  1. None of the cluster munitions are working correctly in the A8. They all have incorrect trajectories and do not damage targets appropriately. In some cases (SD2 submunitions) they have incorrect fuses too. ED have now removed all mention of cluster munitions from the store page for the A8, so I do not think they have any intention to address these issues any time soon, if at all (NRLTH). Your best bet is to stick with the SD500A (or SC500J... these are both actually identical, as far as the Lua is concerned). Use the "oV" fuse (the "mV" fuse has bugs). Wagerecht and Sturz makes no difference. Practice by equipping an A8 with an SD500A, unlimited ammunition, first pointing your aircraft gunsight directly at a target (any piece of distinguishable scenery will do), and release at a certain altitude. The exact altitude doesn't matter too much. Lower is more accurate, although too low will risk being caught in the blast damage. I personally use 800m, but anywhere from 500m to 1000m is fine - the important thing is to dive at the same angle and release at the same altitude each time. Now note how far short the bomb falls. Get back up to the same starting position and repeat the exercise, but this time aim at a point on the ground as far ahead of the target, as the previous shot fell short. Practice this until you get comfortable with hitting the target. The trick is making your approaches consistent. Then you can start applying a set offset to correct for shortfall. Also bear in mind the wind direction and adjust accordingly but, of course, you can start training in a mission with no wind to get started.
  2. Excellent! The AI J-35J Draken is still on the roadmap. The Draken is the only thing of interest to me from the list (given that we've hardly idea about the "next-gen HB module"). And hopefully that AI Draken will be converted to a flyable module one day.
  3. DCS 2.7 is currently not stable enough to support the SoW server. The server remains off pending further developments.
  4. Following the DCS 2.7.0.5118 Open Beta patch earlier today, Storm of War is back online again. We will be monitoring the situation very carefully, but if pilots notice problems, then please report them (either here or on the Storm of War discord: link). The server status can be monitored online here: https://stormofwar.info/ Due to the bugs and undocumented changes in DCS 2.7, a number of things remain broken in the statistics and in the missions, but the admin team are working to get these reverse-engineered and introduce workarounds. As the missions get repaired, we will get then back into the mission rotation as quickly as we can.
  5. Very cool screenshots! Some of those liveries looks superb. One thing that I'm wondering though, is whether it will be possible to change the fuselage/tail numbers for (at least some of) them using the mission editor. For example, in the attached image, there is "6136". Will it be possible for us to change that in part/full (e.g. to "1234" or even just "6137") without needing to create an entire new skin? The reason for asking is with regard to multiplayer. Some aircraft have hard-baked numbers, which make them problematic when you are trying to host a module on a public server, and you want them to be identifiable/distinguishable in some way. Thanks again for posting the screenshots, @6S.Duke. Very, very nice work.
  6. The recent DCS 2.7 patch has resulted in instability and we are now experiencing regular server crashes. As a result, the Storm of War server may be offline due to these crashes. Pilots are advised to check the online monitor https://stormofwar.info/ to see if the server is up. Additionally, changes in the DCS 2.7 patch have caused problems with the recording of statistics. We have been working for the last 24 hours trying to apply workarounds, but it remains problematic and there are still delays and errors in the system at this time.
  7. It can be really difficult. Especially if you have been used to flying other helicopters. Here are some tips that helped me. 1. Reduce your X- and Y- saturation. Here are the settings I used. https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/202979-the-key-to-zhe-gazelle/?do=findComment&comment=3889219 The video in that post is also worth watching. 2. Make sure you have the necessary stabiliser/gyro on (p99 of the manual). If you are starting out, create a hot-start mission so it is already on for you (it removes the ambiguity of whether you turned it on or not). 3. Set the artificial horizon to "DOP" (= doppler, p78 of the manual). This lets you know if you are going too fast or not to get into auto-hover. 4. Enable the control indicator (I think it is Rctrl+Enter). This will let you check if your controls are too extreme, but it also lets you see the position of them when you are in autohover. 5. Start by practising from a hot-start, lift off and immediately go into auto-hover on takeoff. 6. Fly with maximum load. Unlike other helicopters, where this is usually a problem, the SA342 has so much power-to-weight ratio, that adding a dust filter, full fuel, full weapons, IR suppressor, and everything will actually give it some inertia and make it (very slightly) more manageable. Finally, I assume you've taken at look at Chapter 11 of the manual (p129). This as the details fro the autopilot (incl. auto-hover) controls. Ref: Polychop/DCS: SA342 Gazelle Flight Manual (the one that comes with the module).
