Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 8
microvax replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
For the f15 radar you only see stuff as gci if they STT something, I dont even think TWS is enough. For groundunits its really just weird what they spot and what they dont spot. In general spotting in DCS is a lil bit weird. imho. Stuff like Tank spots you insta if you pop over cover, like instantly at 4km. And Im like, hey mate you are a t55 not a freakin Tunguska. :D But you can get within non firing zone of a SA13 if you fly low enouhg, it actually engages with a 7.62 or 12,something which is hilarious. :D Happy to have a conversation about how to hide your helicopter after blueflag since we both like to be undetected and stuff. :D -

Honestly you do not want to play when its 3:1 on blue. The clusterF is just to much. Beeing with 10 coordinatable people against 20-30 random arse failing people is way more enjoyable then the other way around. -

Yep I know, said last page already talking about it since round 6 but admins tended not to believe me it seems. :D And also some redfor people rushed to the keyboards to say the loss of blue assets was completely legit. So I simply accepted it. :D Caesar had an easier stand then me here sometimes. xD would give greag rep for his post but cant it says I have to give it to someone else first so you get it rocco for beeing an honest communist ! :D ;P -

It did have them before 10 minute save warning. If you want I can provide track file from 15 min before the restart. :) Video recording, Track and Tacview file cann al be handed in which show more then bunkers 17min before restart. After restart beslan was closed, still blue, but closed. -

Ah kay thakns for the info, I guess then its a myth that EWR doesnt spot you if you are 20m or lower and slower then 180kph, allways doubted it but well now I know it. So you have to stay in the radar shade all the time, that is practically close to impossibel from the north on beslan. I hate that. On practically every other Airfield or FARP or city you can get within 5km while staying in radar shade if you do a flightplan follow that and stay below 10m. Beslan is pretty much only possible from the west but there were KA50s and SA6 sites. :D didnt attack them for a reason. :D But well as long as GCI did spot me and it wasnt the eyes or sensors of anything flying around I am happy. According to the ka50 callsI got your helis were operating south of beslan, so nobody expected sneaky microvax from the north. ))) Yeah, the thing is if you are really flying below 10m, trying to stay below that at least, with non working trim, non working altitude, which is only barometric btw, hold, and you are trying to find as much stuff as possible to put between you and the Beslan radars you dont get much time to scan for threats, other then the front 45degrees lets say. but tbh if you are spoted and or locked by a KA50 beyond 1km you are toast in a gazelle anyway. Noticed the su27 only until i saw the s8 impacts. ^^ But as said I had my fun and 2,8km within 5km range for no friendly units within 50 miles is acceptable by my standards. If the units spot stuff in the flight params I was strafing for and to my knowledge operating in, its really just LOS which can save you. I really wished the gazelle had the range of its actual sensors. But I guess the spot through walls under the horizon with all equipment powered down is just no good way of doing it for 15km range. Polychop actually tried to build a function into it which would give info about if something is in sight or not, but apparently it was terrible performance wise and wasnt possible to put into multiplayer. *sigh*. 5km is simply a pretty small area with pretty short interception ranges for machines which are all 70-120 kph faster then you anyway. :D Would enjoy peeking over ridges at 15km then relocating way more. Well this is how it is. Really good fun flying around with actually having to think about where the enemy is. [in helis] And next time I am probably going straight line to the target as soon as I get painted by radar from there. :D Did try to get behind the next city to the north of beslan. Mistakes were made. TM. EDIT: Yeah, checked in the recording you were in my view for like 0,8 seconds. Then I turned towards the su27 locking me, then the first shots started hitting me. Then I pulled straight for beslan and kinda lost my tailrotor if I am not mistaken. :DD -

+1 asking for this since round 6 nobody seems to believe me sometimes. :DD Btw did the SU27, KA50 1 or KA50 2 got me 7,8km out to the north east of Beslan ? :D Edit:[Would also be interesting to know If GCI or a fighter or a heli did spot me. Was great fun sneaking around as long as it lasted but getting within 5k of beslan is really meh imho. :D Really adds to the fun of sneaking around that there was some ka50s to worry about. Trying to check the tack but as tracks are, you crash somewhere just because you flew low in the original one. Its really bothering me that you practically have to check tacview to clear theese kinds of questions, and you cant when your heli crashes in the track for no good reason whatsoevar. ] Didnt even know that all the freakin CAP was gone. :D -

No was 2 days ago at ge-sa. I got the mi8 after some time but it was a struggle he just could have run away. :DD Reaper I guess that was a fair fight. :D Was good fun muh heartrate was a little through the roof, cant believe I survived that engagement and lived to tell the story. xD Good fun. -

If you got someones 6 nothing is getting you off there in a gazelle. But getting there is hard since you cant really make more then 215kph in the 342l. Thats really its main draw back in heli to heli. Was flying behind an mi8 forevar trying to catch him, he never noticed me but I could not really catch up. xD But the little damage it can take is kinda made up for with beeing a pretty tiny target. Mistrals are going to be fun, but you still have to spot stuff... -

I know the feels ^^. As soon as the gazelle haz le mistrals I am up for some trials against an ka50. But in a rigid gun mount heli I am not going to meet a KA50 headon. Simply never. :D Its just suicide. But for surprise the gazelle is pretty damn good. -

I just saw it in the log, was spooling up in muh 342m. I just know the weird feeling when one gets killed in the ka50 by 7.62 and one is like "this should not have happend" :DD Nothing to be proud of anywhere. :D Just banterz. -

Yeah, I use SR and TS at the same time as GCI. It only gets messy if people on TS are crowding comms with completely irrelevant stuff. "Something is hit" "he is rolling" "whats the range off" And as said I sometimes get salty and tell people to either do interflight stuff on seperate SR or TS channel or I will cease GCI service on TS. If I only do it on TS, then its not that much of a problem, its annoying but not breaking much since you can still shout "BREAK YOU SCRUBLORDS", I should really have an audio sample at hand in mlg voice generator fashion, so I just have to press a button, and talk to whoever needs to be talked to immediately. But If I am monitoring 264, 254, frequency for someone I chit chat to or an flight frequency AND teamspeak, and I am talking to someone on one of the frequencies, its simply breaking your brain filtering nonsense from TS while talking + coordinating something on SRS. If someone does a short brevity call on TS for magic its no problem to quickly press the appropriate PTT and say "wait 1" while finishing the call on SRS, then come back to TS. But if people are having a nice teatime conversation on TS about some random nonsense its really straining your concentration. xD For the fox calls I am divided. There is pretty much 2 cases of Fox calls. People who arent currently in dialog with magic calling foxes are just plain I dunno, I do not even know where that fox is, what is the target its just useless info. If I am vectoring someone and he is like "judy, fox*", or we are seeking for something and people call foxes okay that is usefull. Mass weapons releases [moltar I am looking at you] calls are also usefull. I do know as magic "okay that stuff is getting seriously blown up", roll the helis or announce that to whoever needs to know. Meanwhile if someone is releasing a single maverick at an airfield, seriously who cares. On the other hand a single maverick against an blocking SA6 is really usefull info. But in the end FOX and Rifle calls are really the last problem I think we have in terms of crowded comms. -

I think its really about how reliable and communicative pilots you have at hand. And communicative includes people beeing honest about what they think they can do and what they think they cant. Two prime examples. Had a two ship mirage flight and a two ship f5e flight the same night. Both didn accomplish their mission but the mirage flight was great to work with, was realistic about expected outcome and technically had the more insane task, meanwhile the f5 flight was blaming and crowding comms all over the place. Its not the task, more the people that make people not wanna go GCI. :D At least that is the case for me sometimes. EDIT: Thanks for the ATC calls introduction. Will give it a try if there is time. :) The only thing that really annoys me if people are crowding GCI with ATC calls. And not even usefull ATC calls. Sometimes I am really a lil bit salty telling them to change to ATC freq. :D -

Yeah submarines and good submarine movies are great. Das Boot all ze way. -
Or just to troll the fighters trying to intercept you hardcore level. :DD I am training a bit with the mirage doing Viggen style missions, so I did a really quick really low alt strike against an enemy FARP in blueflag, and just burn away running for your life. While indeed an su27 did try to shoot me down on the way back, he neither could catch up nor could he reach me with missiles, 4km at sea level at mach 1.15 simply leads to so much air resistance that none of the 4 27r one 27t and one r73 did reach me. xDD He was winchester and did rtb after that. :D Cant wait to do that with the Viggen ! :D

Leatherneck plox, can we haz this cammo ? :D
-
Against Aircraft I allways send the first one with a a/a or a/a + headon and the second like 2 seconds later with an impact fuze. According to my testing results the impact fuze deals more damage then any of the A/A fuzes, I mean obviously due to the closer blast center. That way I ensure some damage and ideally the kill with the second vikhr. Edit: The pencils were a bad Idea due to the graphite and they got phased out relatively soon by the russians as well. :D Its an myth that the pencil is a sign of russian practical thinking. For once it is not ! :D

Yep there is no fragmentation damage, thats why s8KOM are simply much worse then they should be against unarmoured stuff. ATM in DCS fragmentation is kinda achieved by exagerated blast effect.

The bo105 is known to be very maneuverable so I guess its close, but has more inertia.

Dont think so it has mapping and ranging. Question here is mainly if the resolution of the screen is high enough to make out the small really reflective area a helicopter presents. The blades are mainly interesting for doppler filters, which the Viggen doesnt have.

Damn it ! :DD But honestly, I think the mirage is a better option for a runway strike. FBW really takes some work of you. And I dont think that the flanker can load enough fuel to go full afterburner for, wait, lemme see, roughly 27 minutes. xD EDIT: Also you have a pretty good RWR, so you can home in on airfields really easy anyway, at least in the terminal phase. And there is an suprisingly easy way to avoid the navigation error. Its called ILS m8. :D If we can get runway damage lead to no takeoffs by fixed wing for an hour or so that would be glorious. -

Oh, aehm and you had a navigational error, that is tblisi, not vaziani ! :D Ist runway damage enabled atm anyway ? And for how long is the runway unusable then ? -

I appreciate your braveness comred, but we didnt get why you did that 15min before server restart. :D I didnt know airfield defences are really that memeworthy. I mean IF I do low level bombing runs, I never go higher, literally NEVER then 30m, 30m already feels way to unsafe for me. 20m is okay, between 10 and 15m radar alt is where I want to be, 5m is the moment it starts to feel to low. :D If you need countermeasures against SAMs, you are flying either to slow or to high. :D Will be flying Viggen 24/7 on buddyspike hunting helicopters and striking the sh*t out of stuff. )) The mirage already proves how viable the concept really is. Did some efforts to protect GE-SA FARP yesterday. MI8 landed, did strafe him with wild guestimates between FPL and boresight, since mirage doesnt have A/G pipper yet for guns. I think I damaged him and took out his igla before he could unpack. :D [At least he never took off again.] Then a SU27 did spike me and I was like "yeaaaah - BYE !", I saw some missile trails while burning away, in total on the burn back to Sochi he fired 4 27R one 27T and an r73 at me. :D Two of the 27R and the r73 ate the terrain [i mean like few' 100ft terrain differences no massive mountains, was running on the coastline,], but the other two 27r and the single 27t, simply could not reach past 3.5km at mach 1.15+ at sea level. And I kept/extended slightly past 4km. :D That guy must have been so frustrated. :D After that he broke off, I think he was simply winchester ? :DD The viggen also has as much internal fuel as the mirage has with the centerline tank, has a more fuel efficient engine at low alt so one should not run into fuel issues either. Cant wait. :pilotfly: Edit: would love to join the chitchat on TS.
