  1. So I have the CV1, and had the DK2. But I looked at about 10-20 different VS reviews online and they all pretty much said the same thing - if you use the Vive: you need room. Many you tubers I watch had to actually re-arrange their rooms to set up the Vive to work correctly. The CV1 works well in a sitting position which is what most of us pilots are doing. Head tracking is fine and the lightweight is great. Now if I had the money to build a 747 cockpit, I think the Vive might be cooler because I could get up and walk around the cabin better. For me another factor was that Vive is new versus Oculus which as been through a couple developer versions. I felt better spending 600 dollars after using the DK2 for quite a bit of time. I don't think I would have jumped into the VR game if the price was 800 dollars and I hadn't tested the developer version. These are my opinions so take them as you will.
  2. So just flew for about 1.5 hours this morning with the rift and discovered something. Xsplit broadcaster files don't like to go over 8 gigs. The video recorder crashed. I was able to get the video and some of the audio so I'm going to still use it. The audio that is missing will come from my go pro so won't be as good....but still better then having to re-record everything. Will hopefully edit and publish it tonight. EDIT: Was able to recover the audio from the recording. Rendering now and will upload. Total video is a little over an hour.
  3. So while I wouldn't call myself a helicopter expert, I have been able to both roll and loop the Gazelle. I'll see if I can either record a video or see if I have one of me actually doing it. I can say that doing it with the Oculus Rift on is super scary.
  4. My plan this weekend is to fly around 14 modules in DCS with the CV! to test it out. I created a mission today to help with it and will record tomorrow. Just hoping my gopro can record that long. So for recording I use Xsplit Broadcaster for grabbing the DCS video. I use a gopro to record me. I do have a webcam, but find the resolution on it isn't as good as the gopro. I might upgrade it someday but we'll see. For the differences, the CV1 is lighter then the DK2. I don't know exact numbers but it very noticable how much less it weights Also the CV1 forms to the head a lot nicer. The DK2 needed a lot of tweaking to stay on your head for long periods of time. The CV1 has three straps, but has a string loaded mechanism that helps stay on the head better. With the DK2 my daughers always had to hold it up with there heads, with the CV1 they can just sit back and enjoy (will try to get a video of them sometime). The DK2 does have some advantages. It can run on some older hardware is you still have the older Runtime for it. One of my favorite things to do was put DCS on my laptop and bring the laptop to tech meetings and replay a L-39 flight. I would put the person in the back seat and have them enjoy the flight. Also had a Huey flight recorded so they can feel the difference. Currently I don't have a laptop that could run the CV1. Another difference is the cables coming out of the device. The DK2 has two cables coming out, the CV1 has one. I find that the one cable is a bit nicer when moving around. I usually have my headset on and so limiting the cables around me is nice. There is also easier setup in the CV1 as well. With the DK2 you needed a coin to adjust the distance of the lens to the eye. You didn't have the option of bringing the lenses closer either. The CV1 has a slide at the bottom that moves the lenses closer or apart and it's easy to configure the CV1. I haven't tried wearing glasses with the CV1 yet, but it was a little pain with the DK2. I might try it soon if I feel like wearing my glasses instead of contacts. Of course, everyone knows he CV1 has double the resolution of the DK2. It really shows when you use it. Things are so much sharper with the CV1. That's the basics. I will post Gazelle related videos on the Polychop channel. But if you want normal DCS stuff with CV1 check out my channel at: https://www.youtube.com/user/TheOtherWhiteMeat22
  5. I kept my DK2 in the box after each use. So it's pretty well protected. Was thinking of selling it now that I have my CV1. The reason I'm thinking of keeping it is because it works on my laptops so I could show off the VR gear. Can't do that with a CV1. So we'll see.
  6. Here's a flight I did with the Gazelle: Also flew the Mirage as well: This weekend I"m planning on spending several hours testing around 15 different modules to see how they look. Hopefully I can get 2.0.2 to coperate nicely for it.
  7. Sadly that trackball isn't fixed to my leg...but since you mentioned it, I'm going to work on it. You know how many times that trackball has fallen and then the ball parts goes missing? More then I care to share....but it's a lot. So I'm thinking a little Velcro on the bottom and stitched to the flight suit should work. The CV1 blew me away yesterday. I saw the reviews but it's hard to imagine a 3D world in a 2D video. It blew my expectations out of the water. Flying with her is amazing. Not only that, but DCS 2.0 alpha has a great new interface for the rift that makes it easy to use. I'm going to see if I can do a big flight this weekend and test out all the modules with her. Besides DCS, it came with some free games that show off the technology. It's amazing in every sense. Even the kid games that I figured that I wouldn't be interested in were amazing.