  8. Seen this morning (07-Apr-2021) on the Bo105 channel on the Razbam discord by one of the Razbam team working on the Bo 105. This is not new or unexpected, but it is re-confirming that the PAH will be first and that other versions are still planned. Just posting it here for those not on discord.
  9. In Episode 18 of the Air Combat Simulator podcast published yesterday, there was the second part of an interview with Nineline. Ref: https://redcircle.com/shows/air-combat-sim/episodes/c2bd0746-9a19-428e-b8f9-e00d9702d99c At 10m42s in the interview, @NineLine said, and I quote exactly: So, let me answer that categorically: YES. I would trade the 262 for the Hellcat. Nineline went on to say that the 262 would not be a good as people think it would be. Well, if it would be a challenge, great! Bring it on!! In fact the more temperamental and finicky the engines, the better. Its introduction has shaped the course of aviation in the 80 years since. Even if it was completely unarmed, I would still prefer it to the Hellcat (or any other aircraft currently in DCS). It has a context already in the simulator: a relevant map (Normandy), WW2 (European) Assets, and aircraft both to fly with (FW190D9) and against (P47D, B17G). And it would be a valuable and useful addition to our multiplayer server (Storm of War). Nineline went on to say about the Hellcat that it had "... one of the highest kill ratio aircraft in World War 2". That does not make for compelling game play. And I would ask: against what (air/sea/land) does the Hellcat fly? And I also understand that Nick Grey is partial to the Hellcat. Sure, it's his company, and no doubt we'll get that aircraft. But I do not not want to let the 262 be dismissed without adding at least one voice, no matter how small, for its inclusion in DCS World.
  10. Delighted to see the Bo-105 in the update. I am so looking forward to that one!
  11. In case people haven't seen it yet, there was some Bo-105 news in the latest Razbam update:
  12. Storm of War is now listing shared contributions for ships sunk. This means that if a ship goes down, the pilots who managed to score substantial hits on it will received a share of the loaded displacement of the target vessel. We use loaded displacement (tonnes), not tonnage (= capacity), so as to better recognise the sinking of warships. See this article for details: https://stormofwar.net/2021/03/14/march-2021-significant-stats-changes-coming-soon/ These contributions will also appear on the squadron pages and pilot totals, as well as individual pilots' statistics web pages.
  13. That would be neat. Ticks multiple other boxes at the same time... can be used on the supercarrier, blue transport helicopter and, of course, amphibious
  14. Following the Austrian and Danish paintschemes, I went hunting to see if the other two countries had something cool too. Sweden... absolutely! Meanwhile in Finland... I'm still looking, but here forest green does seem rather popular.
  15. ED could also add more skins. Sure, maybe the top-10 glamorous personalised/fictional skins might win the competition, but still add in some the historical/generic skins to actually support people who want to fly WW2 missions, for the campaign builders and for the multiplayer community. I don't see why the P47 needs to be limited to only 11 official skins. Some other modules have huge numbers of skins for all sorts of nations, real or not (e.g. Ka50, Mi-8). Having extra skin downloads for servers is not effective. There are enough barriers to DCS-WW2 entry already: module purchase, map purchase, mission/campaign build/download, SRS download, etc.. Sure, it is "just" another download, but our experience from trying this (SoW server) is that layer-upon-layer of downloads and installs will kill off participation.
  16. ^^ V.Nice I've been going through looking for others with adjustable numbers. There are a few, which is really good to see. This is not just critical for the historical missions, but also for multiplayer servers.
  17. These are critical features... especially for historical missions. Thanks for this attention to customisation.
  18. The Draken module will be the first "1 Terabyte" module due to all the stunning liveries that will need to ship with it. Here are a few from Denmark.
  19. Good points. Thanks. I've followed up a few of the leads you suggest and now am having more doubts about the SA342 L helicopters used. These seem to be Syrian, and were used in an anti-tank role during the Lebannon War. But I am assuming these are HOT-1 (not HOT-3). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1982_Lebanon_War https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SA342#Lebanon Looking at the Falklands War, there were British Gazelles with rocket pods, but photos indicate that they are the earlier version of the SNEB that you mentioned. No sign of the cannon though. http://1000aircraftphotos.com/Contributions/WilkinsonNeil/8917.htm https://656squadron.org/history/falkland-islands/ https://i.imgur.com/o1dexo5.jpg What would be really good would be to find out what the introduction of the SA 342 into French service. When did they get the variants and the weapons-types, as that would be a definitive early-date for the different options. I was originally looking for something early, so still Cold-War-era (pre-1989). I'm guessing that the SA342 L is the only option here. Even with later weapons, it is sometimes possible to make them more historical, by removing certain weapon options (e.g. the cannon, in order to make a Falklands stand-in). Or, if there were HOT-2, but not HOT-3 missiles, then restricting the latter. Yes. That would definitely help. Not just for the SA342, but also for upcoming modules like the OH-58, etc.. (which now makes me wonder about the Bo105 and Mi-24)
  20. I am in the process of building some missions for the Gazelle SA342. However, I'm having trouble trying to pin down the dates in which the different variants entered service (this is important, because I want to select other appropriate-era units to include in the scenarios). I have checked the DCS SA342 manuals and guides, and have searched these forums, but did not find anything. There is a lot of online material, but it seems rather confused (SA341, 342, 342 J/K/L, etc.) and is complicated by when the weapons entered service (HOT2 vs HOT3 ) and then when they entered service on the Gazelle itself. My best guesses, therefore are: SA342 L = 1981 (based on use during Lebanese conflict) ?? SA342 Mistral = 1989 (based on availability of the Mistral missile) ?? SA342 M = 1998 (based on first use of the HOT3) ?? SA342 Minigun = 2016 (from article, see refs) ?? As the number of question marks indicate, I am not very confident in any of the dates that I've found. Does anyone know if these are correct (or even close)? If you have any other information, dates or references, please let us know. Thanks! References I've used: SA342 Gazelle SA341 light multi-role combat helicopter aircraft technical data https://www.air-cosmos.com/article/la-m134-minigun-qualifie-sur-les-gazelle-du-cos-12806 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HOT_(missile) https://www.army-technology.com/projects/mistral-missile/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mistral_(missile)
  21. You missed out "Arctic" from your list...
  22. Good question. I saw you posted in this thread... so you were obviously aware of this one: No doubt there are some squad servers, but I've also not found any public ones. I've encountered a lots that have helicopters, but they always seem to be added as an afterthought and don't integrate so well into the mission. And there are a few that seem to have started as helicopter servers, but slowly they start adding AV-8Bs, then A-10s, the F/A-18s and F-16s and slowly it morphs into another jet server again. Anyway, if you find anything good, do report back and let us know. I for one would be curious to know of anything.
  23. While hunting around for information on the Bo 105, I came across this rather neat cut-away diagram. As I couldn't find it in any of the threads here, I figured I'd post up the reference: Ref: https://ww2aircraft.net/forum/media/bo105cutaway1.24555/
  24. So, that implies that the 3D-implementation is different between the C-101/SA342 implementation (Aerges) and the L-39/Mi-8 implementation (Belsimtek)? If so, could there be a separate product on Steam for the former?
  25. And, where to put it (I mean, it will need a latitude/longitude so it can have correct rise/set times for sun, moon, etc.)... Well, the Oceanic Pole of Inaccessibility will give you the biggest map: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pole_of_inaccessibility#Oceanic_pole_of_inaccessibility However, doesn't DCS model the sea bed?
