I would say Viggen qualifies for high AOA for an plane, but normal AOA for something delta wingish. BTW, is there any chance we can get the Viggen Manual 1-2 weeks earlier then the release ? Like they did it with the f5e. That way we could blow up the entire russian invasion fleet on day 1 :joystick::pilotfly: :D

Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 8

http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=110243&d=1419533628 I am still hoping for polychop to bring the wunderwaffle. :D Apart from that I can see round 9 working as something goofy after something more realistic. I liked the round8 concept the best so far, but round9 concept isn't straight bad either. :) -

I love that when people claim you can disable the FBW. Its like saying "I have no Idea what the systems in this plane do, they must be broken". If you honestly could disable the FBW, the plane would instantly stop maneuvering. What you CAN do is putting FIXED gain parameters for the controll surface actuations in case your FBW computer fails and cant calculate load based parameters. And there was a patch since the Video you linked which is exactly supposed to improve performance with fixed FBW gain parameters. Radar gimball limits have been fixed. As said before you die more then 90% of the time in a single hit, the maybee 10% you are at best able to rtb. About best sustained turn, I do not know which speeds you are talking about, at low speeds [sub200kts] I was turning with a f15 on the deck for literally 40 seconds in training. And there was no substantial gain. The instant rate is surpreme, overall, but the sustained is pretty normal/not stellar at low speeds unless the f15 is a stellar sustained turner below 200kts, then obviously it is. Dunno about high speeds though, but at high speeds you can just burn your energy because 99% of pilots are just going to burn their energy as well no matter what frame they are in. Given that you need little AOA with a delta at high speed to increase the lift quite a bit, I can imagine the sustained turn is actually good at high speed. Old FM files got patched in last friday, so yeah atm there is situations where the FM got less realistic due to that, and overall I have no problem to agree that the Mirage is WIP and far from perfect. But I just honestly get triggered hardcore level when people say "disable FBW" and bring up issues of a WIP module which are literally weeks old. :D I cant tell you what module is closer to the real world performance, I simply do not know, from an aerodynamic standpoint I see no reason why either shall be massively flawed. But the fidelity of the mirage is obviously higher then the su27. Tie fighters turn bad btw, according to canon, they are a low cost spacecraft. :D Edit: didnt see gregs post, will cease fire on any module discussion. -
About the right direction, there is a public NASA paper on the Viggen aerodynamics if you want to get in depth. And honestly I expect it to turn better then an f4 by miles. The biggest problem here is probably G limit [7,5 afaik] and the rm8a, which will suffer from compressor stalls at high aoa [over 18degrees afaik.]. Aerodynamically you could probably get more out of the design, but well, there was no need so they didnt go for that.

Yeah I only meant home airfields. :) Atm blue only has hueys and 342m at sochi which is a massive PITA. -

Thats an exageration, you just need practice to do it and they need to fix the ground stabilising in combination with yaw. But its possible, its also well possible to fire from the hip against helicopters, they just need to be at range, so you can fire with centered camera and then slew onto the target. -

Well, depends. For sure 2 pairs of eyes is an advantage, but not as much as it would be having a second pairs of eyes in the shark, because the gazelle needs way more babysitting to keep flying in a straight line. :DD And it cant load a mix of armament, so either its hot3, or mistral, or cannon. So to cover all the aspects of armament the shark has, ranged a2g, ranged a2a, gun and rockets, you need 3 gazelles. You are still at a disadvantage in a2g and guns and about even on a2a [mistrals only have 4km range against heli but while so are easier to lock on]. Not even considering systems. So yeah, 6 Gazelles, 2 of each, add up overall to something comparable to ammunition and versatility one shark can carry. Only thing I want though is having at least one mistral and one gun gazelle at airfields for defence. That pack should be quite adequate to deal with a ka50. [ranged and close in weapons] [And before anyone starts crying omg bluefor whines, I am flying redfor this round. :D] -

Problem should be fixed by now, still a mi8 or even a huey have a huge advantage in time it takes for landing. And actually blue gets only 2 hueys as red gets 2 mi8s. But I think with all ze gazelles red should maybee get 4 mi8s. That should be fair, mi8 is simply straight away by far better transport chopper then anything blue has but numbers should work out quite well here. [2huyes +6 gazelles vs 4 mi8s + 2 sharks] -
What I tend to do is to define one optimum escape route point in the pvi800 some 13km out as a tgt point and high threat targets as tgt points as well. That way I just switch between tgt points while in route mode and press uncage to slew to the targets while the ka50 does the turning in to target and all the jazz. That way you can slew to it while the heli is still turning in, acquire and lock, and fire as soon as you are in range and can also switch back to the outbound tgt point as soon as thie missile has 2-3 seconds left till impact. Very good for single engine operation as well. Since you can just relax while the heli keeps that translational lift going. :D

