that implies customisable registration numbers (via the mission editor).
  3. Some more progress news. Last night @The_Fragger posted up some screenshots showing more 3D model and texturing work. He mentioned that in particular work had been done on the throttles/unlocker.
  4. 1. Stats are normally updated every 6-12 hours. See this link: https://stormofwar.info/about.php#delay (looks for the "Delayed updates to stats" section). 2. Squadrons that regularly participate on Storm of War can be found on this page: https://stormofwar.info/squadrons.php . The "preferred" column indicates the module that they have flown the most recently, although some squads vary a lot. You can also simply fly on the server and make a note of other groups (or individuals) that are flying at your normal flying time. You can contact individuals via these forums, or the Storm of War group on Steam. Or (probably most effective), you can reach out to squads is via the Storm of War discord. https://discord.com/invite/4Csg6E7
  5. Yes! Anything to support reconnaissance would be great. To extend the idea further, I would advocate adding a reconnaissance camera mechanism. When I was asked on features to implement in DCS, this was my recommendation. Furthermore, it could use the "guncam" mechanism (which already exists in the F-86F and MiG-15bis). 6.
  7. As reported on discord, the work has now moved up to the overhead panels. Here are the new screenshots.
  8. One one minor item to report today. This came up from a comment on skins. Obviously there is a LOT of interest in skins for the Bo 105 and there were lots of examples posted up from coastguards to polizei to rescue to ambulance and so on and so forth. Of course, having multiple options will help make the module appeal to a wider audience. The problem is that this is a) lots of work and b) it makes the module download size potentially huge. What would be good would be a) to have some extremely generic skins (plain colours, no markings, mission-editor configurable numbers) and then make that skin available to all nations. A forest green, desert brown and sea grey and you can use it anywhere; and b) a template so users can make their own. In any case, the official word from the developer is that skins will only be done when the texturing of the external part of the model starts... so that's a little way off for now.
  9. News from the discord front is nearly daily, these days. When asked what the status of the front panel instrumentation is, @The_Fragger replied that they are "modeled and animated". Only three words, but this is actually rather significant progress. There are a lot of instruments and getting the nuances sorted out for lots of dials, each with ever-so-slightly-different rotation ranges, dial-types, nested needles, etc. is quite fiddly (I recall doing an XP10 mod back in 2016 and instruments were a major time consuming factor). And then, as if this wasn't enough @nibbylotchipped in to report on the coding effort, stating that the "weapons system is functional, just missing self test modes". Again, that's major progress. Anyway, here's a screenshot of their quotes... Right, and then if that wasn't enough, @The_Fraggershowed off the texture work being done on the recently completed model works (see the posts over the last couple of weeks). Suddenly those wire meshes and drab-plastic-greys spring to life. Obviously all still very-much work in progress, but it is starting to look good in those places where the substance/textures are being applied.
  10. The Reichsbahn was critical to the logistics, deployment and distribution of the Wehrmacht and its materiél. Ref: https://uncpress.org/book/9781469613963/the-most-valuable-asset-of-the-reich/ Normandy without any Axis trains, is like D-Day without any Allied ships.
  11. https://stormofwar.net/2020/11/22/november-2020-yougguns-guide-to-buying-dcs-ww2-modules/ But don't forget to try the TF-51D. This is the unarmed version of the P-51D, which comes FOR FREE with DCS. It will give you a good idea of the aircraft. It also then lets you compare if someone draws a comparison between the TF51D/P-51D and some other aircraft.
  12. @ebabil If you mean available on the store for purchase, then my guess is probably not. (And hey, if I'm wrong then, that would be super!) These modules are extremely complex, and helicopter flight models are notoriously difficult. It should be pretty clear from the duration of this thread alone that the developers are paying attention to all the details. (And it should also be clear that they are not giving up either!!). However, if you mean are we going to see more screenshots and progress, then sure. In fact, today on the MilTech5 discord, the developer posted up some screenshots on Discord this morning showing the next stages of this detailed work. ( PS: Remember, I do not work for MilTech5 or RAZBAM... I'm just relaying some of the development screenshots that are being posted over on Discord, for those who prefer to follow progress here. I figure it saves them doing it, which means they've got more time to do development. Anyway, usual disclaimers... )
  13. I can't find it now, but my understanding is that ED are now managing weapons centrally, in order to ensure consistency between modules. There is a separate helicopter development (Bo-105) which, according to its lead developer, only used the HOT1 and HOT2 missiles. Ref: The conclusion from this is that there might be a HOT2 coming to DCS separate to the efforts of Polychop themselves, and that it would be an ED asset. Whether this could be applied to the SA342 is a totally different question, but it strikes me that this is the most likely way that the original posters request is likely to happen. Otherwise, I'd also recommend what @Harlikwin suggests... namely the pilot could use the HOT3, but simply self-restrict the mission requirements or operating conditions, in order to approximate a HOT2 scenario.
  14. Today, @The_Fragger posted a few screenshots of the pilot's collective on Discord. He wrote that this section in now done. Thus, another box ticked! Here are a few of the screenshots.
  15. No, sorry. Storm of War (SoW) is not a general WW2 aircraft server, it is a Normandy campaign server. The SoW mission set is specifically for this Normandy campaign and a limited date range therein. Although there are some anachronisms which we make, to compensate for the limited amount of WW2 aircraft and assets available in DCS, the use of the I-16 would be far too much of a jump for our scenario. Ref: https://stormofwar.net/dcsmissions/
  16. Friday is traditionally DCS "progress-update" day, with official newsletters, announcements and like. Today was no exception with ED showing off the first screenshots of the AH64 (which is, apparently, another type of helicopter). Meanwhile, @The_Fragger has been burning the midnight oil and posted the following up last night over the MilTech5 Discord channel. So that the Bo-105 gets its update today too, here are a small selection of the latest screenshots from him. This time, it's work on the collective. Usual disclaimers, etc. etc..
  17. Looks like a few screenshots were posted today. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/screenshots/
  18. Nice! The collective looks like it has some sort of black bolt or clip or something on a small slot on the side of the grey section. Is that to limit the travel? Or to adjust tension? Or what? Also, off-topic, what is the base that you are using for your cyclic? (Even more off-topic: totally agreed on the extension length comment... total game changer for me, when I fixed that.)
  19. Recently @The_Fragger posted a screenshot of the Bo-105 cockpit. I queried the weapon box (the beige-yellow box in the top-left). @The_Fragger was kind enough to post a photograph and a diagram on Discord. As I know there are people here who do not speak German, I've tried to translate this into (broken!) English. (Let me know if there are corrections.) Details ont he Bo-105C are pretty common on the web, but I (at least) had not seen anything on the PAH1 like this before. So, for that reason, I figured post it here for those on these forums who are curious.
  20. SUPERB!! I'm so pleased to see this aircraft coming to DCS. These older aircraft are so much more distinct and have so much character than their modern counterparts. The G.91 is one of my favourites and, as others have mentioned, there are now starting to be a few aircraft from that era, which gives the G.91 an ecosystem in which to fly. Really good news (and I like the timing for the announcement too). Best wishes IFE for this project!
  21. Indeed! We all hope it will be soon. However it is also, until recently, the work of one amazingly tenacious, talented and dedicated individual and the magnitude of such a project means inevitably it is going to take a lot of time. Now there's an expert coder on the project and things have started picking up a lot in the last few months. It was not so long back that there was a period where it was all "on ice" and we thought it may never happen at all. It is a credit to @The_Fragger that he never gave up. Yes, we're hoping it will be soon, but it's also clear it will be a long while yet... there are still so many details to attend to. One of the reasons for cross-posting images from Discord here is that I feel that it is important to maintain the "historical record". It reminds us of how long these things take and how the path is a long one... especially for those who start out as "just" self-taught modders or graphic-artists or 3D modellers. So, to that effect, here are some images that were posted today over on discord. Usual disclaimers, etc.. If anyone has seen any of my DCS helicopter landings, they will know why these are important.
  22. Did you mention this to the team? What was their response? thanks
  23. Ah, cool. That's definitely a good way to approach it for the time being. However, these antennas should be movable in azimuth (and in the case of the Wurzburg) in elevation too. For a 7.5mØ antenna at 560 MHz, the beam pattern is only 5 degrees or so (possible a bit more due to the Quirl system.) By steering the antenna (0-360 deg Az, 0-90 El) the sky can be scanned for aircraft. These should not be fixed objects (unless ED's actual intention is only to make targets for their Allied aircraft set). Hopefully in the next Sunday Supplement, @BIGNEWY can expound on how we can control these radars from a DCS-perspective, or at least indicate what ED's plans are so we can incorporate them into our missions. Returning to your project though, if you haven't found it already, I can recommend these sites for information about the placement of German radars during WW2 for the Normandy map region. https://www.geschichtsspuren.de/datenbanken/luftnachrichten-datenbank.html https://www.gyges.dk/the_luftnachrichten_dienst.htm
  24. Friendly aircraft contacts are available from the F10 menu "on request". Hostile contacts are reported periodically to you (you do not request it). You will see the contacts in the top right of the screen (by default). If you use SRS, then other pilots or the fighter-controller (GCI/ATC) can give you callouts too.
