LN sent the Viggen to ED for QA testing a few weeks ago. When ED decides the module is ready, it will be released.

That's what I was thinking about. It doesn't ring as well as "HARM" or "Shrike" "Yeah, we encountered a field full of no less than 3 SA-8's! We sent a couple, uh, argummers their way and made short work of them!"

Depends on what stick you fly with, I have an X-55 which is more than precise enough to fly with zero curves all around. The fishbed damps your control inputs and limits elevator travel at high speed, so it's really quite smooth without curves regardless. Plus, curves will increase sensitivity when pulling hard, which is definitely NOT what you want when rotating or trying to hold her on the edge of a stall.

I think the Mi-8 doesn't get the attention it deserves because when you think "Digital Combat Simulator" you imagine dogfights and gun runs, not lugging crates between FARP's. When somebody gets the Mi-8 it's always the same story. They think about it long and hard and eventually say "Eh, why not." As soon as they start flying her they fall in love and never look back. It's definitely the best choice after learning the Huey. More engines, bigger, more complex, fully functional autopilot/stabilization system, and very, very Russian. She never lets you forget just how much mass you're throwing around with that stick of yours. Speaking of the autopilot, that's one of my favorite features. It is strong enough to hold you level for cruising or a rough hover, but it isn't at all intrusive like the Kamov's autopilot. You never have to disengage it because it makes the helicopter fly better, regardless of flight conditions! You also get to twiddle knobs with your tongue at just the right angle, which is always fun. The engines provide an interesting challenge. They have enough power to fling you around the Moon at the cost of degrading over time if you overload them. They also take no small amount of time to spool up, which can be deadly if you unexpectedly enter VRS! I've found you can give them a little wake up call by pulling a bit of collective a few seconds before coming out of translational lift. None of this is even touching the visual and audio quality of the module itself, which I could go on for hours about.

Possibility of getting a JA37 after AJS release!
Pocket Sized replied to Veritech's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
I've heard a few times that ED is no longer accepting anything less than fully clickable, AFM modules in the future. It makes sense, as it keeps developers from undertaking module development unless they're certain they can meet those standards. As much as I'd like to see a fighter Viggen, I think the dev time could better spent on other projects for the time being... -
The flanker in DCS has an aileron limiter that restricts lateral stick movement at high AoA. It's up to the pilot to make sure she stays coordinated though ;) Modern FBW aircraft have control laws that limit aileron movement and replace it with rudder as alpha increases, this can also be seen in the F-15 at high AoA: Even small stick inputs command full rudder and practically zero aileron (unless the gear is down)
-
I wonder if the wingtips visibly shake when the aircraft is buffeting in real life. I know the tails on the F-15/18 flap in the breeze during high G + high AoA maneuvers... so much so it's actually visible from the ground!
-
As far as I know that doesn't log online flights.
-
In real life the aileron limiter is a spring stop that closes in when the gear comes up. The flight manual says to override the limiter during spin recovery, to do so requires both hands and a lot of elbow grease apparently. The stop is there (I'm assuming) to prevent excessive roll rate during normal flight. When the gear is down the limiter is disabled to give more roll authority for crosswind landings, the F-15 does the same thing. I have the limiter override assigned to a button on my HOTAS, I only use it at very low speed or when recovering from a spin. (At high AoA large aileron movements cause the nose to swing AWAY from the roll, which is not fun!)

Depending on how hard the screen is being pushed in terms of brightness, burn in usually takes many many hours of displaying a static image. However I imagine the CRT in the radar is rather bright and burn in isn't really a concern because if the radar image isn't moving there is something deeply wrong :D

***DCS: AJS-37 Coming to DCS: World!***
Pocket Sized replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
No. The grudge match will be played with a special build of DCS that has the Viggen visual model, LN employees will be flying the Viggen from what I've heard. -
Shoot, I'd pay 60 bucks for something like that! :D

Su-33 lost to the sea during landing, again Kuznetsov
Pocket Sized replied to Worrazen's topic in Military and Aviation
It's extremely rare in real life from what I've heard. I'd be surprised if it's happened more than a dozen times, because it's devastating while being very easy to prevent. I assume those cables get inspected every chance they get. Not to mention how absurdly strong they are. -
Radar screen/auto aiming inaccurate?
Pocket Sized replied to Pocket Sized's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
But they aren't manually controlled as far as I'm aware, especially "modern" systems like the Tunguska or Tor. You have a fully fledged fire control radar + ballistic computer, so why spoil it by putting a human in the loop? They have manually controlled backup modes much like what we have now (crosshair + joystick) I know that the systems modelling and functionality of the radar are way outside the scope of CA. But the automatic tracking could be greatly improved by tightening gains used for following the lead calculation. -
Not to mention the swept wings... did somebody say coefficient of lift?
-
Am I the only one who is amazed by the resolution of the radar display? Those lines are SO SHARP! It seriously looks like a modern ink display IMO. Also the way it sweeps and clears/fills sections of the display is satisfying to watch. (Not criticizing LN's implementation, as I'm sure there's no noticeable difference between in game and real life... I'm genuinely impressed by how good such an old display looks) I know that there's a red transonic warning in the top right of the panel, but what about the much bigger red light near the radar? Also, the ominous beep we hear is GPWS right? Amazing video in all aspects!

Rb 04/RBS 15 can't target land objects. The radar is designed for working at sea, so it would likely get confused by numerous contacts (look at the Rb 04 thread to see what I mean) How this will be modeled I have no idea. My guess is the missile will either go for a random building or fly straight until it runs out of fuel/energy.
-
Also, WOW that acceleration is really something! From Mach .55 to 1.05 took very little time, and that was while maneuvering AND with full internal + some in the external fuel tank!
-
The lighting on the attitude indicator is orgasmic.
-
Using the right ctrl + F10 radar screen you can automatically track and (in theory) aim any ground vehicle that has a spinning search radar. I've found the Gepard and Tunguska try to follow the gun solution pipper but lag behind just enough to pretty much always miss. The Tunguska's beam riding missiles are slightly better but it's far from perfect. Was there a point in time where this feature could be used for aiming? It seems like the gains are set far too low (tracking is too mushy) or am I doing something wrong?

What do the lights on Il-78M refueling pods mean?
Pocket Sized replied to The Legman's topic in DCS 2.9
Left blinking means your're drifting forward. Right blinking means you're drifting back. If either side goes solid that means you're getting near the forward/aft limit and need to correct or risk disconnecting. -
Belsimtek Magnificent Mi-8 is true to it's name
Pocket Sized replied to Teapot's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Yes, it's an option in the mission editor. It was added a while ago. -
Reading again it might be referring to AI on AI refueling. Not sure though.