0, missile is fixed in development with knowledge from people who seriously know their stuff. :D The missile we will get is pretty much so different, that testing atm is just testing the performance that will completely change on next release. :)
-
Honestly, interpreting cobras last statements we will see a viggen preorder or even release annoucement. :D For development update its a little late considering its nearly finished. :D
-
"another helo of thier current product line at the moment too. I can not say anything about the 3rd helo, but if we get a full clearance you all will have something nice to play woth " Since we didnt see, and I dont expect to see a non armed plane yet, I guess the EC145 is unlikely. Also to be considered here is that borchi said, IF they get a full clearance. Armed but not necessarily military helicopters are the Super Puma, Fennec and Panther. But all of theese wont need any clearance in terms of classification probably. Since they are all civilian helicopters with some simple weapon systems straped on to them. The only pure military helicopters eurocopter builds atm, are the NH90 and the Tiger. So yeah, I would expect, they want to do one of them both. If they got a full clerance or not will probably be only brought to light by time. :D

Great update, ED should ask you for a tutorial, how do develop missiles in DCS. :D

Have a meme I quickly threw together, to illustrate the style and feel killing anything with the rb05 will result in.

A10c 60km away, lazing le target, mirage running it at 600kts GS at 50 000ft, space gbu12 on its way. :D I mean yeah vikhrs are glorious, but they arent able to intercept a 600kts target at 50 000ft at 10nm horizontal range. :D Even SA6s dont bother you in that position. :D -

Well, depends who is flying it. :D The average KA50 pilot doesnt get as much attention as you get. Because the average ka50 pilot already gets enough attention by chaparrals. :D We will see, I am just an ajs 37 fanboy and I expect it to be kind of good at this. I hope its a/g radar will make spotting helis possible, although I doubt it atm, but well we will see. RB05 should be really just a thing like getting the kill with your gloves and top hat on. EDIt: Like this : :megalol: -

I tried with a buddy to laze a tanker, works as well. ))) Maybee we should just put one mirage with gbu12s and an a10c with a tgp on helicopter defense duty in the future and not all theese F15s flying in front of Reaper. :D -

;) The degree of sobriety is to be defined. But its smokeless, supersonic, flare proof, you can turn away from the target after launch and it was considered an effective anti helicopter weapon. [And 160kg HE warhead should be finally a missile which has enough destructive power to knock out an ka50 100% of the time. :D] But as said, I am not sure how usable it will be for that role in DCS and while I might not be able to down you, someone will have to take one to the face at some point just for the banter. ;D The by far more reasonable heli hunting setup for the Viggen is probably going to be 2x Cannonpods 2x maverick [with heavy warhead] and 2x aim9, or if you have GCI giving you coordinates just throw some hammers [bk90] at the coordinates, MJ2 should do the trick as well. But the RB05 will still have a place in my heart as one of the more banterous weapons to use to hit anything. :) Its like the 250kg bombs on the shark, it has more style to kill a bunker with 250kg bombs, then just throwing two vikhrs at it. :D Then there is the intermediate style level, where you go in with s8koms and land mlg pro 10/10 salvos on target. :D -

Wait for the almighty rb05 which will bring balance to the force. ;D Sooon TM. -
Ahh yeah now i remembert confused the GIAT 30 with the RMK30. The RMK30 was only ever fitted to a Wiesel, the cannon armament for the UHT Tiger was dropped since the military wanted a pure anti tank helicopter until it was to late to change it to a more appropriate concept for the time. The real meme here is that in the 80s the PAH1 [the bo105 we are getting] was considered the predecessor to the PAH2 which was supposed to be the tiger. [PAH => Panzerabwehrhubschrauber => Anti Tank helicopter] After all a version with a cannon would be probably more profitable but honestly for me its sensors > weapons, although the french/australian version have a laser designator which is also fancy. All of them would be probably the best solution.:lol:
-
Yep, but its still semi active laser homing. So no fire and forget, that was the thing I was mainly looking at, fire at those pesky tunguskas and simply mask again and do not care about them shooting the building/forrest/hill in front of you. :D
-
There are no german tigers with the gun, it was considered to limiting in terms of sensors you could put in the nose due to vibrations. So the german version does have a gimbaled high FOV FLIR in the nose, additional to the osiris mast sight. The mast sight has enough resolution/magnification btw to read a cars license plate at 15km, also you get fire and foreget salvo fireable pars3 lr not theese pesky semiactive missiles. And since they are lock on after launch you literally pop up for some seconds and have 4 imaging infrared seeking ATGMs on their way. Honestly I would want that capability over the cannon. Be like 4 times rifle PARS3 LR and make moltar jealous. )))

Same issues here. Can confirm.

In combination with hot aspect I guess type, since the radar reflection of engines/their intakes are pretty unique.