  8. While still in the "light" category of helicopters, the SA-342M is loaded down with some weight. She's got the Vivian sighting system, HOT3 missiles, and other components that make her heavier. So there are operational speeds you shouldn't go past otherwise risk structural damage. But if you load up a Gazelle with half fuel, no HOT3 missiles, and a fun attitude - she'll do it. If I have time this weekend I'll make you a video. Speaking of videos:
  9. I found it annoying as well. I did a flight with the Mirage last night and there was this annoying dot or yellow/green box in front of me all the time. Hopefully they'll fix it in the future.
  10. The campaign that comes with the Gazelle is amazing and very well detailed. I actually voiced the audio for Hannibal that JTAC with a Drone that helps you find targets. But as stated in the documentation, the campaign is recommended only once your gotten used to the Gazelle's systems. Thankfully we have some great training missions to accompany the Gazelle that will teach you everything you need to know about starting her up, firings the weapons, and navigation. I myself have a couple training maps I' converted for testing purposes which I find useful. I"m sure the community will provide tons more great missions to fly.
  11. So I got my CV1 today and it looks amazing. Much nicer then the DK2 I was flying with before. So in 1.5.3 it still has the old VR interface and things work fine. But in 2.0 alpha there is an awesome new interface where you point your head to click. I was flying the Mirage for a test flight and notice that were I look, there is a yellow/green line there to indicate what I'm looking at. If I wanted to click something it's nice, but is it possible to turn it off until needed? Also, noticed that after one flight, the new interface gets locked in a forward view and can't do much else. But other than that....the CV1 is amazing.
  12. So having good to Space Camp in my youth I can tell you she has two very capable toilets that are a true marvel of engineering. Astronauts actually need hours of training on the ground before they can be used. For peeing it's a simple suction tube that does the work. For the "other" duty, you need to have very accurate seat placement to create a proper seal and a combination of vacuum and fan motors suck and chop the waste matter into small pieces. It then combines it with chemicals to neutralize the smell and moved to a waste storage area. In Space Camp we had a two hour lecture on the usage of the space toilet. I found it quite fascinating actually. Hope we model it well in our version.
  13. Court Jesters actual had a real world applications. Many nobility had such a great strain on their shoulders with keeping a country up, warring with neighboring countries, and keep your head intact. The court jesters role was to provide temporary relief from the stresses of daily life. But lets try to get back to topic......
  14. One does not simply become a Court Jester. It takes years of dedicated hard work and study.
  15. shh...don't tell them. It's a secret!
  16. Ok fine...you want to know when it'll be released....I'll tell you. 2016 Happy?
  17. Add some jato bottles to it, and she makes for a fun takeoff too. I'm also in favor of a C-130 as well. Guess only time will tell.
  18. He's actually doing pretty well for just learning the Gazelle. She's quite agile and I think it'll be fun to see videos from day 1 of people trying to fly her. Same thing happen when the Huey came out...lot of crash videos. While Wags landings are a bit rough...he lands in one piece.
  19. I noticed this too. I think it was a live stream issue. I find that sometimes live shows tend to shudder due to bandwidth issues. You can put the visor on him. Sometimes for fun I put the visor and the night vision goggles on him to see if he complains. He just sits there and takes it. :megalol:
  20. The wire is modeled. It is possible for it to get cut too. Easiest way to do this is to fire a HOT3, and the select another HOT3, this will cut the wire to the first one and guide the second HOT3 to the target. As far as shooting on the run, I"ll have to look into it. Most shooting methods requires hiding behind something, pooping up and shooting. But give that you meet the shoot requirements - it should be possible to shoot while moving forward.
  21. The Gazelle does have several autopilot methods. This includes speed, altitude, and an auto-hover mode. The auto-hover mode has some functions in it as well. When you activate the auto-hover it hovers and maintains the collective. You can actually turn off the collective part which I find fun sometimes because I can drop down to hide, then pop up to shoot. There is also a slave mode, which will aim the nose on the target. So yeah...You can activate the auto-hover, switch to commander, and have fun shooting.
  22. The winter one looks amazing. The fog effect is intense.
  23. Here's him flying in Spring: [ame] [/ame]
  24. Those textures looks amazing. I almost didn't recognize the map initially. The Gazelle is a perfect aircraft to showcase such an amazing landscape. The open cockpit full of huge windows gives you a great view out side and makes flying her breath-taking. In fact, flying her with the oculus rift, my sense of height and movement is triggered a lot more then in any other module (including the Huey) which makes flying the Gazelle much more realistic for me. I'm glad Matt had fun with our module and used it to showcase such a great landscape. I know I'll be getting it when it's released.
  25. Very cool story. Moral of the story is don't follow a Stuka into a dive.
