Fwiw we have shear wind built in by default. If you load a 10 kt crosswind on the ground it will give you almost 20kts at 1600ft with a shear which you can't adjust unfortunately. It makes it somewhat unrealistic if you chuck in a 30kt crosswind as you get shear that would only occur maybe 5% of the time IRL. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk

[RESOLVED] FM: Sinks to much during bank & groove.

I never took the risk with the full tanks just spent an extra couple of minutes on the tanker. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk -

Yep that works with empty tanks. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk -
The Wing loading is the critical factor although speed does make a difference. In the 777 below 25K we fly at 270 kts, lower than our normal climb speed of about 320 to mitigate some of the turbulence effects. We still get thrown around occasionally if it's really bad. In the Tornado we could actually change the wing loading by sweeping the wings back and this would make a significant difference to the felt turbulence, if you wanted to cruise smoothly at low level on a thermally day in the summer you could just put the wings back to 45 or 35. Neither of these aircraft get thrown around like a 172 though which I remember could get thrown all over the place by relatively mild turbulence. I still maintain that DCS does a pretty good job of representing this but then I fly with a jetseat and I know the F410 spent some time trying getting the feel right so maybe that colours my opinion somewhat. I would say they are not tempered enough maybe. No one has said that turbulence simulation is all there but I stated that's it's pretty good with the right feedback. The current turbulence questioned in the original post is probably a problem more down to the feedback available in your particular setup rather than a DCS problem. If you want it to feel more realistic you have to get a physical feedback device of some sort. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk

To feel it in your pants you need a jetseat or a butt kicker setup . As someone said turn on the turbulence it needs to be about 50 before it makes a difference but at that level you won't be cruising around the pattern like it's on rails. Yesterday on takeoff I hit my leads wake and had to fight a big flip felt completely realistic and shocked the heck out of me gonna have to start lining up on the correct side from now on. It's not a 20 million plus full motion sim but with the right gear and settings it does a great job. As the previous poster said without being a true motion sim it's about as good as we can get for now. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk

By game specific effects do you mean the stick shaking in which case I would be happy as I use the jetseat for Aircraft feedback as I find it way more realistic. What ffb stick would you be using ? Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk

I am very interested in the trim thing the force in the stick which did ramp up at speed in the Tornado was kind of subtle as in I don't miss it. Apart from the stick shaker as I previously mentioned most feedback is from your backside as to how the aircraft is handling. I am very interested in your trim idea tho. I would pay for a stick that lets me trim forces out to a position as in real life rather than always trimming to stick centered as we do in DCS. Does this work as of now with a FFB system I was under the impression they didn't allow much movement to start and we're more akin to an F16 which auto trims anyway. If you want to Simulator to feel like an aircraft then you aren't free to decide. We all feel the aircraft the same IRL and in the Sim, meaning real multi million dollar simulators. If you want it to just throw you around a bit then I guess you are correct it just won't feel like an aircraft. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk

Fwiw I find the Jetseat excellent for feedback. I turn off the g effect as it's too distracting and I am way more interested in buffet and AOA. I have my g suit still from the USAF but I don't think the effort required to make it inflate would be worth the reward. I find force-feedback sticks totally irelevant as in an Aircraft the feedback is through your backside not the stick. They may have a place in Helo flying but I am a fixed wing guy so I am not sure. I would love a motion seat but from what I have seen so far they are not realistic . If it rolls left when you turn left then it's wrong. Unfortunately the programming of a motion sim is kinda tricky. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk

Normally you can only read the HUD through the NVGs the rest of the guages are read underneath the goggles. NVGs circa 2000 were fine to fly with but I never pulled more than 5 g while wearing them. Our aircraft were eventually modded with green floods etc so the lights wouldn't effect the goggles, in the early days around 92 it was a goat having to use bits of tape on some lights. The current way of trying to read the guages through the goggles due to the FOV is totally a DCS ism. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk

[DCS BUG] Fuel gauge does not display 20,100lbs after refueling
WindyTX replied to Xenovia's topic in Bugs and Problems
Try removing the tanks and then reloading them in the rearm window. The tank is still there so it is not replacing it. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk -
https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3306387/ Try this one it's close to real life the black around the view is a little large in the Rift S but at least you can see underneath just enough. It's dam close to what I remember but it's been 17 years since I flew on NVGs It breaks integrity check but tbh I have given up waiting for ED to fix this problem I requested the change about 3 years ago. I think we are talking accounts on ED. I have 2 accounts as I have 2 VR setups so I can fly buddies around when they visit or sit in the back and shout at them [emoji16] Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk

Suggestion: Reduce cockpit frame and improve visibility
WindyTX replied to yngvef's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
If you have a problem with the canopy frame you need to move your head around more to see around it. It's what you would do in real life and after a while you will no longer notice the frame at all as it becomes second nature. The only time I find it a little awkward is in AAR but again not really a problem it's just a bit tricky to see the tanker references as you plug in, again tho ducking your head for a bit works fine. Also remember to go to area track so that it doesn't constantly move when you have found something you are looking for. After sorting the pod for laser code A2G mode I go to area track as soon as I start to search the target area to stabilize the pod else it constantly fights you. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk

Question about the F-14 throttle and general fighter lingo
WindyTX replied to S. Low's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Probably because if you are flying it IRL you don't care, so the engineer puts something on there but no one really notices too much. Sounds a bit glib but day 1 someone will brief and say ok the idle cut off gate has finger lifts , for burner you push through the 1st gate and combat is the second gate. You may look at the markings day one but probably never again, notice in the video he describes the throttle ranges while moving the throttles , he never looks at the marking or anything it's all just muscle memory. The Need for Force Feedback
WindyTX replied to Maksim Savelev's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It's odd I see a lot of talk about ffb on a stick but while I haven't flown an F16 I have flown a few fighters and a few commercial aircraft. While the stick in the commercial aircraft shakes with the stick shaker other than that artificial feedback buffet in an aircraft is felt through the airframe. I use a jetseat at home which to me feel way more representative of operating an aircraft vs having the stick shake. I do appreciate for Helo flying and some other scenarios it may be a good fit but for fixed wing fighter flying a jetseat is way more realistic imo. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk -
Have you tried turning off ASW. If you can't maintain 45fps it can make a mess sometimes. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk

When you select the afterburner check the nozzle they will open to 20% when they light up and then progressively open as the move the throttle forward. IRL this is how you check the burner is working correctly if you didn't feel it. Atm they seem a bit odd as it only goes from 20-40% but that may just be the wip. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk
