  1. Well the wind at 1600ft is based on the wind on the ground and they can't be changed independently. Put in a 22 it crosswind and you get 47 it's at 1600ft so a massive amount of shear that you cannot change. Try it. And yes 0 gives you zero but try it and you will see what I mean. Unfortunately it makes it hard to teach good crosswind landing techniques as the amount of shear is unrealistic for 98% of normally experienced conditions. Oh and I did report it years ago but I guess like the wind direction being incorrectly reported it appears to be to tricky to correct. Tbh there is a lot of other stuff I wish was fixed first and as we control the weather it's not that big a deal just thought I would point it out. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk
  2. Unfortunately unless something changed recently you have a crazy amount of shear in DCS so while the landing mechanics are good the change in wind strength between ground level and 1000ft is a little over the top and unfortunately you can't change it. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk
  3. Please don't force cold start though, some of us only have limited time available so wasting time waiting for an INS just makes the mission less useful/playable. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk
  4. You are missing a little of what Mike said, it's not just the jamming that's missing but also the Aircraft counter to the jamming. If it was fully implemented on both while it would make a difference it would not be as much as you think. The current strobe with burn through at 23 miles or so is almost as unrealistic as non at all. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk
  5. Wingman is always into wind yes but I have never rotated early or landed long. I understand the principle you are talking about but it was never applied in fighters ( at least USAF and RAF ). The jets don't produce enough turbulence to make a significant difference. On a stream landing from a break just land at the start of the runway with 3000ft between aircraft. If you are doing a pairs approach then as per take off the wingman is on the upwind side. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk
  6. Yep hit the merge with the wings swept and then shock him by taking him single circle [emoji16] Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk
  7. Close formation you want to be in a constant setting coming into the boat. On the break it helps the jet slow quicker due to higher alpha swept. It looks cool and the Navy love that. I hit auto at 350 knots in the break but that's just me an old habit. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk
  8. Tbh if I am practicing case patterns I always just unhook and then burner airborne of the front of the ship, works in the 18 and the 14 no problem at light weight as in below trap weight. I don't see it as a problem though. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk
  9. We digress but people do fly more realistic missions with timing and specific tasks but they are generally with a squad as it takes some training and organization. It's not really possible on an ad hoc basis on a public server. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk
  10. I get the correct speed when I launch at that weight but not when I reduce the Aircraft from fully loaded down to that weight. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk
  11. In today's update 14 Aug 19 is the weight reporting fixed in a quick test I get on speed at roughly 165 fully loaded 70K ish Dump stores and tanks it drops to about 155[emoji16]. Dump fuel down to 6K and I am still seeing 155 on speed. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk
  12. Maybe I missed something but we were talking about shooting into a mix up with a locked target , flood would be a very brave/stupid thing to do. As to the rest a Fox 1 into a mix up was taught in real life and I would have happily bet my and my back seaters life on it but I will not get into SARH missile mechanic for obvious reasons. Sorry not trying to tell you how to play just wondering why you would want to. Anyone can do what they like obviously I was trying to understand why. I have always believed the old expression train like you fight DCS allows you to make them exactly the same. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk
  14. It is perfectly capable of switching targets when they are illuminated by the same beam I guess it's this line here you need to consider. If you are talking about firing a Fox 1 into a merge at 10 miles you would be correct but that's a scenario I don't consider cos you wouldn't ever do it. You would not shoot until you can visually Id the target. At that point say 3 miles I can lock and shoot with impunity the missile can only hit the locked target. If I see a friendly cross the lock I can trash it. On flood mode I used it once on flag at low level chasing a GR1 both of us just subsonic it was a pain and our tape was examined very carefully before they agreed it was a good shot. Yep it was a hail Mary for sure. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk
  15. This is only valid because it is a DCSism :). SARH should be just as susceptible to choosing the wrong target as a non-maddogged ARH. Mate this comment is completely wrong. The Sparrow Missile will only guide on the locked target it is not a DCS ism. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk

Lol maybe that's it, I spent 10 years simulating shooting missliles and only actually shooting 5 real missiles in all that time. That's probably why I don't understand someone wanting to simulate it when they don't have to. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk

Ok last comment but I really find this strange. So you want to simulate real life training where Pilots simulate shooting a real missile but the only reason the have to simulate shooting it is because they can only shoot the real thing, in training, maybe once in a career. But we are already in a simulator where it's free so you can simulate firing the real thing all the time. In essent You want to simulate firing a missile in a simulator.[emoji849] Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk

But they are used for real life training because you have no choice, the real thing costs too much. You can guarantee they would train with the real thing all the time if they could for maximum training value. So now I ask why would anyone in DCS decide to use a CATM 88 and reduce their training value? Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk

  20. Fwiw if you fire a Phoenix on a 40 Aspect or greater you can see that the missile flys pure pursuit from launch to the target not the targets launch position this can be seen in tacview. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk

Ok I am still a bit confused. The whole point is that you can fire what you like, unlike real life. While I did load the training 9Ls once when I wanted to do bfm practice on a server so they serve a useful purpose, in that you can take multiple shots against each other. Vs a ground target what's the point, it's not moving and you are going to get much less feedback than shooting the "real" missile. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk

Not trying to be difficult but why? You can just set unlimited ammunition and see what happens with a normal simulated missile. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk
  23. Shooting into a merge is about it ,still a ballsy move but you know it's going to the locked target and can trash it at any time if you don't like it. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk
  24. You are correct it was iirc the Saudis had it working I think it was in the jet but just disabled. I will admit it took a while for it to become so ingrained in you that you wouldn't forget to bring em forward when things got really busy. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk
  25. Auto wing sweep wasn't available in the RAF we all had to use it manually. This was actually an advantage tho as we could work to the NE limits knowing that the speed was gonna decrease to the NO limit by the time the wings got there. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk
